Summary Chapter 27

Tom dreams about treasure that disintegrates in his fingers. He begins to think the events of the day before were a dream too. Huck destroys this hope, though, by bringing it up.

Tom wants to find Injun Joe. They puzzle over the clues—the “number 2” hide out and the white cross. Since there are only two taverns, Tom decides to check these out. One is promising, since a room is kept lock all the time—and a light has been seen there.

Tom believes this is Injun Joe’s hide out. He proposes taking all the keys they can get ahold of and see if they can open the door to the room.
