Kinda like a full English but with added unhealthiness! Potato scores, sliced sausage, black pudding, and all the other regular fry up suspects!

Today was great because.......

I reminded myself how Amazing my life is! (sorry, that's a bit self indulgent, but if you can't indulge yourself.....!)

I have no trouble with that today, but experienced the famous "when I say no I feel guilty" as a child. I suppose peer presure is as powerful as it is because of that. Children are always subject to it because of a combination of gregariousness and lack of information.

When doing a self evaluation for work/school do you answer truthfully or do you give yourself all high marks?

tonywalt
01-13-2012, 04:10 PM
Good question. We have a self-evaluation at the firm, which we fill out ourselves. Then the senior person (and competitor) evaluates "over" my evaluation.

I habitually write down any and all accomplishments throughout the year on a crafty word document called "Tony's Accomplishments". I then pump them up even more and bullet point them on my self evaluations.

I can honestly say my self evaluation would rival and exceed the propaganda that Kim Jong the former Glorious Leader of North Korea dished out to his faithful flock.

Buh4Bee
01-14-2012, 09:40 PM
If I had to go out with an author, it would probably be JD Salinger. Although I think it rather juvenile of me to say so. Maybe a second choice would be Hunter S. Thompson, which is probably just as juvenile.
Character most attracted to is Mellors from Lady Chatterly's Lover. He was such a beast! Although I loved the authoritative civility of Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre.

Self-evaluation, as long as I can back it up with evidence, it goes in th evaluation. I wrote my own evaluation for my principal. I was grand!

You go out for a special or even a semi-special occasion, when you get home does your bedroom look like a tornado hit it?

aliengirl
01-26-2012, 11:39 AM
Quite often. When we went for the wedding reception of my brother, the bed and the floor looked like a mind-boggling mess of clothes, shoes, cosmetics, combs, pins and jewellery. And someone always leaves their cellphone under a pile of clothes and it is retrieved after missed calls from another. I always ask everyone to put things back at their place but mostly it's me who has to clean up.

Do you ponder a lot while choosing what to wear on a special occasion?

No. Only because a friend just moved there for work and I wouldn't want him to think I was following him. But if he wasn't there I probably would. Although I'd have to take a hard look at what local laws applied to me (like the car driving thing in Saudi).

Would you go to a Jimmy buffett concert?

It depends on qhich websites you visit. If you spend your life staring at cats being dumped in bins on Youtube then your brain will atrophy and die a death. However, if you spend your time among like minded people on cerebral forums such as this then your level of general intellectual wellbeing cannot help but be increased.

Sancho Panza

What major invention other than nuclear would you like to be ''taken back''?

BookBeauty
02-28-2012, 05:37 PM
Well, I wouldn't want nuclear to be taken back, for one thing. I wouldn't want any scientific invention to be taken back. However, I would like to see the approach to scientific inventions changed. Less weapons, more sustainable energy, more medicine, etc. Splitting atoms is the beginning of finding sustainable energy, and therefore, nuclear energy is essential towards scientific progress. Unfortunately, there was a bomb.

Knowing that there is an ever-changing social environment that we're all adapting to, the lines between tradition and modern times become blurred. An increase in individualism, in people becoming more open about everything. So, do you think that this is a good direction for us?

I enjoyed 'Macroscope' by Piers Anthony.

Do you have a favourite fantasy fiction novel?

Wow, that takes me back. A lot of Piers Anthony's earlier stuff was pretty good; his problem was that he'd have a good idea, then decide to make it a trilogy or series without enough new good ideas to follow the first. The only series I think I liked all the way through were the Cluster quintet, the Bio of a Space Tyrant quintet, and the Omnivore/Orn/Ox trilogy, and maybe also the first Split Infinity trilogy. Rings of Ice and Triple Detente were also decent standalones. I haven't read anything of his since the mid-'80s (a.k.a my late teens), so take most of the above with a dash of salt for memory gap and another dash for my much younger tastes at the time.

Anyway, I don't think I can do a favorite fantasy. Too much apples and oranges, and even a list of possibilities would be too long.

Another genre that doesn't get enough respect: How about a favorite horror novel?

NikolaiI
03-03-2012, 01:12 AM
Um.. about the only horror fiction I can say I enjoy is Lovecraft, whom I love.. and I love Poe although neither of those authors wrote many novels.. unless I am sadly uninformed and in need of reading some novels. :] Other than that I can't stand horror really.. I think Stephen King is brilliant in some stories (Hearts in Atlantis, Wizard and Glass) but I only picked up The Shining once and literally only read a couple of sentences. I can't think of any other horror novels.. maybe I should give them a try because a zombie novel might be okay. Well, technically, "Legend" is about the only horror novel I've read, so I guess it's the best.
