You're right, Robinhood. I saw the last question before mine, answered it, then asked the next in the manner of that I had answered. I hadn't noticed a switching of question modes.

What are the names of the seven main Catholic Rites (not Sacraments)?I didn't realize there was a list of rites. I'm going to answer, "I'm Catholic (was Catholic, am technically, in the eyes of the Catholic Church, still Catholic... anyway), and I have no idea." They made us learn the sacraments, but never any rites. Google turns up nothing related, either.
Uhh... so, yeah, new question. Do you travel on vacation/holiday every year? Where do you go? In the winter or the summer?

Once I've been inspired by a girl that I've been in love with. I think what inspires me is being in a mood -- sad or happy -- that makes me reflect; and most of the time, when I'm tired or sleepy. But I think, what inspires me is "the unknown".

what do you think of sommerest maugham's writings?
emily655321
03-25-2006, 08:17 PM
I've only read Of Human Bondage, and I hated it. I hated the beginning, I hated the middle, I hated it all the way through. Then, after sitting in reflection for ten minutes after finishing the last page, I realized that it was the best book I had ever read.
Have you ever felt that way about a book?
chmpman

03-25-2006, 08:51 PM
Not to the degree it seems you felt. Can you explain exactly what made you like it? I've never read anything by her.
"Him."
Well, I hated the characters, and all the decisions they made frustrated me. I came away completely exasperated and wanting to get away from these people, perhaps after having given them a good smack first. Then it occurred to me that had they behaved any differently, it wouldn't have been true to character. They had to do the things as they did, because that's just who they were. But "they" weren't really anybody; they came out of Maugham's head, and he could have made them behave differently, but he didn't. He wrote them as real people, and real people are damned frustrating. And, after all, that is the entire point of the book: freedom of choice is, in a way, Fate itself, because our personal temperaments will almost always lead us ultimately to make the same decisions. Given a thousand chances at the same choice, our decision—and, hence, destiny—will still ultimately be determined by the type of person we are and the experiences we've had. In the end, the book was almost like turning a video camera on at age 9 and turning it off again at age 30 (or whatever it was), and whatever is captured is what makes the story. I was struck by the thought that it takes immense skill to write so objectively on a subject that isn't even really there.
Anyway. Same Q.
Pendragon
03-25-2006, 10:43 PM
Hoo-boy! You should read some of my book reviews on amazon.com. I've never been one to hold back an opinion too much, and I told one writer he ought to write about fertilizer since he was so familiar with the main ingredients, bovine intestinal byproducts. Hee-hee!

The best thing in life is to enjoy the good time when they come, and treasure each moment spent with those you love. Memories have a way of lasting and warming the heart when the world turns ugly and things don't go the way one wishes they would. And I do not believe they ever really die...
What do you consider your greatest acheivement in life thus far?
mmm... my family relationship.... well my friendship with my brother, because i now my brother will always be there for me and i will always be there for him. i know that if i need a shoulder to cry on he is always going to be there, if i need to take my anger out i know i can go to him, he is always there for me. he is MY BEST BEST BEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!

My best friend, who I've known since we were children, is someone I have the utmost respect for. She's strong in her convictions, sticks up for herself and others, but is one of the most caring and compassionate people I've ever known. She has a strict moral code for herself, but holds no one else to it, and is able to respect others on their own terms. She's pretty amazing.

High school is the closest thing to hell I can imagine.
Same Q
emily655321
04-14-2006, 11:28 PM
I agree with you there, Ry. High school ruined a lot of things for me, not the least of which was my love of learning. I went through a lot of psychological troubles during those years, and the stresses of schoolwork and social atmosphere (I've always described it as "poisonous") only compounded those problems. I think it must be the same for lots of students. But even now, writing essays and even writing for my own pleasure drags up the old anxiety and sometimes plummets me into a depression. It's like Pavlovian conditioning; when I went through my old papers to find a sample essay for my college application, I started crying and I couldn't stop until I put them away again.
High school blows.

what is the best memory u can remember from ur young age?
RJbibliophil
04-16-2006, 08:04 PM
I have so many wonderful memories from my young years, which I pretty much consider up until age six, because early that fall is when I oficially moved to the states, (though I still belong in my land of the midnight sun). The reason my family moved when we did was because some laws got changed and my parents didn't want my to go to school at age six... I loved living next door to all my older cousins who were and still are wonderful. I loved visiting my grandma and grandpa who lived nearby. I loved playing with my sister and a neighbor girl. I loved my cabin in the mountains. I think just being young and able to play all day is wonderful...Really, I wonder what I did not love about those days...

When I was seven, we had a retired race horse named Avalanche that I used to ride down to the river, and she'd cross and have to swim half way to the other side, then we'd tie the horses up and jump off of rocks into the river, my brothers would climb up these cliffs that seemed huge, but were probably only 20 ft high or so, and jump off like madmen. On the way home we'd let the horses choose their pace and they would run so fast it was like flying.

Yes, not going to talk about it here, not that's anything too serious, I was only 7-10 at the time. :D

I too was somewhere around 7-10. I got in a lot of fist fights in my wild childhood. But that was a kid-ish thing to do .. and we were all afraid of hurting each other anyway.
Do you dance?

I love dancing, it feels like flying somehow... And I do most of the time. :)

Not sure if it is really correct to call what I do dancing (the term "leaping around like a maniac" is been one of the kinder descriptions I have heard), but I do it anyway.
Slightly altered, are you good at dancing?

Not quite sure, I do dancing classes though, but not the normal dancing. I do Modern, Tap (MY FAVOURITE) & hip-hop
