Yes, many, a dog, three cats, 2 guinea pigs of doom, several fish and three bunnies, they're not all mine though, just share the same house. One cat is mine, but they all love me! :D Except for the fish, they're cold.

Perhaps I do not understand any abstract sense to the question, but let me take a peek outside . . . the skies appear mostly clear (rare in Portland, Oregon), but the first cloud I spotted (a cumulus cloud) looked a lot like the frothy bubbles atop a cappuccino, also due to its flat base. what's the last amazing movie you saw?

Mililalil XXIV
05-20-2006, 10:44 PM
A Little Princess
For some reason, this movie that just happened to be on in my living room during one meal, sitting with a niece, constantly brought unexpected tears to my eyes, and placed before my heart a vivid awareness of the pains little ones bear. I was going through great pains of my own, and it was good to feel my tears well up with only others in mind whom I wished to benefit in some way. I've never really experienced that with any movie before. (Only the scene of Borimir being shot to death with arrows while valiantly defending little hobbits, who had to see their hero die before their eyes, as the last they saw of him while being carried off by the killers, brought tears to my eyes in any movie watched in recent years.) Something about the way this movie kept unexpectedly having the same effect on me seemed to denote something masterfully done.

What is your own personal definition of perfection and has anything you ever made or created ever come close to it.

Shannanigan
05-24-2006, 10:01 AM
My personal definition of perfection is the unattainable goal that I look towards in guiding me to continue pushing to move forward in all aspects of my life; I strive to be the perfect daughter, sister, girlfriend, friend, best friend, granddaughter, neice, writer, teacher, tutor, waitress, speaker, athlete....and though I know I will never be perfect, my efforts in reaching perfection will cause me to be the best I can in all these roles I play in life. I don't think I have come close enough to perfection in anything I've made or created, though I do think that I have created things (mostly poems or short stories) that were nearly perfect for their time and situation.

Perfection is a quality differing things can have, in which nothing that completes a thing's nature is missing. I have more usually than not felt perfect Love for my neighbor, in a general way, but have also held it for a duration of time for one person alone I set myself apart from others for, even in thought, for Marriage one day.

I see perfection as attainable, but as something to yet be laid hold of for me in more than 50% of my life.

same q.

What is your own personal definition of perfection and has anything you ever made or created ever come close to it.
I characterize it as the unattainable state of now flaws or vices, and the infinite continuation of virtue, happiness, and pleasure.
Obviously, no, nothing I have made or created has come close to my definition. :p

Same question (good one!).

Dare2Dream18
05-24-2006, 06:58 PM
My definition of perfection is when you have created something a drawing, a poem, a story, or even a model airplane, and you can look at it and smile, because you can look at the flaws and you like them, you accept them because they add that extra hint of flavor that is your own unique style and personality. And yes the only thing that i have created that has matched such description would have to be a dragon that i drew, it took me about a year to really consider it perfect but, i can look at it now and accept it as it is because i believe it is my 1st true masterpiece, no matter the flaws that are within it.

Yes. When I worked in a woodworking factory, I placed a part into my machine, hit the feed and stepped around to catch the finished product, when I noticed the machine behind mine was on fire. I grabbed my extinguisher and rushed so fast to put it out, that the fire was out before I could even recall pulling the pin on the extinguisher! They said it was my quick thinking that kept the fire out of the dust system, but we still shut down for the rest of the day while they checked. I didn't have time to think, I just grabbed the extinguisher and took off. A sand belt had cut into a metal shaping block. They switched to non-flammable blocks.

This is the question, I want to answer....

Well, when I was in second grade, I was just recovering from my bestfriend's death -Karen, when I met my 2nd mother, well.. If things were up to me, she'd be my real mother. Ms. Gañgan. She's absolutely splendid, terribly wonderful and I love her sooo much!!! She really is the best person in the world and she listens to me... She's also taught me so many things like how to express myself and how to control rage and stuff... I really owe every ounce of pleasantness in myself to her... So.. I'd continue rambling but it'd be too long...

Definitely knowledge; almost nothing sounds worse than the agony and oblivion of ignorance, though it remains unfelt. In essence, I would rather admit my ignorance with knowledge, feel it, know it, and try to increase it; both knowledge and ignorance seem inevitably inseparable, but I would at least strive hardest for the former.

Having met a few really 'evil' persons, I'd say I believe in them. But I don't think their 'evil' nature is innate. I beleive that do to certain inherint geins in your body you will react a certain way to certain things, but the extremities of this can be manipulated by your past. So no I do not beleive a person is born evil, for if I beleived that I would have to beleive in predeterminizm and if I beleived that then there could be no evil because evil is a flaw in charactor and how can you be flawed if you have no choice?

Well, since few things make me feel guilty, I only really feel guilty if i don't live up to something that is expected, academically, promisses that i might have broken, and so forth, but something that really makes me feel guilty is like now, procrastinating the srudy of flatworms and other pathogens, so that i can read, or as now... be online... sad really...

Same question:

I don't feel guilty about anything that I do. Though there are things that I do on the sly, I do them without any qualms. However, I conscientiously adhere to the principle, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." But only to the extent it is reasonable. I can't and won't stop eating chicken because I wouldn't like being eaten by a chicken.

There being no uniform and invariable standard for judging right and wrong, I've stopped judging myself and others. Right and wrong is merely a creation of the society. To be more precise, right and wong is the dictate of the mighty in the society and the majority is not necessarily the migty in all societies. I agree that some norms are required to harmonize the conflicting interests of individuals.
But, if I were living alone on Mars, I would say, "Right is what is good for me."
But, if I were living with my wife on Mars, I would say, "Right is what is good for me and her"
And, if I were living with my wife and children, I would say, "Right is what is good for our family."
And, if our family had a neighbour on Mars, I would say, "Right is what is good for my family and our neigobours."

Nope My plan 10 years ago involved me having finished my phd in immunology last June and currently working as a research scientist....funny how things change.

Same Question (for once not just cos I'm too lazy to think of one)

Interesting question, for I have always wondered the significance of the letters 'RJ' in your screen name - your initials, perhaps?

To the person below me: have you regretted falling out of contact with many past friends or family members?

Chava
06-10-2006, 03:51 AM
Not really. I think i'm highly selective about friends, which leads to my very dormant social life. A friend once said that it was because i treat most my aquaintnces like colleagues more so than friends, which keeps people at a distance and which sooner or later means i lose contact. Sometmes i find it sad, but other times it's a big relief.
(gosh, i sound so anti-social)

Having reviewed lots (several hours per day) for my nursing comprehensive board exam (for RN licensure), I have learned and re-learned many, many things. A few interesting things regard various neurological and endocrine disorders (two areas that greatly interest me), their signs and symptoms, treatment, prevention, and potential complications.

Yes I have, unfortunately! Since this is a public forum, I cannot disclose what I have learned, it would be improper  Let's just say that some rumors are true

PAM, What is your biggest mistake?

RJbibliophil
06-11-2006, 07:22 PM
My biggest mistake would probably be answering this question, because then I would have to reminde myself (again) of all the little idiotic mistakes I made, which if it weren't for them, I might have better relationships with some people I would like it if were my friends.

Do you have many friends you can turn to in RL?

papayahed
06-11-2006, 07:57 PM
I didn't think I did until you asked the question but after thinking about the people I can turn to I think it's a decent number. The only problem is that they're all at least 800 miles away.

Not many, but a decent number -- oftentimes, I'm the one people turn to. I like being someone that people trust.

I’ve always wanted to fight my battles alone and I have. I’m not claiming to be brave and strong, I had no choice.

I’ve always wished, since my childhood, that there was someone I could turn to, but there was none. A year ago, when things would've compelled me to turn to someone, I took off to a distant place where no one knows me and I have not communicated with anyone I knew, ever since. I received e-mails initially, but, now, everybody seems to have given up hope that I would reply, so they have stopped. Its been year; I’ve worked my butt off, I’ve made new friends and I have a new life. Life is a pain and it’s thrilling.

I do, yes. But again most of them live over 10,000 km away... But i do have a close friend here whom is the most compassionate and empathetic person i've ever met. That's a real comfort.

To the person below me: about what time do you often wake in the morning, and what time do you usually go to sleep?

AimusSage
06-13-2006, 05:00 PM
I usually try to get to bed around twelve but often find myself not turning in before 2 AM. Waking up is extremely random, but usually between 6 and 10 AM.

Same Q.

RJbibliophil

I usually try to be in bed, trying to sleep, not chatting with the lights out(I share a room) by 10:00-10:30 p.m. I usually get up between 7 and 8

Bed calls at 10, and my exhausted brain just hit's the standby mode. I usually wake up at 6.15 in the morning so that i can bike to school in time.

Always erratic. I work night, day, and afternoon shifts. In the fall, hopefully my school schedule will straighten everything out . . . my head doesn't work when I'm on this type of schedule.

SAME Q

I usually go to sleep whenever I'm tired. Or when there is something important to do the next day, I'll try and sleep earlier. If I can't fall asleep(which is rare) I'll take a sleeping pill.
