Recently retired. I was one of those dreamy kids who lived life through books. And then life got in the way. Most of what I read for 40 years was 'quick and easy.' I'm ready to complete my list of 'must read' books.

I am a long ago English major who decided to begin a summer project of reading the entire works of William Shakespeare and writing about the experience at www.elenalouiserichmond.com. I found my way onto this site because I needed the last lines of King Lear for my blog and was too lazy to go get my Pelican Shakespeare and look them up. I am hoping to have some interesting conversations and much elucidation of texts!

Hello,
I am interested in networking in here, and gathering industry knowledge as I begin my journey through unfolding a novel. Any help, guidance, etc, will be well received, and I will do my best in attempts of repaying any and all favors on the matter at hand. I have always written singularily, solitary, as it is a cathartic means for me to release an overflow of wanton needs that repudiate silence, and failed communication. I have been given advice to join up on a forum for best practices, and critical analysis and feedback. Thanks for having me, wish me luck,
yours digitally,
B J Patrick

Hello. :)

er, I'm 36, and live with my hubby and little boy. I am not really what you would call a writer, I am an artist/illustrator. Apart from illustrating books in the sense of creating a picture to go with the text, I produce/reproduce old manuscripts/documents with illumination and/or calligraphy. A lot of my work involves this type of illustration (so I apologise in advance, I am terrible with the computer and internet, and am much more at home with a quill/pen/brush/pencil :D )

I love the old classics, Dickens etc and I do tend to veer more towards the Victorian writers as opposed to other periods of time. I have tried to read modern lit, but it just doesn't do it for me.

I love anything to do with King Arthur, (makes sense really, living in Cornwall, and am lucky enough to live not that far away from Tintagel), lots of inspiration for me for all my illustrative needs. It pretty much makes sense, that in order to be an illustrator, I do indeed have a big interest in books, and do read a lot ;D

I love watching documentaries (particularly anything to do with history), and I love being outdoors, I go walking quite a lot.

I can't think of anything else to write :S Apart from I am quite shy, and I may not post stacks and stacks, only when passionate on a subject/book ;) I am not one of these people that MUST interact on a daily basis without fail. Hope to have some interesting convos and poss make some interesting friends on here. :)

Hello everyone,

I'm a 20 year-old guy from Portugal who has been reading this forum for a long time and finally decided to join. It's interesting to find out how different people have different interpretations and take different lessons from the same book. That's why I always try to read other perspectives given by other readers here in the forum.

Hello everyone,
I just joined and I'm hoping this will be a good place to start getting some on the things I write more exposure. I'm an artist really. I do color pencil drawings, but when you sit there all alone with yourself creative ideas flow out which can't be denied so you write them down. I like to travel. I love Charlie Chaplin. I have most of his shorts, now all I need are his longs. I like music, Blues, Swing, Rock-A-Billy, early Rock and Roll, and British Invasion Progressive Rock bands. I've written a story about one of them which I hope to share with you soon.

Hello there!

I think this is the third time I've tried to make a user here, but it's the first time that it actually worked...technology and I don't make good friends, sometimes.
I'm in highschool, and sorta-kinda-maybe want to be an English teacher.
Musicals and books are the things that keep me sane :)
Although I HATE the current vampire/werewolf craze, I'm reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Once that's done, I'm going to read Inferno.

Nice to meet you!

Hi everyone,

I'm a medical student in the US and I like to read for pleasure in my spare time. Currently reading "Be Not Content" by william craddock. Memorable recent book: "Feast of Snakes" by Harry Crews.

I joined because for years I've been trying to track down a short story I read in high school, for which I have neither title nor author...we'll see if anyone knows it. Great to meet you all!

Hi, I'm new to this and have absolutely no idea as to how it works.
The actual reason I'm on here is because I was thinking about this book i read as a child and I can't remember the title but I remmeber the general plot of the story. I saw that someone else posted the plot of a story and got the title they were looking for. So I was wonder if you can help me, on where I can post this, or if I can do it right here :)

Thanks,

Hello, I am an avid reader who is tired of finishing a book and not having anyone to talk to about it!

I came to this forum after finishing The Island by Aldous Huxley. Funnily enough, The Island does not have it's own thread under the "Specific Books" category so I still have not satisfied that need.

I usually alternate between reading a classic, contemporary lit, political non-fiction, and literary junk-food. Right now I am reading Dean Koontz's 77 Shadow Street as my junk. It might be the worst book I have read in years! I don't know if I can finish it and I ALWAYS finish the books I start (except Moby Dick is still hanging over my head... but I started it when I was 12 so can you really blame me?!).

My favorite author is Mark Twain. My favorite book is Les Miserables. Until today I would have said my favorite guilty pleasure is Dean Koontz. I have a weakness for Sci-Fi. I love Star Wars and Star Trek, but hate fan fiction. I generally lose patience with any series longer than a trilogy although the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy" is my favorite series ever.

I generally won't even start a series unless the author has finished it lest the author die, the series meanders into obscurity, or I forget the nuances whilst waiting for the next book. For example, my husband tricked me into reading Game of Thrones while we were deployed and now everytime a new one comes out I have to read it by his side asking, "Who was Osha again?" "Where the heck is Arya now?" "Catelyn's a what?!" etc.

Oh and did I mention that I can be a bit long-winded...? :)

Hello everyone ! I'm a little French student ; I just joined because I think this will be a good place to talk about books I've read or not... in English. For I must admit that I have great difficulties talking in such a beautiful language - even if I can't help thinking that that problem is shared by many students there, in France -, and, well, I'm hoping this forum will be a way of talking instead of reading only. Don't hesitate to correct my English, it won't make me crossed. Let it be ! :-)

Do you want to come with me on my adventures? Nice. Don't be afraid if I take you along to your scariest thoughts or to a harrowing nightmare. You see, I like writing stories. I look up to Stephen King, Anne Rice, James Patterson and Dan Brown. I'm in my 30's and a call center agent by profession. otherwise I'm your normal, tired, neurotic, bored employee. I practically halted myself from following my dreams simply because I need to feed myself and pay my bills. I go to work every single night take inquiries over the phone, sometimes kissing up to the boss. For a very long time I denied myself from realizing my dreams or even refused to discuss about it to other people. I guess this is the time even when it means taking a hit or entering uncertainty.

Come in. Enter my world. I would love some company, though.

I am so happy to find a group of like-minded, book-preoccupied folk -- I am currently struggling with Proust -- fending off the (ironic) sleepiness which invariably plagues me every time I attempt one of those endless, rambling sentences -- reading it in English, so am afraid that I'm missing much of the irony -- the white noise that clogs my brain ("...this is an IMPORTANT BOOK, you IDIOT) makes getting through it even tougher -- any insights??

Hello all,

my name is Aaron and I live in southern California in the US. I have always read obsessively but only in the lAst few years, and particularly in the last one, have I begun to read what you might call 'literature'. I also love to write poetry; when in third grade the teacher had us write poems, I was introduced to the most satisfying activity I have yet encountered. When I was thirteen I took up the clarinet and have since played it in symphony orchestras and jazz bands (though never professionally). I play saxophone, piano, and guitar, too, but not nearly as well.

I have problems with mental illness, depression and mixed-state bipolar in particular, but fortunately I am now on medication. Because of my depression (and anxiety) I am only just starting to attend the local junior college (I'm 20), which makes me feel slightly nervous that I am somehow behind in life.

I'm not working right now (though I've recently applied at the library) but would love to be able to pay my way by writing. But that is, of course, not very likely.

So I guess that about sums it up for my life story. I'm unsure of myself and worried about the future, but also potentially excited. Oh, and here are a few of my favorite authors and books:

The Tale of Genji, by Murasaki Shikibu
Ulysses, by James Joyce
Anna Karenina, by Tolstoy
Emma, by Jane Austen
The Brothers Karamazov, by Dostoevsky
Brideshead Revisited, by Evelyn Waugh
and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, by Robert Pirsig

08-26-2012, 01:16 PM
Hello everybody. My name is Debbie and I am a newcomer to the world of literature. I am now and have always been an avid reader of contemporary works (romances, murder-mysteries). All my life, I have read either to be entertained or to become better informed. Thus my reading has been limited to instructional materials, textbooks, romance novels, murder-mysteries and spy novels.

I have been frustrated in my earlier attempts at reading "literature" because it takes me too long to figure out what it is that the author is trying to say. That is, I have to work too hard to "upload" the information. To me, it has always seemed as though some writers write with the intention of making their words difficult to understand.

Anyway, years ago I managed (with lots of help from Asimov) to read a few of Shakespeare's plays and I would now like to broaden my literary horizons in hopes that someday I will be able to understand why the works of Erica Jong are considered literature and why the works of Sidney Sheldon are not........

I hope that you all will help me on my literary journey.

Welcome Debbie & Aaron!

Aaron, I wouldn't be worried about being behind in life. I started college a year later than most people, spent 2 extra years there, started university at the age most people graduate (21). I skipped the first year of my degree course, but still spent 3 years at uni (the middle being a year spent in industry). I graduated at 24 when most people have already started work full time, but I ended up getting a 1st class honours degree which I don't think I would have got if I had taken the traditional route. I think being a little older when you go to college/uni can be beneficial and you tend to work harder as well.

Hello everyone!

I've read on this forum for about a year, when a crazy idea hit me in the middle of the night.... WHY NOT JOIN IT?! :)

My friends call me Thomas. My hobbies include writing short stories and poetry, but I also enjoy playing the piano and violin. I am twenty years old and currently a pre-med student at my local university. My love for literature has shown through clearly in course schedule- I don't know many premeds who will also obtain a degree in literature (I'm double majoring). Aside from being a full-time student I also work two part-time jobs. I am a Pharmaceutical compounder at a local, independently owned pharmacy, and an EMT.

Most recently, my favorite writer would have to Aldous Huxley. During my summer break I read Brave New World, Island, The Doors of Perception, and The Devils of Loudun.

I also enjoy the works of Ray Bradbury (Fahrenheit 451, The Martian Chronicles, and Something Wicked This Way Comes).

The poets I've tackled are William Butler Yeats (his complete collected poetry), William Blake (complete collected poetry), Emily Dickinson (complete collected poetry), Samuel Taylor Coleridge (The Rime of the Ancient Mariner), Ralph Waldo Emerson (Various essays and poems), Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Robert Frost (complete collected poetry), Edna St. Vincent Millay (Complete collected poetry), E.E. Cummings (complete collected poetry), and John Milton's Paradise Lost. I am currently working my way through the complete collected poetry of Pablo Neruda. :)

I'm looking forward to sharing ideas, playful debates and making friends with this community!

I actually just stumbled across this forum tonight while searching for something else on Google, but as always seems to be the case, I could not keep myself from checking it out. I am currently finishing my Masters degree, and oddly enough, the thing that pulled me in was a discussion of Joyce's Ulysses, which is the work to which I am currently dedicating the majority of my time. Hopefully, in the fall, I'll be moving on to a PhD program where I will come to the end of my English degrees, and I can begin teaching. Until then and, most likely, afterward, I'll be spending quite a bit of time with you folks. Glad to be here, and I look forward to some great conversations.

Hi everybody,

I have just viewed what may be the second known picture of Emily Dickinson and started checking out who and what the author/title of the 1950's book citing about the possibility of her being lesbian. I have checked a good many links and still have not been able to ascertain the books title/author. Does anyone have that info? I am a writer and researcher and usually can gather the needed info within a few hours but this one has me stumped! If Emily was gay it just adds to her unique charm and genius. I hope someone has what I am looking for. My curious mind just has to know so I can perhaps obtain the book. Thanks in advance, Kathie46

I am a student taking introduction to American Liturature course. I really am having a hard time grasping some of the concepts of these writings. I am more into the fantasy reading when I do read which is not very often. I have very little extra time on my hands.
I am currently reading The Great Gatsby.

Hi Everyone,
I am a postal worker who loves to read books and poetry. Last week I started taking online classes for poetry and writing. I also dabble in poetry writing, along with short stories. Hoping to gain the confidence to put my work out in the world. I am learning to love exercising, and playing sports and enjoying life.

I am laid up here at Durban with the pain in my left leg. Ever since that confounded lion got hold of me I have been liable to this trouble, and its being rather bad just now makes me limp more than ever. There must be some poison in a lion's teeth, otherwise how is it that when your wounds are healed they break out again, generally, mark you, at the same time of year that you got your mauling? It is a hard thing when one has shot sixty-five lions and more, as I have in the course of my life, that the sixty-sixth should chew your leg like a quid of tobacco. It breaks the routine of the thing, and putting other considerations aside, I am an orderly man and don't like that. This is by the way.

So,, i came to this website to discuss books in preparation for my english class.

my goal is to get a better understanding of literature so that i can become a more articulate writer. i am in 11th grade now, and my writing isnt bad. but its not perfect. my biggest flaw is not being clear enough. i'm good at developing insights/ideas, but the way i put them down on paper is often ambiguous and too confusingly worded.

writing is a very important skill to master. plus i love to analyze literature. its wat i do.
oh and my real name is alexandra

Hello! I'm new here. I joined because I needed a place to go to talk and read about literature. I am currently a college student but I am tired of taking all of these lit electives where nobody actually reads the material or takes discussions seriously. Hopefully my inner lit nerd can roam freely around here! :)

Some of my favorite writers are poets because I am in love with poetry. Sylvia Plath really awakened this passion in me and now I love poets such as Margaret Atwood, Richard Brautigan, Charles Bukowski, Frank O'Hara and much more! As for prose, I am in love with the way Anaïs Nin writes. I'm also kind of going through an Oscar Wilde phase right now, haha. Some more contemporary writers that I like are Haruki Murakami and some older Palahniuk stuff (but not so much his newer writing). My 12th grade English class made me love existential themes in writing so I also have love for Camus and Hesse among many, many others!

Lately I have been making more of an effort to read regularly: at least one book a week. I've really been into short stories lately. Right now I'm reading a short story collection by D.H. Lawrence and I just finished one by F. Scott Fitzgerald. So far, so good!

I write poetry myself, but I also want to get into writing short stories or maybe something even longer. I will probably be posting often in the poetry forum! I can't wait~!

Hello there, I'm a brand new member and very excited about discussing literature!!
I'm studying English language and literature, and as you can understand I read A LOT poetry, prose, theatrical plays and everything of the kind!!
I also write short stories (very amateur, really but I hope I'll get to a higher level :P ) and I start making my first moves to poetry(not very successful moves, indeed !)

As for my favorite writers...uhmmm... they are so many... Oscar Wilde, Charles Dickens, E.A. Poe, Jane Austen, Eugene Ionesco, H. Melville, Leo Tolstoy, Albert Camus, Guy de Maupassant, and many many others!!

That's briefly the literary me!
At the moment I'm reading Ionesco's "Rhinoceros" and I find it very interesting in all perspectives! Any suggestions are welcomed! :-)

I came here as the result of a Google search looking for sources of reflection on how individuals heal from the effects of bleak poverty. I was guided to this source and a wonderful essay which included his quote:

“Numerous forces –hunger, isolation, illness, landlords, police, abuse, neighbors, drugs, criminals, and racism, among many others–exert themselves upon the poor at all times and enclose them, making up a ‘surround of force’ from which, it seems they cannot escape. . .[T]his is what kept the poor from being political and that the absence of politics in their lives was what kept them poor.”
–Earl Shorris

A grandmother three times over, I feel that I am starting from the begining all over again and it is a wonderful feeling!

Good evening everyone! I discovered this wonderful forum while I was looking for some new books to read, and I just thought I had to join cause all of the amazing threads it has. My name is Diego and I'm a 17-year old Costa Rican. I do not remember when was it the first time I actually enjoyed reading, I think it was since my mom gave birth to me and I saw the newsspaper near her hospital bed :yesnod:
It has been a while since I became a vegetarian, also because of the many articles I have read about the positive changes I have now experimented. I love animals, and I'm obsessed with a Song of Ice and Fire (although for me the 2nd and 3rd books are the best so far) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But I read almost everything even the boring books I have to for school. Anyway I'm happy to have discovered this wonderful community... but can someone help me unify my username into one word please? :mad2:

PD: I'm still looking for a good book to buy, I would like it to be vintage, Tolstoy maybe? Is there a thread about this kind of issues

Hello everyone.
Thank you for allowing me the honor of joining this fine forum.
I owe literature a great deal. Having had to live as a young child working throughout regional Australia, I did not have the advantage of attending school. I did attent until I was 8, so spent about 3 years at primary. I loved history books and read what I could.

When in my mid teens I moved to the city and began reading everything I could. I realised my ignorance and books became my school.

I am now 48 years old.

Being one to study basics, I decided the best way to read would be to start at the beginning. So I read the Greeks, the Romans etc and continued through modern times.

Very exciting.

I live in Sydney Australia. I do what I love as my career. Never married. And I am still reading.

Nice to meet you.

I'm a new member. I like reading and discussing with others, but do not have an English or literature degree so my perspectives are less than scholarly. I have few opportunities to do much discussing. I'm a member of a book club in my neighborhood, which helps, but we only meet eight or ten times a year. The other members are all women, so I've been reading a lot of great books that I probably never would have noticed otherwise (e.g. "The Red Tent" and "Still Alice"), but my usual selections wouldn't fit with the group's normal zone. I'm hoping that here I can fill in some of what's missing.

Hello to you all,

This forum seems like a good place to dwell in. :-) Very happy to have found it. Books have always been my greatest passion. They literally saved my life in childhood and helped me later on in life to build a solid and interesting career. Some of my favorite writers are: Stefan Zweig, Gunter Grass, and Dickens.

Hello!
My name is Fanny Rose, I am French but live in Argentina (Buenos Aires), 24 years old.
Each time I travel to France I come back with a suitcase full of books I had left behind at home and new one in French and English (those are a little more difficult to purchase in Argentina, there is less variety than in France).
I am currently recovering from an Austenitis which is making me read every Jane Austen novel - and some sequels! And I was looking forward to having companion readers to comment them, as well as other readings, in those forums.
See you around!

For I write every day, I sketch every day. I am currently in High/Secondary school and next year will be doing my GCSE's. :) I hope I am welcome here even though I am quite young.
My favourite quote is "Imagination Is More Important Than Knowledge" - Albert Einstein. I love to read horror, and particularly like adult horrors such as The Fear Index- if anyone's heard of that? I like The Lovely Bones too, and the movie as well.
I prefer to stay in than go out. :3 And that's me!:)

hi, you guys ^___^

Well. well. well. people here are so interesting, I was tempted to Join this forum. This is my first time joining a forum where I get to share stories I write. I actually don't like anyone reading my works. But someone, somewhere wrote that in order to be a writer, you need a reader. So I'm taking a risk. I don't like anyone criticizing my works because I'm super sensitive about it but I want to improve.

Anyway, to introduce myself, I like to remain unknown. I like walking at night, under the moon, because there's different kind of serenity about it. I like reading in a park, in a library, in my room, anywhere quite as passoble. I take reading a sacred hobby (lol). beside, I don't read when I need concentration. because reading takes my concentration away and it leads me to a better world I prefer. Writing is my passion. I like writing, although I can't say I'm a good writer, I know I'm a writer at heart.

I'm a nature lover, anime fanatic and an avid manga reader. <3 that's all...for now :D

After a life time of Adventure in the Seas and Jungles of South east Asia; a dissolute life of doing only what I was Interested in, of Evading Responsibility, of Never Paying Taxes, I now feel the urge to slow down and write full time. I have vivid memories, coloured by crassly selective filters, of seven years of War in Vietnam, of Wildlife and Wilderness and fragile Human Cultures, all disappearing fast and scarcely lamented by City-bred Locals, all of which I want to get down on paper fast before memory fades.
I have already three collections of short stories and one fat historical novel, that I would welcome comment on, be it mildly encouraging or scathing....but am I in the right place?....is that what you folks do? In a brief trawl through the site I have not seen where such generous souls hang out, nor yet just where I might post one introductory short story?...but my generation is notoriously bad at finding things on web-sites!
Thank you if you have read this far! Captain Blake.

Hi everyone,
I am 28 years old and currently living in Newark, NJ though I originally hail from Bronx, NY. I have moved around a considerae amount since coming to New Jersey, but I like where I am now. I am an avid book reader and people watcher, but as none of my current friends enjoy reading books, I have come here in the hopes of intellectual discussion on literature. As most people who read heavily do, I also believe that I will one day pen my own manuscript worthy of publication, though I as for now I am much more concerned with filling my mind and ample free time with writings of others. Fantasy and science fiction are by far and away my favorite genres, but I enjoy novels of all types and do once in awhile read non-fiction as well, but I find most short stories, even this written by my favorite authors to be unfulfilling. The longer the book the better, if well written, and I love multiple book series ala Harry Potter and Ender's Saga. I hope I have come to the right place to find rewarding discussions and hope that you all will excuse the limits of my vocabulary.

I'm no stranger to forums so hopefully will act slightly more maturely than the average newbie you might get occasionally - I moderate the Official Nintendo Magazine forums so can fully appreciate the hassle that is sometimes caused!

I'm currently a student studying Literature at A2 level and have fond the discussion on this website already very inciteful, and plan to become an integrated part of the community. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I just signed up to the forum today. I'm looking for a place to post some of my fictional writing and get some constructive criticism. I've been writing since I was quite young (I'm 20 now), and I'm now hoping to go to university next year for my English degree with a focus on creative writing. I'm currently just waiting to hear back from the universities that I applied to. I am, at the moment, working full time as a receptionist. I really dislike it, but the pay is good and so are the people, so I've been putting up with it for a year and a half. It's also given me the money that I'll need for schooling and living expenses (I'm hoping to be going to school somewhere NOT in my city).

A few things about me: I'm Canadian. I love reading and writing. I've played soccer since I was young. I currently play on two teams, one competitively and one just for fun. I have an amazing family. I have one sister, older, who recently moved to New York with her husband (they're newly weds). I love to travel, and I am currently planning a trip to Greece--whether or not it'll happen is a completely different story. I also one day want to go to Japan and explore the entire country. I'm fascinated by their culture and history. I also love anime. They have a giant Pokemon store in Osaka that I'm dying to go see!

I'm passionate about writing but I always get frustrated with myself and over critical and end up abandoning my work. What I'm really looking for out of this forum is someone (or multiple someones) that can help push me to actually keep with my writing, even when I get discouraged. I figure if I'm actually going to go into an English department, I need to start working on my focus and drive. So, I decided to turn to the internet. My family and friends are supportive, but it's not quite the same as talking to other people who love writing and reading as well.

I look forward to being a part of all this and to hearing back from some people!

Sometimes that's the problem. They tell you 'Yeh - that's really nice' but you're never sure whether or not they're saying so to avoid hurting your feelings. I'll look forward to reading your work on here and giving you feedback. You can't beat peer reviews.

Exactly right. I want actual critiques not just "That's nice, honey."

By the way, the fact that your picture is of Simon Cowell makes me nervous for you to critique my writing!

hello and here is a bit about me. i am an almost 30 year old man and i have done a lot of different things in my life but these days it is just all about books. i work part time in a very large bookstore on academic nonfiction titles but i have a BA in literature and almost all of my reading has been in fiction. i am most attracted to what is called literary fiction but i enjoy all adult genres including contemporary romance, science fiction and fantasy, horror, crime, or almost anything at all. i love reading literature that attempts to challenge humanity to go further in art than what has been previously possible, or even transcends previous limitations, and thinking about all of the complex issues surrounding these sorts of ambitions. i read very slowly and feel embarrassed that i have not read more but this is a concern i am always trying to address! i am currently lucky to be able to take some time out from the general demands and expectations of life to pursue my interest in reading and i am trying to work my way through "big" books, having just read Joyce's Ulysses and now about a third through Moby Dick. i am a very introverted person so mostly spend my time alone by choice but also appreciate human perspectives other than my own and look forward to discussing books with you all on the forum.

Hello! My name is Sharayah. I'm really here to just broaden my mind, also I'm having troubles with my Final English paper for this semester and need a beginning idea for my topic. It seems to always be the hardest thing about the paper. Aside from that here's a little about me;
I really enjoy drawing of all sorts, but my fingers prefer a paint brush with watercolor. I seldom hunt, but when I do my buck is always bigger then the boys', also I prefer salmon fishing above other sorts of the sport. I love and have coached volleyball and softball. I'm a part-time housekeeper and a full-time student on my way to a Bachelors in Graphic Design. Hopefully by next year I'll have my CNA license and move up in the world a little bit. As long as there's progress there's a life to be lived.

Hello. I am a lit geek. Not many others here in my small town Texas existence--no others actually. Ideas are my favorite entertainment. I like to have them, hear them, argue over them and live the good ones. I haven't had to time to look around the site much, hoping this will be an idea sort of place!

Greetings brethren and sisters in book-loving!

I am a twenty-something recent college grad who is working in office - hope this is temporary and eventually I will save enough for grad school. Though my undergrad training (that is quite shallow) is in social sciences, I have also developed an interest in literature and philosophy gradually. My favorite author is Flannery O'Connor. I also speak Chinese (but cannot write in it well) since I spent a few years there in childhood (those years also made me still infatuated with juvenile anime, my guilty pleasure).

Though I know it may be impolite or demanding to ask for favors on my first day (sorry!), but I encountered the forum when I am seeking help on a passage in the Toni Morrison novel I am reading, Sula. I posted here at http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?72527-Help-me-with-this-passage-by-Toni-Morrison-please! and if y'all have read Toni Morrison or is familiar with her style please help me out!

Thank you all, and I look forward to discuss books and share views/thoughts in this great forum! :)

hello all,

My name is Mitch and right now I am reviving my habits of younger years in reading fiction. Recently read some Kafka, some Joyce, some Wolfe, and currently being made somewhat melancholic by the early chapters of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre: though my mind detects the illuminations in Charlotte's work and continues on.

Favourites from the past were: Kerouac, Kundera, Orwell, Salinger, Tolkien, Defoe, Stevenson,,,. I forget the rest but surprise myself how many things were read before entering non-fiction decades.

ok, best wishes to all,
Mitch

Hello everyone.

My names Alex, and I'm a recently published author. Fear not, this isn't a plug.. but like many of you I can see I'm keen to broaden my horizons and hear other peoples opinions and recommendations!

I'm an avid thriller reader in general with James Patterson probably being my favourite, I've always enjoyed the Alex Cross novels (not sure about Tyler Perry taking over from Morgan Freeman in the new film adaptation...hardly like for like). My book is also a thriller, should you want to know more about that or anything indeed, you know where to find me :)

HI everyone,
So.. I just happened to stumble over this site and I can tell already it's amazing! I mean, a site entirely devoted to Reading and writing - I love it!
My name is Helene, I'm a 25-Year-old high school teacher in Denmark, and the reason I chose the profile name Irving39 is because I'm at this very moment halfway through John Irving's "Last Night in Twisted River" (that book is to die for, btw).

Hello all,
I will probably write more here than I ever would in an autobiography, but I digress. So I guess I'll start of with hobbies. I mostly write then read and spend my time searching up new-to-me classical music all the while. I haven't done much reading in the past little while because of NaNoWriMo, although I am starting to get back into it. I am in my senior year of high-school and dreading its end; then I'll be off to more school that I'll actually have to pay for. Yippee... My favourite authors include Margaret Atwood, David Eddings, Poe, and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Woot, I wrote a lot...

I always imagine hello should be the first word however; it tends not to play into my desire for originality.

What to tell you about me, I've vexed over it for a little while now. I could tell you that I'm twenty four, that I love and am loved and work to live; not live to work. Yet, it falls short of what I'm trying to express.

I could tell you that in my imagination the world is a much more interesting place. That there are things and people so wondrous you'd scarcely believe me, yet I know many have that window into an ideal world. To share the vision is a reason to write is it not?

I could tell you that I search for a perfection I see so often in other peoples writings and the uplifting or crushing words therein that I often over look what I can achieve. To get a sense of emotion and feeling in a story or any form of writing is what I aim for; the perfection I desire. If I can make one person feel the way I intended upon reading something I've put effort into then it would have been worth it.

I could choose now to mention that I struggle with spelling and punctuation, that the written words I chase always feel so far from my grasp that I let the dull voices in the back of my mind convince me I can't have them.

And yet; I have the ability to draw tears or such smiles it over joys me at times to see and hear reactions from people that have read what I've written. I'm always of the opinion that I can't write, that my efforts fall short of the perfection I'm so chasing. Then, I get such comments as to make everything worth the time. I do try though my current efforts remain constrained to short stories, chapters and poems.

I hope in course that I can uplift or thrill those of you on here that have the opportunity to read something I've written. I've already spent time reading others here and I'm eager to do more; it's in those little quirks excellent writing spins from the mediocre and I'm already learning from people here.

So, hello!

I'm here and hoping to share. Getting critique and help from others will be more than welcome.

Thank you for your time in reading this!

Ouro.

My favourite author is George Orwell (you can't beat 1984's prose), my favourite novel is Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo.

The last novel I read was George R. R. Martin's A Clash of Kings and I am currently reading Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John Le Carre.

Hello everyone, I've just joined and am introducing myself in the the good old polite way we Brits have. I'm very excited - and sacred - that my first novel is released in less than two weeks time and I'm already getting a few reviews on Amazon as the Kindle version went up last month before the release of the print version. I suddenly understand what it means to stand metaphorically naked in front of the word and expose your innermost thoughts and your psychological make-up- because that's what you do every time you write something. Anyway, I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and support on here - so hi!

I thought it may be fun to write some stories. But I'm sure they'll be terrible, so I thought maybe some constructive criticism may help improve my efforts.

Hey all, I'm not sure what sort of introduction to give really... but I'll just get to it!

I'm currently in my senior year of highschool, I work at a carwash near Minneapolis (which is, to put lightly, dreadful in the cold months). I try to stay involved in the Minneapolis/St. Paul music scene. I'm a bassist and guitar player with inclination towards everything from Chet Baker to Chet Atkins, The Ramones to A Tribe Called Quest, and just about everything in between. I mostly plan on using the site for getting recommendations on what to read first from new writers I learn of. I'm a pretty big fan of Steinbeck, Tolstoy, Emerson, Bukowski (what can I say, I'm an angsty teenager). Anyways, Hello!

Hello to all

too much to list and hate talking about myself, lots of government service, lots of military, too much education. nearly my entire purpose for the last 10 years has been writing a screenplay/movie, building working props for the movie, etc. i would mention it here but i do not to be in violation of any link rules or seem like i'm promoting it here... suffice to say maybe the ebook is a screenplay for the movie is already out and is mainly about giving some kind of closure for the most determined Coyote and speediest Roadrunner in history... we've had live-action movies adapted from just about every classic cartoon or action heroes in the past (batman, superman, spiderman, transformers, flinstones... you get the picture), but nothing about them... I hope to remedy that. The script is under private review right now by a studio but it is a very long road. I have a website just for the whole project but I do not think I can mention it or the book/movie's title per the rules. that's ok. i would there would be little more irritating than a newby coming on here, promoting their book or whatever and then dissapearing. i know it would irritate me unless it was a thread just for that purpose. but suffice to say i am consumed with this project. ok, other than that...

I like to read of course, classic movies (nightmare alley on right now), build machines, talk. i live one mile from the beach but in the last 10 years i've seen it less than a dozen times. i do live on a boat in a marina in texas, will be moving back to california soon. was married once and do have an adult child, lonely but not enough to do anything about it. always was a loner anyways, even when i was married... i love the philippines, may be moving there someday, have visited there several times.

hope to get to maybe get to know a few of you here and see what the deal is... best of luck to all

Nice to meet you qim. Great avatar. I just finished the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and I'm definitely going to read more Victor Hugo.

My name is Nick and its nice to meet everybody.

I found this forum while researching mental blindness. If you guys aren't familiar with the condition, it means you can't produce any mental images. It afflicts 3% of the population and the only known cause is hypoxia at birth. I was a blue baby and I'm mentally blind. I'm also the only avid reader I know who has this condition. Usually readers are the best visualizers, from the 5% of the population with an eidetic memory, who can read the word tree and count the leaves on it. To me its just a word, but I'm hoping to change that. I'd love to hear from anyone who is mentally blind, has info on it, or just wants to discuss it. Outside of my work in engineering, literature is probably my biggest interest and I want to learn to fully appreciate it.

I enjoy early 20th Century lit, especially the Lost Generation (Fitzgerald/Hemingway/Dos Passos), Depression generation (Bowles/Burroughs), and the WW2 generation (Kerouac/Mailer/Vidal). I also love logically constructed mysteries where you can use the details to figure out what's going on and predict the ending, like Philip K Dick's Gameplayers of Titan and Ray Chandler's Big Sleep. I also enjoy the entire spectrum of sci fi, from the hard (Verne/Clarke/Asimov/Pynchon) to the soft (Wells/Herbert/Dick). In all these genres I love big novels where you watch a group of characters interacting to produce a chain of events, like an evolving system. Dos Passos' Manhattan Transfer and Mailer's Naked and the Dead are good examples. Kerouac's Town and the City is a less organized, more impressionistic version of that.

As a traveling housewife and sometimes architect, I use all new moves to once again confront Harold Bloom's Western Canon. My goal is to finish this 42 page book list...once I thought I could do it in a year...but now I realize that would require reading multiple books simultaneously 24-7. Because I value sleeping, and some of these books pose a formidable challenge, my goal now is to try and finish the list within the next three years. Hopeful? Yes. Impossible? Maybe. Only time will tell. Currently I am working my way through Sam Shepard's Seven Plays...I'm not really the biggest fan. Any Shepard admirers out there?

Hello Dean W and welcome to the forum I read your intro and your goals you want to achieve can't help to feel that you have made your reading to sound much like a chore and it sounds like quite a frantic one ??? but maybe I have misinterperted your post??? anyway welcome to here!!!!!!

Hi Goodman,
I'm somewhat obsessive compulsive so what's not to love about an endless check-off list? No matter what life throws at me, no matter how many times I have to uproot and leave friends and family (my husband is in the military) there's always one constant: the list. It has given my reading a sense of structure and I have come across things I would have never discovered on my own like the Gormenghast trilogy or anything by William D. Howells...I write book reports after each book and post them to my reading blog (1001daysofdreaming.blogspot.com)...so I guess I can see how it sounds like a chore...but it's actually my favorite thing in the world. I obviously read things that are not on the list, recently I've been reading everything by Denis Johnson I can get my hands on....only to find myself wondering why I love his writing? What exactly has drawn me to him? I was kind of blown away by Jesus' Son...I also really like David Foster Wallace's essays...not a super fan of his fiction...I've been working my way through Infinite Jest and it sort of seems like and infinite waste of time. His fiction drips with insecurity, but he was inspired by Johnson, DeLillo (love) and Doctorow (don't love).

I've read all the Philip Roth on the list and in a recent New York Times review he said he was a fan of Johnson's work...I can see why. It's fun to feel like I know these people, that I can relate to what inspires them or that I can see the history they're building on. Basically I love reading. Anything and everything. And the canon gives me a sense of structure. There isn't really a timeline...I just like to read slightly more each year then the previous...last year I think I read 85 or so canon books...it might be hard to beat that. If I say my goal is to finish it within a year....eventually I will get to the year when that is achievable...I might be a super old lady by then though who has saved all the poetry to the end and spends her days sitting on a park bench slowly digesting Ashbery...

Hi, Goodman. Well, sorry, in fact I'm Catalan, I fell so at least. I do so much more than Spanish (no offence for the Spanish people, some of my friends are Spanish). Actually I studied Spanish and catalan language and linguistics, so It's been a long time since I read. Basically I am a reader, and now more than ever. I've been reading five shakespearean dramas (three tragedies and two comedies) in the last months. the last one is Twelfth Night, in original version, although I am helped by a Catalan translation.

The very few things I know about that religious man was he is one of the first writers (he was born in the late eleventh century) in what is considered Spanish literature and maybe (perhaps I'm wrong. Consider I'm remembering notes from ten years ago when it was I finished my studies...), just maybe what you call a dialect is just the proto-romance, the first castilian, that is, the old spahish language. It's not a dialect but one of the first documents of Spanish writing. It may look a weird writing but think about what was the English language like one thousand years ago...Not the same as it is now, graphically, lexically, etc. On those lines, the very first Spanish document is "glosses of Saint Emilianus", by around 1000 BC, from the same monastery Berceo lived, prayed and wrote: San Millán de la Cogolla, La Rioja (a north central province of Spain).

P.S. Catalan is not a Spanish dialect. It's a self-language talked in the north-est of Spain State, with french borderline, which comes from Latin as well as they do Portuguese, French, Italian or the main Castilian.

I'm Bakiryu or Jesse. I'm 20 years old, Cuban, genderqueer, and work as the DIY editor of Rude Girl Magazine (http://rudegirlmag.wordpress.com/)

My hobbies are writing, social justice blogging, DIY crafts and reading. :) My favorite author is Patricia McKillip, although I do have a soft spot for Neil Gaiman and the Iron Man comics.

I have a pretty busy calender, so I might be around as much as I'd like. However, y'all are welcome to talk to me if you want to! :)

Hello everyone. Cliffyboy is my nom de plume, though it's not a million miles from my Christian name. I'm a bit long in the tooth, so to speak, but like to think I have a lively/'livelyish' mind which I intend to keep right up until the bucket is kicked, even though at the time I might look a little pale, a most awful pun and, sadly, more than likely setting my standard.

I tend to be a bit of a traditionalist where poetry and literature generally is concerned, but I would welcome being corrected and educated further, as it were, since obviously very sensitive people exist and write today every bit as they did yesterday. I'm not a lover of 'academic' poetry, I have to say, and regard a lot of that sort of stuff as being contrived, well, from my meagre readings, like this:

'Our hearts alight on the windows of our soul,
Drawing their beats and pulses from the blood of flowing beings,
So who knows what echoes through the ages,
Who knows what echoes down the corridors of time?

I fear the agony of suppressed love.'

For those of you that have not yet fallen asleep, I have favourite poets and writers - corny, I guess - and if I had to choose the works of some, would list them, but I would also love to add to them, and hope that many of you offer some for me to read. One of the joys of great Literature, like the music we love, is that it never tires the soul nor exhausts itself. I love it, really. Biographically, many years' ago now, it, along with music, rescued me. And on the airy internet waves, I sense an implicit desire, even a forlorn wish, that I had been consumed by the materialism of time and place.

So if I was on a desert island and marooned until death, clad, of course, in purple, another appalling pun, which writers would you recommend I'd have there with me, apart from the ones I'd have already chosen?

Hi! I am so new that I can't figure out how to edit my profile lol

I am 24 and although I have always loved reading and writing I have just recently decided to pursue my passion. I graduate with a BA in Bio and BS in neuroscience and I worked in the field for a little over a year. I decided that path wasn't for me and I wrote a novel instead. I decided to self publish it and I am happy that I did. I know trying to find a publisher can be excruciating. I just published it two days ago so I'm still super happy about it. Right now I am browsing sites to figure out the next best move for me to take. I'm excited to find such an interactive site!

I am doing my major right now and keeping in mind the hectic schedule I am to follow, I was in a dilemma but couldn't resist any longer! :biggrin5: Some of the important things about me all should know are that English is not my first language, I talk a lot, and by lot I mean LOT , am a complete foodie :drool5: , I love to love people who give me a reason to do so, my writings are pretty much random and thoughts disorganized, and I adore reading books of all kinds, as long as they seem interesting...oh and I love dropping smileys every now and then :smile5: :blush5:

Hello fellow members,

I'm from Germany and currently in my mid-thirties.
My hobbies (and incidentally my job) revolve around the subjects film & photography, hence a large part of the books I read are of said nature.
But I also like to read drama, thrillers, classics & comedies. One of my favorites, which I only recently took to, is "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Konrad. Right now I am reading a book which is basically a dialogue between Bernie Glassman and Jeff Bridges.

Initially I came to look for a forum like this to pose a question, to be honest. I know it is not seen as polite to open an account just to make one post and disappear. But having peeked into some of the topics and being an avid short story author myself (both in german and english), I can see myself spending a few afternoons here reading and writing.
Also, since I write mainly for the screen, maybe I will be able to bring another perspective to the table.

In any case, I am looking forward to some interesting, ongoing and profound conversations.

Vandelay.

Byronic
03-03-2013, 07:25 PM
Hello everyone.

I am a 21-year-old Irish female bibliophile and I have been in love with literature for most of my life. I spent the past three years doing my undergraduate degree in Law at the University of Cambridge because I am sensible and practical, but in secret I have spent many sleepless nights attempting to write a novel. My dream would be for it to be published (or even finished) some day in the not-too distant future.

I chose the name Byronic because I remember reading a poem of Byron's when I was eleven (Darkness) and being completely entranced by it. Up until then my experience of poetry had been very tepid, dominated by Seamus Heaney's 'Mid-Term Break' or Wordsworth's 'Daffodils'. I realised reading Byron that really great literature has breath, given long-lasting life by the reader. My other early literary loves include 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' and 'Great Expectations', the latter of which was my first proper classic, discovered at the age of eight.

As I cut my literary teeth on fairytales, my favourite writer is (perhaps rather predictably) Angela Carter. I have read A.S. Byatt's Possession thirteen times, at a push I would say that it is probably my favourite book. In terms of poetry (aside from Byron) I stumbled across Akhmatova's 'Requiem' (the Judith Hemschemeyer translations) and have never quite been the same person since. I also admire Modernist literature, especially Virginia Woolf and James Joyce.

The only other important thing to add in terms of my literary taste are the things that I dislike: I think Charlotte Bronte's criticism of Jane Austen is both insightful and pertinent; I find Wordsworth's poetry insipid and I have never been a fan of gritty 20th century authors like Salinger and Steinbeck.

I'm really looking forward to plenty of talking and writing about books and would love to hear from anyone with similar (or startlingly different) literary preferences!

Hey all,

This is Matt, or Proc on here (made up Greek name that I stick to). I am an English Graduate Student right now covering a lot of American Romanticism, but I'd say my major interest is in the older British Literature. My guilty pleasure is that I'm a swim coach and swimmer. I actually get to pay for Grad school through my assistant coaching job, and I try to keep the weight off by swimming a good deal every day. Otherwise I love reading, particularly interested in Poe for right now as I'm working my way through his works, but I move about a lot as one of my classes is a more modern, "Theory of the Essay" course which is also very interesting, regardless of my slight apprehension for modern writings.

I'm excited to be on this forum! I know I will learn a lot and hope to aid as much as I can with anything I know.

Sincerely,
Proc

Hello Every Body Check Out The Wonderful Words Below and Share Your Feedback

The beauty of the heart

The beauty of the heart
is the lasting beauty:
its lips give to drink
of the water of life.
Truly it is the water,
that which pours,
and the one who drinks.
All three become one when

your talisman is shattered.
That oneness you can't know
by reasoning.

Good day to all who venture into this part of the forum; my academic background will prove useless in this forum. To an extent it could prove a hindrance but I shall try to resist any conflict in terms of mind-set, or rather approach to any discussions.
I have always relied on rationale to steer me through the learning process of any subject I might be interested in which for my undergraduate years was mathematics and later on when I overlapped into physics.
Hopefully, I will be as open-minded as is necessary because I have come here to learn but I have some reservations regarding whether it will be a successful foray into a subject [literature] that I’ve often regarded as anathema to reasoned exploration.
I shall endeavour to explain my somewhat heretical position in my first post …

Hello, everyone :)

I'm a 16-year-old girl from Dubrovnik, Croatia. I'm half-American and half-Croatian, so I speak both almost perfectly, but English is my mother tongue. I'm currently a junior at high school and plan to study in the United States, preferably UC Berkeley (fingers crossed!). My main interests are linguistics, history, and, of course, literature.
I love reading and writing, which is basically why I joined this thread. I can't wait to start talking to users who love books as much as I do and hope I learn how to argue and/or discuss properly. My favorite book is currently A Tale of Two Cities (it changes from time to time) and I can't pick a favorite author for the life of me.
As for other media, I am a big fan of the TV shows Doctor Who, Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones. My favorite movies are Dead Poet's Society (predictable, I know), Moonrise Kingdom and The Shawshank Redemption. Music-wise, I listen mostly to rock, the softer, darker kind. Bands like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Doors...I like Lana del Rey and Gotye a lot though.

I look forward to meeting all of you :)

A Tale of Two Cities was the fourth Dickens book I read as a teenager, and I loved it! It is so difficult to pick my favorite Dickens book but Charles Darnay is easily one of my favorite characters of all time!

I'm glad you liked it so much :D It was my...2nd Dickens book, I think. I remember having finished reading Oliver Twist and not being too immpressed, but then my grandmother made me read A Tale of Two Cities and I just fell in love. I agree, Darnay is a great character; him and Dr. Manette are my two favorites.

Hi everyone,

I am 33 years old and i come from this country very far away, where people used to be great writers, all of them, Rousseau, Balzac, Louis Ferdinand Celine, Bob Marley (yes, he is actually born in a city called "Toulouse" and wrote two excellent novels, undercover), but something happened... and now we do not even win the world cup or anything, this place is a mess and our lives just depend on cheese production and weapons exportations. That is France, yeah, come and visit us soon !

Appart from my useless nationality (i am like cancer or bad knees, i have no borders), i like very much writing ! Oh yes i do. I write all kind of things, from mementos to love songs, i also write cereals notice, just for the fun. My great project is to re-write the holy bible, in a more popular version, maybe four or five pages only, with jokes in it and less characters, only Jesus actually, who is my favorite, because of the shoes and i don't know why really, just like Jennifer Lopez, i love her and i don't know why, but with a smaller ***.

Anyway, i take every kind of medication, i love pommel-horse and, in 10 years, i see myself living on royalties of a song i wrote cause i am also playing the guitar, the song is called "Baby, you're gonna love your man" and i hope it will hit the top of the pop soon.

My english is not perfect, and i think this is great, and i don't know what else i could say.
Oh... yes, one last thing :
If i was a fruit, i would be a strawberry, because i don't know many fruits-names in english.

I am gonna read your stories now and i hope i will like and understand it.

Bye now.

*pokes head in* I suppose I'm in the right place for introductions...

Hello! I'm Gervaise, or Gervais, or Katie, whatever you want. The name comes from the really minor character Petit Gervais from Les Miserables, which is one of my favorite books (the E came in the end after a friend pointed out that Gervaise would be feminine, after I had already made an account on another site under the name Gervais.) I'm probably going to be mostly lurking on here, to be honest. 16 year old female, southeastern US, not sure if major will be English or music.

To butt in on the conversation above, I love Tale of Two Cities as well.

Ahhh Hello. Um. Wow, I'm really out of my depth here, aren't I?

My name is Zahilara Bennett, and I'm a university student. Writing has always been my passion and I'm always looking for ways to make my writing better. I'm working on a novel and wish that I can get it published some day. I'm studying English at university as well, because really that's all I'm good at, though I've dabbled a little in physics and calculus as well. I have a passion for languages and want to learn French and Spanish and Russian and a whole bunch of other languages. My poetry sucks but I want to get better with that too.

I like watching tv shows and am obsessed with music; I listen to music for about 94% of my waking hours. I'm rather insane and childish, but can behave myself when forced to.

It's really great to meet you all and hope I figure how to use this site, because I'm kind of a technological dunce.

Wow. There are so many talented people here. Oh well, I guess we all have to start somewhere.
Hello, I am an undergraduate student, about to appear for my second year exams. Literature has always been the comforting place that I keep on revisiting time and again. I feel like there is something magical about curling up with a good book and getting lost in its pages. I talk a lot and love asking questions. I tried studying both science and commerce but finally realised that Literature is the thing from me. I am an Indian, from Calcutta actually but I hope to get into Harvard one day and so here's where my saga begins. I have three years before I can apply and I would really appreciate all the help I can get. Forgive me if I go crazy asking for suggestions and questions, but I can't help it. I just don't want to be ordinary.
Let's see, what next? I LOVE cooking. I can spend hours reading up on recipes and techniques. Literature and food really make up most of my interests. I draw sometimes too, mostly comic characters that I like, like Asterix, Getafix etc. In my spare time, I play first person shooters. I am currently trying to learn Spanish ( I must spend more time on it) and will take up French and German next year. This year I turn 21, a milestone coming up. I love listening to music and I'm also the nocturnal kind.
I also sometimes tend to go on blabbing until some one stops me. :D
I should stop now. I'm looking forward to making new friends and discussing Tennyson, Browning and a whole lot more. :)

Hello, I've been surfing around here for some time and I finally decided to register and try to be part of this awesome community.
Hm... I should say some things about me. Let's see. I'm a 15 years old girl living in Europe, Romania. I like writing more in English that in my mother tongue (it also applies for my reading preferences). My first experience with the English language was in my childhood when I happened to come by some comic books and manga - i was totally fascinated as a child. Later I began to read books and even started to write myself. Although I have a strong interest in literature, the subjects that I study in school are IT, mathematics and natural science. Anyway, i plan to get a major in literature no matter what. ^^
I started with writing fan fiction then I built up some courage and finished a few short stories, I sincerely can't wait to share them and get some opinions.
My favorite author so far is actually Japanese - Asano Atsuko - and I fallen in love with all her works (the thought of learning Japanese only to understand her work better crossed my mind a few times).
I like listening to music, I don't have many preferences when it comes to genre, but I consider Whitney Huston a great voice and I think Hugh Laurie is as good as a musician as he is an actor. ^^
I'm really into tv series like: Game of Thrones, House, Pillars of the Earth, How i met your mother, Big Bang Theory, Sherlock UK, Suits, Prison Break, Shameless US, Skins UK... and many others.
That's all for now... Nice to meet you! ^^
