I'd turn them over to the law authorities. If i didn't think that was enough punishment...well............................. accidents happen all the time.
heh. heh. joking, right? yes. joking.
Would you joke about something as serious as committing a felony?
Bianca Fransen
07-16-2005, 08:31 AM
Yes, definitely! I believe all things terrible are especially good to joke about...
If you had told a good friend a few years ago that you never wanted to see him again.. would you call him again to make up (I am doubting at this very minute)?
I probably would...but I must really really want to do it cos it's sometimes hard for me to look for people after a while. But yes, I even started to talk again to my ex-best friend when I happen to see her...it took me 6 years to be able to do that though..
Would you bore all the people you know by making them listen to your latest favourite band?
I have before many times, actually, until I noticed their boredom; so, no, if I knew one of my favorite bands bored them, I would not play it.
Would you ever travel just for the sake of traveling (not to visit someone, for scenery, for tourist attractions, etc.)?
Er...this question got to the right person... ;) Of course I would :D
Would you tell your best friend to stop judging and complaining about everything?
I thought you might answer this one, Koa, he-he.
Would you tell your best friend to stop judging and complaining about everything?
Definitely, and I have a few times. Especially with a best friend, honesty, to me, seems valued.
Would you ever allow your rommates to own more pets than you think your place could handle?
Probably not. I'm not sure I'd even like my roommates to have pets, I can barely stand my brother's cat and we're not even roommates, just flatmates :D
(or by roommate do you mean sharing the whole place? my flatmate in Hungary used the word roommate even if we weren't sharing a room, and her English was very American, so now I wonder).
Would you take some time to tidy up your desk even knowing that it will take less than 20 minutes before it's a mess again?:D
Miss Darcy
07-17-2005, 10:10 PM
Out of pity for myself...no, I don't think so. :D Only if someone important was going to be looking at it before those 20 minutes had elapsed.
Would you seek to find an island at sea if you knew that no one had ever returned from that island? (And yes, that is vaguely reminiscent of Dinotopia.)
kilted exile
07-17-2005, 11:58 PM
Yes, the way I see it this would leave one of 3 outcomes any of which I'd enjoy:
1) The island is perfect, and the reason nobody returned is no one wanted to leave.
2) The others never made it as far as the island, nobody there to bother me.
3) The island is rubbish, however as the first to return alive I am greeted with fame and adoration.
Would you "assist" someone who wanted to commit euthanasia?
papayahed
07-18-2005, 08:43 AM
Yes if there death was going to be inevitable (in a short amount of time - all our deaths are inevitable) and painful.
If you really wanted an expensive electronic device (I-Pod maybe) but couldn't afford it, would you buy one off the street that you knew was stolen?
Though it sounds tempting, I would not. Some new technology can get tracked by its code number, or production number, or something, while in use, plus it just sounds morally wrong to support someone who stole.
Would you help design/build something you have no passion or concern for, but for the sake of others?
Probably not. I can't do things if I have no passion for them, even if I try, the way I pursue the task and the crappy result make it clear that I have no passion for that
(er...just as my maths teacher at school always said it was evident that i couldnt care less about maths, even when I tried to struggle :D)
Would you buy something that is exactly the same as something you already have, just because you like it so much and you want another one of it? (be it clothes or something else that you can have two of)
Miss Darcy
07-19-2005, 02:46 AM
Yeah. I mean, when the first one wears out, you can use the second one...afterwards it might not be on the market (or in fashion) anymore. ;)
Would you eat something if you didn't know what it was (and it looked a little...strange...besides?)?
imthefoolonthehill
07-19-2005, 09:57 AM
depends on amount of hunger. If it was eat it, or die, then yes.
Would you go to more than an hours work to pull a prank on a coworker?
Bianca Fransen
07-19-2005, 03:38 PM
Ehm.. no.. but I am not much of a prankster.. So that's the reason. Might spend that much time on a surprise though - like a present or a party.
Would you forget the birthday of someone close to you?
Probably not, I remember even birthdays of people I havent seen for 10 years, and people I want to forget... Though sometimes I happen to wake up knowing that it's X's birthday and by the time I see the person I forgot already... but no, if it's someone really close chances are I've had that in mind for weeks before.
Would you show to new people even the bad sides of your character, or would you try to be a good person for as long as possible in their presence?
Bianca Fransen
07-19-2005, 03:55 PM
Ehm.. both.. I would tell them "Oh, I can be pretty bad in that and that way" but then I would try to act the opposite, to make people say "Oh, you're not that bad"... And then later they find out I spoke the truth .
Would you push yourself to the limit in reaching your goal even if it means that if you push a bit too hard that you will go mad from lack of sleep (experience speaking here ;) )?
No, I'm lazy, I set my goals high then lower them until they require no effort. It's horrible :(
Would you be able to learn something (eg, a language) by studying it all by yourself? No classes, no exams?
Yes, but only to a limit. Though I have not attended a course in French in some time, I continue to study it by myself, but I feel I need a good course in its conversation, as I can never practice the language interaction with others (since no one else I know studies French!).
Would you give a homeless person spare change, when asked, even if you had little money, but enough, for yourself?
imthefoolonthehill
07-19-2005, 06:26 PM
i'm pityless. I don't give money. If i really felt sorry for him, i'd take him to McDonalds for lunch.
Would you give a hitch-hiking granny a ride?
(LOL is taking someone to McDonalds a sign of feeling sorry for them? :P LOL just couldnt help the joke...;))
Probably not, I'm way too suspicious of anyone...
Would you download a song from your favourite band's next album, which is due in a few months, or would you wait for the official release to hear it?
(my current big dilemma)
Bianca Fransen
07-20-2005, 01:47 PM
Ehm.. I would probably wait - because I think the sound is better from my stereo and I would be afraid to ruin the first impression..
Would you hire an advocate if someone had robbed you of some money?
A lawyer/attorney? Though I would probably not enjoy going to court, I most likely would, if I had some kind of proof that someone robbed me.
Would you, if you had the money, purchase an electric car, which seem more healthy for the environment?
papayahed
07-20-2005, 03:22 PM
I've been thinking of purchasing an eletric hybrid....but I'm not convinced all the "bugs" are worked out of them, so I decided to give it a few more years before I get one.
Would you continue a bad habit (I'll say pickcing one's nose in front of people, for lack of a better example) if it made you happy but disgusted of your loved ones?
Bianca Fransen
07-20-2005, 03:41 PM
I would try to stop.. but have to admit I kept some bad habits my ex found hard to bear .
Would you walk for four days - 50 kilometres a day - just for fun (as people in Holland did some weeks ago)?
imthefoolonthehill
07-20-2005, 09:18 PM
50 km.... hmmm... I walked for 10 miles a day in the most mountainous terrain in idaho for 5 days.... just for fun, wearing a 50 pound pack
Would you canoe? I Canoe, can you?
(LOL) No I wouldn't... or maybe I wouldnt look for a way to do it but if I was given the chance, maybe - and I say maybe - I'd try...
Would you feel very nervous about going to a new and very different place?
shortysweetp
07-21-2005, 11:28 AM
always i hate moving
would you transfer universities just because?
Well that's what I practically did... I just felt awful where I was so I changed Uni, I still hate having chose that first Uni, it was my biggest mistake ever and it made me waste one year of my life :(
Would you buy things just because they are on your favourite colour? :)
papayahed
07-21-2005, 02:20 PM
Just because of the color? No. If I was buying something I would definately look for it in my favorite color...
Would you ever toilet paper someone's house? if you felt they deserved it?
No, as a confused teenager, I almost did to someone I had a great dislike for, but got occupied with something else (lucky for me, as others got caught in the act, getting in much trouble). Even now, no, as it seems a worse alternative for facing problems in a more just, peaceful manner.
Would you use your air-conditioner a lot in your apartment, due to extremely warm weather, even though it raises your electric bill considerably?
Bianca Fransen
07-21-2005, 04:55 PM
Yes, I would. I always forget to think about the bills... But luckily it has never gotten me in great trouble..
Would you fall for Rhett Butler if you were Scarlett O'Hara (in this were your book)?
OH YES OH YES OH YES ABSOLUTELY!!!
(I guess that's clear enough ;))
Would you feel the need to answer to a question in a game even if you have no clue what to ask next?:D
Bianca Fransen
07-22-2005, 04:40 PM
Not only I would, but I do right now.. :p
Ehm..
Would you use the kind of magic that Hermione has (in Harry Potter, part 5 I believe it is) that enables her to be on two places at the same time if that could have serious consequences?
No, my simple mind keeps itself ridiculously busy and overwhelmed while even taking one situation at a time. :D
Would you steal food for survival if homeless?
Bianca Fransen
07-22-2005, 05:38 PM
If I could - yes.. but I am very clumsy..
Would you stay up all night not to miss a beautiful sunset?
Absolutely! I have stayed up very late for meteor showers, and, in fact, an aurora appeared last night - very beautiful - and I would definitely for nearly anything with natural beauty.
Same question.
Miss Darcy
07-22-2005, 10:28 PM
We stayed up late to see Mars when it was closer to Earth than ever before...but to answer the question, it would really depend on how busy I was. If it was the holidays, and I had enough time to catch up on sleep....yes, definitely!
Would you write a book even if you knew you would never get it published?
I have, but never attempted publication, and, presently, work on another. :p
Would you ever write in a style, conforming to literary trends, to get more readers?
Bianca Fransen
07-23-2005, 04:41 AM
No, I write a book that I myself like to read :D , but that owing to its style is probably absolutely incomprehensable to others. I will try to get it published though , but if that succeeds I just don't expext many readers :D. But I can write this book in no other way.. and don't want to.
Would you include autobiographical passages in a book you are writing - if you are not very complimentary about one person.. and you think that person might recognize him-/herself?

<<<
We stayed up late to see Mars when it was closer to Earth than ever before.nice, were you able to see it? it was very foggy then in northern california. pish.>>>
I witnessed the Mars encounter also - beautiful!
As for the question, if you mean encorporating autobiographical concepts of yourself into fictional characters, I say yes; I do it all of the time, and find it nearly inevitable, as the imagination can only extend so far, and originates in one's self, regardless.
Would you risk your own happiness, out of love, for another's happiness?
imthefoolonthehill
07-25-2005, 01:05 AM
yes.
would you take mind-altering medication if a team of doctors and several close friends told you that you needed to?
Miss Darcy
07-25-2005, 03:06 AM
Never ever EVER! I don't take medications. I haven't been to a doctor for years...
nice, were you able to see it? it was very foggy then in northern california. pish.>>>
Yeah, at the time I was actually in the Czech Republic, not far from Prague but far enough to avoid the interference of city lights. :) It was really beautiful.
Would you...go into a forest alone if all you had was a red coat and a basket for blueberries? :D
LOL... NO :P
Would you block people on messenger if they are boring, even if they are actually very nice and caring people, just a bit...'heavy' to stand?
Bianca Fransen
07-25-2005, 04:45 PM
Ouch.. I have to be brutally honest, of course...Eventually (after many months of doubting): yes.
Would you wander for hours through a city at night time?
I have many times, especially with nice weather; luckily, my city has relatively low crime rates, and it seems quite peaceful, for a big city (plus, I just love walking ;)).
Would you ever adopt a pet from the Humane Society?
(for those who do not know, the Humane Society provides shelter for abandoned, neglected, and/or abused pets until adoption)

Mono my friend, I'd love to answer the question, but " a better result to problems" has me quite confused. Do you man a (seemingly) better SOLUTION to a particular problem?
*edit*
On second thought, I decided to change the question; I read it, and it sounded quite confusing, sorry. :p
Well it got me confused as well yesterday...
Uhm...answer... No, I'm not really a big fan of pets (I'm not patient, not caring, and live in a flat/apartment as most people here) so I wouldnt want one... but if I wanted, I guess that association would be fine.
Would you stay up until you have finish checking any new post you want on the forum, not to miss anything, even if you're literally falling asleep?
Miss Darcy
07-27-2005, 10:48 PM
No...I'd do it the day after.
Would you ring someone who has been leaving you anonymous voice messages?

07-27-2005, 11:29 PM
Huh? ..........
If the incident happened enough times, yes; I would wonder who kept calling me. This occurred not long ago, actually, someone from out of my state kept leaving weird text messages on my cell phone; finally, I called the number, and the woman mistook my phone number for someone else's.

would you drink regular soda even though you are trying to lose weight just because you really wanted it?
btw thank you bianca
Bianca Fransen
07-28-2005, 12:16 PM
Yep, and I can safely say this, because a) I am al-ways trying to loose weight, b) I always take regular soda and just love it :thumbs_up *hmm, reading this, makes me wonder whether there is a connection  *

would you lie to a friend to make them feel better about themselves?
Oh, and Mono and Shortysweetp: I just love the way you guys changed your avatars
Thank you, Bianca. ;)
would you lie to a friend to make them feel better about themselves?
Never. To me, an innocent ("white") lie does not exist - fairly dominant idea, I know.
Instead, I would maintain honesty and tell him/her the true better aspects to feel happy about, and help all I can with any problems.
Would you purchase something extremely expensive for your significant other, even if it would set you back financially, perhaps, for months?

No, not at all. Sure, seeming a minority in certain, sometimes trendy, desires can appear strange to others, but, keep in mind, only a minority of people seem actually intelligent.

would you ever be a bully for no reason at all?
Sitaram
07-29-2005, 05:12 AM
Would you ever be a bully for no reason at all?
The simple answer to the question, for me, is no.
But there is a fascinating reason why there is a fundamental flaw inherent in the very nature of this question.
I shall return to elaborate.
***OK, now that I have posted and reserved my place in the thread...
IF someone has the words "bully" and "gratuitous" in their vocabulary, then it is meaningless to ask them if they would "choose" to become a bully who delights in gratuitous cruelty and violence, since their consciousness of these words and concepts would mean that it is against their very nature to choose gratuitous violence and inflict suffering for no good reason. But on the other side of the coin, if you were to question someone who IS by their very nature a bully, then they would not be conscious of what they are, at least not in the sense that they would ever say they do it for no reason at all.
The perfect example was a documentary on television once, about "wolves" in the prison system (men who repeatedly rape other prisoners against their will). They interviewed one such wolf, and asked him why he did this, and he gave a long discussion about how he had experienced a wretched and deprived childhood, and how no one had ever gave him a birthday party or a present or loved him or cared what happened to him, so... in his mind, it was only right and fair and just that he inflict suffering and humiliation on these other men, since it was unfair that they had nicer lives, while he had suffered. In his own mind, he was simply evening the score (you see, in his mind he HAD excellent reasons to do what he did.)
And, to conform to the rules of the game, my question is:
If some all powerful genie or deity or demon came to you with a choice: You may live for 100 years in happiness, but when you die, the world is destroyed, or would you choose to die immediately, and a painful death, but the world will be guaranteed 100,000 years of safety (but no one would ever know of your choice); would you choose to suffer and die for the sake of the world?
(By the way, I recently posed this very question to someone who is quite brilliant and educated, and a published author in a certain field, and he unhesitatingly answered that he would take the 100 years of life, not because he was greedy for pleasure or afraid of death and suffering, but simply because he saw it as the more sensible choice, since, for him, the human race as a whole is so worthless and destructive that it would be pointless to guarantee it another 100,000 years of rampage. I had told him, initially, that I would choose the martyric death, precisely because it would give my own death meaning and purpose.)
The others not knowing would still mean that your martyric death had a meaning and a purpose? When you're dead and the world keeps on living, your meaning and purpose of dying dies with you. Did you mean that you knowing in your last moments that your death might have had a purpose would be enough for you to die willingly? Just curious.

Curiosity is the highest form of insubordination. - Nabokov
Good question! And my answer is, "Yes, it would be sufficient for me and me alone to realize that I had acted in a noble fashion and sacrificed my own life and personal pleasure for the sake of future generations."
Obviously, not everyone feels or thinks the way I do, nor do I have any right to impose my own idiosyncracies and values upon others. Whenever we choose to write and publish, we do impose ourselves, potentially, upon posterity in the sense that we leave behind us a legacy, to be read. And there is always the danger that our legacy may survive, like a rosetta stone, and one day be rediscovered, and taken seriously.
Consider that obscure poet who wrote "The Tobacconist".
http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12693
All that was left of his life was a chest of manuscripts, found in his wretched, rented, furnished room. But, as fate would have it, it was a chest that survived, and was one day open, and read, and taken seriously.
If you happened to read my long post on the Baudelaire Seminar
http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?p=101273#post101273
You will notice that I sat silently through the seminar, only taking notes.
I mention this because I want to speak of a certain kind of "forebearance".
It is the forbearance mentioned in the "Life of Pi" post, in the explanation of "Tsimtsum".
http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4365
(see #18)
An ancient Indian poet Tulsi Das, rewriting the oldest of stories, and one of the best, the Ramayana ,adds this "the gods themselves live by forbearance"... they live by drawing back.
And so it is written of Jesus in Philippians that he "took on himself the form of a servant..." The Greek word Kenosis or self-emptying can parallel the Tsimstsum and perhaps each word enriches the other a little. Unfortunately few people have set them together! But you and I may today and see therefore the sign of the cross on the creation of the world itself, and then the cross as no isolated moment
but the heart of a deep mystery of creation-by-making-space.
Into that space which God made, light entered... and from the light came all the worlds and all the persons and you and I...
Forebearance can become a way of life; a practice.

Yes, as I always pack on the last day before I leave, and not a day sooner. I don't really see the need to start packing earlier.
Would you negatively use other people to further your personal goals?
Bianca Fransen
07-29-2005, 02:20 PM
Not knowingly... but I do tend to be egotistical to attain things I want - I stop looking around me and noticing that I might hurt others.
Would you jump in a train even if it was already moving (but the door is still open)?
I suppose it depends on how fast the train traveled, how badly I needed in the train, and why. If needed, yes, I would.

If you were being put to death (wrongfully of course) would you chose to die by hanging or firing squad?
Bianca Fransen
07-30-2005, 04:44 AM
Firing squad.. It makes me very scared to think of dying by suffocation - for me a couple of seconds under water are already quite a feat :goof:
Would you try to escape if you were sent to jail?
Miss Darcy
07-30-2005, 05:22 AM
Depends on the circumstances. If the punishment wouldn't be...er...anything fatal in the not-unprobable case that they caught me, then I'd probably try...but I think after a few attempts I'd probably just give up and submit to being caged up...I would certainly *try* to escape, though.
Of course, that's if my conscience was clear. :p
Seriously, if I had to spend a long time in jail then I would HAVE to have 1) paper 2) pen (for writing and drawing) 3) pencil and 4)...I would put this first but somehow I'm not sure if they'd let me bring my violin. :D
Would you steal if the life (or lives) of a loved one(s) depended on your stealing? (nothing serious, not drugs or cameras or anything expensive, just...I dunno, a loaf or two of bread, like Jean Valjean?)
Bianca Fransen
07-30-2005, 06:53 AM
Yes.

would you travel the world and leave your family behind if they slowed you down?
lets say that you had to travel the world in 80 days or they would die.
That would probably depend on my purpose for traveling. I would never travel in a hurry, but if my family and I wanted to see very different things, then I would consider it; but a great part of traveling seems experiencing things with people you love, in my opinion.

I have too many times in the past, and felt disgustingly ill afterwards, and have discovered a few foods I liked, but, if I knew the food had no meat (or meat derivatives), then sure. :D
Same question . . .
would you eat something you had no clue what was if someone you love told you to try it?
AimusSage

I probably would, but would first dissect it carefully to find out what exactly it is, and only eat it if I am absolutely positive it is not something I am allergic to.
Would you let someone you really don't like get hurt? example; He/She is about to do something that you know will get them hurt, but you don't tell.
Bianca Fransen

Noop. Even if I really, really don't like someone I cannot watch them get hurt if I could prevent it.
Would you let someone close that might hurt your feelings and has done so in the past?
AimusSage

No, I don't let anyone get close ever (in an emotional sense that is)
Would you watch reality TV?
Bianca Fransen

No, I don't let anyone get close ever (in an emotional sense that is)
;) I am NOT going to ask you in which sense you do let people come close.. :D
Would you watch reality TV?
Yes, I like watching reality TV. Especially when I am tired.

If I had enough time while moving, I would, but I probably would not make an effort to do it well.
If your neighbors kept persisting being loud at odd times of the day (and night), would you speak to them yourself, or make a complaint to the apartment managers?
Miss Darcy
08-01-2005, 05:47 AM
Speak to them myself and if it persisted call the police (I live in a house, but if I lived in an apartment I'd go for the apartment managers, of course)...I'm very sensitive towards noise, our neighbours had a long, loud party once just before one of my concerts and I couldn't sleep...*grr*
Same question. *Too tired to think of anything else*

Would you purchase a really cute piece of furniture that was 50% off because it had a small but noticable scratch?
Sure, furniture always costs too much, and it seems much easier repaired than purchased at full price, especially while on a college budget. :D
Would you ever live entirely alone in nature, "thriving on the land," so to speak, for two years as Henry David Thoreau did in Walden, just for the experience?
Miss Darcy

Yes, yes, YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Same question, not because I'm too tired but because it's so good. ;)
Bianca Fransen

Would you pay $80 for a concert ticket if it was your favorite band?
AimusSage
08-02-2005, 05:03 PM
$ 80? Absolutely, Maiden is priceless. I actually think the going rate for high profile concert tickets might just be going in that direction. At least in Holland they are around 50 euro, which is about $ 60.
Would you try to get loose, when you are hand cuffed? (for whatever reason/crime/arrest)

Would you go paragliding if you had the chance?
baddad
08-04-2005, 02:44 AM
ABSOLUTELY!!! In fact, I was pointing out some great sheer mountain peaks to my friend the other day that would be damn perfect for paragliding. Of course, the real test is the courage to run and jump into a 4000-10,000 foot gorge......YEEEE-HAWWW.....

Would you partake in a medical examination for money?
It depends on the purpose, but, yes, I think I would. Going to nursing school, I feel as if we students often examine each other professionally anyway (and we pay for school! :p).
Would you attempt resolving a violent fight you witnessed between two strangers?

Bianca Fransen
08-05-2005, 06:23 PM
Wow.. ehm.. I would walk close, but be afraid to interfere.. so I would call the police on my mobile while keeping the fight in view. Maybe I would try to get someone else to interfere. What did you do?
Would you try to get two people to talk to each other again if they have fallen out with each other and you know them both (not from my own life, just wondering)?

No, if they want to work things out, they will.
Would you, without protection, fight an irritated, starving grissly bear for 100,000 dollars, if you needed it to save an ill family member?
Heh...complicated, that one...I'd go for a "no" just for the $100,000, but to save an ill family member?
Common sense says no. But if the family member were someone close? pleads conscience. Common sense still says no. If the bear were starving and irritated, and I had only my "bear" hands...(okay, bad joke, but..) it would be more likely that I wouldn't have much chance of saving the family member anyway.
Would you go on a theme park ride that had never been tested before if you were paid a large compensation for it?
GruesomeBugman

compensation or not--yes I would.
below me--same question, I enjoy it.
Bianca Fransen
08-06-2005, 11:23 AM
Ehm, really depends on the kind of theme park ride. I did not have the guts to get in the Goliath in Walibi World in Holland.. despite it having been thouroughly tested.. But if the ride would look relatively harmless, I would.
Would you write your mum e-mails saying that you really love her, because she sends you e-mails with this message.. even if you are not completely sure you are truthful (ouch, I realise how awful this sounds.. but just say hypothetically )?
What did you do?
I tried breaking up the fight, after telling someone nearby to call the police, while still trying to maintain a safe distance. I ended the physical fighting part, but they continued yelling all sorts of things, not quite for forum ears. :D
Would you write your mum e-mails saying that you really love her, because she sends you e-mails with this message.. even if you are not completely sure you are truthful (ouch, I realise how awful this sounds.. but just say hypothetically )?
Yes, I would. I love both of my parents dearly, but for my step-mother, I do not quite have the greatest feelings; regardless, I tell her I love her, more out of respect than motherly love.
Would you ever back-pack (meaning walk, stopping at places for food and essentials) across various foreign countries, just for the experience?

Would you give up your most prized posession for the greatest night of your life?
Bianca Fransen
08-07-2005, 05:33 AM
Haha.. as long as the "most prized posession" is not my memory (or one of my friends or sisters, but I cannot think of them as a posession).. yes, I would.
Like this question, so I ask the same..
Yes, I probably would, of course, depending on what entails 'the greatest night of my life.' Experience always sounds better than material possessions, but that would have to seem some great night.
Would you purchase your available college books early to begin studying (for what will seem the most difficult year of school), or enjoy the remains of your vacation?
AimusSage
08-07-2005, 03:03 PM
Enjoy the remains of the holiday for sure. I don't like studying and I rarely ever do it anyway. So far I passed with decent enough grades and marks, so I am not really bothered. Dunno what I would do with a really difficult year, never had one of those.
Would you believe gossip about your friends if you hear it second hand?
Taliesin
08-07-2005, 03:07 PM
Probably not. Although we might start suspecting.
This question requires one to have read "The Puppet Masters" by Robert Heinlein:

Hypothetically, if you needed surgery for something, would you allow surgeons and anesthesiologists to use an experimental anesthesia, if they asked your permission?
No. I'd try to cure it naturally before seeing a doctor at all; and once I did I think I'd want something that had already been established.
Would you tell someone how you felt about them if you were generally a shy sort of person by nature?
Adelheid
08-15-2005, 10:40 AM

Would you ever kill someone if he/she has done something terrible to you?
Never.
Would you voluntarily allow yourself to have a near-death experience if you knew you would come back?
If I knew I would come back, then maybe, but it really depends on the unpleasantness of the means.
Same question (good one!).
Bianca Fransen
08-16-2005, 02:15 PM
Yes, I probably would. I am very curious..
If you were an excellent musician would you use your talent in a second-rate music group if this would make you earn more money?
No. I don't like second-rate music groups...of course if I was very pressed for money I probably would, if reluctantly.
Same question.
Adelheid
08-17-2005, 04:46 AM
No, I don't think so. Playing in a second rate music group would lower your overall standard, and seem ungrateful to your teachers and those who helped you go that far.
If you could have a choice of any wish in the world, what would it be?
I would if I could...uhm...there's so much...and yet I can't remember anything. :p When you think about it, wishing for something is all very well, but though it is often in our power to help make that wish happen, it is only very rarely that we do work towards our wishes. We continue wishing, sighing, complaining, but what use does it have? If one wishes for something, then I feel one should also work hard towards being a better person, and then at least deserve to have that wish granted, whatever it is. So many wishes are in vain.
That said, I'd wish there wasn't so much poverty and hunger in the world. We live in the 21st century, with advanced scientific and technological knowledge...with computers, televisions, cars, space travel, and new experiments being conducted...and yet, on the other side of the world, people still don't have enough to eat, don't have clean water to drink. How unjust that Western society can be so decadent, so immoral, so full of pointless frippery...the chase for pleasures, the chase of more things, the chase of happiness in a material shape...the chase of wealth, fame, status...while in the poorer countries people still die very young, live in squalid conditions - for them it could just as well be the Middle Ages. And on the other hand, there are people with billions of dollars, people with enough money to afford a journey to the moon and back (seriously, I was reading about it in the paper today...it costs US $1 billion per head, and they already have three bookings!) - people with four or five cars, a few computers, three or four televisions, big houses, enough food to throw away...people who spend their free time shopping...people, in short, who have too much. While there are still people, who have far too little.
It is all very well said, isn't it. But even if, physically, we do nothing to alleviate the plight of others (I know I'm sounding mighty serious tonight but firstly I'm tired and secondly it's a serious subject)...we should still be happy with what we have, and not pursue "more and more" so much. I'm not saying you should eat mouldy bread and rotten tomatoes...just that it's important to stop for a minute and appreciate how well off we are.
Now that is a very strange thing to get out of a "Would You?" thread, isn't it. But...it's a free world. ;) I'm sure that nobody will want to strangle me for posting a long semi-philosophical ramble in the games section...and if they do, well, I wish them luck in executing it. But I warn them - all they may end up with will be a tangled mess of electric cables. :D

08-18-2005, 02:38 PM
No I would not, I would consider them friends, but would never date them.
Would you feel stressed when having to tell someone really bad news? (being fired, dead of a relative)
It depends on who I must tell - one of my own family members/friends, or someone else. In my second term of nursing school, I lost a patient (on "comfort measures" anyway), and had to tell the family, which probably made me age 5 years in 5 five minutes. If I had to tell one of my own family members or friends, oddly, I would feel more comfortable, but probably more heart-broken.
Same question.

Would you ever take a month to live the life of the opposite gender of yourself?
Hmmm, interesting question. I must admit of loving living as a male. I suppose it may seem a very interesting experience to live as a female for a while, but a whole months sounds awfully long. After all, Samuel Taylor Coleridge did write of the most non-biased and experienced mind appearing androgynous.

adilyoussef
08-22-2005, 08:06 PM
Yes of course. They are humans after all.
Would you tell a person that he or she is going to die? Do you have the courage to?
Mmm, I'm reminded of Richard Feynman (great physicist) here...he and his wife (fiance at that time) had sworn that they would never lie to one another at the beginning; his wife became ill and they didn't know HOW ill until they did these tests on her. It turned out she was dying. He was going to tell her but his family persuaded him not to. Well...he ended up telling her in the end, but she was strong and faced death willingly. She still had about two or so years of life.
("What do you care what THEY think?" by Richard Feynman...very interesting autobiography.)
Anyway...:D that was a bit off topic. Depending who the person was...well I think I would, in any case; after all, if it's a painless death, those who are left behind suffer more in the long run by the loss of a loved one.

Definitely not. I'm not pro saying "I love you" to *anyone* in public, even if the person you're saying it to is your partner. It's just...weird. Love is a mutual thing, more than words...and treating those three particular words as an everyday thing just seems to make them bland and meaningless.

Yes. I would LOVE to! I only wished I had learned proper dancing (or ANY dancing at all!), and had an opportunity at a party to dance. :D
Have you ever learned dancing? Have you danced at a party before?
Ah well...I danced with my second-cousin (I define that as my mother/father's cousin's child) at my great-aunt's seventieth once, a long time ago now (and that was ballroom dancing)...didn't really learn for that, I just did it. :p

Would you experience danger because of the thrill itself?
Why eat it?
Sensible question. But for that matter, why eat any animal? Is it not disgusting to eat something that was alive and murdered? Think about it...eating chicken...lamb...it's no less disgusting than eating pig snouts or testicles or any part of a pig...eating animal organs...ugh...
I have heard of people who eat fried Tarentellas
Really? In what part of the world? Spain?
You know, I read somewhere that the dance was named that because it was what people where meant to do when bitten by the spider. :brow: I think it's the Italian word for it...
Would you experience danger because of the thrill itself?
Depends on what kind of danger. Sometimes danger can be fun, if it's not life-threatening...but usually, no. I stick to thrill rides. :p

Are you a closet sexist?? Should men perform 'man' chores (fix the car, cut grass etc, that are, well, manly?) and women 'girl' chores (shop,......uh.......uh..... *what do women do?* )
Yeah but no closet about it men should work and pay so that women can live in luxury and they should always stand up on buses and give women their eat if there are none left and carry thier bags etc....
Umm then again this is not always good I suppose I would get bored very quickly.

Woud you marry a person far older than you suposing that you are in love with this person?
Ancestor
08-24-2005, 06:17 PM
Yes especially if I were in love with the person because age is only a number and when you love someone age, looks, race, or wealth doesn't matter. Besides I had a Great Uncle who married someone 40 years difference and were very happily married until his death.

 Responcibility of other poeple's lives is above me to take care of. And to have to make a decision about other poeples right to live or not is out of question. I'd never take a decision like this at any circumstance. When I'm asked to make a choise, I always hesitate to make my mind. I'm not God to decied to do so. I'm but a man who try to live and cling to his life as others do. I wont live my life knowing that I'v killed many although for the benefit of others. Few or many, it is not me who created them so I have no right to take their lives at any condition although many may vanish as a consiquence. Nothing is 100% and there is always an alterntive to go to. Better think million times than decide to take the place of the Creator.
Would you respond as I did or take the other alternative to AimuseSage Question?
Ancestor

I believe that everyone as a right to live but if I could save others then I would try to find a way where no one had to die. I could not in good faith decide who should live or die as adilyoussef said I am not God. But it would put me in a most difficult position and one I pray I will never be in.
Would you consider having your own place, a good paying job, no contact with family, and have no friends living in the real world?
adilyoussef
08-24-2005, 08:23 PM
That would drive me crazy. The answer is nooooooo and never. I can't live without friends and family. I grew up in a big family and still live with them and never think of having no contact with them. It's part of my culture and I'm used to it.
Would you leave the poeple that you like and you are used to be with for money?

Yikes! Well, in terms of interrogation, I would try some other means to save those other lives, but, if it came to torturing, I would have to leave that to someone else.

No...I don't think so.I've never even lived away from home!I'm still quite young so I don't really see myself living with lots of flatmates, especially if they were extremely noisy all the time.I enjoy my solitude at home(and I'm an only child so it's like I'm alone alot of times anyway) so I can read and write in quiet.
And to the previous question...I would NEVER take the life of ANY animal(including Homo-sapiens), as I am a strong supporter of animal rights and equality and fair treatment for all who inhabit planet earth!I also would decribe myself as having a "pure vegetarian diet" since I gave up meat
about five years ago(and I'm 18 now) and I feel much healthier and glad that I choose this lifestyle.
PS:As for the other question-yes I have danced in the rain and it was only a few months ago.Late in the night, after walking by a park it started to rain and I danced and twirled in the silver mist and falling drops. It was a joyful experience and I would highly recommend it!I would also consider dancing in the frost, ice and snow if given the chance.:)
And to the previous question...I would NEVER take the life of ANY animal(including Homo-sapiens)
Neither would I. I'm also vegetarian, since birth...no red meat, no fish, no chicken, no seafood. Has anyone ever been to Singapore? The vegetarian food there is delicious...hmmmm vegetarian chicken...(it's made of gluten and absolutely mouth-watering)....yum.

Would you travel through time if you knew you could never return(to your own era)?
adilyoussef

Fasinating. Traveling through time, although it's impossible, has always fasinated me. Well, it would be a good experience to live before death.
Would you go to war if your country is involved in a meaningless stupide one?
Traveling through time, although it's impossible, has always fasinated me.
Always fascinated me, too...very interesting subject. You know, it's not actually *impossible*...well it's not possible with the technology we have right now, but Paul Davies wrote a whole book about time travel from a scientific point of view ("How to Build a Time Machine" - a must-read if you're into popular science) and he believes it's possible (with a worm-hole or other ways...my memory's rusty but anyhow). Though one wouldn't be able to go further back in time than when the time machine was invented, e.g. say time machine (worm-hole sort) is invented in 3000 A.D. In the year 4000 you could go back to 3000, but not 2000 or 2999 (:D). You see, spacetime can be twisted (time is elastic) with a lot of gravity, warped, and bent to form a wormhole etc. Well, I'm pretty bad at explaining, as you can see, but if you read the book Davies (professor) will explain it better. It's worth the read...all about time and time paradoxes and how time-travel could be possible, at least from a theoretical point of view.
Would you go to war if your country is involved in a meaningless stupide one?
Certainly not. I'm against war...borders, nationalities, etc...it's ONE WORLD (we all share the same, communal speck of dust) and we shouldn't distinguish ourselves just because we come from different countries. I'm not saying there are no differences in culture, appearance, etc., but every human has two arms, two legs, two eyes, etc. (or almost every human, I'm not including Guiness-style mutations) and we're all equal and, furthermore, related (http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/genes/dna_detectives/adam_and_eve/index.shtml).
Would you go on a long, pioneering space journey - let's say you can travel more or less the speed of light - if you knew that you would age less than your family and friends back home on earth? And that it was possible that they may be all dead by the time you come back? If you come back? (Balancing factor: you'd get to see what no human has ever seen before, it would be awesome, uh...you maybe get to meet some intelligent aliens? :D)

If everybody thinks the same way as you do, there will be no war at all. We are different but the same as well.

Dificult choice to make. To go for a long trip and see what no human has ever seen is a good experience to live. But the problem is to report it and make people believe you and not take you for a crazy guy and exile. To come back and find no one waiting for you and all dead, the conception of things changed and all what you got used to nomore existed, addaptation will be hard. But it's worth a try.

PBM, would you sacrifice the world for your own elevation to Godhood?
No. Of course, the whole part of achieving "Godhood" does not entirely involve superiority over all living things, but I would seem alone - for once, equal - with my surroundings, which would only consist of myself, and anyone/anything else divine.
Would you learn a talent merely to impress others, even though you would not choose it otherwise?

Why doing things only for others and not for ourselves first. I like entertaining myselfe and be happy with what I have achieved rather than wait for other's complements. No I would not.

No, I would trade nothing for immortality, for I imagine that immortality would seem horrible and lonely, seeing all of your friends and family members born and pass away, and I cannot imagine feeling fatal pain with immortality - in some painful, normally life-threatening situation, and having to withstand the pain. :eek2:

the two persons above me are online, this is really nice! :)
The question is so interesting. I ever wished I could turn back time, and definitely I would have been able to do something that could change the life of my self and my beloved one's. Well, I feel pretty good with my present situation -> so no more regret about the past now. There are many beautiful, unforeseen (un)interesting things ahead that I haven't explored and done yet.
Life itself is to me like a road, and I wanna go straigth ahead toward the end of that road. :)

Ask a question Rosevn please when you finish answering the above one. That what the thread is about.
Go back in time to change one's past and make it better, I think, is the dream of evry living human, with exeptions of course. We make mistakes, sometimes irreparable ones, and we would like to repare them. Going back in the past to do so will be a good idea. But don't you thing that won't affect our future or make no future at all. In this case we won't learn at all and we won't need each other. We always seek help and help each other to solve a past mistake and pass over our experience to one a nothe. Going back to the past will change the world and the way we deal with each other. Addaptation will be hard. I'm used to what I'm and I like my life as it is because it what I was that makes of me what I'm know. To make it better is now that I have to do it not in the past.
Let it go round a little again. Same Q

Would you consider going back in time to change your own past? Since I asked this orignal question that appears to have everyone in a time loop I shall answer it then ank another to see what happens. No I would not even dream of changing my past even though I was a vicitim of violence. What I went through has made me a much stronger person and I would not change who I am today for anything. Hope this will brake the chain. :)

Iagree with you at this go back to the past in time, and then change it, making it better is a dream of many people. I also like your question that
But don't you thing that won't affect our future or make no future at all
In case we want to change our past for a better present or future, so our present and future are surely affected or they are not the same as they are at present. So yes, as you said going back to the past will change the world and the way we are living right now. What passed already passed. If we have an unhappy past, just stand firmly facing it, we can become a stronger person as Ancestor by such unhappy/unlucky experience. And if we make mistakes in the past, lessons learnt afterward are worth, right?!
Like Ancestor, what I experienced have helped me a stronger person. I wanted to go back, mainly because of one of my loved one. Well I miss that great man, and I will miss him for the rest of my life :)
ANd here is my question: Would you believe in FATE? or would you think there is a fate set for every humanbeing?
Aurora Ariel
09-01-2005, 09:00 AM
No...I don't believe in predestination.I believe we create our own fate.Through personal decisions colliding with the events of the world we built our own history everyday.I think it's a mixture of genetic predispositions and environmental factors.I believe in scientific explanations for things and not in the supernatural or fate that is already created or known prior to the physical or mental process.
Would you clone your pet(as in a dog or cat)?
Note:The "clone" would be a carbon copy of little "spot" or "muffins" -genetically identical- but would be a blank canvas when it comes to considering environmental influences, meaning all of those memories and years you spent together with the original would cease to have any meaning with the " new spot or muffins ".The clone would be from scratch(though predisposed due to its genes-and these are still the predominate influences) and may develop surprising personality traits, as a result of changing homes or encountering new or disturbing people, style, climate, food or care ect and not be exactly like the previous pet who you decided to clone when he/she died.
PS:If you don't have a dog or cat you could probably consider cloning your favourite farm animal-pig,horse or sheep, so reply with your answer if you have one of these instead...

Yes...as long as the request was not too extravagant.I think if it was in desperation then I would definitely ask for help.If I was starving or dehydrated or dying in the middle of the desert or the Antartic then I would search around till I came across a stranger who might be so kind as to help me...at least till I could survive by myself. And I think if they were sincere and truely a good person, then they would at least attempt to help me and then send me on my way with the necessary goods.
Would you leave(even if your family or some of your friends didn't) your home, possessions and town if there was a warning or prediction of a natural disaster in the near future?
.....or would you stay?

It depends on how the warning and prediction can be true. For the part of the world I'm living in, there is no such disasters, thanks to God. But I'm not such a fool to know I'm going to die and wait for it. I'll cling ti life like my family and my frinds, and all human beings, will do. Home is created by people. So better leave it and beggin from 0 than vanish with it forever.
Would you accept some hurting comments, but true, made by somebody not close to you about your privet life or react unfrindly?

Depends on how hurting the comments are and to who they're being told to... I mean if they're telling it to someone that i really dislike and who's always minding other people's business then yes, i would be really unfriendly. ;)... my turn:
-Would you stand next to an errupting volcano (in a protective suit of course) just to see what inside the volcano looks like with lava coming out of it?
In such a protective suit and strong safety precautions existed, then sure! That would sound like quite an experience.
Hypothetically, if you stood in a store of some kind, of which, at that time, someone robbed and held everyone hostage, would you run, or take any risks to escape, if given the chance?

That brings me to what extant life is valuable to one? Yes I would. I'm not a hero and I wouldn't play this role in any condition. Some may say thet this is a cowerd decission, but it's the wisest one. I'v passed through many experiences that thought me that my own safety is beyound any heroic act; and if I get killed or badly wounded, no one will take care of me or I'll be forgotten in a short time. Poeple who was dead in taking such alternative are now forgotten leting behind them their femilies and a life worth living.
Would you kill an animal for food?

Yes. I would kill an animal for food. I have killed an animal and eaten it. Many times. But now I just kill for fun.........
Would you wear a protective suit and kill your 'animal food' with your bare hands, if need be? (this Q does not apply to Mr. Mono, of course...)

Would you ever watch a boring show (to you) because you've got nothing better to do? :D

*Decidedly* No. I'm hardly ever bored (especially nowadays!!!) and when there is a time when I don't have anything in particular I feel like doing, then I'll spend it in useless hours browsing the net, or productive ones (which rarely come out of boredom) of writing. Or simply read. But boredom usually comes in the times that one doesn't even feel like reading.
Would you ride a bike down a steep hill if you weren't sure of the condition of its (the bike's, not the hill's) brakes?
