Today, I really need to know if the cup is half-empty or half-full. The problem is -- what if it's only 1/4 full? Or an 1/8? Is that the same as half-full? Is point really as long as there is something in the glass it isn't empty?
Bongitybongbong

There's no point to worry about the amount unless it randomly goes down.
"Is the cup half full or half empty. I just want to know who's been drinking my beer."- My uncle is a genius.

Yes, Scher showed a sample from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's famous work, for good reason, or "Kubla Khan." I find it a true work of poetic art, though many others, yet perhaps no one on the forum, would disagree.
To answer your second question, yes, Coleridge had a chronic addiction to laudanum, a derivative of opium, and wrote "Kubla Khan" after waking from a drug-induced dream, until a visitor interrupted him, and Coleridge left the epic poem forever unfinished.
The whole text:
Kubla Khan
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover!
A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon-lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced:
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail:
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean:
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war!
The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice!
A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me
That with music loud and long
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!

The fight for Naboo was a fierce battle with the clones aiding the Gungan forces against the CIS. A squad of droidicas attcked with a barage of blaster fire that cut through their enemies like a hot knife in butter. With the clones stretched to the limit from the assault, super battle droids made a bold move to take the over the last strategic point the clones and Gungans fortified. The Gungans made a final assault against the droidicas because they were capping all of their allies. The attack, led by Jar Jar Binks, soured quickly when a rocket took out Jar Jar's right flank. The droids capitalized in a mechanized massacre. With the Gungan's weakening and the clones struggling, the droids took the hill. As unfortunate as it may seem the battle's turning point took place at that point. Massive explosives hidden under the hill went off, in turn taking out most of the left flank of the droids. With a rejuvenated spirit after the explosion, the remaining Gungan's struck the droids with all of the water balls that were left....
Are the droids finished or will the Clone army collapse?

Today is not my day...
I am very distracted and absent minded (OK, fine... old age is taking its toll on me!)
Had to go to the supermarket twice because I forgot some of the things I needed to buy...
And I realised I had left my car unlocked
And forgotten to pay for the parking ticket as well
Very luckily didn't get caught as the attendants are very eager to put the tire clumps (and charge £60 to remove them).
Since my mental capacity was not very promising, I decicated the day to 'menial' tasks: washed the curtains;dried and ironed them and cleaned the windows as well! (very becoming considering my 'pleb' origins)
Instead of finishing C & P, I think I will read some silly books as well today.

Oddly, the last time this occurred, about one or two months ago, I finished my play, which, if I understand, Mercury's retrograde often affects any artist's creativity.

THE TOP 10 LESSONS I LEARNED FROM CHARLIE BROWN
For 50 years the daily comic strip "Peanuts" entertained millions of readers. Every day, the adventures of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and the whole gang provided many laugh-out-loud moments while at the same time offering a daily inspiration and lessons on life.
With the death of "Peanuts" creator Charles Schulz, I reflect on how much I enjoyed sharing the adventures of the "Peanuts" gang and I remember the many lessons they taught me...
1. It's okay to be afraid... just don't let your fears control you. Charlie Brown often sat in bed and spoke of his fears, but no matter how scared he was, he always did the things he wanted to do.
2. Persistence wins out. Charlie Brown often lost, failed at much, but he never gave up. Even though he knew Lucy was going to pull the football away before he could kick it.... Even though he knew the tree was going to eat his kite... Even though he knew his team would lose the ball game, he kept on trying.
3. It's what you think of yourself that matters most. Linus carried a security blanket for years and his friends laughed at him. They also laughed at him because he believed in the 'Great Pumpkin.' Pigpen was a walking cloud of dust and dirt and was often regarded unkindly. Both characters, however, were always proud of themselves and believed they were as good as anybody else -- and they were right.
4. Sometimes you need to talk. One thing the 'Peanuts' gang understood was the importance of talking things out. Whether leaning up against Schroeder's piano or atop the brick wall, they always had someplace to discuss what was of concern to them.
5. Sometimes you need to listen. Even crabby, self-indulged Lucy knew the importance of listening. She started the famous 'Psychiatry Booth' where any and all could come and be heard.
6. Do what you love to do. Through all their adventures, Schroeder remained constant in his appreciation of Beethoven and his love of playing the piano. He loved to play piano and that's what he did, regardless of the circumstances. Charlie Brown flew his kite, played baseball and football, not just to win (he knew he wouldn't), but because he loved to do those things.
7. It's important to have friends that care. The 'Peanuts' gang was made up of individual characters, each with their own foibles and talents, but through it all they were always there for each other.
8. Big dreams lead to big things! Snoopy was the biggest dreamer of them all, but his wild imagination often led to even wilder, more fantastic adventures in real life. Snoopy knew that you must have a big dream if you are going to lead a big life.
9. Action creates reality. As Charlie Brown was reminded time and again after prodding from Linus: it takes action to bring about change. Though he often failed, Chuck took action quite regularly... and every now and again things would go his way.
10. Laugh every day! While the kids themselves may not have seen the humor in the things they did, Schulz made sure that *we* did. Life is only as serious or as humorous as YOU make it... Lighten up. Go play softball. Fly a kite. Dance with your dog. Smile... it makes people wonder what you're up to.

random thoughts abound.
My perceptors have missed the steady stream of airborne electrons intercepted regularly from the mothership, and now all that is playing in the screen of my mind is static - random bits of code and information jumbled together as complete nonsense.
Maybe if i concentrated i could peer through the static and determine the nature of the picture, the message being sent.
It dawns on me that there is no message, no point from the mothership. Now there is nothing but silence, and for the first time in my life, my thoughts are random, not controlled by the mothership, not beamed directly into my head.
Not beamed directly into my head from the mothership, the television, the radio, the music abounding from the bass-soaked gangsta in the car next to mine. No billboards no signs nothing is now being beamed directly into my head, and now there is static - nothing but static - the remains of all those messages, reverberating in my now empty cerebrum.
A new-found sense of hope springs from within as I realise my thoughts can be my own, that this noise pollution, this destruction of intellectual property and production, can be fought off.
What is this? Now I can THINK?
I shy away from the possibility.
I shrink from the chance.
I retract from the very idea.
And simultaneously, I embrace the newfound freedom, the cutting of this intellectual umbilical chord, this freedom from the mothership.
Maybe without all this noise, I can have an original thought.
Maybe...
Maybe...
but (the TV Says) I doubt it.
I doubt it.

Maybe not so random a thought, given the circumstances, but here it is:
My chum in Bath, having finally accounted for all his London friends and family, sent me an e-mail, and in it he said, "I wish you were here now, strange as that sounds." I knew exactly what he meant because I wanted to be there. I wanted to be there for my friends, to give hugs, stay up late, maybe get drunk, and talk all night, until we had pushed the shadows way into the corners and could think and act and feel like ourselves again, until we felt the crisis pass.
In fact, I wish I was there right now.

Btw, do you guys make popcorn just by putting the seeds in a covered pan with olive oil (I guess other kind of oil might work)? or do the microwave thingy?

It occurred to me that a random thought might not just be random at all. What makes it random? And how does one decide which thought to share? I have several thoughts in my mind. This is one of them. Another one involves the music I listen to, and so on and on and on.
The mind is brilliant! :D

deja vu anyone?
anyways... yeah yeah yeah we all know thoughts happen for reasons and blah blah blah our subconcious and yawn yawn yawn nothing comes from nowhere and blink blink blink is anything truly random....
ayup.
some minds are brilliant. I wouldn't quite make the generalization that the mind is brilliant... especially after meeting my (now ex)coworkers at walmart.
:- )
anyways, read the whole thread bud, all 140 pages of it and i think that exact thought has been stated at least twice already. :- )
Welcome to the forum, by the way, and don't let any biting remarks or mean-seeming comments detur you from the good things of this forum.

Actually, the whole random thought blurb of mine was rhetorical. It was to illustrate the point that the mind is brilliant. Even your former co-workers have brilliant minds, because for me, the mind is a brilliant tool. But by being a tool, it means you have to learn how to use it. Some are more adept at it, exploring the depths of the mind. While other have more difficulty with it, not quite grasping the brilliance they have. And few fully grasp the brilliance of the mind.
And I don't doubt the thought has been stated more than once, it is after all, a random thought. ;)
Thanks for the welcome, oh cheerful one. ;)

Our brains are all different. Some are smarter than others - not just because they learned how to use this tool better - but because they were born with a better tool. I work at a developmental center for the mentally disabled. I see this not just at work, but everywhere I go. Some people just don't have the capacity of other people. -And I'm not talking just about people with mental retardation. There are whole ranges of intelligence. While it is possible to learn how to use your tool better and improve upon yourself, and increase your capacity, Igor's not gonna become an evil genius. We were only created equally in a moral sense. We were not created equally in a physical or mental sense.

I always but a high regard on Howard Gardner's theory of seven intelligences:
1. Linguistic intelligence (as in a poet);
2. Logical-mathematical intelligence (as in a scientist);
3. Musical intelligence (as in a composer);
4. Spatial intelligence (as in a sculptor or airplane pilot);
5. Bodily kinesthetic intelligence (as in an athlete or dancer);
6. Interpersonal intelligence (as in a salesman or teacher);
7. Intrapersonal intelligence (exhibited by individuals with accurate views of themselves).
And, apparently recently, another type someone added (maybe Gardner): spiritual intelligence.

But don't you see the brilliance of the brain itself? Its inner workings, sure some minds are smarter then others, but they are all brilliant in their function.
It's just like a knife, to use an example, the knife is a tool, some are sharper than others, but the basic tool is the same, and is what it is, a knife.
Hence the expression 'not the sharpest knife in the block' :p

Yeah yeah, i see the brain has a genius design, how its a remarkable tool...-a tool that can break but what tool can't - but to say that the brain in general is genius gives off the wrong impression, i think.
I also think there are different kinds of brain... like I learn languages easily but I can barely add or multiply numbers while some people dont really have the skill for languages for example but are living calculators... it's a question of attitudes and even of tastes, of course you can always learn something that is not the strongest point of your brain, but you dont have a talent for it... Some people are skilled in many fields, for example both scientific and humanistic, and that's good for them...

Do you ever feel like you can't stand your best friend? Well I have this friend, she's the one I go out most often with, but more and more often I feel it's just cos we have noone else as other friends we have in common have less time to meet us...and we are almost the only ones we know who dont have a boyfriend etc... And sometimes it feels it's the only reason why we stick together cos we disagree on so many things...we have different tastes, different viewpoints on many things... And she keeps judging and complaining, about every little thing (her mum is the same, she has a polemic for everything) and since her family is very strict, my behaviours are seen as a libertine's... My choices are always weird to her, when I was in a long-distance relationship she kept telling me to quit it cos it'd have no future, and the whole thing was hard enough for me, the support of friends would have been nice... I mean, I never feel accepted... Ok sometimes it's ok, we have a good time as friends, but then she just starts complaining about something in general...I hate the world 'absurd' cos she used to refer to such a wide range of things and facts... Last night she saw my desktop picture and had to make a weird comment about it, hearing it you would have thought I had some terribly immoral pic... it was just a damn pic dedicated to my damn favourite band, on my own damn laptop!
I have another friend instead, we meet less often cos she has many different friends, and a boyfriend...but we always understand each other, agree on many things, and she's always always supported me, I could always rely on her even in the relationship thing, she never even judged how crazy it all was, and she always tries to find some time for me if she can...
For tomorrow, I have an invitation from another 'friend'. She was in our group of friends at school, then found a job and with it a more interesting and varied life with different friends, and then a boyfriend which caused her to show up with me like 5 times in one year and a half... Now she seems to call me only when there's noone she can think of calling, in a way I dont mind cos that's often my destiny and anyway it's a chance to meet... but I wonder if we still have anything to tell each other, any common topic to talk about... Anyway I'll probably go, it's someone different to me...and my friend I mentioned first won't be there so I'll feel somehow more free to be totally mycrazyself...
Sorry, just felt like venting some random thoughts of these days...
No need to apologize for ranting, Koa; it sounds like quite a situation you have yourself in with your friend. Often, I have found, spending too much time with anyone, including boyfriends/girlfriends, you grow tired of each other, annoyed and short-tempered. Spending much time with someone very critical and judgmental, I can certainly see why one could get irritated; I would (and have), too. Hopefully, if you do not tell your friend, maybe she will realize her faults through other means (possibly other people), or discovering that you seldom want to spend time with her.
Best of luck! ;)
My random thought of the day: I feel so reminiscent today of reading Arthur Schopenhauer, who wrote of boredom seeming one of the worst (and main) evils of the world. :p
Yeah thanks mono... I agree, I often think I'd never be able to handle a boyfriend if I had to see him everyday as most couples seem to die if they don't, that was a good side of the long-distance stuff, though it was too much on the opposite extreme.
So it's sometimes a mess to be only with that one friend, we sometimes look at each other and know that we are going out together only cos really there's noone, as we have nothing to tell each other. In a way it's nice to get to know people so well, but when they get so bitter or when I feel limited because of her, it's a mess... We even learnt not to talk of politics cos we're likely to end up arguing...
Anyway, today I had a nice day with the third friend I mentioned there.
And here goes my random thought: I like to go to the swimming pool. I hate to sunbathe but it's lovely to go in the water and just stay there... I used to love it as a kid too, but then in my darkest phase I even stopped liking the swimming pool cos of the sun it involved, and I didnt even enjoy the water...last summer I never even went once. But this year I like it again :D Me fish :D
(note: here in the summer it's the most common thing to try and go to a swimming pool as often as possible, cos we have no sea right here but the heat can get unbearable).
Random thought number 2: the forum appears to have been rather empty today...

Not-so-random thought: I try to have as much respect as possible for my fellow readers and bookworms, but this Harry Potter chaos seems a little out of control. Prudently, I avoided all bookstores and libraries on Saturday (the day of its release), but thought to take the risk yesterday - yikes! The rudeness of some people! Very wisely, the bookstore administrators organized the newest Potter books near the cashier registers, but this did not prevent such turmoil from numerous kids running and screaming, concerned mothers and fathers purposely cutting through long lines (and arguing over the fact), and readers of all ages getting in ridiculously heated debates of the movies versus the books.
Dear Harry Potter fans, what you purchase consists of a book (or film), Harry Potter and his friends consist of fiction, and, most of all, the first copy printers made no different from the last copy - there should exist no race, and your bickering, or your child's bickering (though, I think, Rowling intended the book for children, as Harry Potter remains in the 'Children's Literature' section) will not allow you to purchase the book quicker.
[/end rant]
LOL mono, I can imagine the scene at the bookshop!

Random thought of the day: why did I become addicted to shopping? I have enough clothes to survive for like 3 weeks without washing anything but I wouldnt run out of clean stuff... Go figure. And yet I bought a tshirt I'd probably wear twice cos I dont look that good in such narrow clothes  But it was so cheap... That qualifies me as shopaholic I guess :(
Random though n°2 (which follows number 1): why is it so hard to find trousers? Everytime I come home from the shopping convinced that I need to lose weight, but that depresses me, and what gives me happiness in depression? Food. Especially chocolate....
Random thoguht n°3 (which again follows): in one shop I asked if they had a bigger size...they explained me their range of sizes and it turns out that the biggest one they have is smaller than the size I usually wear. Now ok I'm not thing but I'm not even that huge... there's something wrong with this world. (cos most shops with young/cheap stuff are pretty much the same as that one).

A bit more serious random thought of the day:
Some lovers make far better friends, and, in such a case, a compromising, unconditional friendship often seems the best answer. If the other would prefer the friendship, then one could guarantee the purest of all companionships, as the most rewarding friend would persist, tolerating the other friend through every state of mind; if the other prefers no contact, however, then neither the relationship nor potential friendship deserved value. In essence, if that divine word, intending so much more than understood, and transcending all, love, ever existed, some form of commitment would remain.
No worries, not even Dante and his inspiration of Beatrice (in The Divine Comedy) had a romantic relationship, but reportedly had a beautiful friendship.
imthefoolonthehill
07-19-2005, 09:53 AM
It can be painful to settle for only beautiful friendship with the one you love.
I prefer friendship to (LOL) love.
But after all, they're both meant to have an end, so that doesnt really make a difference. But after it's over, a friend probably gave you more than a lover, so you're left with more. Or probably more to hurt about.
I mean ok, in my current state of mind I'd be more positive but I just can't forget my theories about friendship and love. Possibly the biggest influence on my life has been my best friend's betrayal, now 6 years ago. Basically, I know how it feels to be dumped, despite not having ever been in a serious relationship. So beware, your best friend can turn into your murderer.

Ah, you describe so well how I feel about the man I was together with for 10 years. We were okay lovers. I loved him to bits all the time, but we also hurt each other a lot. We had different dreams, different ambitions.. but had trouble letting each other go. Now we are very, very good friends. And somehow this friendship is more 'pure' and better than what we had the last 2 years or so. Most friends think I am a bit weird for still wanting him as my best friend.. but I can think of him in no other way. He is too special NOT to love, even when he is with someone else.. and I would never have him for my lover again.
Thank you for understanding my feelings so well ;).

That's funny, are you looking in my windows at night or something?? How do you know the guy I've been sort of dating and I just decided we make better friends then daters..
How long is it since I said I didn't want to get close to people I met online anymore, and most of all not to meet them? Well today I met a guy I knew online cos I was going to his city for some business, and anyway all people from that site know each other in person cos it's about sharing music passion so they go to concerts etc... Well it was fun, I had met by chance some people I knew so we spent the day all together and so the real people kinds mixed up with someone I met online (whom I didnt know well anyway, like I dont know that well those other people). Why can't people understand, and most of all accept, that it can be possible to make friends, and even lovers, online? If they are so lucky to have a real life and be satisfied with it in terms of personal relationships, why dont they leave others alone?
I was at a dinner party last night and a girl mentioned something about a girl who found a bf online... Why can't they understand that we're not weirdos but just people who share interests and through that can get really close? Sure it's not the same as in real life, and getting a lover that way can be problematic, but it's not like we're all mad people in random chatrooms asking are-u-male-or-female and can-you-send-me-ur-pic all the time... we talk, we share, relationships of closeness can be built... and sometimes take far away...is it so wrong? I dont want to have to hide for all my life the fact that I enjoy to meet people online because not always in real life I find those who can share my interests and points of view...or just because I like to write to people...
In Hungary I realised that real life can be as fun, and now i have much less problems in meeting new people... but still, I can't help enjoying my online friends and sometimes even meet them... but I usually keep all this as secret as I can to people I know, cos they'd look down on me in such a way...is it so wrong? :(

Seriously: I actually think you can learn a lot about people just by reading the sentences they write, the style they choose and the subjects they 'talk' about. It can give me a feeling of closeness that I don't have that much in so-called 'real' life. It does not replace my other relationships.. but it does give me friendships I value a great deal.

so then what we need to understand isn't so much a random enchantment of our interests, but an evanescent quality of desintigration - an everpressent time capsule which pervades our ever feeling as we spiral deeper into this intense feeling of compassion towards the quasimodos of our day.
Something that should never seem a random thought: avoid poetry.com, for honesty's sake!
Yesterday, I spent some time with my younger brother. I never knew he wrote poetry, but he handed me a very familiar letter from poetry.com, reporting that he earned a position as a semi-finalist in their poetry competition. For long, I have known the scam, and, before then, fell for it myself, having once received the precise letter. My brother felt extremely proud, smiling lots, and nearly bragging; needless to say, I felt horrible to tell him the truth, though he did not feel too crestfallen, and the poem, I told him, read impressively well, regardless.

i see how this works, the addiction that isn't acknowledged, but is most widespread enimates from every radio where people use words they don't understand.
And there, so there, I think they're being a pear.
How shocking this morning.
I woke abnormally early this morning, not quite having the ability to sleep, so I crawled out of bed, played some classical music, and picked up my book, Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, to read for a while.
My apartment overlooks a relatively busy road, and, having lived in the city for so long, I have adapted to the sound, but I heard a loud screeeeeech, crash! I ran out on my balcony, seeing two cars totalled, beyond repair, dialed 911, and told the dispatcher the necessities.
Luckily, no one seemed hurt, other than looking very frightened, but, after making the phone call, having a bird's-eye view of the event seemed really interesting - everyone's reactions, what the nearby cars did in response (many stopped to help, and a few, I think, also called 911), and, still, how kind and forgiving the two people in the cars interacted.
Fortunately, this always seeming a busy road, emergency services arrived very quickly, though no one looked physically harmed.

Yesterday, I happened to forget my cell phone somewhere, and did not have it for most of the day. Truly, I enjoy receiving phone calls from friends and family, but it felt somewhat pleasant yet alarming simultaneously. The fact surprised me how attached much of modern humankind has gotten to technology over time; my cell phone seems a relatively simple one, as opposed to recent ones - no camera, text-messaging, etc., but only having the ability to call people and receive calls. How would the world seem without telephones, stereo, television, Internet, and computers, as things seemed before the time of their inventors.
Not surprisingly, I felt strangely uncomfortable without my cell phone, and missed a few calls, but it certainly helped me notice attached we have evolved toward what we have created.

T..'s 4-year old was very protective of me yesterday and bawled his heart out when i had to take the train. once during the day i couldn't find the cue ball and he demanded to know where were my glasses (i never wear them), then instructed grandma to "find asha's glasses." later he went inside and told me to wait for him; he'd be back, and i'd be fine "you'll be okay; i'll be right back." the kicker was that he informed me just before we parted that "You're my son." was i every surprised! no wonder we have such a love and he tries to baby me! :) :)

This morning, by mere chance, I happened to watch Caveman on television, a ridiculously (but funny) movie starring Ringo Starr and Dennis Quaid, which I had not seen since childhood. While watching the cast at the end, whose name do I see but John Matuszak as one of the villains - the same man who played Sloth in another of my favorite childhood movies, The Goonies.
Unfortunately, after looking up his name at a popular movie website (http://www.imdb.com/), I saw that he died in 1989. He seemed well known as Sloth in The Goonies with the revolutionized phrase, "Hey, you guys!" I had never known what he even looked like, and, obviously, he underwent quite a transformation through make-up and cosmetics for his role; sad, however, when some actors and actresses get fixated in one role, while their other works (and death) get somewhat ignored.

When younger siblings do this, Nightshade, it drives me crazy! I love a lot of bands like Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Bob Dylan (who I actually listen to presently), Jimi Hendrix, and others from generations before me; the same seems to go with older movies. Depressingly, when with my younger brother, it seems when I insist on watching a movie filmed before about 1990, he calls it "old and boring." Of course, many older films will never have as much color or special effects than modern movies, but, I think, they tend to compensate with a better plot in most cases (such as one of my favorite movies, Ikiru, a Japanese film made in 1952).

What do you think is behind ths picture? The title is "Early Snow" It nags us.
A theory we have is that the snow came early and thus the crop failed. There is not enough food and she is playing with the dagger, thinking of killing herself because there is no hope left.
But it doesn't fit with all the details. Her clothes are elegant and costly, she looks like a noble and these don't usually starve. We think that the title is methaphorical too, but cannot grasp, what it is.
Wow, some of the things that happen in my neighborhood!
A few weeks ago, I think in this thread, I mentioned a car collision I witnessed, since my bedroom window overlooks a very busy intersection. Early this morning (about 5:30 am), I heard a very similar screech and crash, looked out my window, and saw a large van that hit a sign on the side of the already busy road, but someone ran from the van. This time I felt lazy, and did not want to call 911 like last time, especially since I already saw a nearby pedestrian dialing something quickly on his cell phone, and speaking loudly to, who I could think, a dispatcher. Well, I went back to sleep to the sound of sirens and a tow-truck, carrying away the van.
Later this morning, I had to take out the garbage, and found myself approached by two police officers and their very large, very intimidating German Shephard search dog. The police asked me a few questions if I had seen anyone, witnessed the crash, etc. I told them no, that I only saw the crash. Apparently, the driver ran from the crash, into my apartment complex, leaving his two companions - why, I have no idea.
My neighborhood gets stranger and stranger everyday, especially considering the relatively low crime rate in Portland (as compared to other U.S. cities).

Taliesin: my woefully inadequate 2 cents worth
Yes there is a skiff of snow on the ground. The snow resembles what remains after an accumulated snowfall of big fluffy flakes amounting to several inches, which has now mostly melted. Plump red berries are evident on several low statured plants sprinkled around the field. Late fall to early winter timeline is my guess, a few leaves remain on the elm.... But the field is in fallow, no indication of crops having been planted in the last five years or so. Any crop fields (none in evidence) would have been long harvested by this point in time. She doesn't look worried, but determined. The well structured cottage has a fire going, evidenced by the smoke issuing from the chimney ........(its daylight....cooking fire??......the hearth that supplies heat after the sun goes down already banked for the day???)
Also, she has left the house in only her undergarments/light open necked blouse/bedroom dress and a heavy robe or throw. She rushed outside in a hurry......

What song is that fool? Don't tell me that tune is slightly upbeat? Where has my buddy of morose discontent gone? Is college turning you giddy on life? Have you gone to the happy side of life?
Earlier today, I walked several miles through a forest trail (very naturally scenic); many seem to exist in various parts of my city, but, though I have lived here my entire life, I had never wandered this one.
As such beautiful, natural scenery, I felt instantly in a wonderful mood, and other hikers on the trail seemed to mutually have an agreeable, joyful manner.
Random thought: does such nature place several people in a good mood, do others in a good mood further add to the pleasure of such an amble, or do most people merely walk in such areas while in a good mood?
While letting mono's question slip cos I really don't know (but I'd say that people go there in a good mood which is then amplified, or maybe go there in a bad mood and relax a bit there...so well, I ended up answering... :p) I feel the urge to tell you my random thought which is actually yesterdays'...
Well, whenever I watch an Italian movie I feel like..so into that... everything is so familiar, the landscapes (many of them feature beautiful or at least typical landscapes), the habits, and I wonder what a foreigner would feel in watching that, cos it wouldn't feel familiar to them... and the use of regional accents to me adds power to that feeling... It's one of the rare moments when I do feel Italian cos I feel I belong to those landscapes, those cities, those car journeys, those apartments, that food... Italy wouldnt be that bad if it wasn't so full of stereotypical Italians I guess :D

When I'm alone and in bed, I usually wonder why I'm hear in this world. What is my mission in this earth? Am I hear just to eat, sleep, have sex and then die? Life without purpose is not worth living. But I really feel lost because I have no directions and all the ways lead nowhere. Today I woke up early and this thought show up again. We are swiming in a dark ocean where sharks are roaming everywhere.

Most often, I used to sit on the third seat by the aisle at the end of a carriage, as this gave me more leg room.
Now I sometimes sit in the window seat at the end of the carriage. It feels cramped. But that feeling reminds me of places I would hide when I was a child; of being in bed; of intimacy.
Yesterday, I saw you, for the first time, with your child board the train, and sit adjacent to me, on the other side of the aisle. Today, you sat on my side and said "Hello". I was totally unprepared and echoed your words in a mumbling incompetence. Sometimes, its difficult to handle civilisation on public transport!
adil, personally I think that life has no meaning. You can set up your purposes, like getting that job or passing that exam or buy that thing or go out tonight... but the rest is mere pastime. And consider yourself lucky cos some people have in their list of things to do while alive just eating, drinking and sleeping :D
Anyway I came to post my random thought
I hate phonecalls. I need to call some places to find some kind of job while I finish my studies, but the hardest part is just convince myself to make the call. It's not that scary, I just don't like it. When I was younger things like these made me really nervous... Now not really, the hardest part is always starting... When I worked a few months ago I often used to have to call people...students just like me, nothing scary, but still I always tried to postpone it until I really had to do it...
I also hate formal emails. I really need to hear from my teacher about the damn paper but I'm here postponing sending her an email cos I hate to have to be formal, it always makes me feel like I'm writing something wrong and they'd judge me for it...Makes no sense... Off to do it now I guess, cos I have less than 2 months to do my paper and the sooner I ask for help the sooner things will get started...I hope. *sighs*

Random thought: does such nature place several people in a good mood, do others in a good mood further add to the pleasure of such an amble, or do most people merely walk in such areas while in a good mood?
I really like this thought of you, mono. It refers me to a vietnamese tale called Kieu Tale by Nguyen Du (a Vietnamese famous poet in 18th century). This tale has some contexts which describe this feeling. Sometimes inspirated by beautiful or peaceful or...sceneries, your mood would change accordingly. You may feel happy or better. Yet if you are not in a good mood, you might see things around you at the time not in the way they actually are. Well it perhaps depends on how strong such sceneries can affect you. Yet mostly I believe your SELF is a main factor there. In case you are inspirated to feel good, that's really good. But if your'e feeling worse or not that better, you should be calm enough to look for a better side. :)
As for me, I like walking round lakes just seeing things and people. I also like seeing peaceful and quite places, just to feel relaxed and refreshed.
I like to walk alone...also in cities...I like cities, they are so interesting...

Perhaps not random thought today - Why oh why do all of you write so fast? I have no chance of keeping up on the poetry forum.

You gave me the idea. Then i knew I had to act fast or my Stanny would have been grabbed up by some other forum member.
Wow, I've inspired someone... :D

Just feeling a little bit tired and thinking of how a differant person I'm of what I used to be, I wonder of what make us change. Change is word used when something differant is noticed in sombody else but rarely in ourselves. Time, people around us, past experiences, love... are all factors that interfere in the process of change. But have we any choice to make in thit process? Have we any role to play in this process that take place all along our life and how? sometimes I feel that I'm just a forgotten thing thrown in a place without any perpose or meaning of his existance. Shall I build the perpose of my life or is it thrown upon my shoulders and have I to cary its burden till my death?
Sory to bother you with my dark thoughts. But that's my random thought of the day.

If you dont mind me saying so I think it is a bit of both. You build your own life but you use the things that are thrown at you.
