when you were very young, did you ever ask someone what gender you were?

ajoe

http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/diverse/624.gif Yeah!

Are you the only fool on the hill?

emily655321
05-02-2004, 06:58 PM
Yes. The only one. ;)

:D What do you want to do when you grow up? (and don't say, "I am grown up." I'll hit you.)

imthefoolonthehill
05-03-2004, 02:00 AM
I want to be ambitious. I look at all the adults around me and I see that none of them are ambitious anymore... one guy's ambition is to build a shop, another is to own a sporting goods store... psh... they call it ambition.

what is your ambition?

emily655321
05-03-2004, 03:45 AM
To never put bread and butter above doing what I'm passionate about. My father and mother were both wonderful artists, but got office jobs so their children could have financial stability. And guess what? They're still in the office, and their eyes are too weak and their hands are too stiff to make art anymore, or so they say. I'm determined to make a life around my artistic endeavors, not try to make room for art in my life.

Will the ice caps melt and drown all coastal cities within your lifetime?

I don't think so...I (hope) might die already before that happened..

u ever have hallucination?

emily655321
05-03-2004, 09:09 AM
Nope, can't say that I have. Although.... everyone say it together now.......

"There's a time and place for everything. And it's called, college."

:D :D :D

Ever hear of the band OutPut? Go here: <http://www.outputband.com/> I love them, and I'm trying to recruit fans! They have some tracks you can listen to there.

So, do you like OutPut? :p (Do you hate OutPut? Will you tell your friends about OutPut? :D :D)

tell me one dream you have seen,,
that u didnt want to wakeup from sleep..

emily655321
05-03-2004, 09:36 AM
Hmm... good one. I've had dreams that I *couldn't* wake up from...
I guess dreams of my cats. I know, I'm obsessed with cats. But every once in a blue moon I'll just have a dream of one of my cats playing with one of my old cats who's died, or cats I love at the animal shelter that they've never met. I've been told several times that I was laughing in my sleep when I had those dreams. :D

Do you cook just for yourself, or for other people too, or does someone else cook your meals?

Sancho
05-03-2004, 11:46 AM
Yes, Yes (Although I won't guarantee they'll eat it) and Yes, mostly the Senoiras down at the burrito stand who can cook a burrito as big as your head.

Do you have any frequently recurring dreams?

verybaddmom
05-04-2004, 02:28 AM
no, in fact i rarely remember my dreams.

what is your favorite meal?

random_hero
05-04-2004, 02:40 AM
Lasagna or Super Taqueria. The taqueria place makes burritos as big as your head.

Have you ever sold eggs/sperm?

verybaddmom
05-04-2004, 02:42 AM

05-04-2004, 07:09 AM

would you give your life to some one else ? (whatever be the reason)

rocksea
05-04-2004, 07:22 AM
if giving to someone or some cause is worth than keeping it, maybe i'll give a try. but mostly depends on the situation and the stage am in,,

do you talk to your dog (or cat, for emily ;) )
what do you talk, if.

ajoe
05-04-2004, 07:57 AM
I have 4 cats, but not really. If they were dogs, though, probably. (For some reason I think cats are dumber than dogs. Yea, cat-lovers are going to kill me for saying this.)

What's your favorite costume?

emily655321
05-04-2004, 10:43 AM
Haha what a question for me to answer. People will groan. :D Currently I'm scouting the thrift/vintage shops in an effort to assemble the perfect Alex De Large costume (A Clockwork Orange) for this Halloween. (But if I can find a catsuit and a gentleman accomplice to wear the Alex platties, I'd go for Mrs. Alexander. Not so sure I'm daring enough to wear a codpiece. )

Do you watch TV?

rocksea
05-04-2004, 12:34 PM

Love to swim. Ocean, lake, river, pool it's all good.

Did you ever pee in the pool?

emily655321
05-04-2004, 03:36 PM
Oh heavens, I hope not. :D Have to consult my inner child for that one.
Funny, I just realized I haven't been in a pool since 7th grade. Maybe I should start going for a record. :D

If there is a public pool near you, do they charge admission?

verybaddmom
05-04-2004, 04:05 PM

How do you get a broken lightbulb out of the socket?

verybaddmom

how do you break the lightbulb in the first place??

emily655321
05-04-2004, 04:49 PM
LOL when you have a kitten who likes going where he shouldn't be.
Thanks, by the way. :D

Have the leaves on the trees come out yet where you are? How long ago? (Ours just popped this morning after a night of rain -- oh gorgeous gorgeosity.)

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:01 AM
No, I live in California and currently it's so DAMN HOT no trees would shed their leaves anytime soon.

How many times do you visit this forum a day?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 12:03 AM
ummm....i refuse to answer that on the grounds that i cant count that high..at least ten times today, although i was off work and just puttering around the house. on work days, maybe only three or four.

what is the average length of time that you spend on here in a visit?

random_hero
05-05-2004, 12:11 AM
Well, the first night/morning it was over three hours. Now it is thirty minutes.

Do you ever wear your shoes in the house because it feels more comfortable o you?

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:14 AM
No. I'm from Southeast Asia; I take off my shoes at the front door.

If you accidentally step on a dog poo, would you still wear your shoes inside?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 12:22 AM
Icky. No. I mean, I wouldn't throw them out, but I'd leave them on the porch till I felt like dealing with said problem. :D

Do you wear socks to bed?
(I can't, even if my feet turn to icicles and fall off. I just can't do it.)

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 12:24 AM
no never, icky....

do you use incredimail for email management?

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:29 AM
^ It's really uncanny the way the two of you used the same word (icky).

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:30 AM
I'll answer both question:

Yes, I wear socks to bed; I never take them off, in fact.
I don't really know what incredimail is, so can't answer that.

Next question: Do you like using semi-colon?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 12:31 AM
oooh...yes i love the semi colon; there are times when it is the only way to go (also the elipses, but i have totally destroyed all meaning it may have ever had)

do you follow politics at all?

EDIT: incredimail is this really cool email management program that you can use instead of outlook or whatever..i love it. it automatically checks my email accounts (college, shaw and hotmail) every 60 seconds and a little butler walks out on my screen and says "you have mail madame" and holds little silver tray of mail in his hand. also there are lots of cool animations and letter styles and stuff. like when i send a new email, the text that i have written folds itself into a paper airplane and flies away...i have used it for about three years and i have never had any problems with it....very fun little program. something user friendly and new to play with. amusement for small minds i guess!

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:33 AM
Well, I found out just two days ago the other candidate for president is Kerry.

Am I allowed to wonder here whether Bush would win the election or not?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 12:37 AM
i dont think so. but i can make faces like this:  right?

that was my question and answer!

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:38 AM
Uh...

What does that angry face really mean? *oblivious*

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 12:41 AM
hmmm....i am trying to not get banned for political discussion. so i will pose a new question.
um....did you watch the news today?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 12:44 AM
Ajoe -- It means War Pigs by Dylan should be the new national Anthem. :D
*cringes and waits for the iron fist of Admin to descend and make Em go squish*

Actually, for a very bizarre change, I did not. I was on this forum for about 6 hours straight. LMAO

emily655321
05-05-2004, 12:44 AM

You get to.... go to http://www.outputband.com/ !!!
Go! Listen! Enjoy! :D
(Not anyone I know, but they did tour Canada last year. They're still sorta just getting off the ground. And I likes 'em. :D)

Should I be punished for plugging this site here for the second time?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:04 AM
okay. i am listening to them as i type...happy now? and i think that the third time is the charm....once more and punishments will track you....hehe

have you ever heard the philosopher kings?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:05 AM
No, but the name sounds soooo familiar.

Who do they kind of sound like?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:07 AM
like the philosopher kings....and no one else. very cool. very original. very talented.

do you download from kazaa or any other p2p sharing device?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:10 AM
No. :( I'm a law abiding citizen without a credit card. LOL But I'll look for a sample somewhere.

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:11 AM
D'oh. Question...

How many CD's do you own?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:13 AM
um...three i think, unless you mean homemade ones.
(my last move {did i mention that my move coming up in July is move #50} i was forced to choose, CD's or books. i got $500 for my CD collection and lugged my books across the province...again)

did you ever own 8-track tapes?

Sancho
05-05-2004, 01:17 AM
Still do. They're bound to come back sooner or later.

Do you think you loose fidelity with CDs?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:21 AM
Um... I don't think CD's care who you sleep with. :D :D

What time do you get up in the morning?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:26 AM
LOL (for one so tired, your sense of humor is in top form dear)

i get up as late as humanly possible, so somewhere between seven and eleven am...depending on the day's responsibilities and demands.

are you a morning person or a night person?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:32 AM
Ooh I'm a night one. I like going to bed when the sun rises, but last night I napped too long and woke up at 3am, so I've kinda gone full circle now. (1:00am here)
Tired is when my sillies come out. :D It's also the only time I can write poetry.

Why do people call red "the color of attraction?" (Personally, I think of it as "aggression.")

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:34 AM
i really dont know. i assume it has something to the neural response that one has, biologically, when exposed to it, but really? i have no clue..

what is your favorite color then?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:39 AM
Deep deep blue. Although I'm becoming partial to green lately as well.

What color walls does your computer room have?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:42 AM
white...all the walls are white. i hate it. i used to have this house, where i painted the living room walls a deep brick red and the kitchen bright yellow (my bedroom was eggplant purple with a black ceiling and black lights everywhere). but this is just a temporary rental, no point in investing too much time in it.

what type of home do you dream of living in?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 01:46 AM
Delapidated farm house in a field in Vermont, on top of a mountain, far far away from people.

If you could pick the color of the sky, what would you choose?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 02:11 AM
i think light purple or perhaps pink...i love the sunsets that have those colors in them.

do you follow the standard guide for color (in clothes i mean) and refuse to wear orange with red or do you ignore all the rules?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 02:21 AM
I just kind of judge by how they look next to each other. I didn't know there was a rule. :p I get really annoyed if two things of the same color don't match, though -- like if one black is bluer than another. Or if a red shirt is more of a rose shade than my tights or shoes.

Do you lay out an outfit before you put it on, or go "hey, pants," put them on, then look for a shirt?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 02:25 AM
definitely hey! pants (usually inserting a wondrous "they are clean????!!!!) and then searching for a shirt that goes even slightly....all the while running around the house in a bra, brushing my teeth and yelling at my son to hurry up and get dressed...cant he dress himself yet!

are you any more organized (time-wise) than i am?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 02:35 AM
LOL I take an hour to get ready, and I begin reliably 10 minutes before I have to be somewhere. The "snooze" is long long since worn away on the snooze button. :D

Speaking of snoozing, I'm dropping as I type. Can you hear the enthusiasm in my voice? :D Nighty night, VB. Have a good one.

Are there lots of other houses near yours, or do you live in relatively secluded surroundings?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 02:39 AM
goodnight Em....sleep well and dream of all the posts you will be missing while you rest! *laughs evilly and rubs hands together*

i live in a suburbanish neighborhood, people on either side and across the back alley. right on a cross road too between two elem schools and a high school, so tons of traffic.

would you walk up a dark alley alone at night?

papayahed
05-05-2004, 09:28 AM
Probably, I'm of the mindset that if something is going to happen to me it's gonna happen if i'm in a dark alley or in on a brightly lit street.

Do you think we will ever have the technology to "beam paople up" like in Star Trek? (or does the government already have this technology and are keeping it under wraps to keep the car companies in business, thereby keeping the US economy afloat.)

random_hero
05-05-2004, 12:40 PM
No. Physically and Physcologically impossible. But the gov is hiding stuff from us. Its their job.

Have you ever tried to lick your elbow?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 12:59 PM
um...not till you mentioned it.

why is your town boring?

papayahed
05-05-2004, 01:15 PM
Nope, my town is pretty hoppin'

Are small towns always boring?

verybaddmom
05-05-2004, 01:28 PM
i think that totally depends on perspective....small towns generally have many nature related activities (hiking, fishing etc), but not much culture (concerts, theatre, museums etc.)
i think the town is only as interesting as the person who is attempting to enjoy it.

do you think that big cities offer more to it's residents? iow..do the positives of living in the big city surpass the negatives?

amuse
05-05-2004, 04:59 PM
no, i don't think convenience, public transportation, culture, etc. can ever surpass space and clean air. i wish there were a way to merge the two...

given the opportunity, would you have a home in both the city and the country/burbs?

imthefoolonthehill

Is there other life on other planets?

rocksea
05-06-2004, 04:24 AM
it depends upon how you define time
it can cease to exist
it can be infinite

life in other planets?
what about parallel universes
what abt life co-existing in this planet and we both dot know?
what abt simulation..
what they show in matrix is not a silly idea..
maybe we r living in some simulated world?
or someday we simulate some world??

do you talk to yourself? when and what,, what do you feel then?
have you watched people smiling on their own, dreaming something?

papayahed
05-06-2004, 09:04 AM
Yes I talk to myself, in the grocery store, clothes shopping, at work....I could go on. I find that when I talk to myself I'm thouroughly involved at the task in hand, I'm either trying to figure something out or I'm trying to convince myself of something.

I have seen other people smiling on their own I don't necessarily stop and watch though.

Did you have imaginary friends as a child?

emily655321
05-07-2004, 06:50 PM
No. I've always been very imaginative, but never fantasizing. Very clear line between reality and fantasy for me, even as a kid.

Do you freak out when a stranger bumps into you or spills their drink on you, or are you really polite and just think nasty thoughts?

ajoe
05-07-2004, 07:26 PM
LOL, yeah, I, for one, would wear a smile and say, "That's all right," while inside I'm thinking, "**** you *****."

Don't you hate the way American grammar rules are inconsistent? (For example, you put period before the quotation mark but you put a question mark after the quotation mark.)

imthefoolonthehill
05-07-2004, 08:02 PM
its confusing sometimes, but I love my language.

have you ever gotten fewer than two questions right on a test? (me today :-( )

emily655321
05-08-2004, 08:26 AM
Aww :( I've gotten some pretty low test scores, but most of them were just because I didn't take them. I don't think I've gotten that few on one I actually did take, but I could have just blocked out the memory. :D

Do you buy old pictures just for the frames?

Can you manage to keep clean a book while you're reading it?

verybaddmom
05-08-2004, 11:16 AM
i can but it requires a lot of effort, so it has to be a terribly special book (or a brand new one...which is quite rare for me). mostly i feel that a book is supposed to be used and well worn and even slightly dirty; it makes it looked loved.

what is the best way to start a saturday morning?

ravana

verybaddmom
05-08-2004, 11:51 AM

imthefoolonthehill
05-08-2004, 05:30 PM
Dictator...

how do you want to die?

emily655321
05-08-2004, 10:36 PM
Not at the hands of Dictator Fool. :D Living to 100 wouldn't bother me, but it would suck if I was a vegetable. I'd like it to be a wham--bang--gone sort of thing. I'd rather die quick and young than old and incapacitated.

How many spider monkeys do you think would fit in your car without impairing your ability to drive?

Spider monkeys? How big are they? I know I can only fit one camel spider in my car and even that needs to stay in the trunk.

What's the most desperate thing you've done for money?

Shea

For nine months I was a door-to-door saleswoman. The lowest, but most learned from point in my life.

What the most amount of money you've ever won?

emily655321
05-10-2004, 04:19 PM
I seem to think I may have won some, but if I did it wasn't more than $20.

Have you ever lost a relatively large sum of money by accident? (Like, dropping it on the sidewalk?)

Shea
05-10-2004, 04:21 PM
No, but I did find $20 once. I love when that happens! But I sort of feel sorry for the guy that lost it.

Ever find money in the pockets of you coat when you pull it out for the first time in Fall?

emily655321

No, I'm way too cheap to forget about money. Plenty of tissues and candy wrappers though.

How many library cards do you think you have, lost and stuck in half-read books and stuff?

Shea
05-10-2004, 04:31 PM
Believe it or not I'm not much into the library except for research and computer use. I'm too attached to the books I read to give them back. So, none.

What's the oldest article of clothing you have that you still wear regularly? (I've got a skirt going on 10 years)

Is bottled water better than plain old tap water?

Shea
05-10-2004, 04:40 PM
That depends on where you live. My parents are in NC and their water is delicious, but ours here even smells bad. We use a filter.

Ever drink mountain water straight from the stream?

imthefoolonthehill
05-10-2004, 10:46 PM
no. this is very dangerous. especially when one will be in the woods for a long period of time. I don't know how to spell it, but Jee-ar-dee-ah Geradia? is very dangerous to the lost camper. It gives you the runs like no other. To get rid of it, you gotta take this aweful metalic-tasting medicine for a long time. Do not drink from mountain spring waters unless you use a filtering system. ESPECIALLY WHEN LOST.

Anyways... I've drank water I just filtered from streams alover the northewestern wilderness.

ever accidentally killed a pet?

verybaddmom
05-11-2004, 02:33 AM
oh, this is painful....i once got this little kitten with the biggest blue eyes all lined with black...fluffy grey and white. oh so adorable. i named him Stevie (after Stevie Ray Vaughn) anyhow, i took him to bed with me, and when i woke up in the morning, i couldnt find the kitty.....
kitty turned up when i shook the blankets out to make the bed. he was not in good shape. in fact he was so dead that he was already stiff. i was heartbroken, and all my bf (of that time) kept saying was "i cant believe you killed the @#$%* cat!?". *sniff sniff* what did i learn from this? i learned not to name kitties after dead musicians, no matter how talented, not to take kitties to bed with me and that the bf i had was not worth keeping. i got a different kitty.

what is the longest time you ever had a pet?

ravana
05-11-2004, 05:36 AM
since 1995.

Oh, I'm sorry V.B.mom. I know what it means. My little kittens was killed by their own dad. It was terrible. When their mom found them dead, she was crying as human one.

Don't you think that it's another pain to keep pets because their life is too short and you would have to see their death?

Shea
05-11-2004, 09:20 AM
No, they are definately worth the pain. "Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

What's the best/your favorite name ever given to a pet?

Shea

We had a kitten named Rum Tum Tugger because that was his personality. Sadly my husband discovered he was allergic and we had to give him away.:(

Do you think we play with cats or do cats play with us?

ravana
05-11-2004, 10:08 AM
I think we play each others.

I had two friends: Aygun and Aida, I called both them in short way Ayka. So named my favorit kitten as Ayka doing the honour to them. Though they were ready to kill me because of it. Besides, then I found out that Ayka was not female.

What d'you like most cat or dog?

What's the best meal you've ever had?

verybaddmom
05-11-2004, 02:57 PM
i wonder if the best meal would have been the one that tasted best or the one i enjoyed most. i would have to say Valentines supper was the one i enjoyed most. but while it took us four hours to eat it, i dont remember what we had! however, the most tasty meal ever was a perfectly done steak neptune (asparagus not overcooked) with fresh crab and homemade hollandaise. this entree was followed by strawberries romanoff and other goodies i cant remember. Yum...lunchtime.

When did you first learn to swim?

rocksea
05-12-2004, 11:20 AM
well it was really fun. i learned to swim late, when i was 13 or so, just into high school. my cousin used to take me to a river and he wud take me into the water and put me somewhere i wud have a stand but deep water surrounding. i had no option but to swim across to land. sometimes i stay there but i get bored and then i'll plunge into the water. after some thrashing on the water n bubbling up water, cousin swim near and hold me.. thatz how i learnt swimming,,

do you cry? how often? when, why..
have you laughed when you r crying,,

Shea
05-12-2004, 11:34 AM
I cry when I'm stressed, so I usually don't laugh. I hardly ever cry when I'm happy, but sometimes I feel like I should. I didn't cry at my wedding because I was so happy, but I'd always seen brides cry, and felt like I should too. I'm sure I felt the same strong emotions, I just didn't need to cry about them.

Hell, no. :D The only no-posting time I have coming up is a family reunion in Virginia the weekend of June 19. Not looking forward to that one. :(

Have fun packing, VB. ;) hmm...

When you pack for a trip, do you put all the shirts together, socks together, etc. in the suitcase, or just stuff them all in where they'll fit?

verybaddmom
05-12-2004, 02:43 PM
i pack stuff into outfits...these pants with this blouse with these socks and those shoes etc. i even will take the jewelry for a specific outfit and put it into a baggie and twist tie it onto the hangers....
i know pathetic, but then i know that i wont end up where im going and say "oh...i have these jeans and nothing to wear with them...."

how much do you pack for one weekend?

emily655321
05-12-2004, 02:49 PM
Depends where I'm going and if I have to go to church or out to dinner while I'm there. Or if I don't know how hot it'll be, I pack extra weather-alternative clothing. But usually an outfit for each day, an outfit for the trip back, one thing of pj's, and extra socks and underwear. And a book. And any miscelaneous bottles of chemical stuff I need (i.e. soapy-type things).

When you take a vacation, how long do you usually spend there?

verybaddmom
05-12-2004, 02:54 PM
my last dozen or so vacations have been just weekend trips, so three days (the long distance relationship thing.) but we are planning a week in cuba for next winter (have to get security clearance first) and then two weeks in France next year.....

what is your favorite kind of vacation? (beach mountains etc?)

emily655321

Any foreign country, but preferably colder. (If it's summer here, much much colder.) Usually our only trips are a week in VA at the grandparents' though. Blah.

Do you go with a list of touristy things you want to see, or prefer to wander around discovering the everyday places in the area, or just relax inside, or what?

verybaddmom
05-12-2004, 03:04 PM
oh i'd much prefer to wander around seeing things the way they really are. however, when we go to Italy, i know that there are places i WANT to go: Bridge of Sighs and Juliet's Balcony for sure.

trains planes or automobiles? (in foreign countries)

emily655321
05-12-2004, 03:10 PM
Trains. Planes you don't see anything, cars you cause a ten-car pile-up trying to learn all the local traffic laws and customs. On trains people try to steal your seats and money and you get in arguments in languages you don't understand, and all sorts of interesting things like that. :D

Are you comfortable ordering food if you don't understand what the menu says?

verybaddmom
05-12-2004, 03:12 PM
oooh, i dont know. i guess that i would carry a translation dictionary and i have more than enough french to get me by (provided the menu is in french!), but i think i would order something, and then sort of deal with the result. if i couldnt recognize it, then maybe i would try it anyway. nothing ventured and all....

would you eat something if you didnt know what it was?

emily655321

Probably not. I don't even like eating most things I'm familiar with. :D I'm pickier than a toddler.

Do you routinely IM with people you've only met online? (not forum PM's)

verybaddmom
05-12-2004, 03:25 PM
yes...all the time. there are a number of members from this forum that i message outside of the forum. and also, my bf and i met online, so i think there is alot to be said for relationships and friendships that start only using your mind and typing ability and faith in that persons habit of using truth.

do you ever wonder what your pet would say if he/she all of suddden developed the abilty to talk?

emily655321
05-12-2004, 03:39 PM
How apt. Yesterday afternoon Stuffy came in with a nose filled with dry blood and a puncture wound in his shoulder. The vet gave us clavimox and medicine for his shoulder, but he kept saying, "I wish he could tell us what happened." Right now he's lying on a pile of my clothes in my room, but he won't eat or drink and he can't walk very well. :( :( :(

So, yes, I wonder what he would say. :)

emily655321
05-13-2004, 12:06 PM
Depends what you mean by "good art." I've seen a looooot of crappy "tortured soul" art. But I still tend to find it more appealing than happy flowers. Maybe the tortured just have more images in their head to art about, or a greater need to express their deeper feelings.

Have you ever laughed so much your jaw hurt? and when?

emily655321
05-20-2004, 05:34 PM
The time I laughed the hardest in my life, until I cried and it actually hurt, was when I was 11 and my closest friend at the time was over. We watched Mr. Bean on PBS and it was where he stayed in a hotel, but didn't realize that the room didn't have its own bathroom. He put out his clothes to be laundered, didn't have any others to wear, and for some reason had to make his way downstairs. So he was sneaking through the halls trying to *ahem* preserve his dignity, with signs he found on the walls. He kept having to get new signs, I don't remember why, but they were all very appropriately worded (one of them was "do not enter" :p). Anyway, we were trying to stop laughing so hard because my mom was on the phone shushing us, but that only made us laugh harder. I'm embarrassed because it was so crude, but that memory sticks out clearly. I guess it was just the right mood, the right person to be with, the right humor for the moment.

What type of humor makes you laugh the most?

Then she sent me an email under a false name about something I had been sharing with friends in a chatroom, but not her. I guess she felt betrayed herself? Anyway, I responded at length to this fake person. A couple days later my friend handed me a note after lunch, I went to class, sat down, opened it...and it was a printout of my reply email. Time stood still. Absolutely stood still, and it was like my insides caved in. I never spoke to her again, and she moved away a month later.

Butterfly Effect: Does the Flap of a Butterfly’s Wings in Brazil set off a Tornado in Texas?

So the question is do you think a small change in your life, a smile or anything like that can change ur life forever?

emily655321
05-21-2004, 12:11 AM
Definitely. Everything you do or neglect to do will result in a different chain of events. But even more mind-boggling, millions of other people may be doing something right now whose cumulitive effect will result in a big change in your future. Don't you love thinking about things like that? :D Twists your brain up more than drugs or politics...well, maybe not more than politics. :p

A very Maugham-ish question: can Existentialism and Destiny both be true? (In other words, can your fate be predetermined, but your actions dictate your fate, both at the same time?

rocksea
05-21-2004, 03:57 AM
if fate determines 'an action which determines fate', then it is fate.
you cant even say ur action determined the fate cuz it was fate which brought the action.

if itz 'action' determines the fate. therz nothin as fate determining anything as well?

but in some cases u can say like in a chemical reaction, if u do it in one particular way, the results will be such n such. here the fate is known but cud u say it is predetermined? as if u bring any changes while the reaction is going on, the fate changes. ohhh i donno what am talking, you make me nuts..

how about commitment and freedom co-existing? especially in a relationship?

emily655321
05-21-2004, 02:03 PM
LMAO :D

Hmm that is a toughy. I think so, yes. Because it's your decision to make a commitment. There are many things people feel bind them to a situation, such as financial or emotional investment, but really the choice is always there for them to leave. It's only by weighing the consequences of such an action that they choose to stay. I think many people, including myself, often mistake the potentially unpleasant result of a choice as a physical limitation on our actions themselves. But really, the freedom of choice still exists once you've decided to make your commitment. (I'm just throwing pronouns all over the place today, huh? :p)

On the other hand, the *feeling* of freedom can sometimes be stifled simply by the consciousness of having committed. I think a lot of people leave relationships, for example, to prove to themselves that they are still free, because they've ceased to feel in control. But if you're at peace with your commitment and feel that it was the right decision to make, you will always feel liberated.

However...

...assuming "free will" is a universal truth: if a person manages to control another's mind through fear or influence, can the other still be said to have free will? Is it possible to lose free will and gain it back again, purely as a state of mind? or is it a constant, simply being unused?

amuse
05-21-2004, 02:41 PM
firstly, if a person "manages to control another's mind" yes, the other can have free will. they can choose to not be controlled, and take care of whatever brought on their controlability (new word, y'all) in the first place.
secondly, the person who controlled in the first place is setting him/herself up for a lot of damage down the road when that crap that s-he did comes back to him/her.
i think it is always possible to retain/regain free will, and yes to your last question.
:)

what kind of thoughts do you wake up with in the morning? expectant, downcast, happy, angry?
do you mull over stuff from the previous day/tomorrow, or get going on today?

yes i can ask two too! :p

emily655321
05-21-2004, 03:51 PM
I usually think, "No, it is not time to get up. Please don't let it be time to get up. I have to make myself get up. Come on, Emily, get up." Then I think, "my neck/back/shoulder muscle hurts." Then I think, "Is anyone else home? How many hours do I have to myself today before people come home?"

In other words, thinking is for nighttime. :p Morning is for, "Oh crap. It's morning."

emily655321
05-24-2004, 05:52 AM
I can remember pretty much all the way back. I have images in my head from when I was in a crib in my parents' room. I know I had to be less than about 1 and 1/2 years old, because my memories are all of not being able to make myself understood. The funny thing is, the me inside my head in the memories is the same me I am now, if that makes sense. Just with a feeling of, "*sigh* These parents are so oblivious! They can't understand what I'm trying to tell them. This is so exasperating." .... Come to think of it, not very different from the way it is now. :p

unfortunately (fortunately?) i didnt see that occurence so i am unable to answer that question, but i am also tired of waiting for someone else to get around to it. on a side note, i found out last night that Annie Lennox and Sting are playing in my 'soon to be' home city, the night before my birthday. i made large hints to honey, looks like i know what im getting for the next b-day!!

so...a question? can it be two parts? was that my question? am i in the wrong thread? hehehe

how many concerts have you been to? and who was it that you saw?

emily655321
05-31-2004, 04:59 PM
Unfortunately, I've only seen four (not counting local garage-band shows, since they obviously don't count). Even more unfortunately, three of them were with my mother, since she was the one driving. :( But luckily, she ain't a bad mom, even though she denied me the June2000 NIN/A Perfect Circle show for which I will never forgive her and have told her repeatedly. Again, I digress... I saw Deftones/Incubus in fall 2000, APC (finally)/Snake River Conspiracy/Cave-In spring 2001 (on the floor, 3 or 4 bodies back, very cool, best... show... ever.), Ozzy/Rob Zombie/Soil winter 2001, and Lollapalooza with Jane's/Audioslave/Incubus/Queens of the Stoneage in July2003. But The Cure and Muse are coming around on Aug.7! -- GOD, I must go to that. Probably be sold out by the time I have any money.

If you could only see one more concert in your life, who would it be?

Could Woodstock have been any better?

emily655321
06-01-2004, 04:38 PM
I wasn't at Woodstock, dude, but the only way it could have been better is if Iron Butterfly hadn't got stuck at the airport.

My only connection to Woodstock is that I have a necklace that was made there. Maybe I've said that already. Oh well, I'll say it again: the tear-drop peace sign pendant I'm wearing in my pic (it's somewhere on here. go digging.)...well, it was stamped at Woodstock with a bunch of others. Then somehow it wound up at the Kriskringelmart in Nuremburg a couple years later and my dad bought it. Then he gave it to my mom when he met her a couple years after that, then it hung on our kitchen wall for years and years, then the day we invaded Iraq I asked if I could have it to wear, and now I wears it all the time. :)

Why on Earth did anyone think a Woodstock '94, much less '99, would work??

i love spiders (or most of them anyway, but sort of like people, there are just some you need to avoid for your own health!) but i can seriously watch one for quite some time, and i encourage them to spin webs in my house near windows to catch bugs and keep them off of my plants.

have you every caught a frog and tried to keep it?

do you think people are largely pretentious? how natural are you, in daily life..?

emily655321
06-02-2004, 11:45 AM
I think most people try to project the image they want others to see. The difference is that some people want people to think they're someone they really aren't. I'm very self-conscious around other people, but I have a pretty strong personality and I act very impulsively. I can't help being just me.

Do you think people would like you as much if they saw what you are like when no one is around? Or are you just the same?

BTW, Ravana -- I googled Tarkan and listened to a couple of his songs. It's not the kind of music I like, but boy oh boy is he ever CUTE! :D  You should add him to the Drooling thread.

ravana
06-03-2004, 11:01 AM
certainly, em. He's very cute, his eyes are incredible. I can't say I'm his fan. But like his some songs: "kish guneshi" ( the winter sun), "bu gece" (tonight), "kuzu-kuzu" (like lamb), "gulumse kaderine" (try smiling to your fortune).
His dancing is most incredible. And he's very genuine. That was most what I liked in him during the concert.

I'll try to add him to that thread just for you, if I won't have any problem with attachment again. By the way if you liked him, then you will certainly like other turkish ones who are as cute as he's.

in response Em's question, i certainly hope so, although of course, it depends on the person. we all have certain hats that we wear and our behaviours change depending on the situations, but there are people who i feel free enough to be me around all the time. mostly i think i try and tone down my exuberant personality when i am in public (why? last week i answered the phone at work and the person on the other end asked me to grab Amanda for them {she's my boss}, and i replied the first thing that came into my head: "sure, where would you like me to grab her?" and it was her dad )

how many "hats" do you wear on a regular basis and what are they?

Isagel
06-03-2004, 11:34 AM
2 on a regular basis - one knitted green beret, and one hat in dark red corduroy.
I also have hat iblack velvet saved from my goth period, but I do not use it any more.

How much coffee do you use per cup when you make coffee?
(An american friend claims swedes are crazy because we use at least one huge tablespoon of coffee per cup. So now I thought I should ask here . )

verybaddmom
06-03-2004, 11:47 AM
i have no idea really how to measure, i have this miniature 'flour' scoop and i use three of those per pot, but i like my coffee really strong too. i also buy my coffee fromTim Hortons or else we grind the beans ourselves at home, so the measurements vary depending on the type of coffee used.

do you have a preference for one brand, or do you just buy whatever is on sale?

Isagel
06-03-2004, 12:11 PM
I always buy coffee from a fairtrade brand - for more info try this site.
http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/

In short the fairtrade program is about decent pay to the farmers for their products, democratic structure and no child labour.
Coffee without the sour aftertaste of slave labour. It´s good for you. And that was my a slightly political statement for the day.

I think I´ll just ask my old question again - how many tablespoons of coffee per cup do you use?

when you hook up with old friends after a long separation, do you find it awkward, or do you just slip back into old routines?

emily655321
06-04-2004, 11:54 AM
My best friend and I see each other about once every three months, but when we do it's like we just saw each other the day before. It's wonderful. My other friends are the same to a certain extent, but I think that's just because the only ones I keep, and contact again after a long separation, are those with whom I have that type of familial relationship. But generally all our family friends are like that, too; no matter how long it's been, we're very casual and close.

How long does it take of being out of touch with someone before you assume it would be inappropriate to contact them again? Do you assume people have forgotten about you?
