Which has been the best decision you ever made?

BienvenuJDC
11-10-2012, 01:09 AM
To move on with my life

What should I do next....tonight...(it's too late to find a stranger)

Delta40
11-10-2012, 01:24 AM
The job you've been avoiding most.

How interested should I act with my date tonight?

BienvenuJDC
11-10-2012, 01:27 AM
I don't know.
Who is your date?

Delta40
11-10-2012, 01:37 AM
A friend who needs a push

Should I wait till we're parked by a cliff?

lilimarlene
11-10-2012, 01:11 PM
Why not....
Now, how should I handle my date tonight ?

Sancho
11-15-2012, 10:19 PM
Always a good policy to leave him wanting more.

And, based on the tardiness of my answer, my question for you is: How did it go?

lilimarlene
11-16-2012, 12:26 AM
I agree, and that's what I did.It went very well and thank you for asking!

What have you done recently that you're proudest of.

tonywalt
11-16-2012, 12:30 AM
I just did 18 pull-ups.

What would you do that would make you proud?

lilimarlene
11-16-2012, 12:37 AM
Living my life with integrity.
What would you do that would make you feel less than proud?

tonywalt
11-16-2012, 10:34 AM
If I forgot to bring Sam the Corgi to play group (where he has met another Corgi named Tobi and they are great friends).

What do you want to do as a career?

lilimarlene
11-16-2012, 03:55 PM
some form of royalty or perhaps run my own country

If you had only 24 hours left to live, what would you do?

Buckthorn
11-16-2012, 04:14 PM
Eat whatever I wanted, drink whatever I wanted and kiss that person who doesn't know how I feel about them.

If you are going to die, would you rather know before or have it come as a surprise?

lilimarlene

[QUOTE=Buckthorn;1185507]Eat whatever I wanted, drink whatever I wanted and kiss that person who doesn't know how I feel about them.

(Please don't wait until your death bed to act. Go find that person you care about Buckthorn and kiss them and tell them how you feel. It might be the very best thing that can happen because they might feel the same way or they may see you in a completely different light. Think less, act more. What’s the worst thing that can happen? There can never be anything so sad than agonising about what could have been….)

I would rather not know.

Under what circumstances would you adopt a child?

Calidore
11-16-2012, 07:16 PM
If you are going to die, would you rather know before or have it come as a surprise?

Heh, that reminds me of a Steven Wright joke:

My girlfriend and I were lying in bed, and she said, "Let me ask you something."

I said, "Yeah?"

She said, "If you could know how and when you were going to die, would you want to know?"

I said, "No."

She said, "Forget it then."

lilimarlene
11-20-2012, 11:54 AM
ok then.....

Under what circumstances would you adopt a child?

tonywalt
11-20-2012, 12:10 PM
If this price was right, they were really cute, and also properly washed and scrubbed- then Yea definitely.

What charity would you put in your will?

lilimarlene
11-20-2012, 12:36 PM

lilimarlene

as much as I'd like to, it's very annoying, so no.

At what age did you start drinking?

tonywalt

Would you ever manage a restaurant?

lilimarlene
11-21-2012, 03:06 PM

Would you?

tonywalt
11-21-2012, 03:29 PM
No, the hours are crazy.

Would you be able to fool people if you had to?

lilimarlene
11-21-2012, 04:50 PM

If I have to do it I can.

Go to Church or never Church?- (glad you went, when you went? Was it comforting?)

lilimarlene
11-22-2012, 11:45 AM
I used to go to church when I was a child as we went as a family. I'm not religious, more on the spiritual side so I don't go to church anymore unless it’s to accompany someone or a special occasion. I'm sure it's a comfort to some, it really is a personal decision.

No matter how bad things get, are you aware that someone always has it worse than you do? and would that change how you feel about things?

tonywalt

Do you often change your hairstyle? - when last? (God!- That's got to be one the gayest questions I've asked in a while).

lilimarlene
11-22-2012, 03:36 PM
(Haha did my avatar give me away....gorilla! yeah that's about as honest an answer as mine!)

I change it sublety, I like it on the longish side but change the length or colour from time to time. My hairdresser cut about 3 inches a couple of months ago. I wasn't happy!

What's the first thing characteristic you want to know about a potential bf/gf?

lilimarlene
11-22-2012, 04:32 PM
it's a combination of things. Aside from the physical attraction, they must be sincere and kind/warmhearted, have intelligence, humour, integrity, good communication skills. I like a man that has a quiet confidence and a certain level of sophistication. Am I asking for too much?

What's not to like 'bout living on an island?

lilimarlene
11-29-2012, 02:08 PM
(re: woman asking a man out.I know that not all men feel the same way. I've had this discussion with some male family members, my brother being one, and some friends and it’s a mixed bag of responses. My brother likes to do the asking out at least at first, he does not like aggressive women. For me, unless I’m already dating someone I am not comfortable (maybe I’m not so modern, but I am definitely stylish) asking a man out because for me the quote ”The desire of the man is for the woman, but the desire of the woman is for the desire of the man.” Is very accurate. If I don’t feel desired and they don’t make an effort and do a little chasing, I’m not really that interested. I also hate man that play it too cool)

(awg Horse …you aren’t interrupting , this is a public forum after all)

Well I have lost a few, maybe you’re debating skills are lacking or you give up too easily.

What is the nicest thing someone has done to you /for you recently?

tonywalt
11-29-2012, 04:09 PM
You are right. I wasn't on the dating scene and was in a realationship for a long time. It's actually good to know - I do make an effort, but just like you, if i don't feel chemistry or she puts up too many hoops - well, i'm not a poodle. (then again, chasing to me means, calling and calling and she puts me off more than say.. Twice). But yea, i like women who ask guys out.

A friend gave me an old Vespa scooter for fun, he's leavin island, it's a good lil hop n' go

Can you find the oil dipstick in your car without looking around?

lilimarlene
11-29-2012, 04:18 PM
(chasing means that at the beginning he make the moves, not me, cause if he is not brave or interested enough to ask me on a date, he will not be the man for me. I don't require that a man jumps through hoops but I will test him a bit to see what he's made of)

I admit I would have to look around for a bit. I do have someone take care of that for me.

What's the best thing you can do to show someone you care for them?

Hawg Horse
11-29-2012, 06:54 PM
Real men can find the(ir) dipstick. Most cars have two. Jealous over the scooter. Sadly, you're right 'bout my social debating skills. It seems, to me, the skills improve with a stoggie and scotch, just sayin'. Like the insights you both gave on the (your) lustful mind. You must see the Toa of Steve (at least 10 years old, but available on DVD). All the true answers are there, for the taking. The quintessential "chase" is far more art, than science. Can sting some when you run, and "the" one does not give chase. I've heared it said, you've never loved; 'til you've been loved back. I was assaulted a few weeks ago now. Stabbed twenty times; three in the face. My office landlord still refuses to take my rent until I can get back to work. He's not a wealthy man. I won't soon forget his kindness.

Call me crazy (again), but I can tell by talking to a girl when someone likes me in a lustful way (or doesn't). Even before the fateful first kiss, it's an unmistakeable gaze in her eyes, her body language and her tone of voice. Like an invitation ... you can have whatever you want. Certainly not a surrender, but a submission to being caught. Chase over; at least temporarily.

Hawg Horse

uum, what's not too like. Well, this is a small island (55,000 population half of which are from another islands to the east{see map} so the small population a thing I don't like at times (other times I do like it) - community is important.

What do you like and what do you not like about where you live?

Hawg Horse
11-30-2012, 02:47 PM
The Economy has remained strong here through the recission, which is a big advantage for me being in business for myself. I like 3 of the 4 seasons, but December, January and February are too cold to enjoy normal activities. Then there's also the challenges of living around snow. When I owned my motorcycle, I would have to park it 4 or 5 months out of the year. There's skiiing, of course, which can be nice, but the slopes are crowded and it's quite expensive. The Rocky Mountains are our beach-front for beauty and outdoor activities. Where I live in downtown Salt Lake City, most residents are very liberal and progressive, but outside of that area most are conservative and members of the Mormon faith. More diversity would be welcomed. There are approximately two million people living in the state. I was on a work assignment last year in Western Samoa for 4 months and both my sisters live in Kauai so I've been charmed by my time visiting there. Many people living there want to live on the mainland, and those of us here ... long for the sea. Perhaps we're born by nature with wanderlust? The natives in Samoa were hospitable, but with some their kind gestures were tempered too obviously with a financial agenda.

Are there many native people who still live in the Caymans?

Cool Background!- thanks.

The islands are very British so we are the natives settled here circa 1700. I like the blend both European Culture and North American culture - plus it's safe. I suppose the only thing I do not like about it is we get alot of people here from the other Caribbean Islands and they bring some crime in, but we are tightening immigration thankfully.

[QUOTE=Hawg Horse;1188800]The best show of affection is that look :)

true that look is VERY important and powerful, it can literally make my heart skip a beat, but also touch and displays of affection are important, pay attention to what makes that person happy and surprise them with little treats to show them you were thinking of them, and let them know you feel, even if it's awkward for you the most important thing is to be sincere.

Like the spirit of Christmas, but I'm usually relieved by the time it's over. These last few years, I've thought of running away to a place in the sun for the holidays, but never quite get up the nerve. Family first ... usually carries the Big day. I live alone and my children are grown and live on their own, but reside in the general area. Their Mother passed on several years ago now, so ... I'll most likely be cookin' again this year and spreadin' a little peace ... and joy. Hope yours are Merry and Bright.

Post-modernism or Modernism? (in literature)

Hawg Horse
12-23-2012, 04:36 AM
Now that's a memory ... to long remember. Can't hardly wait for the book ... to follow :)

I'm not for sure ... maybe that means I think in the post-modern. In 1994, or so, How Late It Was, How Late won the Booker Prize, and it was hard for me to read, yet alone relate to its themes. Knowledge of Angels was shortlisted, and it remains my favorite novel. Truth is, I think I prefer moderism, but not sure I fully understand the difference.

How would you explain the difference between Modernism and P-M, and do you have a clear preference?

islandclimber
12-23-2012, 06:51 PM
Briefly, I would suggest Modernism as trending towards the rational, organized, hierarchical, determinate, objective. Whereas Post-modernism trends towards the irrational, chaotic, anarchical, indeterminate, subjective.

My clear preference would be Post-Modernism. Thomas Pynchon is my favourite writer.

Gravity's Rainbow is my favourite. It is wonderfully disturbing. I'd start with Against the Day though. There's just something about it that makes it a great spot to begin.

Bio-luminescent waves were surfed at Florencia Bay on Vancouver Island after midnight this past July. Surreal.

Buh4Bee

A "brilliant day" has me thinking. I guess that means you were brilliant in the day, or that the happenings of the day were enlightening, or perhaps the time within the day itself took on a human quality, with a mind of its own. I like the coupling.
Hope today is another.

Yes, but only twice that I remember. Both times were during periods of high stress. Once I awoke on the stairs, another time in the kitchen. On both occaisions I had no memory of how I got there, or what skulduggery may have happened enroute.

I put the question back to you (?).

PS: What's a dirigible?

If I got snowed in... I'd likely curl up in bed all day with a couple books, watch a film, drink copious amounts of various herbal teas.

Would you live on a sailboat. If yes, where? If no, why not?

(PS. Hawg Horse... A dirigible is a lighter than air, airship. Like a blimp, or a zeppelin.)

papayahed

I want to believe the percentage is very low because I have a great hope for humanity, 10%.

I would hope low as well, but I wouldn't call one out of ten people I know low haha. My blissful ignorance/optimism tells me I should say about 6%

Let's see there are quite a few to choose from ... must be a real Hippie, right, but, can't say Jesus, 'cause he already came back to life, so the next in my life line would be Bob Marley.
I also think that percentage point, at least in the U.S., is over 20% (near 100% if you include those who've cheated in their "hearts" aka day dreams).

Do you think there are clear advantages to being formally married over merely living in a committed relationship (aka living in "sin")?
