Hi,

I haven't been here in a long, long time but I got an email this week from this site telling me that someone had commented on a blog that I had commented on. I was checking email from my phone and tried to go see which blog comment prompted that, but my Android was not cooperating as usual, so I wasn't able to get on immediately. Anyway, here I am. I will probably leave some inane posts in General Chat and then be on my way. :)

Hey guys. I'm James, and I enjoy perusing various short story web-sites. I'm in my late 30s and currently living in Hong Kong, though I'll be in the U.S. later in the year. I've recently started my own very small short story site.

Anyway, this seems like a great board...Thanks for having me!

Hello,

I'm a new visitor. I have recently started fiction. I am looking for a source that might provide great literary descriptions/prose of anything-tangible or intangible. Can anyone provide advise or direction.

Hi friends,

My name is Tarun, I am new to this forum. I am 25 years old and will start my masters/graduate study in Aug (Fall 2014) this year. English is not my first language. And while I was preparing for GRE exam I realized that my english is terrible. I realized the importance of reading and writing skills and now I am determined to improve my english skills (reading and writing). I googled and found an awesome thread on this forum(Since I am not allowed to post URLs I am posting thread name "24156-How-to-improve-writing-skills"). I immediately decided that this forum is going to be the place from where I can get reviews and track my progress. :)
I understand that learning english is a lifelong process, the point in life where I'll stop reading and writing my english skill will start deteriorating. Still I have 5 months before I start my college so I want to improve my language and writing skills a bit before I go to college.

So, here is my study plan.
1. I purchased Raymond Murphy's English Grammar in Use Intermediate level. (I completed beginners few years back). And now I am planning to complete at least 4 or 5 chapters daily and will revise the covered chapters on weekends.
2. I'll read editorial pages of economist, nytimes, TheHindu and some other papers and some magazines, and I'll try to read at least 1000-2000 words per day. And this reading will be active reading, I'll read slowly and carefully understanding as much as possible. So that will be like 1hr of reading everyday.
3. I'll try to write at least 4 essays a week and will post them here for review and suggestions. (I can't write daily because of my full time job)
4. I'll also try to read essays posted by other forum members here and will try to read and follow expert reviews on those essays.

Friends, if you find anything wrong with my approach, please please correct it. Also if you can add anything else please add it as well. Its better to get harsh/rude but honest review here than by my professor at college. :)

Hi:). Welcome:)
Your plan is very good. Try to use English wherever you can. Read texts and watch tv or films. However writing 4 essays for a week is very difficult (one will be enough I think).

Do you mean post to a thread? When you're logged in and replying to a post, just hit the post button at the bottom of the reply to post box.

If starting a threw, go all the way to the bottom of a section like, say, Personal Poetry. There you will find a button on the left that says 'submit thread.' Hit that button, put in a title and whatever content you have, then hit 'submit' or 'post.' Hope that helps.

Hello all, as is probably already apparent, I am completely new to this forum. In fact, I'm new to all forums. A friend told me to a few weeks ago how many decent people he had met through these things so I resolved (it still being January at the time) to try something completely new and here we are. I'm a (trainee) lawyer by day but like just about probably everyone else on here, I like to believe that I have a novel or two inside me (or at least a few poems). Anyway, I'm really looking forward to contributing to discussion about an array of literature and hopefully making a few friends in the process. p.s apologies in advance for any I.T mistakes...

Hi Guys! Nice to meet you. I am so excited to find this forum. I love readings, especially novel. Currently, I am reading Jorger Luis Borges's poem (in English, of course). OK, I have to admit that I just start.

To be honest, I found this forum because I need to finish a project to design an informational and educational website to introduce Discussion Forum, then I thought why not Literature? Therefore, I am here.

I will take this "accident" as a opportunity to restart my literature reading because of studying at graduate school that I seldom read outside of the textbooks.

Anyway, I am glad to meet you here!

Hi, I'm Jared.

I'm fairly new to writing stories, I've got a few on my website now and I have some in the works. I have given myself a secret goal of one story published online a week, but we will see how that goes.

I'm here to get to know other writers, share my work and ask for honest feedback. Most people give me the standard "Oh, it's a good story" and leave it at that. So if you can see anything on which I can improve on please let me know. jaredspence.com/stories/

I've been moving words around since i was young. It's served different purposes at different points in my life; it provided what i needed to be ok at times or to start figuring out whatever i was meant to understand. For myself it's more about release and learning than building pretty cabinets. My writing is something that has remained a hyper-personal and private adventure through my life…it's only very recently that the compulsion to share anything i make has begun to speak up…and i always try to listen to my less-decible self. In honesty, it makes me nervous to share…but walking into that feeling has always proved to be a good thing in the end. So…i hope someone enjoys what I make, and i look forward to enjoying yours as well.

Hello Everyone!

What's going on in the literary circles?

My name is Sunay. I am from India. In my flesh-fettered palm I see a long gliding lifeline approaching my wrist which means that I will get to delve deep the mind of literature, inter-related word formations, clubbing ideas together and rejoicing in new sentence presentations and going deeper and deeper into the heart of expressionism.

Besides reading and expressing, I enjoy listening to mmusic, chit-chatting and making friends. I am single too.

Hello everyone! I am so looking forward to joining this website!
I guess I should start off by listing my hobbies. I am a huge bookworm. There's never a moment where you will find me without my nose in a book. I also love to dance (but never in front of anybody). Writing short stories is one of my top hobbies right along with singing. It's like I have an endless amount of ideas for short stories inside my head. Sometimes I can't sleep unless I get all of my ideas down into my journal.
Among all of the books that I own (every book I've ever read I own) I would have to say that The Harry Potter series, The Great Gatsby, Never Let Me Go, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre, The Host, and the Divergent series are my favorites. Honestly though there are so many that I love I can't really choose my favorite.
I'm a very passionate Christian.
Anything else about me is a grey area. I'm either really happy or depressed. I'm starving myself or I can't seem to eat enough. I either sleep for fourteen hours straight or I don't sleep at all. Nothing about me is permanent. I constantly change who I am. I can never keep the same nail polish color. I never stick with the same makeup routine. I've never had a favorite color because I like them all at certain times. I haven't had a boyfriend in four years and I am seriously kiss deprived.
I'm a senior in high school.
I want to be an English teacher for the deaf.
I'm weird and I know it.
That's what makes me special.
I'm weird, and I embrace it.
Peace♥

Hello, all. New to site. Found this site in search. I'm a poet, editing my first collection of poems for publication. I was initially drawn to this site because I have 2 lit questions that have bugged me for years. Now I see there may be more here for me that I thought!

Not ready to share much about me at this time. Suffice to say that my favorite type of literature is biography-history-poetry-fictional international intrigue-scifi-fantasy-mystery. Since I have yet to find that one perfect book that includes all of this, I'll just have to keep reading until I find it! Or maybe after I publish my first poetry collection, I'll just write it.

Oh, to be clear, I was told early in life I had a "gift" for writing (whatever that is!), but had no interest in pursuing a lit career. Ended up in math and science, then in the IT sector, then provided management consulting services for many years. Now semi-retired, playing music, building instruments, doing community service work, and writing.

I'm the author Benjamin Anderson--please check out my thread in introductions.

My favorite books are by Steinbeck. His book Travels With Charley was assigned reading in school around the time I kindled my passion for writing, and it likely inspired my trip across the US at eighteen. I have enjoyed A. Lee Martinez when I need to cool down. In the Company of Ogres was by far his best book, a must-read for fantasy enthusiasts.

My interest are:

Comparative Literature and Mythology
Narrative, specially novels
Studying religious texts from a literatury perspective.
Literary Theory

I studied electrical engineering and currently a masters in humanities with literature focus, online, basically I got tired of self-taught learning, because I felt I didn't have direction, however I'm starting to get a better perspective to learn by my self more effectively and turned into a MOOC junkie =)

I'm also interested in narrative in manga/anime/videogames and teaching.

My current projects are:
-Reading the Bible (jew, catholic, christian and orthodox) from a literary perspective.
-Research on character design based on two factor models of personality for a game script.
-Survive work and school

Not sure, about this format, but.... I am "Tom Hudson", living in Asia, born in NY City, lived my teens on both northern coasts of the US, my late twenties & thirties I spent in Urban city social work in the US, and finally over to the Himalayan Mt.s in the late 1980's on through 1997 ish.... then in the new century , I lived in Colorado, with jaunts back over into the Himalayan Mt.s to keep the fires burning, and now settled back into life in Nepal. I have a wonderful wife who has done it ALL with me hand in hand, and we have seen our four children come and be raised with us as we have lived this adventure, and they are a joy to me as they gleefully carry on in their lives to higher things.
Over the years, a constant in the mix of much activity and work has been a tie and bonding with Literature. Tho the locations and activities have been varied, there has been "those certain boxes" of my "must have with me books" that have been toted all over the world....

So," HI!"

I found you while I was looking up some reference to a Oscar Wilde essay with his ol' Sphinx in it.

So, let's see how "this" works!

A warm hello to you all.

I am a writer of fact-fiction thrillers, conspiracy-based. Insiders know that this genre is more a matter of research than writing in the first place. This summer of 2014 my first novel appears in the US after it was translated from Dutch to US-English.
Time for a little experiment. I expose the genre with the use of keywords. Please respond if you feel attracted by one or another.
Here we go:

Japan, mythology, myth, holy grail, shrine, imperial, suspense, mercenary, jews, shinto, priest, kunaicho, Emperor, relic, regalia, action, sun goddess, Yata no Kagami, 12 tribes of Israel.

That's all.

Best of luck!

This is actually a re-introduction. I originally joined in 2005, but have been very busy with my business and also pursuing first a masters, and now a doctoral degree in medieval history at Fordham. As of this writing I am awaiting approval of my doctoral dissertation proposal, at which point I will be an ABD. Today is my birthday, and I decided to re-visit here after receiving a birthday greeting. It may be an automated greeting, but it did remind me of this forum, which is part of its purpose.
Take care all!

hello people, i am santananda, santa means tranquility or peace, and nanda is "to be happy with" so that is my pali name given by my burmese master in myanmar because i am a theravadist monk for 5 years already. I love learning english through reading books. All most of my time is spent on meditation, i love meditation. Meditation is a kind of mental work- look within not in books but in your mind. I had studied french for 4 years at university, and german in 2 years, unluckily i forget all of them. You know there was a sense of great loss in my heart when i forget french over 10 years i have not used it. Then i made a decision not to learn anything i have found a way for myself : meditation, the more i practice SATI-mindfulness meditation the clearer my mind is getting. I come here just by chance to find something to read during my out-stay of meditation. on 18 june i have a long special retreat again in Myanmar. Hopefully to be accapted as a member here to learn something from You. Thank you! May you be healthy, happy and peaceful always! My motto is "Life is Meditation is Life"

Hi just thought I would say hello and introduce myself, I am new to this site and just warning you I have dyslexia so I apologise in advance for any spelling mistakes but I am working on it :).
I love to write and read, the latter being the activity that I most enjoy, and science which I love, mainly chemistry and biology. Definitely NOT physics.
I am currently in high school and working towards my GCSE's which I am not looking forward too. I love the classics and I am studying Latin and Ancient History.

Hi, all.
I've majored in English-creative writing and been living far away from literature.
While working, suddenly I missed this reading writing thinking community and came back to breathe the musty air of books again...
Starting with "Lycidas" by John Milton, I hope to dive into the world of literature!

Well, I may not be new, but it's quite a while since I have been here. I realised a few weeks ago my life lacked books, not the material one's because my whole house is filled with books, but the reading of them. So I started again and delved right into Shakespeare. Why give myself an easy start huh?

Welcome back... and though an American, I found myself one Summer many years ago in Cambridge England taking a class in Shakespeare. We covered four plays and by far it was A Midsummer Night's Dream that was my favorite. So if I can make a suggestion, you ought to read that one.:)

I am a bookworm from China, but found myself dramatically fell in love with western literature, while no one else of my age seems to be interested in this subject.I long to dwell into the splendid depth of letters and words, though I myself am still quite an English rookie.
I would be responsible for all possible grammar mistakes, since my first language is more than a little different from English>3<.I happily look forward to have thoughtful discussions and friendly interactions>v<!

Adumelial

Hello everyone. I am Adumelial - Adu for short. I came here after realizing that the movies I watch (Netflix) are of either Victorian, British, Naturalism, Romanticism, Medieval - I could probably go on with this list. I am presently watching "The Paradise" by Émile Zola whom I found out is a writer from the Naturalism movement. Another reason I am here is that I notice it is very hard for me to read fiction and find a good author because when having read 25 - 50 pages that I can predict the outcome because of the authors style of writing and/or it seems like something I have read or watched before - nothing I can take in and chew on. I have always wished I had taken a Lit class in college. English and Speech class were my favorites during those years. I always noticed my college peers that were in a Lit class as they had the most interesting books to read.

I am by nature a highly creative person. I love to dream and think of other periods of time people lived in. I like to write creatively but need some inspiration there. I think reading Literature will help me. I used to write poetry in my teens. I can still write and love forums in general.

I reside in the US and I love to travel! I have been to Germany 3x, England 4x, Turkey, Scotland, Italy, Austria. Also many places within our own United States. I still want to travel to France and Italy. My love for Vampire movies and books makes be yearn to roam the Carpathian Mountains and Slavic regions therein.

I hold degrees in Computer Science and another in Landscape Design. I worked tech for a few years then came back to my first profession that of being a domestic goddess. :o)

My hobbies also include Graphic Art - I am a Creator/Developer in two Online Virtual Communities (since 2007). I love cooking. Oh and Gardening both indoors and out has long been a passion of mine. Art is very appealing to me and I collect art stock on my computer in all forms. I also love crafts and have a wide and vast interest and skill set there.

The Literature Network seems like a place I can enjoy and widen my pleasure of learning. Being a professional student is something I could easily become quite easily. I hope I find myself getting lost in some of the reads here. I look forward also to reading the forums as well.

Hello! I'm a 59 year old single mother living with her 22 year old son in semi-rural PA. Indiana boasts the site of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania - at which I graduated with a B.A. in Sociology in December 2013 (I was a late bloomer!). I was born in Maryland, just 8 miles outside of D.C., and spent just over 20 years in Melbourne, Australia (where my son was born) until 2003 (when we settled here in Indiana, PA). Currently I'm unemployed (the job market here is mainly devoted to retail or home help, neither of which I can do) and considering applying for the Masters' Program in English Composition & Literature at IUP. My main interest is social justice (especially poverty).

Hi,

I am an investment banker turned business journalist turned media manager turned tech product manager.

My love for literature and books were sparked by both sets of grandparents and parents and siblings.

I stumbled into the forum as I was investigating how I should get into Shakespeare. I have read Charles and Mary Lamb's versions through school and that's about that. Got hooked into Shakespeare recently as I stumbled (again; sure do lots of stumbling) into the shakespeare uncovered program in YouTube. Amazing stuff.

My idea now is to watch the bbc complete shakespeare with a book for companionship. Have decided on Hamlet as the first and Julius Caesar next for this weekend.

Cheers,
Nagaraj

Hello, everyone! I hope I finally found the place where people I trully respect meet each others!
I am a student of philology. My favourite "activity" is reading and writing. These days I work with Absurd Drama, and I would be rather happy if I found someone to talk about this subject and many others, of course. As I write a seminar work on this topic, I am pretty much absorbed in the matter, and everything I think about is Absurd, theatre, Beckett, Ionesco, Pinter and Genet, history background, power of language; but that is just my way... I am the happiest when I fall in love with a writer's world.
I am also in love with English language... and Russian, and French, and Spanish, and even Japanese lately.
So then, I would appreciate company of people who share my passions.
Thank you! Have a great day!

Good afternoon :) I have recently come across this website. After finding it very interesting, I decided to register and enjoy it. I am obviously interested in literature, and I hope to widen my literature knowledge. My goal is also to understand how other readers think about several subjects, as well as to find out what others think about several pieces that I have enjoyed very much. Even though I am not a native English speaker, I do hope to make myself understood, and to understand others as good as possible. Other than literature, I also enjoy watching anime and movies, reading manga, writing, and corresponding with different people across the world.
I'll be in your care! Nice to meet everyone!

Hello, all. Brand new here. I started my "Will Project" in May: re-reading / reading all of Shakespeare-- in rough order of composition. In the homestretch, now, and most of my people are either sick of hearing me talk Will or can't relate now. (Can't talk "Richard II" or "King John" with most folks.) Looking for comrades and commiserants, online and in person.

Hello back at ya...I'm not a returning member, I never left because I was never here before today. I found this site by accident. So far, I'm intrigued.
I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a literary person, more that I am a person that lives to read and reads to live. I seldom read non-fiction or, heaven forbid, self-help books. I read for pleasure. I read to escape. I read to learn. I read to grow. I have a few requirements of my reading material. First, they must be one of two things: a book by one of my preferred authors, of which there are a growing number, or they must be, because of my retired with few resources status, cheap.
I read mostly on my Kindle, because it's easy to hold, especially in bed, which is a deal breaker for some books, ie: anything from Stephen King. I must admit that many times I miss the feel of the book, the smell of the book, the entire book experience. When that feeling overwhelms me, I go to my bookshelf and satisfy that need. But it's always my Kindle that I return to. (I hate ending a sentence with a preposition, but sometimes any other way of phrasing sounds forced, don't you think?) I have to confess now that I have a guilty pleasure. I hesitate to mention it here, but I have attained an age where I feel I've earned the right to say what I think and what I feel, regardless of what an expedient, proper or socially respectable thought. I surf BookBub. There, I've said it, admitted it, and although I'm ashamed, I will continue to do so. If you've been there yourself, you may understand why.
BookBub provides me with a free and/or very inexpensive, extensive source of material to feed my habit. It has its offerings categorized in a way that allows me to avoid those hideous aforementioned self-help and non-fiction fare, and go instead directly to Thrillers (which I LOVE), Mysteries (which mostly overlap thrillers), and a wonderful category called "Literary". Now, sometimes I'm looking for entertainment, and I head directly to the first two choices, looking for something along the lines of my favs, Lee Child, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Dennis Lehane, John Connolly, and John Sanford and so on ad infinitum. Sometimes I'm in a mood for something heavy, something thought provoking, something I can completely and totally immerse myself in, and at those times I go directly to Literary. Many times I've begun a book from this category by an author I've never heard of before, and I have sent the book back into that great land of badly written, discarded books by the end of the first chapter. But sometimes, oh praise the powers of the pen, sometimes I find that little gem that I would never have otherwise experienced. It's there I found Chris Bohjalian, Michael Koryta and Donna Tartt to name just a few. Perhaps though, these works have cost me more in the long run than just going straight to Amazon, because I fall in love with this new to me author, and must, I say MUST, have every word the object of my lust has ever penned.
And this brings me to the second of my requirements for my reading experience. The book must be well written. By this I mean written as an intelligent person would think, not written merely to get words on a page, but putting those words on that page in a manner that reveals the writer's knowledge of grammar and sentence structure, totally apart from plot, character development or dialogue.
Oh my goodness, why didn't you stop me from my rant many paragraphs ago? If I've bored you silly, I apologize, although I guess if I bored you silly, you would not have read far enough to receive my apology. If I have overstepped the boundaries of "acceptable length of self introduction" please forgive me. Give me another chance before you boot my butt completely off the forum! Thank you so much, please to meet you, and all that other stuff. TTFN

Hi there!

My name is Josué Vargas, I'm 28 and I live in Costa Rica. I make my living as a Network Security Engineer.

In spite of my current career, I've always leaned towards arts (specifically music) and literature. After careful thought I've decided I will make the turn and while I keep doing what I do I will start studying literature as a career, I'm currently evaluating colleges offering distance learning.

I've joined this forum because I want to learn a lot from you; I've always had a natural impulse for writing, yet I'm way behind in my knowledge of literature and would really like to share with people ho can appreciate and criticize a good book.

Thank you, will be reading a lot and learning from you folks!

Hey everyone, it's great to be a part of such an intelligent community. My name is Jay, I'm a 16 year old student, and I study psychology and journalism in my free time.
I joined the Literature Network Forums because I am sure that I will be able to improve my general comprehension of English, as well as broaden my knowledge of the world's greatest literature.
My favourite series of books would have to be that of Game of Thrones, I am absolutely loving reading through these books, and as you may probably have guessed, my favourite author is George R. R. Martin.

I have been a member of different forums before, however many of them lack quality and substance, the majority of which feature low quality members and poor content. I have been told that this site is very different.
So, I hope to learn and contribute equally to these forums, and I hope that you all have a great day. :)

Hi everyone. My name is Jess, and I'm an English Major in my 3rd year of University. I absolutely love analysing literature and finding new interpretations that I may not have thought of before; I always find it really interesting, and I love reading and writing outside of school too. Anime/manga are also one of my favorite types of literature and shows :)

I'm also taking French and German; French because I want to be a French teacher after University, and German because I have a lot of family in Austria and being able to talk to them when they visit, or whenever I visit them would probably be a pretty good idea.

Other than that, I make jewellery in my spare time, record creepypasta (scary stories) readings and volunteer at my local library in my spare time, and I'm starting to get into tutoring. I can't wait to get to know everyone! And drop me a message if you'd like to talk ^_^

Hi , I've just joined.

I became a serious book lover just a few years ago. Then, after some time, I wanted to be around those who share the same interest and googled online communities for books/literature discussion.

I will contribute as much as I could. Later~

I guess it would be polite to introduce myself. I'm Bum, an American, recently retired and living in Taipei, Taiwan. I have been returning to the things that my professional life denied me the time for, especially travel and serious reading. In the meantime I sit at cafés and watch the Far East hustle or wiggle earnestly by.

I actually haunted this site for a few months before posting the other day. I wanted to be a member because of the intelligence and maturity I observed, because people usually lay off each other's politics, and because of the general atmosphere of respect and lack of cyber-bullying here. Thanks to whoever is responsible for that.

Hello there...

I'm from the often-maligned country known as Romania. Besides my native language, I also speak fluently English and, to a lesser degree, Portuguese. Also read in French, but not without a dictionary nearby.

I have an obsession for reading and writing poetry, so that is my main field; unlike most people, I'm not very keen on novels. 1) Shorter prose is better for my attention-span; 2) Many novels are written as a whole, while I am fond for the Fragment, if I may say so; 3) I am and will remain a convinced escapist. As lower middle-class as I am, I can't push aside aesthetics. I'm the kind who can admire an American abstract painting, for instance, and ignore for that moment the ridiculously high auction price of such a simplistic work of art... That doesn't mean I dislike by default a fairly realist painting or a rather straightforward novel, which may have instead a certain flavor or atmosphere. Alright, enough with the pretentious theory...

I'm deeply rooted into the tradition (yes, tradition) of modernism, of the avant-garde, so much of what I read and write belongs to that field. I owe a lot to the French and American early modernists (the gamut from Rimbaud to Whitman) and to avant-garde figures such as Tristan Tzara, who is sadly neglected in Romania (for many reasons)... Dadaism, concrete poetry, conceptual poetry - you name it. I see different kinds of beauty rather than anti-poetry (or anti-art) or plain gimmickry.

Since I live in a city where the few other artists and writers around are unambitious (if not obviously kitsch), off-line and on-line I get often rash in debates with people who throw in the towel in front of books like Tender Buttons (my current obsession) or Finnegans Wake and claim "this is worthless babble" or "these are just... experiments, not good literature". Then I realize that... I'm not thankful enough for having the Internet to meet people with tastes as eccentric as mine! So I move on and resume gardening my all-too-personal tastes. Even on FB, I prefer posting links to stuff I love rather than pointing fingers at all the things that are wrong about the world (there are always too many of them). Can't change the world, but I can at least take care of my corner. And I am either too serious or too relative about things, but that's the way I am.

Hi Yigru, nice to meet a polyglot here. :) I have no clue why you call your country 'oft-maligned' and I'm not so keen about poetry (I'm a novel girl), but I agree wholeheartedly that internet has helped many of us to meet people the likes of whom are not present in our physical location. I totally get that sense of being 'too serious' or 'too relative'. Been accused of the same but like you I'm happy the way I am.

Hi there,
I'm a college freshman, who plans to go into vocal performance, so I can sing classical music for a living and potentially become a college professor for voice with a PhD. I thought of becoming an English major at first, but then I changed my mind. Now, have to wait for my audition with the Conservatory be well-prepared and hope to get in. In the end, I decided to go for a career in music because it's something I work really hard at all the time and feel passionate about when I continue to improve. I'm great at English, and I still love it, but the thought of sitting at a career as an English professor or teacher teaching bratty kids all day bugs me, and I always always procrastinate writing a papers.
I'm a bookworm, when I get the chance to read for fun, and my favorite book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I also love Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I really enjoy gothic literature.

Hello! So this Is all very new to me but I am excited to grow as a writer and writing somewhere, where I can get feedback is something I am truly looking for. I am 25 a stay at home mom of 2 (5 & 3). Because I had kids early I never really gave myself that chance to find what I really wanted to do with the rest of my life other than be a mother. Now that my kids are getting older I have been divulging in things that I truly enjoy and apart from singing, drawing and anything crafty I have found a love for writing. I have been dabbling in short stories and loving it. I live In central Alberta Canada and have my whole life. Nothing much more about me but feel free to ask. Hello!

This is my first time ever being on a forum and definetly my first time posting. I'm not even sure where the start of the forum is and where the end is, but this seems like a fairly friendly community here so I figured I would try it out. I just googled short story forum and found this, but it seems like way more than that. If anyone could teach me some basics I'd appreciate it a lot and if you're looking for opinions on some writing it would be an honor to read someone's material. (Or even just hear a story idea.) Anyways! I'm Brenden and I'm happy to be part of this community!!

I'm Stephanie. Just turned 22 last month. I have a year left in University till I graduate and I am a Front Desk Clerk at a 4 star hotel.

I loved creative writing in high school. Unfortunately, a Spanish major and Psychology minor do not allow my creative juices to flow very much anymore.

Winter break is almost here and I'd like some feedback on a few short stories that I wrote in high school, but have added to since then.

Also, I've never been in a writing forum so I'm looking forward to being a part of this family!

Hello one and all
I am Cabachona, though I prefer to go by Spirit Writer. I tried to register as this, and was nocked back. I look forward to meeting the other Spirit Writer on these forums.
So I am a writer who has been writing, seemingly forever. From as early as the age of five when I thought it was about time I penned my autobiography. I got as far as my birthdate and that a young girl was born to her mother and father. Oh well, writing takes time to progress, shape, form and be created. After half a century later, I am beginning to collect all my writings together and put them into some semblance of order. I suppose it is really time to re-write that autobiography, because, now I am able to write more and add more details.
I forgot to mention the type of writing I do.
I am a lover of Science Fiction - reading it, that is. I have a six part, 2 trilogy novel on the pipeline which i would class as fantasy / historical...
From that I will be weaving in and out "from the beginning....to current times" other stories and novels about the three major characters in my book called Thymeline - The Three Pillars. So there will be some epic sagas from the first of the two trillogies to the last....just before my planned demise at the 100year mark!
Another two of my fiction works is also in the pipeline which are more about my own personal life. I have classed them both as faction and I am hoping they will be a good read. One of them will be completed this year all going well, and the sequel coming out next year.
You will be seeing much more of me in the coming year as I take on the Self challenge of completing my many writing projects and finally gaining that special place "A Published Author".
Merry Christmas

Hey there, everyone! Josh here. I'm a twenty-two-year-old college student who's getting ready to graduate with his bachelor's in Spanish, English, and education. After undergrad, I plan to obtain a Master's in literacy education and go on to work with ESL children and adults. I'm a book and poetry lover. I'm completely enamored of languages. Other than English, I fluently speak Spanish and also study Portuguese, German, and French. As far as theory goes, I fancy myself a new historicist. Does anything really exist in a vacuum? Then again, I recently took a course in postmodernism, so...

At any rate, I'm looking forward to reading these threads!

Greetings Isabella and Olivia. I know little of French symbolists and nothing of the erotic (I wasn't even there), but I welcome you with no less enthusiasm. Make yourselves at home.

Welcome Godfred. I am not one of the administrators, but I'll greet you with so much fanfare that you'll suspect I am. :) I have never been to Ghana, although I lived in Gabon a long time ago. I remember so much beauty and wildness from that part of Africa. Welcome indeed, and please make yourself right at home.

Hello,

My name is Jānis. Recently I got interested in literature much more deeply than just reading books, particularly started to write some short stories I wanted to share with people, which, along with learning from others are my main purposes for registering here. Thank you for this place!

Hello my name is Tory. I have been since middle school and, just recently, have turned 27 years old. Though I don't get to write as often as I would like to anymore, I am making it a point to work it more into my daily life since it helps to bring me peace and joy. Much like my husband of 8 months and my cat, Buddy, who is one year 4 months. They are my "kids" for the time being. I guess the only other thing that you might really find interesting about me is that I am a nurse in pediatric home health care. I look forward to becoming a part of your community!

My current writing "stats" are as follows: I have completed 2 novels (and am in the process of completing approx 2 more). I have written over 300 poems (most of which of them were written before I graduated high school). I am currently starting 2-3 biography and poetry books that i hope to work on for the next few years and perhaps publish one day. My favorite thing to write is poems.

Hello Tory and welcome to the site. Congratulations on your wedding! A good marriage is a treasure for life, and I wish you and your husband al the happiness in the world (Hi to Buddy the cat, too). Make yourself right at home here. People are friendly, but sometimes so busy that you can't wait for them to talk to you--you have to just insert yourself into a discussion. If you have some writing to share, go right ahead and post it. Be aware that people will be direct (but constructive) in their criticism. That's only meant to help, though, and of course you are free not to listen. Welcome again and please enjoy yourself! :)

Well, my name is Jeremy as you can tell by my user name. I'm 32, with a six year old son that I love more then anything in the world. I'm heavy into video games, I host a weekly video game podcast, which I've been doing almost two years now. I've always enjoyed writing, and for a number of years did just for fun. I spent five years writing for Examiner.com, first doing video game reviews and later video game news. After five years I was pretty much burnt out on writing, but here lately I've been starting to get back into it. I enjoy plenty of movies, but with my work, school, girlfriend and podcast, I don't have much time to watch movies or TV shows. My favorite books include: The Road, No Country for Old Men, First Blood, American Psycho, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and The Taking of Pelham 123.

Welcome to the site, Jeremy. That's an interesting collection of favorite books. We discuss the ones by Cormac McCarthy on various threads here, but I haven't thought about The Taking of Pelham 123 since I saw the movie back in the 70s (I think). Welcome in any case. First of all, thanks Pensive for creating this thread! I am so pleased to have found the network and by reading about other fellow artists, I feel a lot closer within this online community. Having been raised in no place other than Shakespeare's Home town (Stratford upon Avon), I am a big fan of his work. As a result, I have started a small project which I will need your help for (if that's OK).
I am a business undergraduate at the University of Birmingham (UK) and am currently looking into the usage of social media as an artist. As many of you may be involved in writing prose or poetry (or perhaps even both), I was wondering whether it would be possible to quickly fill out my online survey? Depending on the results I receive, you will hopefully benefit from it in the future (as I will turn it into a long-term project). It does not take long and I can guarantee that your information remains confidential!

This is the link to my survey: https://www.quicksurveys.com/s/Tg43FrD

Thanks for all your help! If you have any further queries, feel free to send me a private message.

Hello everyone, this is my first time using this site, but I am looking forward for the continue use and making contributions to this site. In the mean time I will like to know if someone have worked in projects including the Ethan Frome novel. I am currently working in putting a research paper on this subject and need assistance with this subject!!!

I am a semi-retired 82 year old Accountant. I have been advised by my best friends that my age has just surpassed my IQ. I was brought up in New York City and have a degree in Accounting from NYU (sometimes read as New York Unemployed). Also attended Law School. Currently reside in Las Vegas. My interest in Literature surpasses my interest in Accounting and Taxes. One is my living--the other is my passion.

Hey there, I'm Mathias. I live in Brazil and study History. I have recently started reading literature again, as I have just now gotten used to the reading workload I have. That's why I joined, so I could get ideas for new books to read and discuss the ones I've read. I'm 19 and looking forward to learning from you guys! :)

You're welcome. It was called The War of the End of the World, recommended to me by another LitNetter and well worth reading. If you would ever like to discuss Canudos or history/historical novels in general, be sure to check out this thread: http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?81055-History-Histories-and-Historical-Novels

In any case, enjoy the site!

I want - more than anything in the whole world - to meet one truly free person. An already-evolved, unenslaved, whole being who needn't be taught or awakened to Self. One so fully awake In and To this world - ready and Able to go places neither of us have gone. I'm so sooo sick of the Mushy Middle: those hopelessly struggling to get out or somehow quietly make it through. I want to run away with dead authors, characters from books, and the romantic versions I have of a few select badasses.

Although I'm not a student of literature, but I have my interest in literary fields. I have joined the family of www.online-literature.com/ few minutes back. My main intention to join here is to increase my knowledge from the vast literary treasure of this website and also share views on the fields of discussions with learned members. Basically I'm a shipping professional having long working experience in the field of international shipping business. First of all I have to get myself familiar with the rules and the features of this forum to make myself fit for posting/sharing views. Hope within few days I shall be able to gain necessary experience to participate in the forum comfortably.

Hey everyone! My name is Bart (as the username sort of gives away). I'm a Dutch student of English Language & Culture, 24 currently (getting old). Considering my degree, I have to read books as you can probably imagine, and since my interest in literature is ever-increasing, I thought I'd join this forum. :) Hobbies include, besides reading of course: tennis, video games, playing the piano, singing and beer (especially Belgian beer). Some of my favourite books include The Catcher in the Rye, The Raw Shark Texts and Nooit Meer Slapen (a Dutch novel).

Looking forward to posting and reading on this forum!

If I manage to bring class to anything that would be a first in my life.
