Not if I can help it. I meant my same question as before. But I'll ask another then...

(Ooh! I just noticed my post was the 1000th on this thread.)

...What singer/band did you used to listen to that you are most embarrassed about now?

amuse
06-05-2004, 04:04 AM
michael jackson  yes i was very young, and he was not yet female.

hadn't realized these posts are numbered - thanks for pointing that out, em!

what celebrity did you dream of marrying in your youth? :p

emily655321
06-05-2004, 04:13 AM
Oh no! Oh geez...when I was 13 it was Steve Burns, the guy on the Blue's Clues children's TV show. I always painted the nail of my ring finger with green and white stripes (his trademark shirt). And then, the same year, we watched "Glory" in History class and it was Matthew Broderick for a while after that. (For some reason I have a thing for the Civil War Union uniform.)

Is it true that people usually end up marrying someone similar to their dad?

homiezindahouse
06-06-2004, 01:39 PM
I don't like garlic, too stinky.

What grade are you in?

I don't like garlic; too stinky.

What grade are you in?

emily655321
06-06-2004, 02:20 PM
Who are you responding to? Garlic?

I graduated high school one year ago plus one week. Took a year off, going to start college this fall.

Same question: Do women tend to marry guys like their dad?

simon
06-06-2004, 03:24 PM
I hope not, but it doesn't matter since I shall never get married.

What is your favorite dessert food?

emily655321
06-06-2004, 03:28 PM
Mint chocolate chip frozen yoghurt. Ice cream is too...creamy.

What's your favorite breakfast food?

simon
06-06-2004, 03:38 PM
Waffles with strawberries and whip cream.

Have you ever had trouble with the police?

ajoe
06-06-2004, 07:27 PM
Nope.

When your cellphone rings when you're in the bathroom doing stuff, do you pick it up and respond like normal?

emily655321
06-06-2004, 10:32 PM
Don't have a cell phone. I just let the answering machine get it no matter what, anyway, even if I'm sitting right next to the phone. :p If it's important, I'll pick it up.

Do you care whether the sheets on your bed match?

amuse
06-07-2004, 01:11 AM
oh yes. i'm ridiculous in the house. everything must be just so.

do you enjoy thrift store shopping?

verybaddmom
06-07-2004, 01:17 AM
yes i love it, i can spend hours just browsing looking for that treasure that no one else recognized. however, it is my sister that really has the gift for finding stuff that rocks. i sometimes follow her around when we shop and then if she picks something up and puts it down, i grab it and its almost always amazingly cool.

do you care about labels when you are shopping, or do you just grab whatever is cheapest? are there any items that the brand really matters to you?

amuse
06-07-2004, 01:22 AM
jones new york stuff makes me weak at the knees, makes me look like a million dollars. and gap jeans are the only ones that fit me, so they're high on the list too.
otherwise i could care less about labels.

do you do holidays with family or no?

verybaddmom
06-07-2004, 01:25 AM
not so much. i have my son with me wherever i am so i dont cry too hard if we are away from family on the holidays. the thing is, i have NOTHING to do with my dad's family and my mom's only marginally, so its just us anyway as a rule.

do you have many family members that you wish you could trade in for something better, like carboard cutouts of rock stars?

emily655321
06-07-2004, 11:40 AM
My brother. And an uncle-by-marriage who is as interesting and appealing as a rotting gypsy moth's nest. I also don't visit my grandmother's siblings-and-descendants-thereof, because they scare me. Quite boistrous. But most of my relatives are pretty intelligent, engaging people. Not that I visit them.

What's the most uncomfortable situation you've ever been in at a family gathering?

emily655321

Right now...Maryland. I have my own reasons. :p

What's the most expensive souvenir you've bought on a trip?

papayahed
06-07-2004, 12:54 PM
It's a toss up between 5 bottles of Kahlua from Mexico or a small vase from albuquerque.

Whjere is the worst place you've ever visited?

emily655321
06-08-2004, 07:57 AM
I don't consider any place I've visited to have been all bad. Even if the visit itself is unpleasant, the experiences and memories and knowledge gained are invaluable, and always fun to look back on. I think the place I disliked the most was Naples, Italy -- it was loud and dirty and sun-baked and I really didn't like the food. But I'm thrilled to have gone and to have the memories that I do. And I also got to visit Pompeii, which was just heavenly.

What's your favorite place that you've visited?

Jay

Do you already have plans for summer?

emily655321
06-08-2004, 08:19 AM
My existence for the past year-and-one-week has been a perpetual summer vacation. I'm soo ready to do something other than zap my brain cells against the comp monitor. But with two months left and counting, employment is not looking hopeful, despite my continued efforts. :( What the heck makes me so undesirable?

Did you see Venus move across the sun this morning? (The trees blocked the sun here until it was too bright to see anything -- I think it was over by then anyway.)

rocksea
06-08-2004, 09:41 AM
nope, i cudnt, it was a cloudy day today. goddess of love must have gathered the clouds so that she doesnt reveal much of herself before the sun's brightness..

today, june 8 was oceans day as well. though oceans cover around 73% of the earth, does it affect 'your' life in any ways, especially directly?

Jay
06-08-2004, 11:27 AM
If I don't take weather and all that into consideration, oceans don't affect my life at all. But I like the theme of ocean in art, pictures, sounds... that kinda affecting.

Is it hot everywhere today? (wonder where to go to cool down a little :p)

emily655321
06-08-2004, 10:52 PM
OH MY GOD it was so hot. :flare:   Misery of misery. It's a bit better now that the sun has set, though.

Do you usually pick "truth" or "dare" when you play?

Dare. Always dare. It's generally less damaging than the truth and often quite a bit more fun.

Best dare you were ever forced to carry through?

papayahed
06-09-2004, 05:12 PM
Depends who I'm playing with, some dares can be awfully embarrassing.

When is the last time you played truth or dare?

emily655321
06-09-2004, 05:23 PM
I don't think I've played since I was 12. The favorite around here in high school was "I Never." It's a drinking game, but the times I played no one drank; we usually had soda just to keep with tradition, though. -- You go around the room and take turns saying something you've never done (gotten a speeding ticket/taken ecstasy/sex; etc.) and anyone who HAS done it takes a drink. It's pretty dumb.

Have you ever played a drinking game?

amuse
06-09-2004, 06:17 PM
no; even at chico state, strangely enough. i'm a very bad drunk, and it's why i don't drink, would probably end up spinning myself rather than the bottle.

what was your most far-out expectation/wish that came true?

ajoe
06-10-2004, 03:51 PM
Well, I don't know if it was too far-fetched or even a wish, but one time I was in the car and for whatever reason was thinking of the song "This Love" by Maroon5 (yea, someone shoot me please for admitting these things) and then the radio played it! Actually that happened several times with different songs and after awhile it stopped being creepy. =)

but
but long back i had my girlfriend who was then in czek [she was my junior at school before but then we didnt know much of each other] and our only way for contact was the net. one year later she came back to india for holidays and she told me i was entirely different from what she thought. and it did hurt me so much :( she sounded like i was entirely different from what she wanted,,

rocksea
06-14-2004, 10:57 PM
my own shadow or just a shadow? shadows make me feel good. i like the shadows of trees. sometimes i try to hide my shadow inside the tree's shadow.. once i took a foto like that.. here the tree's shadow was reaching the roots of another tree. i felt like this is how they communicate, how they embrace each other, grow into each other. Subject: FIFA News report.

It's just been reported that one of the French football players has failed a

drugs and alcohol test on Monday after the match. If this is

confirmed as positive, under World Football Federation rules, paragraph 6

sub section 2e, France will forfeit their 3 points and they'll be appointed

to their opponents, England. Scroll down for the full transcript of this

report.

Who's gonna win Euro2004?

Isagel
06-16-2004, 11:21 AM
Sweden! I followed the last game and am suddenly overcome with a patriotic feeling.
The next game for us is on friday, against Italy. A friend sent me a picture of an italian newspaper saying that "The swedes scare us!" Sweet words!

So, who do you think will come second?

Possibly actually having some time to get stuff done, but since university got out in April and I am still exhausted all the time, I doubt that will work.... So, I will say: My week vacation! Haven't had one of those in 3 years.

What was your favourite gig?

Isagel

I was at a concert with a gospel singer called Cyndee Peters. Although that is not really my kind of music it was amazing. It was in a little church, and she got evryone to stand up, clap hands and sing along. Including me, much to my surprise.

Is it true that in US you only get a cuople of weeks paid vacation? ( In Sweden we have a minimum of five weeks vacation/per year if we work full time. I think it is something similar in Germany as well. )

'New' or 'Old' Star Wars?

Sancho
06-19-2004, 04:58 PM
I like the old Star Wars. It has a special nostalgic feeling to it. I still get chills when I hear John William’s first few trumpet notes in fanfare song. I saw the original Star Wars as a first run movie in a Greensboro, North Carolina movie theater with a girl that I was head over heals in love with. At the time I was a gangly pimply teenager and shortly after the movie, someone better came along for her and she shed me faster than she could scrape a dog turd off of her shoe. I haven’t seen her since.

You know what? on second thought, I think I like the new Star Wars better.

Who do you wish you were more like?

Isagel
06-23-2004, 11:52 AM
My cat Lenore. She can fall down from a chair and still keep her dignity, even if she lands on her back, obviously not very comfortably over a stack of books. She is clumsy with style and grace.

I wish I was. I always manage to hurt myself in the strangest ways. Yesterday I laughed so hard I fell when walking down the citystreet, badly hurting my foot. Two young men thought I was drunk and offered to take me home. My friend, who made me laugh and of course is entirely to blame, thought that was a lot of fun. It´s strange - the more you try to explain that you´re not drunk, the worse it sounds.

Me- "No, no, I feel fine, I´m really not drunk, I only had coffee, I was just laughing"
My friend- " I only had a glass of wine"
Young men looking at each other thinking- yeah right, pathetic old people.
Darn.

Oh- sorry about all that. So the answer is- I would like to be more like my cat.

Is it better to give money to a registered charity, or to a beggar on the street, or not to give at all?

emily655321
06-23-2004, 01:57 PM
Oh, great, I get the toughy. :p Depends on what charity, and whether the beggar is standing outside a liquor store. I think it's best to give blankets or food -- something real. But if it has to be money, I'd afford any charity some heavy research. My grandma has a big book that gives letter grades to all the different charities, based on how much of the money actually gets to the poor people. But in both cases, there's this: a lot of people benefitted by charities aren't in the position to go out and beg for themselves, while a lot of homeless people are too suspicious of organizations, or feel too embarrassed, to seek help from charities. *shrug* In the best case scenario I'd say give to both, but then again, in the best case scenario they wouldn't need it.

How much time on average do you spend outside? (enjoying the outdoors, not walking down the street to somewhere)

Kiwi Shelf
06-23-2004, 05:46 PM
Well, there are lots of variables to consider for that answer... It depends on the weather or if I have to work, stuff like that... Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon lying on my patio swing reading "Mercy Among the Children" by David Adams Richards. (Great book, btw) So, if I get the chance, several hours, but today it was rainy so I only went outside to go to work. And, boy, am I ever rambling... lol

I would settle for just getting out of my province, I haven't got the chance to do that in a while!

What other forums do you post on?

Libra Swords

I post in the Personal Poetry and just made up some new
poems off the top of my head.

Where do you post?

emily655321

I used to have lovely deep conversations as one of the only posting members of a Clockwork Orange board, but by all appearances the group-creator/admin-guy got banned from Yahoo. Or he decided to leave his poor Em out in the cold and delete his account and the group along with it. :( So now, I just post here.

Do you follow along with threads that you never post on?

They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa
from: Dr. Demento's Delights
Warner Bros. 1975

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming
to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
To the happy home, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haa!!!
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time... (fade out)

Hey, buddy!
Yes officer..
You a head?
No, but I'm catching up, ha ha ha....

original recording by Napoleon XIV

Have you heard this song?

emily655321
06-24-2004, 05:16 AM
Yes, yes, a thousand times gloriously yes! :D :D :D I had a tape with that one, and a bunch of other Demento stuff, when I was little. Actually, that song was running through my head when I wrote my last post. :D (As it does periodically, for some strange reason. ;))

[edit]: oh, question... Have you heard the one that goes "beep beep, beep beep, the car went beep beep beep" and it ends "hey buddy how do I get this car out of second gear?"?

um....have you ever had to tranquilize your pet?

emily655321
06-24-2004, 02:03 PM
tranquilize or euthanize?
We had to have one of our guinea pigs euthanized, because he had a huge tumor in his throat that they couldn't remove. The cats, on the other hand, always have to go under general anesthesia when they get their teeth cleaned. And when my old white kitty got hit by a car, he had to have jaw surgery.

What's the longest one of your pets has lived?

If you have a pet, do you spoil your pet and what have you done to spoil your pet?

emily655321
06-24-2004, 04:12 PM
Oh, everything under the sun. Not with food, because I've seen so many overweight cats at the shelter and they're just so sad and sick. But our cats are our familial gods. :D They get more love and attention than anyone else. Arlo walks on a little leash outside, till he's older and less mischievous, but it's more like he walks us around the yard -- through bushes and mosquito-filled hemlocks and leaves -- and we just endure it, cause he's soo cute. My old cat, Niles, used to whine until you petted him while he ate, and if you stopped before he was done he'd come get you again.

Do you adopt or go to a breeder or (god forbid) petshop?

Kiwi Shelf
06-24-2004, 04:57 PM
My cats are all adopted, but my dogs came from breeders... I have 4 cats, three from the SPCA and one from a friend who had kittens. Then, I have had two golden retrivers, and believe me they are pure.... Recently me and my friend saved two kittens from off the street and one ended up in boyfriends house and the other in a friends. So, yeah...

Suppose there was a fortune teller in your neighborhood that was always right. This person tells you one day that she can predict the day on which you will die. Would you want to know?

Newman
06-25-2004, 03:05 AM
Nope. First of all, I would be anticipating the day and that's not something I want to wait for. If I die early, I don't want to know about it. Second of all (and most importantly), I won't die (seriously ( ;) )).

Nope. Used to be, until I started rcok climbing and cliff jumping. That got rid of that in a hurry.

What do you think of the state of the world?

"The world is not growing worse and it is not growing better -- it is just turning around as usual."
--Finley Peter Dunne

That said, "as usual" still means we're ****ed.

After humans become extinct, and providing nature is able to reclaim the planet, what do you think will be the next type of species to take over? (i.e. single-celled organisms--> dinosaurs--> great mammels--> humans--> ???)

Have you heard about the Monty Python Musical version of Holy Grail, and do you plan on finding a way to get to Broadway to see it?

Kiwi Shelf
07-08-2004, 10:22 PM
haha, I wish I could go to broadway, but I will have to graduate and get a profession before I can splurge like that. I mean, just taking a week off next week is hurting my conscience.

Do you think university is way overpriced? (I do)

Horrifically, criminally so.

If money was not a problem, how many years would you like to go to college?

verybaddmom
07-09-2004, 01:24 AM
forever..career student
i could learn in a structured environment every day for the rest of my life (minus, of course, holidays) and still not know about everything i find curious.

what course(s), totally unrelated to your program, would you love to take, just to take it?
(for me it would be classical mythology and latin, to start)

emily655321
07-09-2004, 04:19 AM
Well, I don't know specifically what my program is yet, because I get to build my own. I'm fairly certain I won't be pursuing a career in performing arts, though, like drama and music, and I wish I could study them more than I'll get to. Luckily for me, studying abroad is important for an art student, so I have a ready-made excuse for studying any language I want to. :D

What subject do you have no talent for, but wish you did so you could study it? (For me, it's theoretical physics. I find it fascinating, but *sigh* I'm impossible at facts-and-figures stuff.)

If you could have either a pet monkey, or a pet penguin, which would you choose?

verybaddmom
07-09-2004, 12:01 PM
well it definitely would NOT be the monkey, as i have this irrational and deep seated fear of the little buggers. but then i dont think a penguin would be a good pet, as i think there is the whole habitat thing to think about. i dont think it would do well in the environment i do well in. so....i would take the penguin and then send it off to a place better suited.

what is your biggest pet peeve that gets tripped the most often?

EDIT: i have had to resort to snitching questions from another board, as i seem to have...um... run out of my own. just in case anyone else recognizes them...em

In answer to the question: probably grammatical and spelling errors. And my mother dumping bags of litter-box-refuse in the kitchen trash instead of taking 50 more seconds to go into the basement, the minor inconvenience of which is vastly eclipsed by the more preferable lack-of-stench in the upstairs living area. :rage:

do you infer what strange words mean as you read, or do you keep a dictionary handy?

Sancho
07-12-2004, 12:52 PM
Heh heh, I usually infer, and wrongly much of the time I might add. That would be an interesting conversational word.

Ha, I missed a bunch of good questions, so I’m going to answer them anyway. Here goes.

Papaya’s crush question:
Always had a thing for my high school English teacher. You know, of course, what a raging hormone a high school kid is. Absolutely no control. Anyhow, I’d sit there in her class most of the time unable to stand up without embarrassment.

But here’s the kicker: last year I met a guy who’d just graduated from my high school. So we’re standing around comparing notes and I ask him if Miss Anna Standish was still teaching English there. He says, “Oh my god, Old lady Standish! She’s the Principal now; we hated her.”

VB’s gas question.
Just the other day I’m in an elevator thinking I’m going to ride it all the way to the top alone. So I float this air biscuit. ‘bout that time the doors open and about five people climb on board. The doors close preventing their escape before they realize what they’ve gotten themselves into. Needless to say, I was not the most popular vertical traveler that day.

Em’s human extinction question:
I’m not sure who said it, but it was an argument against the survival of the fittest theory of evolution: “The end state of life on the planet earth will probably be the ****roach and the syphilis bacillus battling it out with each other for world domination.”

VB’s pet peeve question:
It really ticks me off when some people ignore the rules of the thread and just do what ever the heck they want to.

OK, I’m done.

do you think that we should be allowed to talk about politics on here?

No. If you want to know why, go read the Current Events/Politics section on the WOXY.com forum. It can get pretty hostile, and don't think it doesn't carry over into other threads. Coming back here I always breathe a sigh of relief.

BTW, WOXY (a.k.a. 97X) is back on the air...uh...net...whatever. Everybody go listen! :D

where would you go for your summer vacation?

verybaddmom
07-15-2004, 04:39 PM
well, i am sort of on summer vacation right now, because i just moved to a new province and city. so, even though im doing some distance ed classes, i have had lots of time to explore the city and begin discovering all it has to offer. however, for holidays we are planning a trip to venice for sometime in May. as my boyfriend will be deployed to Afghanistan in Feb and during his two week leave in may, the canadian gov't will either fly him home, or fly me out. i think we have decided that im going there, and that we'll do a bit of travelling, mostly france and italy is what we are aiming for. although its all up in the air right now, that's the tentative plan.

i guess it would have to be (*makes shamed face*) dropping this kid (of teen years) at the stampede concert on Sunday. he was intolerably rude and had the foulest mouth on him i had ever heard. well, he and some buddies were trying to get body surfing in the crowd and when it came my turn to prop him up, i was um...distracted enough to neglect my duty. he sort of fell to the ground (feet first) and was pissy that he wasnt still airborne, but knew not who to blame.

no i dont think so, there is that whole claustrophobia thing to deal with. i dont actually have a real problem with it on a daily basis, but the idea of being in a mine shaft or something like that makes me nervous; i think it would be the same thing under miles of water too.

Yeah, I think the odds are for it. But I think any intelligent life is very far away and will never come in contact with Earth, or vice versa.

Depends on what the food is
I generally like it both ways, but if it is leftover pizza I leave it cold.
