Tangled hair is an issue with me, too, these days! I used to have that all the time when I was a kid It stopped, but now these past couple of months have been ridiculous. My hair is actually fine when I have it down (unless it is windy - then it slightly tangles). The tangling issue is when I was my hair. I always comb my hair out before I wash it. Then, while washing, it tangles up. So that fact doesn't help with the falling out fact at all. :( I tried to use one of those de-tangling shampoos. That almost helped to tangle it more. I guess I am just hopeless. :)
My hair stopped getting tangled when I wash it when I started to use conditioner. My biggest problem with washing my hair is the fact that having a really dry skin means that my scalp is always very dry and hurts after I wash my hair. The bright side is that my hair stays clean very long and I only have to wash it once a week.

ti always grows back...although sometimes that is a very long and painful process...but still, it grows back. ;) :p :lol:Thanks for the encouragement, I guess? :p
So, not only are you giving your hair, you're gaining a pretty darn good look.Getting a free hair cut is not my priority really and I won't be getting one anyway as I am sending it from the UK to the US (found out that in the UK there isn't a place as such where you can donate your hair to).
It is just something I really want to do... more than simply donating couple of pounds a month.
...or having your hair cut short helps control the evil split ends... Thanks for the encouraging words, Night. I don't have split ends and I don't want it to get any thicker as I often look like I am carrying two heads already but your sister might be right; couple of people I have talked to said it is easier to dab some gel etc on the short hair and keep it under control.
We will find out, won't we? :D
My hairdresser thinks I should wait for another month or two to get it a little bit longer so that I won't look like a toddler who had his first hair cut but it is beginning to annoy me because I end up putting into a messy bun and that gives me a headache after a while.

I don't know what you're talking about, for free hair cut. I was just saying that it's good because not only are you donating your hair to a very good cause, but you're getting a change of style. It's a win-win situation. :*

Hey ladies, since most of your are in or have passed your teen years perhaps you can help me. I've been trying to get rid of these annoying blackheads that always show up in the corners of my mouth. I tried popping them out (gross I know) but that didn't work. Then I used about three products designed to get rid of them, acne meds and a facial mask. And while now the rest of my face is smooth and soft and my skin is almost flawless: they're still there!
What should I do?
Please help, I'll owe you forever! :bawling:

I think acne and blackheads don't go away till you're 20 something, Baki. Still, my only advice (and the only thing I did) is to see someone about them. Go to a doctor, and he'll give you a proper solution for them. If they didn't go away by normal means, then you need a pro opinion.

Maybe you can get a professional opinion as to what you should put on these blackheads, as long as the rest of your face is okay. And trust me, it gets better. It might bother you for a year or two, but once you hit 17-18 it's gonna get better without you doing a thing about it. But I still recommend a doctor's opinion, since you already tried many things, both natural and chemical, and none of them worked.

My guess is that the little beads are apt to fall off if you put it in the washing machine.
Handwashing works okay. I usually just put the garment in the tub with some clothes detergent and let it soak for a few hours. Then I rinse it and let it dry on the rack, and I guess it gets clean enough for me. The next time I put it on, it doesn't smell any different than the clothes I put in the washer, so I guess soaking it is good enough if you do it long enough. Since this is method of clothes washing is a real pain in the *** for me, I try not to buy things that have to be handwashed.

If your machine does not have that setting, maybe you can put your blouse into a pillow case and wash it like that in the gentle cycle. The pillow case protects the beads and such.
I use the pillow case to clean my trainers in the washing machine too! :p

The problem is the colour... I cant really tell .
But I have ISSUES that Im not going to bore people with other than to comment Im fairly sure that most bras are either designed by men with no common sense what so ever or people with breasts so small that they never realise that the main point of a bra is support not how aestheticly pleasing they are to the eye... Last year I was wondering around a bra shop and saw that some brightspark thought you could have H cup bra with tiny ribbon straps, now think about that logically for a minute, and I actually know a case of this happening with a brand new bra wit a girl in the larger sizes, that is NOT going to work either you end up with cuts on your shoulders from the straps.... or and this is what happened to the poor person ... you bend over the bra snaps and you end up with half your bra falling out in public.... mortification.
On other bra related matters.... apparantly underwire bras can badly damage breasts in early teens... apparntly you supposed to buy them flexi bras... or nonwired, which for some reason are almost impossible to buy nowadays in the really small sizes. :eek2:

Oh, I have so many complaints about bras that I don't even know where to start.
In the first place, there's not much selection when you get on up there in size. The selections available may or may not be comfortable or they may not go with your clothes. Try finding a strapless in anything beyond a DD. Or a T back. Or a smooth cup for wearing under T-shirts. And why do they have those flimsy straps on bigger bras? They cause permanent grooves to form in the shoulders. And why are the padded straps so ugly? And you're pretty much stuck wearing underwire.
And what if you did want something in a color other than beige or black or white? Try finding a cute bra in a large size. If you find one, it's probably VERY expensive. And where do companies get off charging $60 for a bra that's going to fall apart anyway???
Did you know that the life span of a bra is supposed to be 3-6 months? (this was actually my job once upon a time). Why would you pay $60 bucks for something that's going to last 3 months? But the more bras you have the longer they last, especially if you don't wear the same one everyday. The sweat and body oils break a bra down (that's what they told me in bra training class ). To make a bra last longer, you're supposed to either hand wash it or put it in the washing machine in a pillowcase or a lingerie bag. This keeps the bra from getting all twisted up in the spinner. It also protects the underwire. If you put your bra in the washing machine by itself you'll warp the underwire and it will dig into your skin and cut you.
And Sports Bras...try finding one that fits anyone who is not a member of the itty bitty t**** committee. Enell - $60. Recommended by Oprah. but you have to special order it and the sizes run weird. It works better than the other options out there, if you have the patience to wait for it. And you can't try it on before purchase... If you can't find a sports bra, you just gotta where two or three to go jogging in.

uh hvent had the problem then again they dont really make that many bras in sizes biigger than a DD or say the most an E , I once went to the specialist lingre shop we have in town and the people ther told me there was no such thing as a size bigger than a DD... eh what? But I have seen Fs with padded cups...why?

I have to confess I'm probably one of those women... BUT IT'S NOT MY FAULT! What can I do when it's almost impossible to find a bra that really fits? At least one that doesn't cost too much for a poor student. :flare:
I own many bras, but only one pair that really fits. (It's size 70D) I have a couple of 70C:s that are OK, but really, I have only about two or three pairs I can wear and be sure that they'll stay in their place. I know it's not good to be always tugging at your underwear, but I guess it's better than letting your bra wander wherever it wants to...
The problem is that for some reason when your cupsize goes up to C, the size scales seems to start from 75, which is too much for me. If I try to wear a 75 bra, the back won't stay in it's place, and when the back part rises up, you can guess what happens to the front part... They say that you should never buy a bra that you can wear in it's tightest setting to begin with, because it will stretch within time and then you'll need to be able to tighten it. But what can I do? Even size 70 is sometimes too large, and when it's almost impossible to find size 70C not to mention 70D, have you ever seen a 65D?
I know I'm not alone with this problem (being a small girl with a bit large breasts for your size), so WHY can't they manufacture bras that fit and offer enough support? I could never use a non-underwired bra, I've tried some, but it's too painful. Even now I often have to cross my arms under my breasts when I walk the stairs, because otherwise it'll hurt too much...

Anywho, my mum found it funny that I of course wanted pretty bras when I couldn't have them because of the size I needed, but when I was smaller I refused to wear anything other than white because "No one is going to see it and its really stupid wearing a colourful patterned one!!" My aunt had one recently also. I was talking to a plastic surgeons office about another procedure (for someone else) and my question was whether or not it could be covered by insurance. She said no, and then she went on to say that insurance does not even cover breast reductions (augmentations).
the procedure I was asking about was someone who had been terribly obese and had loose skin as a result... Insurance won't cover the plastic surgery needed to get rid of that loose ropey skin.
But, I have heard of someone (my mom knew her) who had been to a psychologist over body image issues and was able to get breast surgery with a referrel from the psychologist, and insurance covered it. So, if that person was able to get at least part of it paid for through her normal health insurance (that she pays premiums on anyway), why couldn't someone who needs a breast reduction get the procedure and have their insurance cover it? It's not cosmetic and it's not a self-esteem issue. It's a physical pain issue. I am sick of insurance here. Something is wrong.
One of my best friends wears a 32 Double D. She's a tiny little thing with very large breasts, and I know she has a really hard time finding bras with a small enough band.
I don't have that problem. Mostly I can't find bras small enough for me that aren't in the childrens' section :bawling:
If you happen to be someone who wears a 32DD for example, you have to go to an upscale department store, because Wal-Mart and Target and even JC Penney don't seem to carry those sizes. They might start at band size 34, and then good luck finding the cup size you need. And it's the same story for larger sizes as well. Cup sizes don't go beyond a DD.
Dillards is the best department store (here anyway) for finding bras in the right size. They're selection is okay. Mainly they just have the standard back hook seamed bra in a good selection of colors.

 I believe that you can get breast reductions done the NHS, if either they are deemed health risk or you can get a psychologist's referral. But they wont do them until the girl is 21 at the very earliest. I know a 12 year old who wears a size DD but she has to wait untl shes 21 to get the breast reduction done because she is still growing... but by hat time she will already have back problems...

nursing bras come in J cups and they are very supportive, but not sexy.
here's a website and some of these are kind of pretty
sizes here http://www.motherwear.com/cs/brachart.cfm
styles here http://www.motherwear.com/cat.cfm/cid/50/va/1
I’ve seen breast reduction that turned out beautiful, but I also know three different women who regret the surgery because of the terrible shape they were left with. I’ve considered reduction since I was in the eighth grade, but wanted to wait until I was done nursing babies. It can be detrimental to breastfeeding. They have to remove the nipple and resize it for the smaller breast. It was harder to be busty in school than it is now for some reason. As for back pain, I would recommend back strengthening exercises to see if that will help. It helped me.

so what is te 70 ? because most of our sizes are un the 30s
70 centimetres. We use SI-units here :)
i was thinking millimeteres. then i had a good laugh at myself. :)
Well I'd be awfully skinny if it was millimetres
a 32 D.. I can see your problem the general assumption being anyone over a c cup must at leastbe a little fat
Yeah, and that's just ridiculous! I mean, when the size is 70, C cup isn't even that big. It's exactly the same than 75B or 80A, which are completely normal sizes! It just means that the cup is bigger when you compare it to the band. An 80C is much bigger than a 70C.
Gosh... that poor girls back, Did you know that very large breasts ( Im talking Fs and G+s here ) are know to contribute to chronic back pain, and that doctrs actually advise breast reductions?
I'm glad I my breasts aren't that large, they're really problematic enough as it is

Can someone tell me a home remedy for doing a pedicure? My feet are ugly and I am too shy to show to anybody; besides I feel awkward if someone touches my feet.

Can someone tell me a home remedy for doing a pedicure? My feet are ugly and I am too shy to show to anybody; besides I feel awkward if someone touches my feet.
(this is how I take care of my feet --- I've had a professional pedicure twice in my life and this person used cuticle nippers for skin stuff around my toenails, but I don't have much of a problem with that, so I don't do it at home)
Supplies Needed:
1) baby oil (or some other kind of oil)
2) toenail clippers or scissors
3) foot file or pumice stone
4) soap
5) vicks vapo-rub
6) socks
7) base coat nail polish
8) nail polish (color of your choice)
9) top coat
10) Rapid Dry spray nail polish dryer
11) Toe Separators (tissue works too)
12) Nail File
Fill your tub up with hot sudsy water (or at least enough to soak your feet in) and add baby oil (or other oil of your choice - lately I've been using Skin So Soft because someone gave me some). Soak your feet for a while (as long you feel necessary). This softens and conditions the skin and the toe nails.
After you've soaked your feet in the hot water, you can use a foot file or pumice stone to rub any hard calloused skin off the bottom of your feet. This would also be a good time to clip and file (shape) your toe nails because they'll be softer from the hot water and oil.
After you've clipped and filed your toe nails, you can dry your feet with a towel and they should be soft and conditioned from the hot water and oil.
Put the toe separators between each toe, and apply the clear base coat to your toes. Let it dry. Then apply the colored nail polish and allow it to dry suffiently. Then apply the clear top coat, which should preserve your polish and keep it from chipping off for a few days longer. Then I like to use the rapid dry polish spray after all the coats have been applied. This drys the paint faster and helps with smudging etc...
If you've gotten any nail polish on your toes, you can dip a wood cutilcle stick in nail polish remover, and use that to remove any spots of polish.
At this point you should be done with a home pedicure sans cutilcle nipping (I've heard it's best to leave that to the professionals).
You're probably wondering what the vicks vapo rub and socks are for. Vicks Vapo Rub is a home remedy for toe nail fungus. I don't have toe nail fungus, but I smear it on my toe nails and feet occasionally before bed. I put some socks on to keep that stuff from getting all over the sheets. I'm convinced it keeps any fungi at bay (especially when I went to the salon for my pedicure --- I'm so afraid of those tubs. I just know there are fungi in the water jets). Even if it doesn't do anything for toe nail fungus, it does soften my feet without use of the pumice stone every few days. Someone at work rubs vasoline on her feet and covers them with socks before bed. Burts Bees sells this awesome smelling coconut foot cream and socks, and I've used it before. It smells much better than Vicks Vapo Rub or Vaseline, but it softens about the same.

Well, Madhuri was asking and I was just telling her my quick fix for it. I don't know where you live, but it's still warm enough here to show my toes, and I think it's probably warm enough where Madhuri lives too, so it's okay to take care of your feet even after Labor Day :D

HUmm I might have to try this, my sister is at college doing beauty therpy and her pedicurexam is coming up, but she wont practice because she hates it..she gave me a nice manicure though.
But changing the subject again, to one that might be ther icky to some... but its not exactly like I can go around asking people in RL, for some reason, you knowhow you have reusable nappies for babies? Are there any such things as reusable period pads?
Well actually I know there are some reusable scary looking cup things ... they had some things at Freshers fair, and there was aguy who tried to grab one becuse he thought it was a 'freebie' which it wast and then was annoyed whan the woman on the stall said he wouldnt need one but went absaloutly green when she told him what it was.
But maybe what I mean is - are they any good?

Apparently they aren't that good, the cup requires a lot of cleaning (obviously) and when you take it out you pretty much spill it most of the time, then if you are out and need to empty it....well, messy!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cup - some info here.
Or else they do have reusable cloth pads which (if you don't mind washing) are good : )

There is no way Id use the diva thing tampons are scary and painfull enough plus they always so helpfully provide you with reading material telling you you might die if you use them. But as my sister says I could just as easily be hit by a bus, in fact that is probably more likly all things concidered.

I use old diaper changing pads as a bottom layer then add flannel as absorbent layers. Sometimes I use fleece as a top layer and sometimes just flannel. I just serge or zigzag around the edges real good. The diaper pad is water proof. They don’t shift around in my panties. I can make them as big or as small, as heavy or as light as I need. I wash them out in the shower and then keep them in a pail till the end and wash them all at once. I don’t worry about stains- they’re just pads. They are soft and comfortable and cheap. Also, they are good for the environment.
There are a million ways to make them and patters free on line. I just traced around a regular pad and then changed it a bit to be just right for me. You can make a several in no time at all.

I was always a very regular girl. You could time my cycles to the day and now it seems I'm having a period ever two or three weeks. If tampons are inserted properly they shouldn't hurt. The key is practicing to find that good spot, following the directions should help.

I had a similar problem when i got the Implanton in my arm. I more of less had to where a pad everyday for five months. (most days it was just the tiny panty liners but still...)
Stress can do that to your cycle. So could not eating properly, not having regular sleeping patterns.
Theres no harm going to a Well Woman or other place like a GP to inquire.

I likely should. I'm still trying to give calming down a chance. Unfortunatly, I'm beginning to see that my stress level isn't really decreasing with Tom home. I figure if all is still crasy in 6 months or so I'll think of going. Right now it is more or less just not know when I'll have a period. This time I seem to be having the normal 28 day cycle (knock on wood) but the last two months I had something like four periods in that time. So, hopefully, all is starting to settle.

I guess since we're still talking periods I'll throw my two cents in about the whole thing. Well, actually I'd like to go back to the whole feminine products thing. I buy my stuff in bulk because I loathe shopping for those stupid things. The only problem is that the place I buy them from doesn't provide bags so you're stuck carrying your big giant box of girl stuff out to the car sans bag.
One time, I went shopping there with him and he was in a huge rush to get out of there while I was in my female shopping stupor. There I am wandering slowly around not paying attention to anyone around me, gazing at anything and everything whether I needed to buy it or not and he's urging me along. Finally he goes off with the shopping cart and apparently he heard that we were finished shopping even though I said no such thing, and he goes through the line and pays for everything.
The only problem is that we never did go by the feminine hygeine aisle. So, I send him back in alone since he rushed on out, and he had to buy them all by himself without a bag. And this place checks your receipt at the door, and there he is with feminine hygeine products and no bag.
He gets back in the car and tells me that the receipt checker, who was some goofy old man, made some comment about how he had to buy the tampons, ha ha ha.

are you kidding me? Those are awesome. I've been wanting a pair of cowboy boots for so long. But they can't be just any old cowboy boots. They can't be Dolly Parton or Pam Tillis cowgirl boots. They need to be cowboy boots with some interesting pattern on them, and those are almost what I have in mind. I'm not sure that a cartoon is quite what I had in mind, but it's close. What I'd want would have to be something strange to see on a pair of cowgirl boots. Like, varsity plaid or something. Maybe teal and magenta...hmmm. If anyone knows where I can purchase such a pair, point me towards them. I don't know if I'd pay 1350.00 for a pair, but at least let me consider them.

Holy Crap!!! I have a huge zit on my cheek, It's about the size New Hampshire. It's taking all my willpower not to try and pop it.
Last Monday I woke up with one on my forehead. It was GIANT and it was painful and popping it wasn't even an option because it was painful too, and popping it would have only made it redder. And, not only was it giant, but it was huge underneath and beyond the red raised part of it, if you know what I mean. It was gross.
Are zits contagious? The reason I ask is because I went on a weekend trip before that Monday with my family, and my brother had slept on the pillows I used the night before. (It was a two bedroom deal, and I only arrived on Saturday night, instead of Friday night, so my brother had to go sleep on the sofa sleeper). He's seventeen and he gets zits regularly, so I am wondering if by sleeping on his pillow case I somehow contracted the giant zit...
It's not like I don't get zits anymore because I do, but the size of this thing was just crazy...It was not your usual everyday zit.

love the zit-talk, girls.
got a really big zit myself a few months back. nasty!!! i was just thankful it was by the hairline so I just changed the way i part my hair to hide it. It was huge for days (about the size of my thumbnail when I don't grow my nails) and was so painful when I smiled. (what a headache!)
I happened to take a trip to the dental chair then and the dentist, who had to get at an angle to work on my teeth, rested her arm on my head--and on top of my zit--for like, twenty minutes. hellishly painful, really. I almost didn't notice the drills.
it popped about three days later, on its own. (that's not to say I stopped touching it.) it had three eyes in the pus, and I was like, oh, that's why it's so big!
it scarred. about two weeks later the zit scar became a zit again, but it was not as bad as the first time.
what a persistent zit!

Proactive does work; my brother used it, and it worked for him. It tries to contain the sebum production and that helps in reducing the pimples/acne.

I use Seabreeze in the morning and Noxema at night and then I use acne cream at both morning and night to fix those special spots that need extra work.
I have basically no acne. And apparently it makes my face skin really soft.

Did you have acne before? My son who is 16 has a really bad case. We are going to see a dermatologist. He's had some amazingly huge ones. He had one just inside his nose that actually distended his nostril. He'll call me in and announce a new one in this really deadpan voice and then we just gaze at it.
Does the lye really work? Or the noxema?

I am incredibly lucky in that I very rarley get any spots on my face, instead 90% of my zits turn up on my scalp which is good but also means that occasionally they burst when Im brushing my hair ( just after Ive had a shower ) which means I have to wash my hair again, and this always seems to happen when Im in a rush.
tea tree oil is magic stuff though, except it cause things to burst on their own in the night.

Does the lye really work?
I never tried that, but years ago I went to this reenactment. I was looking at this woman's lye soap that she made. She told me that one of the benefits to using lye soap is that it clears acne. I didn't feel like trying that, though. :)
Or the noxema?
I have used Noxzema since I was a kid. I never washed my face with it, though. Instead, if I see that I am starting to get a pimple, I put Noxzema on that spot before it gets worse. I leave it on overnight and then just wash it off in the morning. Depending on how bad the pimple might be, it might take a couple of extra nights to clear up, but that just means that I would have to put Noxzema on at night again. It does seem to help. In your son's case, I don't know. Maybe, if nothing else, for the time being Noxzema may ease it up a little bit. My skin is normal-dry-oily based on what part of my face that I'm dealing with. My nose is the oily part. That seemed to start recently. So, that is where I have the most problem. My skin is also very sensitive. Using cleansers and other acne medicine, thus far, has been quite pointless for me. I tend to break-out using products for break-outs. Noxzema has been the only thing to help me.
Ive got gaping pores thugh which Im not sure how to get rid of.
Have you ever used one of those mud masks, or something similar? I use a different type of mask every few days, and I also use a scrub every few days when I wash my face. That seemed to help me. Whenever I got into a phase where I was too tired to bother with a mask, my pores seemed to get bigger. When I would start to get back into the swing of things again with the masks, that would always help. For me, though, I have to make sure that I am faithful with the masks or my skin ends up the same way it was before pretty fast.

It's one of the few things that seems to do the job for me.
I usually use the cleanser from the Body Shop with tea tree oil, but I tend to change products quite often (finish one bottle, then get something else) because I get the feeling that my skin gets 'used' to the same thing (it might well be my imagination).
As for pores...there's nothing much else to do than to keep your skin clean and do weekly scrubs/masks. Oh, and choose your make-up really well, like a really light based one which won't react too much with your skin.
Those pore strips never worked for me :(

I've used it myself and I have friends and family who used it and we all found the same thing- it works really really well for the first while and then stops working. I find that I break out really badly when I'm on my period as well, and it couldn't stop those breakouts. Oh, and don't let it get on your clothing/towels because it bleaches.
Tea tree oil is amazing. Lush makes a product called Tea Tree Water, which is a tea tree based toner. It's awesome, and not as concentrated as tea tree oil on its own.
I've had acne for years, and it's not the worst case of seen, just enough to be a big pain in my @$$ and make me self-conscious about it. I've tried a ton of different stuff- cleansers and pads and strips and pro-active. I find what's working the best is products from Lush, which is a company that makes fresh, handmade cosmetics. They're made of fruits and vegetables and natural oils and all good stuff that is so fresh it comes with an expiry date. I swear by their stuff- all my cosmetics and bath products are being switched to Lush products.
Oh, and for those who were asking, it is bad to pop zits because while it does push everything out of the pore, it spreads the bacteria to the surrounding pores which in turn makes things worse. It's a big problem for me because I have busy hands and I'm always touching something and if I'm bored or stressed, I touch my face more. It's just all around bad. I can't resist popping though.

I use a clay mask on my face on a weekly basis. I think it's beneficial. Interestingly enough I used Noxema when I was younger. I didn't wash with it, but I used it for a moisturizer. I found it worked really well, and my skin was fairly clear at that point. Maybe it helped.

I got my eyebrows waxed yesterday. I've probably asked this before, and I've probably been told, but does waxing eventually lead to diminished hairgrowth? Because I don't want to be one of those little old ladies who has no eyebrows. But, I have a feeling that no matter what I do, I'm going to have increased hair growth on the upper lip, and diminished growth of the eyebrows and hair on my head. And my nose hair and nose will get larger as will my ears. My eyesight will get worse, and I won't know that I have lipstick on my teeth.
But, I digress.
why do some older women have NO eyebrows? ist it because they overwaxed or got lousy electrolysis or does it just stop growing there on women? Because I've seen some old men with major eyebrows...

home waxing is the worst. If you don't get a good grip on your strip and if you don't rip fast enough, it's the worst pain ever. But at least you get more done with one rip than if you pluck.... I hate plucking. I'd rather someone just wax it for me. And they need to apply pressure to the area right after they rip - it makes it hurt less.

My mother hasn't had eyebrows for years but that is because of her thyroid. Maybe a lot of women have some sort of health issues that caused that to happen to them. Who knows?
My eyebrows are thin but I still need to shape them. I have dark brows. So when the hair grows back, I definitely need to shape them again. Even though they are thin, it still looks silly the other way. I always pluck. I don't have enough hair there to bother with anything like waxing. Plucking works just fine for me. As for hair not coming back, I have noticed that there is a spot where part of the eyebrow didn't come back. Yet, there is another part where the eyebrow looks thicker. So I don't know what would happen with waxing because I am not sure if the plucking has done this to me.

My eyebrows are pretty thick and lusturous:lol:. seriously, my eyebrows are pretty thick. At home I wax above my brow and between them but I save the shaping and under the eyebrow for the professionals.
My mom has really thin eyebrows, they have always been like that so I don't know if it's an age thing. She says she overplucked when she was younger and they never grew back.
She isn't as hairy as I am, I don't think she even shaves her legs - she never has stuble and very rarely do I see a razor around - it's darn annoying why didn't I get those genes??

My mam has never had to shave in her life. she has about two fair hairs on her legs and thats it. I'm like an ape. dark thick hair too. I dont wax.
I have pretty thick brows too, but i pluck. I dont pluck them thin. I still have the natural shape. all i do is pluck the stragglers that make brows look bushy. I like my shape and a lot of people have complemented them. I had threading done one, but i wasnt really happy. The woman who did them told me i needed to grow hair back in one area so she could give me a better shape next time. I cant magicly grow hair where i have a scar going through my eyebrow!!!! eh hello!!

I pluck my eyebrows, not much and not often, but anyway. My brows are rather light (as is the hair on my legs, which is nice, because I don't have to shave them that often even in the summer), so it doesn't matter if I don't pluck them for a couple of weeks. (It also means that I cannot apply mascara unless I use an eyebrow pencil too, because then it would look like I didn't have eyebrows at all. Without eye make-up I look really weird, like if I had neither eyebrows nor eyelashes...) I too like the natural shape of my eyebrows, I only pluck a little bit from under them, you know the stray ones.
The first time I plucked my eyebrows hurt a lot, but after you've plucked once the next times don't hurt half as much. I guess that once you've plucked the hairs don't grow back the same as they were and they are easier to remove.
Niamh
10-24-2008, 05:53 PM
yeah i only pluck the stray ones too. I dont have as many is i once did.
And you are right, the more you pluck, the less you feel it. Mine only hurt if i have accidently pinched my skin, which can happen when you are plucking at 5.15am before going to work and you are still half asleep. :p
lugdunum
10-25-2008, 04:35 PM
I usually get them plucked too.
The thing is, the first time I decided to trim my eyebrows, I asked my sister to do it and she did a terrible job. More specifically, she started plucking the upper part and then realized she'd exagerated. So my eyebrows are not at the same level... :p
Since then I've been going to a professional, but believe it or not, the upper part still hasn't grown back. (it's been almost three years) I don't understand, why is it that the lower ones keep growing back and the upper ones have completely disapeared...
With regards to pain, it's true that the more you do it, the less pain you feel.
However I really recommenda professional cuz they do it so fast that the pain is over in no time. And at the end they give you a little face massage with soothing cream...

Bah..you only make them stronger..i have a phd on plucking eyebrows :D
Hair can be permanently removed only by laser (and not always)..black and thick hair can be more easily removed by laser (and has better results which means you'll get rid of them eventually) than lets say blond and thin. I have asked my dermatologist :D my friend had more that 10 laser sessions (she is of the black and thick type of hair) and the results are really good. It is a bit expensive though.

Hah, I'm an expert on hand problems. I know exactly what it is like when simply washing your hands hurts like hell (and when the skin is in such a bad condition that doing anything hurts, and in fact even with doing nothing at all you're in constant pain).
If your hands are just dry, my advice would apply some oily cream several times a day and perhaps wear gloves so that you won't leave oily fingerprints everywhere. If you have a rash, too, I'd apply some hydrocortisone as well.

I'll tell you what my doctor told me. Mind you i am no doctor myself so i can't verify his information. I trust him though.
Laser is safe but its better not to do it at those parts of the body that have glands (like breasts, armpits etc). Those parts are very sensitive. I don't have a hair problem myself but i'd like to get rid of all the hair i have on my legs (so i can eventually stop using razor and wax, they both drive me crazy  especially during the summer when i have to shave my legs every third day )
..anyways if you decide on using laser go to a doctor (dermatologist). Do not go to one of those beauty salons. Laser is a tool whick is better left to the hands of a doctor ;) (because you can end up having skin burns if the person isn't skilled enough)..and mind you most of the beauty salons (in my country at least) don't have real laser. They have all those tv ads about quick results and painless, which are both lies. Results aren't quick and surelly the whole process isn't painless. Like i said in the post above my best friend is at her tenth session with the said doctor and she assures me that it hurts.

***Okay, I'm going to preface this post with a disclaimer:
I've had a beer or two and I don't have to work tomorrow (Just classes and some accounting adjusting entries --- no biggies). With that being said, here's my post:
Pat Benatar said that Love is a Battlefield, but I say shopping is where the real action takes place. The store is a battlefied. How many times have you been perusing a display or a rack of clothes, only to be interrupted by some woman who comes up and stands in your bubble? She just comes up starts sorting through the clothes or purses that are directly in front of you. She reaches across you and starts sorting through purses. If she bothers to say "excuse me" at all, you know that she doesn't mean it. What she really means is, "Move." Or, "Outta My Biotch." Or simply, "Let's see if I can make you move."
I find it hard to believe that this woman really wants to see the purses or clothes that are in front of me at that very moment. I think it's a power play. I think some women go to stores with the intent of bullying other shoppers by engaging in this behaviour. If you're in a discount store, they push their shopping carts right up to your heels. If you're in a boutique, they're grabbing the clothes off the hangers in front of you. Or, they're grabbing at the itmes you're holding in your hands.
Last night, I went to Target. They had a bunch of racks of clothing on sale. There were cute blouses for $4.98! I got a cute dress for $12!!! Target has cute stuff, but it's kind of trendy, so I don't buy much from Target, but for a discount store, they have a great selection so I was excited to find those awesome sale racks. I wasn't even there for clothes, but I saw 50% off in red and white so I had to check it out.
But, there were other sharks in the water and they swarmed around me, snatching items from my sales rack. Grrr.... One girl came up and starting coughing --- it was the grossest thing. I immediately left the area. Her coughing stopped. That sneaky winch. Great strategy though....

See the mistake you made was not having the beers before you went out shopping:lol::lol:
It is not safe to be around a sale rack especially on your own always always travel in a pack it is much safer that way:p

Hi comradettes! xx
I'm Kandaurov's sister, Gertrudes. He's stopped coming here for several months now (shame on him!) and he told me I could use his account.
Sorry for not creating an account of my own, I'm just terrible with these internets! Don't worry, I'm a girl, and the proof is that I loved the movie Sex and the City (watched it three times already!), I'm always late for every appointment and my boyfriend doesn't understand me.
See you ;) xx

Tee hee, thank you, Niahm, a cup o' tea would be divine. You all had a fantastic Christmas, I'm sure? I had a most delightful time, though my boyfriend got me tickets to Monster Trucks, as you must have understood by now he doesn't understand me. And it seems Linda went on a shopping spree, everyone got an expensive gift from her, you see. Financial crisis, what! Now I'm sure you know I'm not one to gossip, but after having seen her in the mall with such baggy eyes and arched shoulders I’ll set my magnificent yellow curls ablaze if she didn’t work overtime to keep up appearences, poor thing, with her husband drinking and everything, or so Molly said, she has a cousin who’s a bartender, and a cute one at that, and single, God knows why, studying to be a doctor he is, just say the word and I’ll set you up with him!

I got some new jeans. There's a store that's gone out of business here (another victim of the economy) and they've liquidated their inventory so I got a good deal on them. I didn't bother to try them on, because I already have a pair of them. The only difference between them is one pair is straight leg and the other is boot cut.
So I get my new ones home, and put them on and they look good. They're good-butt jeans, as opposed to dump-butt jeans or mom-butt jeans.
But, the zipper is broken and I can't take them back or exchange them because the store closed. It's a fluke thing - it's just the zipper on this one pair. I don't know how to sew that well, so I was wondering if I should take the jeans somewhere to get the zipper replaced...Like, maybe I could take them to a cleaner's - they might be able to do that....any other suggestions? They look really good on except for the broken fly.

As for Shalot's jeans...I don't know if I would trust a cleaner to do repairs...I don't know if cleaners care that much. I've heard horror stories. I would think a tailor should be able to do it, as long as they have heavy enough machinery to work on denim.

And yes, bread is basically a carbs injection (CARBS!) but it's wholegrain, for Thor's sake! This reminds me, I must go jogging tomorrow. Gotta ask Jane to come with me, otherwise I'll just run for 7 minutes and head back to watch Friends. My b/f and my brother Kandaurov say my weight is fine, but they don't understand me.
