How many pairs of shoes do you own?

Shalot
06-23-2007, 11:09 PM
actually I don't know :blush:

I have an assortment of sandals, boots, pumps and flats (and some of those fall in two or more categories). I justify this by telling myself that I have a job and if I show up everyday in the same pair of heels and hose I am going to stink, and then I will come to work and find an anonymous gift of foot deodorant in my chair.

This happened to the lady with the halitosis --- she came in one day only to find listerine in her chair.

Isn't it sad how you have to spend money you don't have so that can dress properly for the job you don't like? (It's things like this that make me think that I may have descended into one of Dante's layers of hell.)

Last night I had a great dream. My husband and I bought a bunch of bird seed and squirrel food and we put it out in the back yard. So every morning there are all these bunnies and squirrels and chipmunks in our yard and it's really neat. So my dream was about all the wildlife in our yard. What happened is the cat went outside and started a conversation with a little dog that happened to be there trying to get some chow and the cat brought the dog into the house and told me that we were going to have company for a while. and then I woke up and the news report that Liz Claiborne died was on the radio. And then I went to work. :(

since farnoosh didn't ask anything I will answer Scher's question also.

I just went to the library and checked The Brief History of the Dead and it was a good, light summer read.

According to this book, you go to a city and continue to live there with all the other dead people as long as there is someone still in the living world who remembers you. If no one on earth is still alive to remember you, then you disappear from the city.

I love so so many. "If" by Rudyard Kipling, Poe's "The Raven", right now I am in love with ee cumming's "since feeling is first"
since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;

wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a far better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
--the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids' flutter which says

we are for eachother: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life's not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

My favorite poem of the moment (and this changes periodically) is by William Blake:

The Garden of Love

I laid me down upon a bank,
Where Love lay sleeping;
I heard among the rushes dank
Weeping, weeping.

Then I went to the heath and the wild,
To the thistles and thorns of the waste;
And they told me how they were beguiled,
Driven out, and compelled to the chaste.

I went to the Garden of Love,
And saw what I never had seen;
A Chapel was built in the midst,
Where I used to play on the green.

And the gates of this Chapel were shut
And "Thou shalt not," writ over the door;
So I turned to the Garden of Love
That so many sweet flowers bore.

And I saw it was filled with graves,
And tombstones where flowers should be;
And priests in black gowns were walking their rounds,
And binding with briars my joys and desires.

07-11-2007, 08:51 PM
That whiny song about having a bad day by Daniel Powter

Cause you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day

No but that's funny to think about.

Do you miss buying actual CD's because of all the album art? (remember tapes from the eighties --- the lyrics might be printed on that long sheet of album coverthat folded out and there would be some glossy photo of the band or weird, random pictures of odd things here and there...)

Black is the absence of all colour, white is all the colors mixed together. Black is made when there's no color the eye can see because the object reflects all colours.
