I ask because a certain church in Kansas is doing that here, a funeral of a policeman killed at VA Tech (my son's school) last week by a gunman who then killed himself. Pendragon
02-03-2012, 10:17 AM
As much as I would like to say no, the answer is probably, at least for a time.
A case in point. One guy on my job had been hassling me for weeks. I tried a lot of solutions, but no go. So I pulled a good one. When we were given our pay stubs (direct deposit), he left his laying on the work table. I copied the address, and sent him a free magazine offer on what to do if you suspect that you may have contracted a vernal disease. He got rather quiet after that, even though he couldn't prove I did it. I understand that his wife threw one hell of a fit! HA! HA!
Would you pull something like this?
MystyrMystyry
02-03-2012, 11:08 AM
Amusing, but no - or at least not quite, because Bad Karma can be caused by inadvertently causing someone else grief (in this case the wife, whom, at least as far as we know, is a completely innocent party). Thus a better solution would have been to send vacation brochures to exotic locales - she may then ultimately get a bonus holiday, and he may be the one who has to foot the bill.

Would you cut off your right hand in order to get into heaven?
BookBeauty
02-05-2012, 11:24 AM
No. Mostly because I can't take the concept of 'Heaven' seriously, but also because I don't see the sense in cutting off one's hand for any reason, unless it were life-or-death, or saving the life of a loved one. Kind of reminds me of the Saw movies.

Would you commit murder if it meant protecting a loved one?
Delta40

Since we're all capable of murder I'd say yes under the right circumstances. I'm not sure what those circumstances would be, although it would probably have to involve my children rather than any other family member.

You've found a 20 dollar bill on the ground! Would you look around for the owner before pocketing?
I probably wouldn't pick it up. I'd just leave it for the next person who came along. Someone once told me to consider what if it'd been the last money of a poor mother or tramp and they came back to trace their steps and it was gone. I sound awfully self-righteous, don't I. I don't mean to though.
Would you have an affair with a married man/woman? :aureola: or  ? :D

Would you turn in a drug addicted friend to the police if you knew it would get them the help they needed?

But, if I'm humouring you and assuming that I do know anything, let alone this, for certain, I probably would.

If you witnessed a man or woman in a grocery store with their child, being rough and, in your opinion at least, borderline abusive (Grabbing, dragging, etc) , would you intervene with their parenting methods?
PoeticPassions

No, it's not my place to do so. Though if they were severely beating the child, I would have to at least say something.
Would you?
BookBeauty
04-06-2012, 10:35 AM
If I thought they were being borderline abusive, I'd call them out on it, yeah. They may continue, or because they've been given a public spotlight, maybe they would re-evaluate their choices.
Sometimes we do the wrong thing without knowing it before we're shown. A recent study shows that people who do unethical behaviour only do so because they are not shown disapproval by people in public.
I'd likely approach them and say something along the lines of, ''I'm really very sorry to bother you, sir or madame, and I don't wish to push my beliefs on you or to be rude, but I think that the way you're treating junior is disturbing the customers as well as the employees.''
At worst, I could be insulted, or attacked verbally for speaking out and going into another person's business. If attacked physically, then that would prove the justification of my speaking. In either scenario, the perceived consequences of my actions don't bother me.

Would you marry someone you were not in love with for practical reasons?
aliengirl
08-09-2012, 06:41 AM
You need to elaborate upon 'practical reasons'. If a hundred innocent lives or the fortune of my nation depends upon such a marriage, I'll jump into it. Who knows I may come to love that person later on? Love is a very unpredictable feeling. You may develop it for some quite unlikely persons. Likewise you may come to dislike/hate someone you've deeply loved.

lilimarlene
08-20-2012, 05:41 PM
common interests are important but more important for me are core values and emotional needs. In a perfect world we could have it all but I think I have a 1 in a million chance of that happening. I have also been in relationships where we had lots of interests in common but there were fatal character flaws that I overlooked because we were a good fit. I require someone intelligent and cultured that enjoys communicating but my criteria would not be if they could have a conversation about a book I had read. Of course I would need them to share some things in common, but more more importantly for me would be, did they have integrity? could they express and show love? could I depend on them if I needed them? were they kind? did they have a good sense of humour? were they stable? could they fit in my life, did they make me happy?
