Summary Chapter 44
Emma vows to be kinder to Miss Bates. The next day she goes to call on her. Jane is ill. Miss Bates seems to avoid Emma at first, but eventually she comes out. She tells Emma that Jane decided to accept the position Mrs. Elton offered her. She will leave in a fortnight.
She also announces that Frank is returning to Richmond. His aunt is ill again.
