What is your favourite childhood memory?

tonywalt
09-21-2012, 04:44 PM
Running down the stairs on Christmas morning and the sort of mad unwrapping of everything, the smell of new toys, the buzz of it all Christmas day.

Also, as little kids - swimming in the sea and the parents would throw mangoes into the water for us to dive up. The sweet taste contrasting to the salty water.

Idyllic views, Endless possibilties and the newness of it all.

(That's three:eek2:)

Same question?

lilimarlene
09-21-2012, 05:07 PM
(well you have lots of nice memories. I love the mango and the salt water one. I have also eaten mangoes in the sea...they are so juicy and sticky, it's the best place to eat them )

Christmas for sure..I didn't have stairs to climb down but there was nothing that got me so excited as Christmas. On Christmas Eve I could hear whispering and movement and I knew that involved presents, and I loved presents.I would jump out of my bed in the middle of the night and run in the living room and see all the presents under the tree. I would get so excited. My parents would manage to find me before I could rip open one and send me back to bed. But yeah, that was the best feeling..... aaah to be a kid again!

Both have their merit

Why do I waste my time with some people?

aliengirl
09-22-2012, 12:28 PM
You don't really have to if you've met them online. If they are there in your real life like your colleagues then...you can't help it. Just block them in your mind when you're at home.

Why do some people change their behavior after a very long time, when you've built a certain image of them in your mind?

lilimarlene
09-22-2012, 12:45 PM

lilimarlene

What brings me joy is being in love, having fun with good friends, being surrounded by beauty (nature, art, scenery) dancing, music.

Volya
09-22-2012, 04:53 PM
Fear of not being accepted.

Why do some people prefer a lonely life?

Shevek
09-22-2012, 04:58 PM
It leaves more time to read.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?

lilimarlene
09-22-2012, 05:02 PM
I don't know if anyone would prefer a lonely life, just by that definition alone that would imply they are not happy in their choice. So I would guess if someone is living a lonely life it might be because they have poor social skills and would have a hard time connecting with others or perhaps they have feelings of unworthiness or might live in a rural area.

What was the first thing you learned to cook?

Volya
09-22-2012, 05:06 PM

Would you become a hobo if the one you loved did?

lilimarlene
09-22-2012, 05:20 PM
( shevek: mostly extrovert something like 60/ 40)

there is no way I would become a hobo, this girl like her comfort way too much and there is no way that anyone I would fall in love would become one unless they had a mental breakdown and in that case I would take care of them.

When the last time you had a meaningful conversation with someone?

Volya
09-22-2012, 05:25 PM
Too long ago to remember clearly.

Same Q

Buckthorn
09-23-2012, 03:31 AM
Again sleeping (its 8.27am in the UK -usually I am an early riser 5:30 in the week 7,8 or sometimes 9 at weekends but I adopted a new cat yesterday and got a 3am wakeup call. Then another at 5. UH, OH! Someone is going to come and spy on us, Bien!

BienvenuJDC
09-24-2012, 08:34 PM
If you were invisible...and could spy on anyone at LitNet (decently that is), who would you spy on?

lilimarlene
09-24-2012, 09:04 PM

Sydneysider

Do you consciously or without thinking of it look for characteristics, personality traits or familarities of past long term relationships in potential new relationships?

lilimarlene
09-25-2012, 01:12 AM
No not really. Do you mean try to recapture something that was lost?

tonywalt
09-25-2012, 01:32 AM
It could mean that. Or there may just be good qualities that you liked or admired. It's (hypothetically of course) meant to be positive - after all one wouldnt have been with someone for such a long time without some outstanding qualities.

Can you seen how that is reasonable-within good sense of course?

Sydneysider
09-25-2012, 01:47 AM
No. Or rather I prefer not to. Eyes toward the future while understanding the past.

Do you ride public transport?

tonywalt
09-25-2012, 01:59 AM
(If you found no redeeming qualities in a past long term relationship 7plus years- then that would have been terrible {and I'm not speaking of the current "sin" of nostalgia}- just clarifying.

Not here, but I do in UK.

Have you ever been in fear of being arrested?

Sydneysider
09-25-2012, 02:10 AM
(the relationships died because I was on the road for months at a time. All ended with a mutual understanding that it wouldn't work. Like Duke Ellington, music is my mistress and has always come first.)

Yes, a pub raided for drugs while I was on stage.

Are you married?

lilimarlene
09-25-2012, 02:22 AM
( I don't think it makes sense to try to duplicate(I'm reading between the lines here) what you might have lost, basically chasing a ghost of a past love. Of course there are always going to be qualities that I find attractive in people but not because it reminds me of my ex.We can never recreate a better version of what we once had.Best we can do is create something new with someone different. )

I would not try to duplicate the past and didnt mean to imply that - I meant that i admire certain qualities-simply that. Nothing to read into.

I'm off to Bed:seeya:

tonywalt
09-26-2012, 03:43 PM

Do you know why seeing or smelling something revolting can make one want to vomit? I just can't think of a logical reason myself.

this might shed some light on it for you....http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/mind/articles/emotions/disgust.shtml

BienvenuJDC
09-27-2012, 06:29 PM
Lili...did you have a question?

Hawkman
09-27-2012, 09:52 PM
I've heard or read that explanation before, but it doesn't actually quite ring true. The reason being that the stomach turning reaction doesn't seem to be consistent. I don't get it when confronted with maggoty corpses, or even when normally encountering dog mess on the pavement. I last experienced it when emptying a chemical toilet, something I've done loads of times, before and since, without any reaction whatsoever. I've skinned and gutted game, and although it isn't pleasant, it doesn't make my gorge rise. It's just weird and apparently random. Thanks for trying to find out though :D

Question: what's it all about, when you get right down to it, you know, life and all that...?

BienvenuJDC
09-27-2012, 09:55 PM
It's about helping each other out...

What inspires you?

Hawkman
09-27-2012, 10:02 PM
What a nice idea :D

Good art is inspiring, as is nature, courage, and strangely, utter stupidity. The last of these inspires me to satirise it!

BienvenuJDC

Would you tell a vogon his poetry was good, even if you weren't in danger of being ejected into space?

tonywalt
09-28-2012, 10:38 AM
Tricky. Depends on the poem.

Would you play in a Duran Duran cover band (200 shows a year) if the pay was high? - same songs, and of course same dance routines each nite.

Hawkman
09-28-2012, 03:30 PM
No I don't think so. Can't stand repetitive jobs and I don't dance, only tinker a bit on bass and my voice has gone.

Would you join a living history group and re enact ancient battles, even if you knew your side lost?

RicMisc
09-28-2012, 04:06 PM
No, I don't think I would.. I've never quite understood why people would do such a thing (even if your side wins)..

Would you like to win 100 million dollars/euros/whatever? Might seem like an easy question but think about the consequences..

Hawkman
09-28-2012, 04:59 PM
Oh, I am, I am - so the answer is yes, provided I can win without shelling out for a ticket :D

If you won all that money, would you give it all to charity?

What is the most exciting thing you've ever done?

aliengirl
10-01-2012, 11:16 AM
It's too difficult to select just one exciting thing. But in the near past I translated and directed a play by Shakespeare. My sister and I designed costumes also. It was fun and very exciting.

What is the most exciting thing you've ever done?

Hawkman
10-01-2012, 11:22 AM
Hmmm. Tricky. Do I chose flying an aeroplane, or driving a steam train. I wouldn't say making a film was exciting, just hard work. It depends on how one defines exciting I suppose. There are things that are exciting in a good way, and things that scare you to death. Sailing about in a force 12 definitely comes into the latter catagory, but it was certainly exciting. I just didn't enjoy it much. I'll go for flying an aeroplane.

What is your favourite piece of sculpture?

Buckthorn

The other day I was standing in the 10-items-or-fewer line at the grocery store with a box of donuts and a jar of pickles when I noticed that the lady in line in front of me had 11 items in her basket. I pointed out her mistake to her and and I was very nice about it. I'm certain she was grateful and probably humbled by my selfless act, but you'd never know it by the way she stomped over to the regular line. Anyway it just felt good to do something nice for a total stranger. In fact, I'm starting to feel good about myself all over again just thinking about it.
