Welcome ~Ji. There is a wide range of ages on LitNet, so don't worry about that. I'm in my mid-fifties and I'm always amazed to find out who is older when the someone or other 'fesses up. There are also younger people here, some of whom amaze me with their maturity. Maybe I'm easily amazed. :) In any case, welcome to the site. I'm looking forward to reading your posts.

Hi all,

English is not my first language Spanish Is and I am also learning Japanese.
I am an active learner and I always try to improve myself by learning something new every day.
Besides reading and writing I enjoy movies, cartoons and pretty much everything that entertains the mind since for some reason I am unable to find peace inside my head.
My main goal here is to meet a lot of grammar Nazis since I want to improve my writing skills a lot.
I am currently working in my novel (in Spanish) is the story of a person who can manipulate dreams (kind of like the movie inception but not with a complete retarded story)
I am happily married (not)
I am a lawyer (in a different country) working in an administrative position that doesn't require the skill of a lawyer which is good I never wanted to be lawyer however there is always people trying to push your life and trying to live what they couldn't with your life (right mom and dad?)
I am in love of a person (who doesn't love me in return) who is not my wife and not being honest with my wife is killing me.
I guess that sums my life right now.
I will start reading and absorbing everything you present in this forum and will start to make contributions later on.

I will gladly contribute in every way I can.

Thanks

Hello to All:

I began to write when I was 14 and was put on Diary Probation. I had to keep track of everyone I talked to and what was said. It was boring. So I made up friends and conversations about robbing a bank. The Judge I turned in my work weekly never said a word. This was the start of my writing efforts.

As a teenager, I sold Bibles door to door and traveled to many States with a sales crew. This was the beginning of my education. It was also helpful in becoming a proud Atheist.

I went on to earn a BA (Film and TV Production). Then an MA (Playwriting). Then I joined the faculty of the Theater Arts Department and taught for many years.

When I got tired of teaching I formed a Film and TV Production company and did this for too many years.

Whenever I got a block of free time I wrote. I write Stage Plays and Screenplays. The last few years I've been working in Fiction.

I'm an Expat living in Mexico.

I look forward to participating in the forums.

Have a nice writing day.

Hello Zasik.

Welcome. It sounds like you and I have similar styles to life. A day without learning something new is a wasted day. When I was growing up I used to read a dictionary at bedtime and if I didn't learn at least 4 new words, I felt like I'd cheated myself.

I look forward to participating with you. I'm glad you joined the forum.

Have a happy writing day.

Hello everyone,

I'm somewhat older than those whose introductions I have just read. Perhaps too old to even mention....oh what the heck, I am close to 57. I studied literature at university for four years in the second half of the 1970s and been interested in it all my life. I had a few short stories published in the early Eighties. I've edited magazines on science fiction and Bob Dylan and had three books published on Dylan. Just last week my latest book came out and this time it was on Shakespeare, called Shakespeare in Cambridge by Amberley Press. As well as Shakespeare my other interests - some might say obsessions - are the Romantic and Metaphysical poets and Nineteenth Century Russian fiction.

I'm looking forward to exploring the site now..............

Well... Not sure where to start, so I will try the Introductory thread:-) I guess my English is far from the best as I am native Russian, however after almost 10 years in the UK it had improved a lot. I love Literature. I do not remember names of the characters, plots, even names of books I had read quite often, as I consider books to be a food for a brain. Similar to the usual food for stomach. It gives an energy. Good quality food keeps you in a good health, good quality reading keeps your brain in a healthy condition. We would starve without reading with no energy left. I am trying to find my way in professional translation - English to Russian. Strangely enough, the poetry is much easier for me to translate than prose. Another strange thing - I find it confusing when people study literature (this is definitely an age thing), as only with age you start to understand that there are many ways to look at the same thing if to look from different dimensions. That is why Literature is impossible to study. What makes a character to look like a victim when you 17, can look like an abuser when you are 35. Well... Long hello, I suppose, but I do hope to find a lot of interesting topics here. So hi everyone:-)

I could not agree more, but you will find (perhaps understandable) resistance to that truth from many graduate students who are hoping to find a teaching career (and have gone deep into debt in the attempt) by signing on to someone else's orthodoxy. And you may find others who (less forgivably) just don't think free-thinking readers have a voice in the discussion. Who cares? We will say what we have to say and let 'em fuss. I look forward to hearing your thoughts about literature. So welcome. :)

Hey troops. Nice to have you with us. Please post as much of your work as you like. When you do, though, you may want to specify whether you would like critical feedback or are just sharing. Many people want the former (because better us than a potential publisher), and some of the comments can be merciless. If you don't want that, be sure to say so. And if some jerk doesn't get the picture and wallops you, try not to take it too seriously. Sometimes criticism is helpful and sometimes it's just someone trying to sound important. Nice to have you here in any case. :)

Wow! This is the place I've been looking for pretty much all my life!

And so I shall introduce myself...

I am a university student studying game design and development, and I am an enthusiast of stories and storytelling! I for one chase my dreams to my heart's content, and one such dream is to be a major part in fantasy literacy. I know that it sounds crazy to have such a high goal, especially with all the work and commodities I grow to become a leading game designer, but as I said... I don't just look up at the stars... I chase them, and with burning hope and great passion... I become one with the stars, shining brighter than anything to be seen!

I seek those who hide in shadows... who live a tragic life of misery... I keep them beneath my fallen wings, and hold them tight within my embrace...

A direct quote from me, to those who are at the bottom of the sea and who has lost everything... "To live a life without loss; Without loss, there is no living. You are the most lively person I have ever known..."

Hello,
I'm a literature-obsessed writer, I've also worked as a teacher, tutor, mental health worker, etc. I also love playing sports, trekking through the deep woods listening to an audio book (I have about 500 books loaded on my ipods) writing songs, singing, discussing film and music, studying history (especially Roman history, the American Civil War, Plutarch, and my favorite nonfiction writer, Will Durant), science, philosophy, religion, MMA (yes, I do love martial arts too), basketball, soccer.
Favorite writers of drama and fiction: Shakespeare, James Joyce, Hemingway, Thomas Mann, Chekhov, Homer, Cormac McCarthy, Dante, Nabokov, Fitzgerald, Faulkner, Lorrie Moore, Willa Cather, Austen, Virginia Woolf, Isaac Babel, Robert E. Howard (sword and sorcery nerd growing up), Borges, Mailer, DH Lawrence, Evelyn Waugh.
Poets: Shelley, Eliot, Frost, Yeats, Wordsworth, Rilke, Tennyson, Browning.
Critics and essayists: Harold Bloom, Susan Sontag, Gore Vidal, David Denby, Anthony Lane, Pauline Kael, Montaigne, Rob Sheffield (Rolling Stone), Robert Christgau (rock music).
I just love talking literature, music, film, the process of writing, etc. I'm eager to chat with you.

Hi everyone,

I registered today and I would like to say hi. You can call me Pixie. My love with literature began when I was in 6th grade. I remember, we started with this poem by Robert Frost and though I was immature enough not to grasp the beauty of it, I loved it like a child loves snowflakes. And since then whenever I read literature I am filled with this tremendous joy that all the darkness around me diminishes like the ring of an eclipse. Life is short and if you want to life an eternity at a jiffy books are your salvation. In real life I am working with a local television channel as a reporter and presenter. I like to imbibe the beauty of literature in philosophizing the ugliness reality brings with it. My favorite genre is mystery apart from classics. I plan to write a novel someday.

It's a typical night; husband's on the couch, tired from his day in the weather building that barn. the kids are upstairs doing what it is that they do on a weekend night in our rather low key life. My mind, as ever, is ready to fly.

Perhaps you will allow me to ramble a bit?

My mind, or ego, as it may be, at least has an anchor at least these days against flying off into the aery fair blue:rofl:, and so my sanity gets to have a say. The middle ages of my life have brought mixed blessings, one being the knowledge that I can improve some things, but the years of habit are a serious impediment to actually being as effective as I would like to be. Conflict, as always, is a great force in writing for me as it is any writer. I have never written as a earning vocation, but just for a good time, or to help someone. I'm not a person who worships in a building. I think that what's beyond can be found anywhere. I would go to a church, temple, mosque if I was going to hang with like minded people. but I don't usually see my tribe in most of those places and I have stopped looking. "What would Jesus do?' is good enough for me. I spent some time flirting with Jesus, in a way, and that was a trip.

Get the to a nunnery
packed my bags
ready to run away

just you go look see
for yourself
a mind set free

Through word, thought
time & patience
learning breezy views

This is a slice of my perspective.

Let's lift a glass,
dear reader
drink a toast to you,

and another swig for I,
it's more fun this way,
thanks for stopping by.

Anyway...

Hello!

This is a long time coming, but I've decided to be a little more serious with my writing (as maybe some if not most of you are on here). A quick Google search brought me to this pretty cool forum, so here I am. And I'm very excited to meet with you all.

I graduated University last Fall after spending my last semester studying abroad in Italy. I finished with a degree in Film-making (with a focus on Animation) and a minor in Art. I work full time as a Photographer and part time at an arthouse theater as a Projectionist/box office attendant. My true passion however, is Storytelling and Illustrating! Which I understand takes up more personal time than an around the clock busy bee has. Being a fresh graduate is really confusing! I want to do everything all at once, but I feel like I don't have enough lifetimes for them all!

Writing is really therapeutic :) I used to read a lot of YA and Graphic Novels/Manga in my high school years, but I've started to find myself burying myself in more serious conquests. Classics and Contemporaries alike. My list is too long to really name, but if it helps any, I'm a huge Potterhead and i find that most literary buffs I know are divided into saga categories, if you know what I mean. Luls.

Anyway, that's pretty much me right now. Nice to meet you all :)

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom and various Shakespeare works; are a couple of teacher's selections. The Hunger Games series, All Quiet on the Western Front, Watership Down, and I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings are recent summer choices they made.

Hi everyone! I'm a jazz pianist and writer living in NYC. As a writer my main interest is philosophy of art and I am particularly influenced by Jacques Maritain and Etienne Gilson (two 20th-century French philosophers) in that regard. As a reader I pretty much check out everything - to give you some idea, the books I'm in the middle of right now are The Return of Sherlock Holmes by ACD, Man, Economy and State by Murray Rothbard, Collected Poems 1943-2004 by Richard Wilbur, The Complete Saki, Stromata by Clement of Alexandria (3rd century philosopher/theologian), and Life of Christ by Fulton J. Sheen.

For discovering new reading material I am a HUGE fan of the magazine Lapham's Quarterly and recommend that everyone check it out. I also currently subscribe to a journal called Image.

I love movies too (favorites are The Godfather, The Big Lebowski, Biutiful), and obviously music (jazz and lots of other stuff).

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I listen to a lot of podcasts - currently The History of Philosophy (Without Any Gaps), History of Byzantium, British History Podcast, Ancient Egyptian Podcast, 99% Invisible, and occasionally various comedy podcasts.

It is actually nice to see a segment of the world being brought together under this forum, having the commonality of the love for books. I would not want to give a very convoluted introduction for myself as I think it would become monotonous for the forum members. All about myself could be condensed into a few statements;
I am a literature student, an avid reader, I love Victorian novels, Oriental fiction and the modern writers too. I have somewhat developed feminist leanings after reading Woolf and Sylvia Plath. I am a published writer on socio-political affairs in the world around and love discussing contemporary politics coupled with relating it to the past history of events. I am also an active Parliamentary style speaker and have a passion for debating. I love intellectual conversations, thoroughly enjoy them.
I am officially Sophiya Qadeer but am called 'Soph' by the larger segment of my social cirque.
Looking forward to enjoying this forum and a Hi to each one of you from my end. :)

Hello Everyone! My name is Ashly and I am currently reading a great deal of books and thought it would be nice to have somewhere to talk about them. I lived in Germany for 6/1/2 years and am currently back in the states. I have a translation degree from Germany, but have yet to find an opportunity to use my German here in America :)
I have recently started branching out on books that I am reading, as I am needing to re-learn English to an extent (my brain still thinks and writes German). I am currently reading a book called "Coming into the Country" by John McPhee.
I love being out in nature and am very outgoing usually...though meeting people seems to be becoming more difficult these days.
Anyway I am glad to have the opportunity to join in this forum :)

Hello from Australia. I am a Software Test Engineer who strayed from the less mercenary path of academia (East German literature and its relationship to the Staatsicherheit). Literature remains my first and truest love, and, along with travel, is an escape for me. I have an ever expanding group of favourite authors - Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, Evelyn Waugh, The Beats, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Solzhenitsyn, Shakespeare. I have a particular interest in the relationship between Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath. Have recently been trying to become less insular with my reading, am currently reading A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow (which series I am loving, btw).

Always keen to read history as well. And I'm approx 40% through my first novel draft :)

In a hot minute of not understanding how to allow myself to write, I have found myself following generally quiet advice and registered on a forum. So, hello, I do hope that this goes well and helps me in my struggle to grow as a writer and break my restrictive fears. If you find cause to message me, please do, but do not be insulted if I take forever to respond: I am often knowing for replying in my head and not in actuality. Now time for a casual intro:
I am 18, a very incredibly fortunate resident of Calgary, Canada, and I crave experiences I acknowledge that I am afraid to obtain. Also, favourite band? Panic! At the Disco. Currently reading Diana Gabolodans series.
With love and fear, hello.

Hi,
My name is Glenda. I teach World Lit and English II at a small rural Mississippi high school. I also teach journalism and psychology. I have in the past also taught creative writing, Mississippi Literature, and too many courses that were really test prep in disguise. I hope to gain some insight from fellow literature aficionados! I appreciate many genres of literature but I especially enjoy Dystopian novels: Fahrenheit 451, The Giver, Anthem... are a few. A favorite non-fiction book is Elie Wiesel's Night. Powerful! I am currently trying to write a unit on Frank Baum's Life and Adventures of Santa Claus and would welcome comments or suggestions. Although the content may seem inappropriate for 10th grade, I did poll my students with positive feedback. I think they believe the book and unit will be easy! I want it to be fun, but challenging. Not just regurgitating the plot. Focus on theme and cultural reflections. Wish me luck!

I'm a first-year university student studying English at a university in Hungary. I'm originally Hungarian, but I speak three languages, all at the same level. I have been blind since I was born, so I rely on technology for nearly everything I do. I use a laptop with a screen reader for studying and reading :) (A screen reader is a software which acts as a narrator and* describes what is displayed on-screen.)

Ever since being read to as a child, I've enjoyed and valued literature. I'm particularly passionate about English literature, especially
the Romantic poets and Victorian novelists. My favorite authors include Charles Dickens, the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen. I strongly believe that literature is not "just an art", and that literature, like other humanities, social sciences and arts subjects, is just as important as the sciences. English literature is not a "pointless" degree. You can get a job with any degree if you're creative enough!
After finishing high school last year, I was planning to apply to one of England's top universities to study English language and literature, but, in order to get in, I would have needed an A-level (or equivalent) in English literature, whichh I obviously didn't have because I didn't study English literature at school, so I applied to a college in England (not a sixth form, as I was already too old for that) to study A-levels. They offered me a place, but I couldn't start my course in September. (It's a long, complicated and not very pleasant story which I'd rather not share here.) Then I applied for an IB scholarship, but that didn't work out either because their entrance tests weren't accessible. I really didn't want to apply to a university in Hungary, but I had no other choice. I'm now studying at the most prestigious university in the country. I'm enjoying my course a**** lot and am doing very well**** in all my subjects. I'm aiming for a first-class**** degree because I still haven't given up on my plans. I hope to get into Oxford, Cambridge, Durham or Exeter for my MA and PHD.

******* In order to achieve this, however, I need extra help. My literature seminar tutor this semester was a kind, understanding, warm-hearted person, but she had very low expectations. 75% of our class was in Hungarian, which is not something she was supposed to do, not to mention that what we were doing wasn't what I was supposed to be doing in preparation for a master's at a top University, i.e. not exactly what British first-year students study.**** There are a lot of great literature professors at the university, and I'll be able to take their courses next semester, but I still need extra help. I've been trying to get a tutor, but they're all very expensive.
That's my story in a nuthell. I look forward to "meeting" you all.

Hey. I'm an English major (Philosophy minor) at Louisiana State University. My favorite authors are, um, varied...it changes constantly honestly. However my favorite novel has stayedb the same for some years: Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon. My favorite types of books is also a complicated topic--my favorites tend to me 20th century modernist/postmodernist works, but I also have a deep love for English Renaissance literature, especially the works of William Shakespeare and Mary Wroth. I hope to become a professional writer one day.

Das it.

Hi Everyone,

I've not a great deal of time to give to this right now, but I have lurked as a guest on these forums for a few years now. They have been a source of new thought on old, stale texts and a source of ideas for new one that I will have to teach for the first time!

I hope to provide the same service to some other people as I join in with discussion on here.

Newbie here. To the forum, not to literature, ha. Found this site quite by accident; was googling Virginia Woolf (I've always wanted to read her but lacked the guts) and this site popped up. Looked interesting, so I joined.
I enjoy writings of all genres, but particularly Southern gothic. Faulkner, O'Connor, Welty, and Lee are a few of my favorites.
Looking forward to learning new authors, insights, and ideas and hopefully finding a few friends along the way.

Hello everyone. My name is Doug, and as you can see from my ID, playing and studying classical ragtime music is high on my list of favorite pastimes. I also enjoy reading and writing, jogging, and playing with my dogs. I currently teach English composition and introduction to literature at a local community college, so much of my work time is also devoted to writing and reading. I'm in the twilight of my years, and much of my earlier biography would include working overseas. I was in the Peace Corps in Tonga, and then worked for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Malaysia. Other countries I've had the good fortune to work in are Indonesia, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia. During my younger years, I traveled throughout Asia and Europe, led by a curiosity about world cultures and art. Also, I discovered the value of meditation during those years, and have since done my best to keep up meditation practice on a daily basis, and have read many of the contemporary writers who have done so well in explaining Buddhist psychology/philosophy; the list is long, so if anyone is interested, let me know and I'll be happy to give you the names of authors and titles that have made an impact on my life.

As an undergraduate and graduate student, I studied English and psychology, so my approach to literature is often more from the vantage point of character development and change than other literary elements. I'll name drop here just to say that during my university years I had the good fortune to be a student of one of the greatest novelists of the twentieth century, Chinua Achebe, and one of the greatest literary scholars, Cleanth Brooks.
Of course, I count many authors and books among my "favorites." Can anyone who has made a life teaching English not include Shakespeare high on the list? I also admire Henry James's works, especially his short stories, but for longer works, I must say my favorite novelist is FieldingAustenTolstoyDostoevskyDickensEliotBronteB ronteBronteMelvilleHawthorneTwainHardyJoyceLawrenc eWoolfOrwellFaulknerHemingwaySteinbeckSalingerNabo kovBellowGarciaMarquezAchebe... oh, you get the idea.
Favorite single works would have to be Mrs. Dalloway for the novel, The Middle Years for the short story, Anthony and Cleopatra for Elizabethan drama, and Fences/The Piano Lesson for contemporary drama.
I would love to hear any responses from people who have similar literary/psychological interests, as well as a passion for classical and ragtime music.

Hi everyone, I'm an engineering student in Mexico City. I like reading a lot, of course, but I don't write actually, although I'd like to try it someday (when I have something interesting to write).
I usually read crime novels, thrillers, "philosophic novels" (like Milan Kunderas'), chronicles, few fantastic novels, and some sci-fi novels.
I actually study German and Russian languages.
Hmm... Maybe that's all for now :P

Hello. I'm self-employed with a wonky schedule, and so am often unable to attend the bookish events that I would like to. I write, and I am relatively well-informed about the local indie writers, especially the LGBTQ lot. For several months of the year, my reading list is limited to classics and modern literature; the rest of the time, I indulge in a smorgasbord of the written word. Caveat: My tastes in literature are persnickety, and I have no qualms about demanding that the authors reach for the literary stars. (I decided last year that I was too old to finish any book that bored me, for whatever reason. Life is short, etc. etc.)

With proud thanksgiving a mother for her children
England morns across the sea

The Ode is the fourth stanza of “For the Fallen”, a poem written by Laurence Binyon in 1914. The Ode has been recited in ceremonies since 1919, including at the Australian War Memorial’s inauguration in 1929 and at every ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day Ceremony held at the Memorial. These lines should be recited in a respectful manner:

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn in drums thrill: Death august and royal
Signs sorrow up into immortal spheres.
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again:
They sit no more at familiar tables at home;
They have no lot in our labor of the daytime;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
felt as a wellspring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars that are known to the Night.

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain,
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
to the end, to the end, they remain.

Hello, I guess I am the new kid on the block. I am an avid reader having grown up without television, and writing is presumably in my blood with my Mother being a published author. I also like to explore numerous creative outlets including writing songs, photography, and wood working. And finally, during the day I am a Software Architect designing and creating enterprise software generally for Fortune 50 companies including insurance, banking, airlines, pharmaceuticals, and even DHS. I have several writing projects in the works and I am looking forward to interacting with many of you on this site.

Welcome to everyone!

Regarding TV, I wonder if the internet in general or social media technology like Facebook or even this site in particular are its modern replacement. We have simply advanced beyond TV like moving from vinyl records to compact disks or even more recently digital storage in the cloud. It is better to have the opportunity to talk back that TV didn't provide in the past.

Hi,
I am from São Paulo, Brazil. I'm very happy to meet you. I was looking for a site where I could talk to people from numerous countries about cultural themes and that´s how I found LitNet.
Literature has been with me in one form or another during my whole life. I started as a voracious reader, and much later I also studied Literature (MA and BA in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature) and I still do.
I look forward to meeting you on these pages.:smile5:

Hey everyone,
I am completely new to this, and new to forums in general! I know that is quite abnormal nowadays. Anyway, I have just joined as none of my friends have the same interests as me, and I never get to talk about literature without being told to pipe down. I am too socially awkward to go out and join a group so I thought I would try online communication instead!
My name is Sarah, I am 25, I am from Middlesbrough in the UK and I am studying an English degree part time. I am hopefully doing a Masters afterwards. My specific interests are the Gothic and the Romantic and Victorian eras.
It is going to take me a while to navigate around so if anyone can help or point me towards something interesting, that would be great.

As a Creative Writer I Contributed a series of Short Stories to Daily News, a leading National News Paper in Sri Lanka. The Short Story of Dying Jason, about an avenging dead soldier who kept returning to the battle field was particularly well received by the public.

The editors of Daily News appreciated my writing style, creativity and the carefully thought out story line. They encouraged me to produce more, addressing a wider readership. I obliged, and my stories continued to appear in the Creative Writing Column on a regular basis.

Campus Platoon is such another attention-winning Short Story in the series. Action packed, it is about a Second Year University Student who infiltrates a junior batch in the same faculty in order to understand unseen social issues among new arrivals.

Senior Student turned Insider, Chethi Senadheera bumps against something more serious than he originally expected within a junior batch; military intelligence. Plot thickens as spy meets spy and Campus Platoon steps in.

With a more refined approach to Creative Writing, I wrote My Sweetheart, effectively utilizing the literary instrument of Personification. Written in figurative language, it compares the Western European country of Germany to a violent girl with blood on her hands, and the story begins with an introduction to the deadliest conflict in human history: World War II.

The countless atrocities committed by Nazis capture the interest of a present day history student who starts to pursue the origins of the mass scale genocide of Holocaust. He starts to unearth facts about Germany to an extent that he develops an emotional attachment to the Fatherland. The feeling is reinforced when he stumbles upon Deutsche Welle, the International Radio and TV Broadcaster of Germany.

In fact, the whole idea is based on my own real life experience. At the time I authored My Sweetheart I myself was listening to Short Wave Radio Broadcasts from Germany and providing them my feedback in the form of reception reports. It became my favorite hobby and also succeeded in finding its way in to my writings as well.

My most recent short story is "A Tall Guy with Three Holsters" which was shortlisted for the Trilogy Award in Needle-in-the-Hay Short Story Competitions.

Hi, I'm Kristopher Murdock (or Kris), an Apostolic Pentecostal from Fredericktown, Missouri, but it's fine to refer to me by just my username. Jesus is my everything, and I love using drama and music to praise Him and share Him with others.
I found this forum when researching Gaston LeRoux's Phantom of the Opera for a musical I'm adapting from a sequel novel. The research is for the purpose of making sure that when I reference elements set in place by the first story, I'm going by what LeRoux's book says and not by what I've learned from Andrew Lloyd Webber (since his musical is still copyrighted and I'm not affiliated with him or his company).
By the way, I encourage everyone to check out the Scriptures in my signature to learn what God says about Himself and His plan of Salvation. Also, check the Ustream link (also in my signature) to watch service videos anytime from the most powerful and loving church of which I've ever been a member.

Hello everyone,

You can call me George Gordon, but you don't have to call me Lord Byron (from whom I stole the name).

RnR/Kris, I'm always glad to see someone involved in drama and music - I wonder if you might know or be interested in the musical "The Gospel at Colonus?" It just came to mind.

Gerheartsolomon, I love those lines you've posted - very striking.

As for me, I just joined up. I'm a doctoral student in theatre, though I started out as a musician and have a bachelor's degree in music composition. I love to sing, write plays and poetry, and generally behave in rewardingly abnormal ways. My favorite authors are Bill Shakespeare, Sam Beckett, and Joe Goethe; favorite book is a tough choice between Finnegans Wake and Moby-Dick. As for music, Mozart, Wagner, Schoenberg, Mingus, and the Beatles should do.

I've been studying French as a second language, so I have to mention Mallarmé and especially Racine.

Current projects include research into opera, intermedial theatre, and a music-theatre adaptation of Percy and Mary Shelley's work. Looking around here, I've already been introduced to some new authors, and I look forward to trading interests with all of you!

Thanks, YesNo and Dreamwoven!

I hope we'll have plenty of opportunities to talk about Byron - a prolific writer and an eventful life. Even Gertrude Stein had a few things to say about him.

I'll admit that I haven't read the entirety of the Wake from front to back, but I've read most of it by opening it to random sections and continuing for great lengths. It seems appropriate somehow. I've also been aided by Roland McHugh's Annotations to Finnegans Wake, which displays the annotations visually as they correspond to the words' placement on the novel's pages. Of course, no one but Joyce can claim to understand the whole thing.

"The fall (bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonnerronn tuonntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthurnuk!)"

It's a lot of fun.

Hey everyone. I'm absolutely sure my name would be hard to pronounce so I just go by Faust.

The last book I've read is Stick and Rudder - an explanation of the art of flying by Wolfgang Langewiesche. I'm currently a literature student in a far far away country whose educational system had me ended in my current major whereas I always wanted to fly. Enjoying and savoring literature and studying it as a major had been completely different experiences for me and let me tell you the latter is not quite pleasant.

I am about to gradute in June with quite mediocre grades and finally going to have a chance to hopefully land a fullride cadetship with my national flag carrier airline. I have my own pieces and I believe there is more on the way when I finally pin those wings up on my chest and cheat on land with clouds.

This is my first post and I hope it will not go unnoticed. Any contribution to my crippled knowledge of literature is highly appreciated. Feel free to contact me through pm. Nice to meet you all.

The most recent book I've read was Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," if that counts as a whole book on its own, otherwise what I completed before that was Orwell's "1984." I am reading two books on and off right now, one at night and one in the day, Nabokov's "Lolita" and Joyce's "Ulysses," respectively. My grammar is bad, according to my latest poetry professor. I love alliteration for no particular reason. I live in Massachusetts.

Hi everyone, look forward to making some new friends, fresh debate & stimulating conversation. I am known as the Cockney Bard Poet, Author & Philosopher. I have appeared on Radio & TV a few times & more recently on the BBC. Love doing talks & teaching. I have a passion for Shakespeare, moreover the great enigma that is Shakespeare. Love to hear 'To Be or Not to Be' read properly. Many times it is not and pains my ears, heart & soul. My two favourite Sonnets are 144 & 86. For more about me please read www.thecockneybard.com it may well challenge the way you think! Never be ashamed to admit you are wrong as it is the first great step to ascertaining truth!

Hello everyone! I'm Hilda from Jakarta, Indonesia. I'm a sixth semester English Lit student. I'm currently working on my final paper about blak feminism analysis in Maya Angelou's "Still I Rise" poem. Does anybody know whose black feminism theory can I use? I'm totally lost and have no idea. thankssss

Hello everyone !

Hi :) I'm (obviously) new here and excited to get to know this community in a better way.
I'll be posting around so I don't think there's a need to describe myself here. I just hope to find interesting discussion topics and of course, new friends!.
I'm a native spanish speaker and know how hard it can be to find people who speak the language in most forums so don't hesutate to talk to me if you want to :)

Welcome, Anne Elliot. There are some good discussions of Jane Austen here, who given your name I imagine you admire.

I am unfailingly impressed by the number of posters whose first language is not English.

Hi all, brand, spanking, new! :)
Thought I'd drop on in and introduce myself. I'm a kiwi (New Zealander) for those who are unfamiliar with the term 'Kiwi' and try to associate me with the fruit, I may be fruity but I'm not bonkers yet! lol
I love to read, write, draw, create, spend time with my kids - (Sometimes) hey they are teenagers, what's to like? lol
I've got one book published and another on the way, well when I finish the second one, when I say it's on the way it is, though time frame wise, I never said in what year that would be? lol
I don't like winter (Go away winter) I love summer (Bring it on)
Well that's about it for now, much more to say, of course. But I'd like to keep part of me a mystery, ha ha ha

Its the bird, the kiwi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi), not fruit, native to NZ. I am sure you as a NZer know that. But perhaps some readers don't.

Its the bird, the kiwi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwi), not fruit, native to NZ. I am sure you as a NZer know that. But perhaps some readers don't. You get sarcasm right? I'd have thought it came through clearly that I was referring to the fruit known as the kiwi-fruit. Not the bird. To indicate that I'm a bit on the fruity side.....guess my sarcasm slid off and I wasn't as funny as I thought LOL Oh well, nice to meet you to.

Hi everyone.
I hope am posting in the correct thread. I've only recently joined The Literature Network, but I have already read two stories and I am quite thrilled at the quality of members' responses. My only previous experience with similar forums is with a community dedicated to a very specific science fiction universe. Although my field of research in the real world has led me far away from creative writing, my experiences in this sci-fi community has been quite positive, and I look forward to reading, responding and even (when it eventually comes to it) sharing some of my own writing with the community. I hope to learn how to branch out from sci-fi into previously unexplored areas (for me).
Thanks.

Welcome to the site, Welcheren. You'll find no shortage of otherworldly creatures here. :) Actually, LitNetters read a very broad spectrum of literature. I'm big on classics and history, but there is usually something for everyone. I hope you enjoy yourself here. Welcome again.
