Harriet doesn’t mind not coming to Hartfield. Though she doesn’t blame Emma in words, she sounds resentful. Isabella is pleased to have Harriet for a visit. Emma can feel less guilty and enjoy her own engagement.
 
Emma visits Jane, who is more animated.
 
Mr. Elton comes and is irritated. He went to see Mr. Knightley at Donwell, but he wasn’t there.
 
Jane apologizes to Emma for her prior coldness. Emma also apologizes for her own behavior.
