Most are based on logic. But unlike Vulcan's I have emotions!

You are in a McDonalds. A customer comes in and orders special numer 5 which with taxes comes to $7.35. They hand you a $50 dollar bill. By logic alone, how much change do you owe them?

RobinHood3000
01-20-2008, 03:37 PM
$42.65 - i.e., too much.

Why is YouTube so addicting anyhow?

ajsa
01-22-2008, 01:27 AM
because we think that, whatever we wonder and wanna see we can easily
reach them there,in youtube:)

by the way kiz paws,i watched "hallelujah" in youtube and i like it,also i found it very impressive and emotional..

"should i say him my feelings one week before i leave the country or these days yet i have 2,5 years to go or never?"(take my question seriously coz i will do wahetever you say,i cannot think logically right now, damn!!)

RoCKiTcZa

Yes

(same question, I am simply passing my time here, but I did take it seriously)

NikolaiI
01-22-2008, 02:54 AM
Yes, but you are in a terrible position. Love is great and you should cultivate it if he loves you too! But long distance relationships are SO difficult. It must be a really true love to work, and takes a LOT of devotion of both parties...it is so sad that it is so difficult. I would advise...avoid long-distance as much as possible. But if you can make it work then try it, just be prepared for it to be very difficult. But always be positive and enjoy whatever love you can find!

Same question, let's get as much varied advise as possible!! eek!

Chava
01-22-2008, 07:06 PM
Go ahead and let em loose. If it doesn't work out, you'll know and not worry about it anymore. (if be a little heartbroken..) Better to have tried and failed than never to try at all.

I pass the question on

Shurtugal
01-22-2008, 07:39 PM
you are cruel to pass that questionto a 14 year old girl who has just lost something dear.... oh well. Frankly, i don't know. as i said i'm only 14 (evil age) but what ever you do, i wish you the best. for i rather not be blamed for what ever happens. good luck though!

why does realizing you just lost the most important thing to you hurt so much?!

Shalot
01-22-2008, 09:05 PM
Because you haven't accrued enough hurt in your life yet.

Do you ever log on to Lit Net and see who is on and then click on their names to see what they're doing right now?

If you could see any musical performance ever done, which one would it be? (this can be anything -- from an original Wagner opera to the Beatles playing in the Cave in Liverpool -- anything...)

AimusSage

Wagner triggered it. I want to see Der ring des Nibelungen, all four parts. (not in one continuous performance though! :eek2:

If you're a bottle of wine, what does the cork represent?

kiz_paws

And what about you, next poster? What would your satchel contain?

Bakiryu
01-24-2008, 08:02 PM
it'd be heavy with art supplies, mixed tapes and for some reason a note that says........................."So long...................and thanks.............for all.....................teh FISH!" :p

The Bookinator
01-24-2008, 09:56 PM
Most certainly. Why, without it, what would swim in the sea? Beyond those whales and shrimp I mean... They'd be lonely. :(

(Monty Python ripoff) So... I've got 3 whole questions for the next poster. First, WHAT is your name? WHAT is your favorite color? And WHAT is the number of licks it takes to get to the center of a Totsie pop?

What would you do if you see a child crying in the street?!

Remarkable
01-25-2008, 10:10 AM

What about you?

zanna
01-25-2008, 03:44 PM
I would ask if the child had anyone they could be with (Mom, Dad, etc.), and I would try to be comforting, maybe give them a tissue if I had one, but I would try not to be scary, too, because that would just make it worse!

our science teacher told us that blue is a shorter wavelength and scatters more, and that's why the sky is blue. presumably, the same laws of physics apply on Mars, meaning the sky should be blue there too.

Name a quirky tradition from your place of origin, an example: From where I lived in Indonesia, it was required, that if you drove down a cat with your car, you must get out and bury it in your shirt.

Pensive
03-02-2008, 03:53 PM
A newly-bred woman shouldn't take part in any activities related to kitchen until about a month or so of her marriage. This is the work of her sisters-in-law or mother-in-law or anybody but her...though of course it's broken many times. Everybody doesn't have sisters-in-law/mothers-in-law and even if they have, not necessarily they are to be this good...

What does 'friendship' mean to you?

Name a quirky tradition from your place of origin, an example: From where I lived in Indonesia, it was required, that if you drove down a cat with your car, you must get out and bury it in your shirt.

Nice tradition , but I think that everyone has to take another shirt always reserve. :)

Friendship is a large word, friendship is not only feelings, but these sentiments are translated into action. Each individual must choose his friends well.

What "Freedom" mean to you?

Oniw17
03-05-2008, 05:25 AM
Freedom like most things worth having is only an unreachable ideal. You can never be completely free, there are always the laws which govern matter and energy if nothing else. The best you can hope for is to become an asymptote to freedom, which would necessarily mean absolving emotional bonds and not being held captive by the subjectivities(similar to Plato's universals;how you feel when you read, etc; No, nobody else uses the word in that context, I think) that we feel for things we love(like reading). To me this isn't perferable. So with freedom, like with all great things(except subjectivities) we need moderation. That means that freedom in the practical sense means to be sovereign of what you do and to have discipline.

What does the word 'love' mean to you?

MidniteHowl
03-06-2008, 03:49 PM
Love, let me see. It's a tricky question, a really tricky question indeed. I would associate love with all the feelings, that when all gathered together, there's no need for more to be added.
What it means for me? Well, that's a whole other story. Love means everything for me. It's like waking up each morning with the suns' rays galantly touching ur face, making you thrive and in the same time capable of doing anything. Love is the feeling of feelings, of which without we are nothing but a mere grain of sand in the wind.

What would do if you found out that the world you were living in isn't as you pictured it would be?

//sorry for any misspellings :blush:

Remarkable
03-06-2008, 05:45 PM
I have given this a lot of thought often and frankly,I don't know. There are some ideas, solutions or answers that come to one only when one is faced with a situation that needs this action.

This morning sixteen people died in a boat that drowned in a lake nearby. Many said:how is it possible that in this half warm weather these people were not able to swim or find another way of saving themselves? But then, one should also take in consideration the fact that these people were very scared and shocked and they knew not what to do.

I am not suggesting that it would be the same situation,I am merely saying that one never knows.I personaly think that I cannot be shocked easily, but fortunately, that still remains to be proved.

Do you think that civil disobedience is justified?

islandclimber
03-06-2008, 06:40 PM
yes, depending on the situation... it seems a good way to keep governments and systems of government changing, evolving, progressing... especially with governments that are now defunct (most, in this world)...

However I do think peaceful protest/disobedience is much better than violent, but depending on your viewpoint and beliefs I guess violent protest and rebellion can sometimes be justified...

anarchy serves its purpose as well... also some laws are ridiculous and disobedience is the often a way to point this out, to bring attention to this fact... look at the US patriot act...

Do you think life has a meaning, or are the nihilists right?

Bakiryu

Shalot
03-10-2008, 11:44 AM
the word "eugenics" is a little scary but in general, yes I support research into incurable diseases such as SMA. Retardation on the other hand, is sometimes the result of a freak accident or trauma so I think we will always have mentally handicapped persons with us. I think you should be able to purchase insurance for your mentally retarded dependent, but you can't.

Do you have a family member who is retarded or has Muscular Dystropy, SMA etc?

Well, when the tree falls down, there will be impact, right? So when the tree hits the ground and the air waves will travel into the whole forest, it will surely make a sound.

You're in love with your best friend, but your best friend is in love with someone else and only consider you as a sibling. 03-12-2008, 03:02 PM
I have never been kissed.

The tree creates waves in the but how do we know that it is a sound? For example,a deaf person woulden't recognise the noise,so basically there seems to be no noise. It is kind of like the question:Why do we decide that someone is crazy or not?On what criter? What is normal?

Anyone up for those questions?

pbmn
03-12-2008, 06:04 PM
A person is called crazy when they are posing a threat to the normal society, for when they are different (to an extreme). Normal is the "popular" idea of what we should do, what we should say, etc. Everyone is essentially crazy, but the fear of being casted aside as an outsider has created a trap that will be almost impossible to ever get out of. The few that show their "true colors" are locked away for being a threat to the peace. All in my opinion. (We had to read a book in History called Sophie's World, which is a crap book to begin with, but I remembered it talking somewhat on this topic.)
