Well, everybody has his/her favourite games :)

I myself am no gamer. I just always sucked at it when I tried, never had the patience to just go on with it and get better ;) I just wanted to be good straight away  I did find an extra level for Mario once, as a little kid - the neighbour boy immediately took over the controls when he figured out I had found some place he had never been :D I grabbed it back but after getting killed 5 times I let him play it ... :p

Yes, I know - but I already spend so much time behind a computer... If I become a gamer too, I'll never go outside anymore  That would be a shame :D.

And, I need some spare time to read books - got to count that in too ;)

But you're right. If you really want something, you've got to try and try again.

I love Rooibos too :). And green tea :D. Although I'd order mine as:
1. Green tea
2. Chrysanthemum tea
3. Rooibos tea
4. other types of tea (I had a really nice Jasmine one once)

of course I know some of those are tisanes rather than teas, but I'm tired :)

Does laser hair removal work? I'm getting so so tired of waxing legs and other parts. But I'm worried about these long term/permanent solutions, I've heard sometimes they have horrible consequences.

About Hair Removal
A girl I know is having it done. Not sure about the consequences in the long run, but I do know it takes a long time before you're done with it! She is doing her legs and bikini line, and needs 8 appointments to get it to work. As I understand, the machine goes for the darkest hairs first, then the 2nd appointment is for the next to darkest hairs etc. She needs at least 6 weeks (I do not remember exactly) between each treatment. Taking that you're not allowed to go into the sun (bad for the skin and diminishes the contrast between hairs and skin) and the treatment itself is hurtful and expensive... I am really doubtful to take the step. Almost one whole year not in the sun! :eek2: But, on the other hand... you do not need to shave anymore, that is worth something I guess.

She believes it works (otherwise she would not have done it). I don't know - got to see it in 10 years time ... Very sceptical myself ;)

Shalot
04-23-2009, 10:15 AM
I've heard that there is the possibility of some of it growing back with the laser thing, but some is better than a lot I guess. Hair removal in general is a pain - no matter what you do there seems to be some side effect. Isn't there a prescription cream you can get? That's not permanent either. As soon as you quit using it, the hair grows back, and it's expensive.

Why can't hairy sasquatch be in style? It'd be much easier.

Sapphire
04-23-2009, 10:28 AM
I wonder how long this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOQCBSUDuyY) would last... I think I'll stick to the razor...

And yeah, it has probably to do with style. But I am used to smooth legs now. Would not want them hairy even if it would become "style" now...

PoeticPassions
04-23-2009, 10:44 AM
it's all about perception I guess. I agree, I am so used to shaving that having really hairy legs would bother me... but maybe that's because I have been socialized to think that hairy legs and armpits, and so on, are ugly and gross.... I remember a time when I did not wax my bikini line (or do a brazilian wax) and I was fine with it, lived with it, then all of a sudden it became something that I "should" do, so I do it always now... hating it when the hair grows too much.

ah, conformity and social norms. Maybe if they had a new magazine out: with healthy (by this I mean not stick thin or airbrushed) looking and hairy girls as models... then things would be different.

Sapphire
04-23-2009, 11:51 AM

My aunt had that done. It has been 2 years and it seemed to have worked. Also, my brother had a teacher in middle school that got his facial hair (mustache, beard areas) removed with the laser. As far as I know he hasn't had any problems. I hate shaving...and I can't stand seeing an bit of growth on my legs, etc. If I had the money I would consider undergoing the procedure--only because I've seen the effect first hand. Then again, it is up for personal opinion. This same aunt also got her eyebrows, lip liner and eye liner tattooed on. Very popular in Mexico I believe. I don't think I would EVER consider that.

Oh, and I figured out what I'm doing for my make up for the party. No glow in the dark, I decided to take a mod/retro look with bright sassy colors. Should be super fun.

Sapphire
04-24-2009, 04:53 AM
Hmm... even if it works only for 2 years it might be worth the hustle... But indeed, money is a bother to get this done. I also heard it's not the best thing to do to your skin...

I had my hair cut ( by a hairdresser) on friday It was midback length to start and now about sholder length.
Look at me away a month and I cant even think how to post ...
where was I oh yes hair, so the hairderesser sees my hair and makes the squeaky OH MY GOD sound, and want to know just how much she can chop off... I hadn't realised it had got that bad. I should perhaps explain that including friday I have had my hair cut/seen by hairdresser on 2 in the last 13 years. Generally I grab one of my sisters when they are bored and go hey do you feel like cutting 4 inches off my hair?
so question conditioner- how does that work exactly? as in why is supposed to be so good? what makes it any different to shampoo? and how do I use it...

Eugenie
04-26-2009, 04:24 PM
people didn't used to use conditioner I think, but instead used vinegar in water for the final rinse, or if blonde, lemon water. Conditioner is supposed to make the hair shaft smooth, the little threads lying down and one on top of the other instead of flying about and giving the appearance of disorder and dullness, as opposed to shampoo which lifts dirt from the hair and rinses away in water.
It is a good idea to use conditioner if it is fly away, course or unmanagible. But you must rinse thoroughly. And if still dreadful on the ends you can use very refined oil, mixed in the palm of your hand with a little water and massaged in. Makes thehair look polished and elegant.

I once had sixteen inches cut off. I remember feeling like a friend had died and I felt sick for a while until I learned to love my shoulder length bob.

I need to get my hair trimmed soon - and yes, Muslim women DO go to the hair dresser, and we DO style and colour our hair!!

I had my hair mid-back length up to early last year. Then I got it cut shoulder-length, and now I can't wait for it to grow longer...and it's seeming to take FOREVER!!! Ilvoe long hair!

I forgot to mention - today my fiance and I went to the apartment to start getting things in order. It was so romantic, being there together with him, knowing that that's where we're going to start our life together. We didn't take a thing to eat...I'd taken an apple and a pear, and he brought Gatorade and Lucozade - and that was breakfast and lunch...lol...needless to say - it was one of the best meals that I've had ;-)

I can imagine Tournesol. :) Must be exiting to start a new period in your life, especially when it is a step to share that life ;)

And hairdresser... what is there to say. I went to one last month or so - telling them to cut it "shoulder length" - and take care I can still make a pony tail. Silly little me thought that would be "lowest tip on the shoulder blades". Of course I just let the hairdresser do her thing while I read up on the latest car technologies :p Imagine my surprise when I looked up and saw my hair hanging until my shoulders  She cut of 30cm! All my own "fault", but it was quite uneasy for a week  I was so used to long hair  It was a good thing she cut so much of though, my hair was a mess - I always bind it together by ... well, I grab the hair, turn it into chaos (or keep it in chaos) and put an elastic around it. No neat tail for me. Needless to say I had knots in my hair that were impossible to get out... So it is a good thing she could just cut those :)

Any ways... coffee anyone?

Well, she listened all right. I just had this image in my head of how it would be afterwards and it was a bit shorter than I had imagined ;) It is odd - I really feel like I have short hair now (shoulderlenght), while I have had a really short cut (ear lenght :p) until my next to final year in high school. I usually get my hair cut once a year around spring, early summer. Last time I had it cut was July of last year. It was way past my shoulders and I told my hairdresser I want it shoulder length. Meaning, I want my hair to reach my shoulders not above. So she starts cutting away and I am paying attention and thinking how short is she going but sometimes its hard to tell when your hair is still wet. To make a long story short, my hair was shorter than what I had wanted. I had a little stub for a pony tail.

I have thought about going for "short" hair again (when I have a steady income again and can actually afford to go to a hairdresser ;) ) but I really have no idea what kind of cut would look good. Then I grow out my fringe so it is even with the rest , love it. then one day I see someone with a fringe and it is exquisite, so I cut mine and I just love it.And then a couple of months later..........................sniff, sniff, have to start again. It gets so totally fatiguing. :(

I feel ya. My hair used to be down past my waist, then one fateful day, I went a little nuts. You know, where you're like, "I feel like doing something crazy! Screw the world; I can do what I want!"... Yeah, I pulled an illegal U-turn and high-tailed it to my hair dresser. "Cut it all off. I want a buzz cut..." My hair dresser finally agreed to do it after probing me with questions like, "Did you break up with your boyfriend? Are you on drugs? Did you loose your job?" (My hair dresser and I are pretty close, so she was justified in harping on me before going through with it.) Thankfully, she knew me well enough to suggest a really short pixie cut, and then I could go shorter after that if I wanted. The pixie cut looked great! And, she was right in thinking that I might have regretted going with a buzz cut.

It's been three years now and my hair is a happy shoulder length. Although it did go through a really weird mullet phase to get here.

Does anyone else have that special relationship with their hairdresser that's seems to be unique to those lovely people that mak you look hot? (hair dresser, wax lady, manicurist, etc...)

By the way, Hello again to everyone! I've been gone from the forums for quite a while. I missed it!

I adore coffee, but since I am perpetually short of sleep, I try to only drink it once a week, or unfortunately, I get somewhat cranky.

I also enjoy a cup of tea in the afternoon, either greenteea or cinnamon apple.

LadyWentworth
04-29-2009, 05:00 PM
Well, I don't drink coffee or tea. My drink of choice in the morning tends to be hot chocolate. Sometimes I take a sip of soda in the morning (preferably Coke), but I prefer to have that cup of hot chocolate. Something about the warmth of it feels good on my throat. The taste is much more pleasing than coffee or tea (for me, at least :)).

Just for the heck of it I bought a package of hot chocolate that said it had as much caffeine as coffee. So I had a cup one morning and about an hour later I was so jittery. My legs wouldn't stop. I finally realized what it was. Well, I had another cup of it a couple of months later and that was later on in the day. I went to bed that night and I couldn't sleep at all! It was one of the most miserable nights of my life. I was so nervous all night long.

Now, I have always thought the caffeine in soda was a myth when it comes to being able to perk somebody up. Honestly, it doesn't do a thing for me. I drink all kinds (mostly Coke and Mountain Dew) and I am never affected. I could drink it before bed and I would be fine. So I was never sure if that was true about coffee, too. Until I had this hot chocolate. If it really has the same amount of caffeine as coffee, then I can't imagine drinking something like that day after day. It would probably turn me into a wild animal! :p

No, I will just stick to my plain hot chocolate in the morning. :)

Sapphire

So I was never sure if that was true about coffee, too.
I often drink a cup of coffee right before I go to bed: no trouble whats however with sleeping. It might have to do with the fact that I drink loads of coffee during the day already... I just really like the taste of it :) Just the normal coffee that is, not too fond of flavoured coffee and definitely not with sugar or milk in it .

And for the record: when I am on holiday and do not drink coffee I do not get shaky or such ;) :p

So... I really have no idea how this caffeine thing works... When I try to keep awake I just force myself to do something useful and focus - on long car drives energy drinks do come in handy, but you've got to be careful for after a while the kick is done for.

Niamh

I stopped drinking coffee because i found my body was depending on it too much. When i stopped drinking it i couldnt get over how tired i was and that made me change my sleeping habits. After a few months i felt such a difference and in truth, because i wasnt on a caffiene fueled energy, pushing myself over my physical boundaries and exhaustion, i wasnt getting as sick as often as i had been.
Oddly now i cant drink it even if i wanted to. :D

Nah... it says "anyone for coffee" in the title of the thread. Everybody in here is free to say "no thanks, I'd like some... ".

I myself am a big fan of coffee, but I often notice that when I go out with some girls to "talk over coffee" I am the only one to actually drink coffee  So maybe we should read the title of this thread rather like an invite to sit down with a drink and have a nice chat ;)

Having said that, I offer you:

after reading that, Sapphire, I think I'll go make a pot of coffee.

I put some family members and other people who we are acquainted with on my ignore list today. Maybe I'm in a bad mood, I don't know. It's getting harder and harder for me to keep my mouth shut when people say really hateful or just stupid things. I've about decided that I only like the people here on lit net.

Sapphire

I can not say I ever try to keep my mouth shut when people say hateful things. If they do not hold back, I will not be inclined to do so either - though I would rather say "why" than "well, you yourself *insert insult* ". But keeping quiet, no. Not something I aim for. I can expect that to be a hard thing to do. I guess in my case my face would give me away as much as my mouth when things like that are being said :p

Sorry to hear your family is giving you a hard time. It might be a bit of a big step to totally ignore them, but what do I know - I have no idea what they said or did. Just happy there is internet to interact with people in a different way :)

It's actually my husband's family. They don't say hateful things about me to me. It's about everyone else. I can only guess what they say about me:rolleyes: It is hard to keep my mouth shut, but opening it would not satisfy me or create a change in them.

But if I am...

I don't like coffee either, at least, not on it's own. A half-and-half coffee and hot chocolate is delicious, or any kind of beverage that includes coffee, just not on its own. Most of the time I just drink a lot of tea.

And going back to the hair topic, I could never get a lot of hair cut off! I've always had long hair and I'm absurdly attached to it. Last week I got my hair trimmed and my layers touched up and my bangs cut. All in all, no more than an inch and a half was taken off in any one place except my bangs and it feels waayy too short. I have agreat respect for Scher and her 30 cm lost

I love coffee, but I'm a snob about it. I can't do just any old pot. Nope, I buy beans that are roasted when I order them, and then I grind them fresh every day:D It's bad enough that my Valentine's day gift was an espresso machine so that now I can make a tasty latte whenever I like which has this uncanny ability to be at 10pm. Does anyone else have the tendency to settle down in the evening with a caffinated drink? Everyone always tends to swear that it keeps them up, but as long as I don't go overboard I don't have an issue.

Sapphire
05-02-2009, 03:50 PM
Wow... I guess I am exactly the opposite: I can drink the lousiest coffee, as long as it is coffee :) However, I have roommates who are a bit more picky about it all and they indeed buy fresh beans and we grind them every day because there just is no regular coffee in the house anymore :eek2: I know - that sounds spoiled. But if we all chip in on it and buy our beans on sale, it proves to be quite affordable :) Just not when you drink as much coffee as I do, so I have my own machine

And no, I don't have an issue with it - ever. What would you call overboard? I easily drink 2 big mugs of coffee after 21h ...

I often drink a cup of coffee right before I go to bed: no trouble whats however with sleeping. It might have to do with the fact that I drink loads of coffee during the day already
That is why I think soda doesn't affect me at all. I drink too much of it that I think I may be immune to it. Then again, it never made me hyper as a kid, like people say it does. It never had an affect on me like that. I honestly don't understand the Mountain Dew thing. I don't see how it makes one hyper because, like I said, MD and Coke are my drinks of choice, and I have NO reaction to them at all. It is interesting. :)

OK the boys wittering on the subject of bras has annoyed me enough to go digging whihc wasnt that easy concidering the search engine requires 4 letters in a word, but I found them. This is what we thought way back when we were originally discussing bras.

The problem is the colour... I cant really tell .
But I have ISSUES that Im not going to bore people with other than to comment Im fairly sure that most bras are either designed by men with no common sense what so ever or people with breasts so small that they never realise that the main point of a bra is support not how aestheticly pleasing they are to the eye... Last year I was wondering around a bra shop and saw that some brightspark thought you could have H cup bra with tiny ribbon straps, now think about that logically for a minute, and I actually know a case of this happening with a brand new bra wit a girl in the larger sizes, that is NOT going to work either you end up with cuts on your shoulders from the straps.... or and this is what happened to the poor person ... you bend over the bra snaps and you end up with half your bra falling out in public.... mortification.

On other bra related matters.... apparantly underwire bras can badly damage breasts in early teens... apparntly you supposed to buy them flexi bras... or nonwired, which for some reason are almost impossible to buy nowadays in the really small sizes. :eek2:

Oh, I have so many complaints about bras that I don't even know where to start.

In the first place, there's not much selection when you get on up there in size. The selections available may or may not be comfortable or they may not go with your clothes. Try finding a strapless in anything beyond a DD. Or a T back. Or a smooth cup for wearing under T-shirts. And why do they have those flimsy straps on bigger bras? They cause permanent grooves to form in the shoulders. And why are the padded straps so ugly? And you're pretty much stuck wearing underwire.

And what if you did want something in a color other than beige or black or white? Try finding a cute bra in a large size. If you find one, it's probably VERY expensive. And where do companies get off charging $60 for a bra that's going to fall apart anyway???

Did you know that the life span of a bra is supposed to be 3-6 months? (this was actually my job once upon a time). Why would you pay $60 bucks for something that's going to last 3 months? But the more bras you have the longer they last, especially if you don't wear the same one everyday. The sweat and body oils break a bra down (that's what they told me in bra training class ). To make a bra last longer, you're supposed to either hand wash it or put it in the washing machine in a pillowcase or a lingerie bag. This keeps the bra from getting all twisted up in the spinner. It also protects the underwire. If you put your bra in the washing machine by itself you'll warp the underwire and it will dig into your skin and cut you.

And Sports Bras...try finding one that fits anyone who is not a member of the itty bitty t**** committee. Enell - $60. Recommended by Oprah. but you have to special order it and the sizes run weird. It works better than the other options out there, if you have the patience to wait for it. And you can't try it on before purchase... If you can't find a sports bra, you just gotta where two or three to go jogging in.

I agree with Shal. I dispise underwires but the non-underwires just don't feel like they have as much support.

my point exactly!

Actually I have seen them but they dont work the bra just gives way under the wieght... the problem with them is t are just the same design bigger

Exactly exactly!

uh hvent had the problem then again they dont really make that many bras in sizes biigger than a DD or say the most an E , I once went to the specialist lingre shop we have in town and the people ther told me there was no such thing as a size bigger than a DD... eh what? But I have seen Fs with padded cups...why?

Well humm that might explain a lot... Ive never heard thaparicular phrase shal...:D

Hummm have you tried ...I think Doreen bras nonwired and plenty of support problem is you end up with permenant scars on your waist and hips f you wear them all the time. Mind you I havent been able to find that particular model as were of bra with the long waist for a couple of years...

You know what, obviously making bras is the way to make lots of money, never mind uni maybe I should start making nice bras in larger sizes for a living :D :p

what really bugs me are the women that wear the bras that don't fit right, is there anything worse then the bra muffin top?? What's worse is when you happen to look down and realize YOU are sporting the bra muffin top.

I reckon it hasnt really changed much but what do you think? In fact if anything the trying to get bras delimmea is getting worse. But its too early in the morning to rant.:p

I cannot believe what has happened to bras in the last couple of years. Why are they now being made so that they could stand up and walk away by themselves, and why are they so thick you add nine sizes. I am into dance and have to bind so that I don't look ridiculous because I am a fourty incher and quite wide. (I wish they were attached with velcro so I could take these babies off and put them up on the shelf once in a while.I am so weary of them)
So I look and look for one made normally, you know just out of cloth and they cost like a hundred dollars.
So, since I am really into sewing I am designing and making my own, just how I like them and I am going to make them minimizer, soft, pretty and not rubberized so you can pull children down a snowy hill in them when you don't want them anymore.
Oh for the days when I was so small and nothing that people used to say I should wear bandaids. What on earth happened, it must be those swine hormones. :(

Hehe  Velcoro? No imagine when the velcoro starts to wera out oneday you'd bend over and they would just fall off. Cant count the number of times Ive wished that we were more like cats and they only appeared when you needed them for babies then dissapeared again.
The plus side is of course you always have a convient surface for balancing things, although plates of hot food or cups of tea is not a good idea, FYI  :D

My purse is a zebra :D!

BRAS! I am a horseback rider, and while I am a little girl, I have bigger boobies. Sports bras offer me no support, and I`m not sure why- I`ve been fitted for one on a few different occasions, and I think it`s just the build of my ribcage and shoulders. So, I`ll be doing sitting trot or jumping, and my concentration is often broken by how badly my chest hurts from bouncing. I can`t afford to keep buying new bras every time I add five pounds to my frame or take it away (it all goes to or comes from the boobs). What`s a girl to do!

The only thing worse than bra muffin top is the boob hammock- HUGE brassieres with loose shoulder straps that don`t really... DO... anything.

Good points Night! :)

Becca, I can sympathize, have you tried binding yourself like we do for dance when too big. Just fashion a straight bandeau with velcro(that word again) or hook and eye and it just sort of flattens. Or try a minimizer bra, that might help. there really is no solution.
My girlfriend had a breast reduction , she was huga mungo but she nearly died. I mean it. Something happened a reaction to some meds and she developed a horrendous burn all around the breasts. It was horrific. took about a month to come around and start healing Oh she loves it now, but it scared me right out of wanting the same.

so much ado over mammory glands. sigh......

I figure this was the best thing for you to do papaya.

Cause any type of retort would probably give him more gratification; it would show that he has control over your emotions [in this case anger] and it would probably encourage him in future to try it again.

But being calm about it, and saying it plainly as you did, shows him 3 things:
1. that he can't speak to you like that
2. that he can't control your emotions [even though you might be cussin' blue in your mind - like I would be]
3. that if he is to ever try it again, that you will be mature and sensible enough to report him! - which he definitely would not want!

eh, I just told him he can't call me that.
Respect - I would have gone into a fit and made a fool of myself. Or just ignored him for a week, with him not understanding why on earth I would do so. Wonderful how you kept calm and just told him you do not appreciate him calling you that way :) I know that is the mature thing to do, I just never keep my cool long enough to do it. :brickwall.

I have to say though: it is all in the way people say it. I can take a lot of crap (and talk crap back) from the people I work with or study with. I know people who I do not mind calling me honey and I know people whom I would scratch their eyes out if they would. I know that me being inconsistent about that does not really help guys (or girls for that manner) to know what they can and cannot say - but I just do not notice it from the people I accept while I hear alarm bells ringing when people use words like that in a demeaning manner.
I am not making much sense, am I?! :p I think I need coffee :)

e-e-e-e-w! I really like your response.
I have a supervisor (whom I cordially dislike, and whose judgement I truly question) who has called me 'dear' on occasion. It's not a as bad as 'baby' for sure, but I still find it incredibly condescending.

ouch, Papaya, those red pulsating thingeys look painful, like really really raw hemmoroids.

I worked in an office for the MInistry of Social Services once and I happened to start when the really really big macho boss was off for holiday.
I was terribly shy and nervous, all the workers were much older except this one guy and he treated me so properly, he in fact got me the job.
Well Big Boss man came and he was portly and swaggered, can you believe it, he swaggered about and actually had the nerve to light a pipe. I felt like I was choking and he then turned and noticed me.
He waltzed up to my desk and said ' Hey baby, you are new here I see.
And then he proceeded to put his ample behind on the edge of my desk. I turned bright red and I felt like I would be sick. I am terribly shy of strangers and never talk to men type people that I don't know, unless introduced by a friend or such.
'Please move off my desk sir' I said in a wimpy little voice and he laughed.
"Do I bother you hmm, and he leered at me and noone, noone except the nice young man dared to even look our way He came out of his office and tried to get the man to come and talk to him about something or other.
The boss man just ignored him and kept staring at me.
I was sick to my stomach. I so needed the job, but I knew that if I said a word I would be gone.
At lunch break everyone took off and left me sitting there in devestation.
At about five minutes to coming back from break I cleaned out my desk and went home. I was attacked by everyone for being a coward. I did get another job there, but in the field I was best at, working with at risk youngsters.
I can never look back on that without a feeling of shame. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The way you told that story, though, you shouldn't be shameful! That would be hard, perhaps horrific, to put up with every day! And in the "Ministry of Social Services!" Seems like that kind of treatment would be on their hit list, of all ministries! =(

At least you were able to get the kind of job you really wanted! So the story has a happy end, right? =)

I waitressed right out of highschool for a little while in a restaurant that was owned by my friend's family. They had this one uncle, Saleem, who was a huge pervert. One day I was plugging in the vaccuum to clean up at the end of the day, and he came out and stood about two inches away from me. I was so uncomfortable that I blurted out some random facts about electricity in citrus fruit (whenever I'm nervous I blurt out some stupid thing that I learned and thought was interesting). He actually picked up the cord for the vaccuum and said "where should we plug this into you?" My brain was like "He can't possibly be asking me which part of my body I want him to insert the vaccuum cord." I was saved by one of the younger cousins coming out of the kitchen. The way he jumped away from me, I knew that he knew that what he was doing was wrong. One other time he put his finger right on the collar of my shirt and dragged it down between my breasts. I kicked him in the shin, hard. He probably had a huge bruise. He was a pretty creepy guy. I actually feel nauseous when I think of him.

oh that gives me the shivers. I've had similar type experiences though never that bad. I've never had anyone proposition me with a vacuum cord. ewwww. I used to work at a grocery store and had a few customers who thought that they could say pretty much whatever they wanted because they were customers and I was an employee. Had a guy, a customer, a stranger, touch my necklace and I stood there like a dumbarse wanting to RUN but I didn't because I was stuck between two thoughts of "I'm at work" "It's a customer." One of my coworkers told me off later. She said something like I shouldn't have stood there like that and she was right. I had a few greasy old men come up and make comments about my figure. Had another one come up to me while I was adjusting the shelving and I don't know what he said...it was mostly incoherent but I got the idea - it was mostly the gestures that came across. There was another employee (a guy) standing by and he was just in shock at this and didn't know what to do so he laughed in disbelief and I just stood there all blank. :crash:

Just the other day I slapped a guy for misbehaving.

I was walking towards the bus stop and there were people coming from the opposite direction; there was this guy who started walking very fast towards me, as if, I was in his way, even though there was a lot of space on the road where he could walk. He came so close, right on to my face that my reaction was to give him two tight slaps. He kept walking even after that, although I thought he may stop and try to create a scene. If he had done that....he would have had a few more slaps from me.

My friends in the office were advising me not to do it again incase I fall into trouble; what if he comes the next day with more people to harass me, and all that stuff. At that point of time, I did not care about any possible consequences.

Its not that such a thing hasn't happened before, but this guy had come really really close. I haven't taken action in every such case, because its not possible all the time (some guys just harass you and run off), and even if I did try, it would be like slapping two-three guys every day.

Once, I had got down at my bus stop and was walking towards home (it was past 9 in the evening, and I was late from office). There is one stretch on the road that has no streetlights working, so its dark. Two guys on a bike came and one of them slapped my back and they sped away....I was very furious and I couldn't do anything :flare: I was sooooooo mad for the next couple of days....

There are so many other worse incidents... :(

These things really make me think that guys are good for nothing.... cant generalise it though...there might be some decent guys out there...but I have yet to come across one.....

I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel so much hatred that I can't stand it. I tried to take a woman's studies class at school, but being presented with so many cases of disgusting things (human trafficking, rape, abuse, ect.) every day made me literally sick. I had to quit. I know this pediatric nurse, and she says that every couple of weeks they get a little baby in that's been abused. Saying that someone's "been abused" takes the horror away from what happened to them: they were ripped right open, and they had semen in their lungs. There are A LOT of dark, evil things out there that suck the beauty right out of the world. Its overwhelming.

My marriage anniversary is on Tuesday - I'm sitting here trying to think of something to do for it. I've never really been one for all the traditional stuff so I don't know if this is the paper anniversary or the silver one or what. I didn't even have a wedding so I don't even care. I was just trying to think of something fun to do or something to get for him. He asked me if we could go on a date last night. It was not for our anniversary because he had completely forgotten about that. But, we haven't been doing much date or activitywise for the duration of our marriage so this past December we went out on a Friday and went to a concert. There was a Christmas parade that night and Ice Skating at the square in the middle of town and they had hot dog stands and funnel cakes and it was like a small town Christmas and it was fun. We ate burgers in the park where the homeless usually are and it was quaint. So, he was wanting a repeat of that night. And I am thinking nights like that can't be repeated at will, so I was just trying to think of something new to do.

I'm going to be like Virgil here...I've gotta chime in and say, JW...you hit the wrong target! I've always been a little too shy to say even the respectful things to women, but I could never imagine saying something disrespectful. ...and to TOUCH...that was never something that I did until my WIFE said it was fine. (yeah...I'm old fashioned!!) There are only two girls that I have ever called 'Baby'...one is 5 (and tells me that she's not a baby...at which I tell her that she will always be my baby) and the other is almost 3....and she just giggles because she's getting attention).

But the problem is....that too many 'girls' (and I say girls, because they are often acting like teenage girls)...just giggle because some creep of a guy is giving them attention. If it didn't work for them...they wouldn't do it. The 'nice' guys never get anywhere........and yet they continue to be nice anyway. :) I'm trying to teach my girls how a lady is to be treated by a man. I hope that they will understand, and expect nothing less.

I'd better just take my coffee to go...I don't want to wear out any welcome that I might have.

I was watching TV tonight with 2 of my (male) roommates. They put a terrible program on: Take Me Out. It is a dating program - taking it low as one might go. Or well... I bet they can go lower but that would mean going underneath the plumbing system!

The idea is this: take 30 women and one (male) presenter. These women are there to criticize one man - he's standing in front of them. There are 3 rounds:
1 - Looks
The guy says his name, age and where he's from. The women now get 5 seconds to either approve or disapprove. If they disapprove, it means they're out of the game. I have let my roommates tell me that of the 30 women usually about 20 are gone at the end of this round. Sometimes all women bail out! This means, the guy is send home and the next one can be brought in...
Imagine: you're a guy, standing in front of 30 women and only on your appearance 20 of them push a red button which makes an annoying noise and shows everybody that you're not good enough in their eyes. You have to be quite a man to be able to take that!
2 - Own presentation
The guy presents himself in 30 seconds. Either a home-video or a show on the spot... during this presentation, the women can still hit that button to disapprove.
Imagine: you're a guy and you tell that you like romantic dinners with candle light. In the episode I was watching, 5 girls disapproved - leaving 2 girls...
3 - Presentation by mother/friend
A 30 seconds video, shot by the mother or a friend of the guy.
END
If in the end there is a girl left who approves (yes, this does happen sometimes), they can leave the studio to go on a date. The show will not follow up on this. If more than one girl is left, the boy gets his pick - he may ask only one question. Usually though, there are no girls left...

Now I was commenting on this program and forcing my roommates to switch channels. I thought it was degrading, but in their opinion any guy who dared to stand up there was a "champ" and needed cheering, even if he could not hear it :p Yeah, my roommates are sweethearts ;)
They also mentioned something else, which got me thinking. They said that this program could never have been made the other way around. Letting a girl enter and be judged by 30 guys?! That would have really made the papers - people would call about women discrimination etc. Even though the girl would stand there out of her own free will, just as the guys are now.

I feel like they might be right. Not now anymore, as the program already exists in this format so it can not be called discrimination anymore to switch the places. But I am pretty sure people might have looked at it that way if a group of guys was criticising a girl...
We do have an other program though, called "Pretty Smart". In this program 3 teams of 2 girls answer questions like "How long did the 100yrs war last" and "Where was the Vietnam War fought". 3 Teams of 2 guys have to guess which answer the girls are gonna give... I do not think anybody has called it offensive so far. I would like to see that program the other way around too, but I do not think that will ever happen... Or a "Beauty and the Nerd" with girls as Nerds and guys as Beauties...

A couple of things, I almost hit a guy in the street this morning. There I am walking back from the shop smiling in aticipation to myself ( about? for? yo grammar police!!)) my home made hommous . The street is deserted, right , except for me and this guy walking towards me and suddenly jsut as he walks past me he does this slight lean towards me sniffs and goes no english equivlent its a muslim thing to say mashallah sort of God does goood work type thing.
so he leans over sniffs and goes Masallah Niiiiiiiiiiiice.
I was stunned. I mean who goes round sniffing people? but I am most proud of the fact I did not wack him upside the head as my flatmate puts it. I kept walking and breathing.
( and my hommous was very nice! except it wasnt hoummus it was baba Ganoush- aubergine and tahini dip)

second thing a question. My flat mate sort of conned me into ironing her ball gown this evening - nightmare task, and when I (after an hour) finally concluded that flat ironing it just wasnt going to work she was going to apply direct hottest temperature iron ( luckily i stopped her an dsaved the dress) but in the end I ended up rubbing the dress after she was weraing it and pointing a hairdrier at it to smooth out the wrinkles.

Now I can iron most things but what the hell are you *supposed* to do with slinky ball dress things?

wow, I missed buckets.
This thing about walking down streets and guys saying stuff. I have two minds about it. Men are more direct in some ways, though lately what I hear girls say to guys on the street is ....rather shocking to me anyway.
But I digress. I have noticed that some guys merely say something because it is how they feel at that moment and they mean absolutely no harm, and others..........well.
I used to, being a shy person, get freaked out when I would be thinking my own thought and pass by a guy who would say 'hello pretty girl, or hello beautiful.' But that is all they meant and they were not trying to be anything. And I remember a little while ago, stanind outside a restaurant with a friend and there was a huge cluster of tourists from Denmark I think, guys and girls about twenty fiveish. They were dressed ultra cool and all were so much taller than me, I felt like I was a Liliputian.
Suddenly one of the guys looked over at me , disengaged himself from the group and ran over to me.
I love you he said and took my hand, and then ran back to his group. I just smiled, what else can you do. He did not mean any harm.
And once, at a rock concert, this kid, this little boy with moussed blonde hair turned to me and just at the break , asked me if after I would like to go for a coffee with him.
I said' um, I am older than you, quite a bit, and he said ' what has that to do with it and his little friend, said' what are you doin man and the boy ignored him. My girlfriend was laughing so hard and I asked her to knock it off. He just shared his feelings and if I were a fifteen year old girl I would have died rather than do that.
So, something inside them seems to leap out now and then in a poetic way. The other guys well, if they could grab you off the street and do you harm just for the thrill of humiliating you, they would.
So it is kind of fifty fifty and it is hard to understand guys, really , I can't. Maybe it is the day and age we live in. Maybe if it was in the time of Romeo and Juliette all the strange things guys come up with would have been thought romantic. But with guys the way they seem to be now, I can't guess what is going on in their little heads.
And Bienvenue, are there actually many nice guys around?, I wish there were.
When I was still in high school I had many friends, just guy friends, by choice and I told them from the start I would never be intimate, that is not me. And they were just my really good friends and so interesting and fun.
Where are the guys lilke that now, that you can hang with and .....Now I feel sad. sniff.

LostPrincess that is too funny, go join the Amish! Man I love their furniture and quilts, I could spend all day looking at their stuff and buy it all. The best craftsmanship I have come across.
I happen to be someone who is in the dance with all its frills and delicate femininity and also loves technology and computers. I love to know how things work and my brother Asher and I have done a few computer programmes together, it was such fun.
I can fix just about anything that can go wrong except an attack by a worm or trojan, which has happened once, swine computer hackers!!!

I sometimes put (clear) nail hardener on mine. But I am afraid that's more to make them shine than to make them stronger. The extra "coating" does make it possible to keep them OK when they're longer. Or at least I think so.

Although truthfully I dont wear much jewlery, i have an allergy to most forms of silver, only kind Ive found that is ok is mexican grade silver. and I only wear a ring on a regular basis.
I do like costume jewlery though, the more bizzare the better, although not chunky. pendants are good.

Last summer, I donated my hair and sent it off to them because they are the only charity that does not charge the patients for the wigs (as far as I could see) and they did not refuse my hair because it came from another country.

Those are all lovely Nightshade. I think it would depend on the outfit and the occasion and the mood you're in.
National Geographic and Novica put out a line of beautiful, unique, handmade jewlery.
http://jewelry.novica.com/ I think the hunger site also sells some of the national geographic jewlery. Some of it gets a bit pricy but these really are artful pieces

Oh I just love this http://jewelry.novica.com/pendantspendant-silver-daffodil/157227/
but I know just by looking at it I come out in hives if I wore it *sigh*

Ohh or this one http://www.kimandmaki.com/product.asp?lt=c&catid=7451&pfid=KAM00333
costs waaaaaaaay too much but its called nightshade and has a recipie for brownies on it? How awesome is that?!
I love things that aren't what they appear  :D

That's really cool Nightshade!!

Some jewlery look better as art pieces. But if you wore something really simple you could get away with some elaborate jewlery pieces. It's awful when you see people wear the obnoxious combination of loud outfits and elaborate jewlery. Some of the really old disgustingly wealthy ladies who live around here wear sequined outfits with HUGE rings and earrings and necklaces.

I totally dig this bracelet (but not for that price!!) http://shop.thehungersite.com/store/item.do?itemId=37080&siteId=220&sourceId=2165&sourceClass=Category&index=9
