i hate how our bones look like tree rings in a microscopic cross section.

Its almost as if they are doing it JUST to piss me off...

MY bones don't look like tree rings under a microscope... and i can prove it! (at a much much later date...yeah... a much later date)...

I must find someone else whos bones don't look like tree rings under a microscope, because everyone else is part of the conspiracy.

...........yes......i am THAT tired.

Yes, bugs bunny wears glasses sometimes, and he himself is a rich turd (to quote Mr. Who-Shall-Remain-Named...above). On those occasions when Mr. Bunny wears glasses he is usually in disguise, posing as a rabbit of soft intellect, or posing as a librarian, an acaedemic, a man of the books. But just as often, he wears glasses and a a dress........with pouch like pockets large enough to comfortably carry some juicy, extra carrots.
But I digress......

I LOVE Bugs Bunny! I like his intellectual pose too

My bone does not look like tree rings in microscopic cross section. Trees are made of wood, I am not.....going to chop down another tree...ever.....without wondering if the tree is screaming in agony, horrified at its inability to protect itself everytime the axe hits......the rest of the forest must inwardly cringe in fear that they may be next....toothpicks can be useful though.........

I have noticed this too, amuse, being your fellow science geek. :D
Thinking also of trees, I find it interesting that multi-polar neurons almost appear like thin tree branches, touching each others roots (axons), which gives another idea of the 'tree of knowledge;' additionally that the white matter of the cerebellum, called the arbor vitae, translates as 'tree of life' in Latin.

well, here it is, time to do laughdry i mean laundry (where did that come from) early sunday morning so that i can either go shopping or babysit the yorkie while his mommy goes to a surprise birthday party.
much rather would've done brunch, but the clothes must have their day!
meanwhile, i shall ruminate as to why i dreamt of global warming with the reverse effect of extending the beach, and marine life washed up on shore, and chatting with a dolphin, so far from land and i asked would it give me a ride. of course it obliged. :) swam right under me and, how loving is that? we had to stay away from orcas of course, but we sang hu and - and i don't know what happened after that. i assume we made it safely to shore.
ta! have a great day.

it was blizzard-ish today. my uni even cancelled evening classes, unheard of! and i was thinking, after making it safely inside - not easy, there was a bit of a white-out and the bus fogged up, so i ended up missing my stop by about 6 or 7 blocks - how beautiful it looks outside, rather like an eighteenth century greeting card plus cable and telephone wires. the trees were luscious, fat snowflakes resting on branches under a blindingly white sky. everything just purely, sharply bright and wouldn't you know i've loaned out my cam'ra? ...this was so worth the sharp pellets driven into my face.

baddad,
if you think about it, even the most random thoughts we have, they are results of some extended thinking... A leads to B, which leads to C and D and E... Somehow we end up at K and think it is all random but when we backtrack our thinking process, it is all connected. IMHO

I feel very sorry to hear of your recent loss, sub, as such break-ups never right until the heart heals, which varies in time, of course. My opinion: perhaps your former boyfriend knew not of the luck he had. ;)

My random thoughts of the day:
Some good foods and drinks taste good by themselves, but not together; never eat green tea ice cream with mediocre coffee containing too much french vanilla cream.
Sleep deprivation rarely feels bad for the first day; the second day feels horrible.

When I am self-critical, it is like splitting the atom: I can only criticise Atiguhya Padma when the 'I' is in the critic and not in Atiguhya Padma. This means that in the act of criticism I am forever creating lost 'I's and personality detritus. Sometimes I wish I could pin the 'I' down and expose it for what it is, but the focus of sincerity would never be there, for the I is no more than the now moment in time, and like Eliot's birds say of us humans, it cannot take too much reality.

Yesterday I was sitting at the local cafe and looking out the window. I always sit in the same seat were I can look at the sea and the ships and the boats. A group of birds started flying and I saw how much beauty is in this world. Things we take for granted like the ocean and people walking around. The birds were so free and amazing as they started flying. They bearly touched the ocean with their wings. I started talking to the girl that was sitting on the next table and she had been thinking about the same thing. We sat there for two hours talking about this beautiful world we are so fast forgetting. I wish I remembered her name. Sometimes the world is so beautiful I don't think I can handle it. I just want to curl up in my bed and forget it.

This was such a big revelation for me I just had to share it with someone.

Trying too hard to remember last night's dream can get quite frustrating, but I remember calm rivers;
If "the best part of waking up is Folger's in your cup" (Folger's Coffee television slogan), one must have neither tastebuds nor sanity;
A very good recently-made motion picture soundtrack: Life Aquatic, featuring David Bowie in various, I think Portugeuse, languages.

Gonna use mono's sentence-beginning: this morning's thoughts:

me: moooooom, go away, I just fell asleep two hours ago *growls and turns under the blanket*
mom: I told you not to stay awake that late... did you just say what I think you said? *looks pissed*
me: *crap, digging my own grave, are we?* I mean, I was reading stuff
mom: how many times do I have to tell you to go to bed and sleep at night!
me: uhm...
mom: come on, it's half past 9 already
me: *ughmmhggghhhhmhmfpphffm*
mom: *opens the blinds blinding me for about ten minutes* stop squinting and get up
me: *uhgmhugnuhg*

I'm just so happy to be at home again... NOT *dozes off*

One moment because of which it seems

It's a toss up between playing harp or cross-stitching. I guess anything to keep my fingers busy when I'm not reading.

OT: I guess you are better than me. For me, I kept my fongers busy by playing recorder while reading sometimes.
I do not do it anymore. I have come attached to my flute more than my recorder - i think that recorder has a bit too small range and the thing is hard to do when playing flute for two reasons:
*It is much harder getting the tone right with the flute. When playing the recorder you get the tone right by blowing it. But flute is a very sensitive instrument when talking about tone. When starting to play you probably will get no tone at all for you do not know how to blow correctly.
*Recorder is smaller and i could use it for stopping the pages flapping.

Wow, I couldn't read and play to save my life unless it was lyrics. I've played the flute and the recorder too. The flute was definately better for the sound, but I couldn't get those higher notes at all. I was teaching myself, so maybe if I had an instructor I could've gotten it. Finally, I gave up but I find the harp more relaxing anyway.

I was thinking of the pope today and wondering what will happen if he falls into a coma.

Isn't that what's happening, sort of? I tell you what happens: all the TVs talk about him 24/7 and tell the story of his life 35 times a day and I feel like screaming 'leave him alone, he's not dead yet, keep all this fuss for when he's dead!' (think about it, theu0ll run out of thing to say before he's actually dad, cos I'm sure it will take time cos the guy is really strong. Unless he recovers, but then they'll scream to the miracle and it might be the day I smash all the TVs I find...). Then I switch on the satellite tv to find out if anything else is happening around the world.

Well I'm in a personal battle against the church these years, but the guy was great indeed... It is quite a historical moment. I'm very curious about the succession

My random thought of today was actually personal (never said I'm not selfish ;)): yesterday i was wondering what was happening to myself. Since I've become more open to the world, I feel I'm going more and more brainless...Where is my poetry, my originality, my difference from the world, my uniqueness...Am I becoming a boring copy of the others? Basically I was almost missing my depression...
But today I'm feeling more like myself cos last night I went out with some of the "normal" youth, and a guy's behaviour reminded me why I spent my teenage years alone: cos most people I knew where like him and I just can't stand people who worship the concept of Saturday night with sentences like "we can't spend a saturday night in an icecream shop" and most of all "why the hell are they talking about such serious topics? It's not a topic for a Saturday night". it pisses me off, I can do anything and talk about anything if I feel like it, I don't feel obliged to act "cool" (cool is in their mind of course) and talk crap just because it's Sat. night. Argh, what a damn mentality.
So I felt that I'm still not totally part of what I call "the world of normal youth", cos even if the other people were nice and fun, I didnt feel I belonged totally to their world anyway. And in a way I was relieved...I'm not omologated yet...

What I wouldn't give for a good old serious group discussion in an ice cream shop on Sat. night. I had two grps of friends (I'm a little older than you Koa), thru teens, early 20's, one was a bunch of vacuums, no debates, no current events (unless you count gossip), the other, high intellects, but felt they were elitists. Didn't fit in really with either, so uncomfortable. It's great to be in the latest fashion, lovely looks, prestige, but really, it comes down to having a nice house but nobody is home. Would have been nice to have a hybrid of the two. Now, I have husband who thinks his harley is the topic for every discussion, friends who only talk of their kids, work, etc. No wonder we go to a small corner of the room, write, draw, think, at least we get what we want, you know?

Wow......lhaeber......in my mind I just incorporated your signature phrase into your little note above...........my own intrepretation slipped in there... *jeez I'm weird*

I think it is so crucially important to be ourselves. This can be most difficult with ongoing relationships. People don't like change. Personal growth upsets a comfortable balance between friends, spouses, etc. I change so often, find new interests at a dizzying rate, and this often confuses those close to me. But I cannot live my life for the benefit of others, though I would never go out of my way to injure someone's feelings or expectations. The Ice Cream Shop sounds like fun, and like all experiences, it should be an experience to savour, but alas this particular activity is attractive only for some. And that is okay too. Onward and upward to a full life, and best wishes to those who will not sit and chat at the parlour. All we can ask of our friends/relations is the space to be allowed to be ourselves. Surely they can grant us this simple wish.......

lhaeber
04-04-2005, 01:42 AM
When I am myself, maybe quietly thinking and not pleasing everyone around me, then ultimately I am asked, what is wrong? Pleasing others THEIR way is a fact of life, I cannot contentedly behave the way I wish when in company of others who are extremely extroverted or those whose only subject matter is flat, empty topics. I find it selfish (my own issue) to read while my son flitters around me, so I have to pay attention to him. Same as in high school for example, impossible to wear what you want, carry what you want, without drawing attention and then having to respond. It's so hard to advise my son, be yourself, when being yourself, not conforming, attracts negative attention. Don't get me wrong, it can work, but you have to have such a strong sense of self initially, and that comes with time, experience. I don't even feel I have it yet, at my age, yet I am calm, cool and collected with myself. Hell, I like me. But asking others to let me be me in their company is excrutiating. That's why, I suppose, strangers are so enticing, I can breathe. What I wouldn't give, to travel as you have...why does that make me think of Johnathan Livingston Seagull?

baddad

I started throwing the kids out of airplanes when they reached 18yrs old.....great fun if your a parent...something to look forward to... ( :

And...

.....yeah......good old Johathan Livingston Seagul.............he had a bit of a messy end though didn't he? I suppose my own approach to life, trying everything, trying to see everything, attemting to accumulate as many experiences as possible may also lead to some abrupt end, but then life is so short that abrupt endings are really the norm......

hmm, that would be interesting... on that thought what would happen if the borg assimilated a jedi??? would they get jedi powers???

:D

On that same idea, if they assimilated a good jedi would the jedi overpower the borg's need to assimilate? then what would happen to the borg, isn't their primary function to assimilate.

Wow, the possibilities!!!!

damn... some french guy/girl is suposed to stay at my place for a week. arriving in a couple of days... why the hell have i entered this stupid school exchange? i don't have any idea what he/she's like and with my luck, he/she'll be just like one of those people koa described above, self-sufficient and sooo "cool" and "trendy" or whatever they're called... and i'll probably wanna kick his/her butt right outta my house, and we'll hate each other, and i'll waste time... like always. missed enough school already for a stupid contest...
crap.

whaaat??? clean your mouth after saying this! There's nothing bettere than a school exchange, even when people are like that! I'm still pissed off cos we were supposed to have 2 exchanges and we did only once...and that was years and years ago.
And there's always a good excuse to miss school, if there are exchanges going on you wouldnt miss anything important anyway.

On explanation to my previous post, it's not about being shallow cos I can be so embrassingly shallow if I want (and even if I don't), it's all about not having to do something just cos it's cool to...it makes me go MAD :rage: And the conversation that was going on wasn't even that heavy....just a topic to discuss about.

Wow baddad mentioned his age...I thought he was around 35 ... really...

And about the Swiss guards:

They must be Roman Catholics, unmarried, between 18 and 25 years of age, and they must also be good-looking. (nice, nonjudgemental christian prerequisite). Officially they are supposed to be over 1.74 meters tall, but nowadays this regulation is not enforced too strictly.
:goof: :goof: :goof: Young...good-looking...rather tall...Now I find it even more stupid that I've never been to Rome! What am I doing still here? :goof: *sets off to Rome uncaring of the crowd of millions* :D

"The government today announced that it is changing it's emblem from an Eagle to a CONDOM because it more accurately reflects the government's political stance. A condom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually being screwed. WOW, it just doesn't get more accurate than that."

I just want to say that Jabba the hut was really cool, and he is most likely my fave character in SW, well one of them....my e-mail is jabbathehelga

not because I'm fat or a blob of goo, I love it

Stan, I get your borg pic and the name, I have been a fan for 10 years and TNG was a very good series, me and my brother had a ST marathon with his friends and we watched the whole DS9 series and drank raktachino

LOL I agree...that's what I found starnge now that you make me think about it... But I think they want to underline how impressive it is that something in Italy (ok vatican but it's heavily surrounded by Italy) is going on perfectly from the point of view of organisation (we're not used to being the examples in organisation! :D)...it's definitely the first time as they said on tv here...We have still tomorrow to make some mess though...

Ok, this thought is not exactly random. However it is the only thought that has been in my head since Sunday.

WARNING: RANT AHEAD

What the hell is wrong with people in Glasgow? I am currently truly ashamed to say that I am a fan of Glasgow Rangers Football Club.

They have always been associated with protestantism, however I overlooked the years of refusing to sign players of the Catholic faith. I didn't pay attention to it because I was far more interested in just watching the games.

Once I became a little older, I began to understand the references being made in the songs, like the battle of the boyne; King William of Orange; being up to their knees in fenian blood. Once I understood these references I stopped attending the matches, only watching on TV from then on.

However the events of Sunday have made me physically sick, and I am seriously considering stopping paying attention to the team.

During their match on Sunday, sections of the crowd seemed to take extreme pleasure in singing about how the Pope was dead. This was completely beyond the realm of acceptable behaviour in society (even in Glasgow where society has become nearly non-existent) I had expected some chants due to the contingent of moronic, bigoted, generally insane "fans"(often they are supporters of the likes of Ian Paisley) who come over from Northern Ireland to watch the games. The volume of the songs however make me quite sure that it was not a minority involved.

RANT OVER

My commiserations. I've always been intrigued by Scottish football. Like the religion of Glasgow, it all seems to be about two teams. Which makes life rather boring for the likes of Hearts or Hibs or Aberdeen. Being an atheist, Gretna are probably the natural analogy for me (despite their great achievements this year, they only manage to muster a thousand or so fans for a game).

But, to get back to your point. It does appear rather pointless to me to have a religious faith that glories in the sufferings of people with other beliefs.

I suddenly remember this day, when this lady came to our house and brought along a small radio. It seemed that she was selling it to my mother in need of money. I was still 6 years old at that time. Me and my brothers were so excited since we have no other entertaiment at home at that time. My mom bought it and she said "Now we can hear great Christmas songs and music this year".

Funny, sub, as I can partially relate to this story. The first time I saw a cellular phone, I remember wandering through my downtown home city, Portland, and a very distinguished, clean-cut looking man in a nice business suit passed us talking into what looked like a large gray-colored brick with a black antenna. Being only a child, I pointed at the cell phone, tugging my mom's hand, and loudly asked, "mom, what is that thing?" "It's a portable cellular phone," she replied.
At the time, I thought, only relatively wealthy people could afford them. Who would have thought that numerous people cannot leave their homes without their cellular phone?

Had a shift, was going to do some chem afterward, but was too tired/lazy and went doodling/making up stories instead. It was fun but didn't make me feel good. :(

Also, I really hate people who list The Da Vinci Code first as one of their favorite books. Worse if that's their only favorite book. Okay, so let's read only what everyone else has read and thought good and then have the same opinion. Geez.

I agree Ajoe, some people like to say they have read books just to be kind of snobbish and up to date. I haven't read the Da Vinci Code but know someone that has and they thought it interesting enough, but a bit too long and full of impossible coincidences - not the best book in the world.
I have just finished reading a book called Forever Today by Deborah Waring. It is about a man who has had his memory almost completely wiped out by a virus. The only thing he remembers is his wife and that he loves her. Every moment is the one he just woke up in. He keeps a diary to keep track if his days but can't understand the former entries where he has written that he just woke up. Because he doesn't remember being awake then, so he thinks the entry is wrong...even though he might have written it only a couple of minutes before. It is a true story and I couldn't put it down. It's impossible for such a story to have a happy ending, but miracles do happen and the book does have a happy ending.

Hey Fool, can’t help you too much with ellipses, (or para-bolas or hyper-bolas for that matter). ‘Bout all I remember from calculus is: although the Taylor Expansion Theorem wouldn’t necessarily solve an integral equation – it’d get you close enough.

More Ranting (different subject however)

Ok, I have just returned from my local bar/restaurant where along with a couple of my friends we were celebrating the end of the days exams and taking advantage of the cheap food night.
After we were done the bill came to $65 (cdn), so we threw down $70, and proceeded to get on our coats to leave. It was at this point that our waitress returned and queried the size of tip we had left her (she was of the opinion she should have recieved more).
I disagree with tipping at the best of times (sure as hell no-one ever tips me for my work - I work in a hardware store part-time), however to come up to a group of customers and ask why you didnt get a bigger tip is imho the height of bad manners. We are quite obviously college students and have very little spare cash as it is, needless to say she managed to put a decent downer on what was to be a relaxing night.
Before we left we all emptied the pennies etc. out of our wallets and left a note for her telling her that we hoped she enjoyed spending it.

Another rant over
