But the again, you can read them on your laptop in bed  There's not escape!
It's just that then whole bed, and lamp on the nightstand, and some music from the radio..and maybe a cup of whatever to drink..the whole atmosphere is great..except for the sleeping during reading part of course :lo:

:brow: I remember the last time i seriously wailed crying (east of Eden) my mam came up to see what was going on. She thought i'd gone and had an accident because i was hysterical. She found me sitting on my bed, back against the wall, book in hand sobbing uncontrolably. The only words she got out of me before she laughed was 'Its so sad!'

I just don't show my emotions to my mother, I don't know why. If I am sad or something I just be in my room and come out only when I have regained control. But, sometimes (because most of the time I am successful in hiding my feelings) she does get to know what's going on my mind...I just hate that look on her face..."I know whats on your mind, and you cant dodge this time" or like "I can see through you" I feel as if I am stripped off the emotional layer on me and I am standing all bare  .

^^ Gosh, I SO hear you Madhuri. I'm normaly also in my room in my down times..I NEVER, and I mean NEVER, cry in front of my mother (or anyone else for that matter). The only difference is that, my mother rarely notices that something is wrong...I don't know if it's cuz I'm 'that' good, or maybe she does't pay that much attention..but it's a good thing, I don't like showing my emotions...not that I think it's some sort of weakness, but it's something personal, ya know, something I like keeping for myself.

The last time I openly cried in front of my mother (the last time to date that she's had to comfort me) was shortly after my cat died. If I remember properly (Which I don't really) I started crying but I can't remember what set it off. I think, though I'm probably confusing it with another incident, but I think I might have slipped on the stairs. I can't remember it that clearly but I remember it was on the stairs that she had to hug me because I was crying so much. It wasn't because I was hurt. I loved that cat. He'd have been thirteen last Christmas. That was nearly a year ago now.
Normally I just bottle everything up and it kind of sneaks out sometimes when I'm on my own. It never lasted long. I don't think I've been quite the same since Henry (the cat) died. But if I cry around mum (usually during a sad film or something), I still like to hide it. I guessed I was just strange like that.

Oh goodness. If there's one person I'll cry to, it's my mom. I know she'll just hug me and let me get it out, no matter how much I cry or snot or drool into her shoulder.

I don't like feeling helpless in front of people, I guess, and that's how I feel when I'm trapped in a hug. I want to escape. It's strange because I like hugs. I don't like attention focused on me. So I guess I don't show my emotions.

My mum knows how to turn a computer on but she just doesn't know how to get online . And even if she did, she wouldn't know how to make it work anyway. I've showed her some online puzzles and a puzzle game that I downloaded once. It's just a demo but she likes it. I managed to shift it over to her username too so she doesn't keep bugging me to open it on my username. I regretted it for a while because she'd sit there for ages. But now I sleep in so late that we don't clash anymore :D.

So how is everyone enjoying their time off of school? Hope you are all relaxing and getting lots of reading (and writing -- YAY) done!
I have put off reading Dead Souls (Gogol) long enough, and plan to bite into that book. I have been writing a lot of haiku lately, too. But mainly I have been trying to squeeze extra hours into my days, which is not an easy task, lol! Our family has a wedding in a day from now, and there is lots going on around here! I LOOOOOOOOOVE weddings! Cheers everyone! :)

Well, I'm loving my holiday. It's just like a really really long weekend. Haven't done any reading though even though I've got a whole stack of fantasy books on a chair somewhere that I got a couple of Christmases and birthday's back. I've only read one out of the stack and that prompted mum into getting the second but I've only read a bit of that. It was the first in the Banned and the banished series. Let's see what else I have there. i haven't looked at that chair for a while . There's an old printer and shoe box on top of them so I keep forgetting them.
Wow, they're a bit dusty. I have, from my aunt one Christmas (She has these in her book shelf too, I happen to know) (and this is in they order they're stacked, I know which one really comes first, it says so on the back ) The Amber Spyglass, Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and from my mum one birthday; Fire Music (though it now turns out that this is actually a sequel) and The Heart of Myrial and also there was Wit'ch Fire, which I read and now have the next in the series Wit'ch Storm. I know why my mum picked those three up. They all have dragons on the front or things that look like dragons. This has got me thinking, I really should start reading again. I've been thinking about but haven't been bothered to do it. Now I've got them out, I might as well start.
Thanks for the encouragement Kiz and by the way, weddings are always good the only problem is trying to remember who everyone is and how you know them .
Sorry, I've nattered on too much again :).

I used to work with someone who would eat in her sleep. She would get up in the middle of the night, have a bowl of cereal or whatever and have no memory of it in the morning, the only evidence would be the empty bowl sitting on her night table. She said she once ate an entire jar of pickles in that state and another time she woke up to find an empty jar of peanut butter and a spoon. That would wreck havoc with any kind of diet.

There were a couple of programs about it on awhile ago. It's like an extreme form of sleep walking I think. Can't remember the way they dealt with it though, but somewhere in the UK there's a sleep clinic that deals with those kind of issues, so there must be others elsewhere too, surely.

Cut It!!!!!!!
My hair used to be down to my butt, I spent years growing it out. One day I decided I had had enough of the whole big wavy mess and decided to cut it to a little more then shoulder length. The first three hair dressers wouldn't cut it all the way off, they would only do an inch or two. I was getting frustrated until one day I was at the mall, as I was passing a salon I decided to go in and the hair dresser there did the deed for me. I loved it. :D
I take back my "Cut It!!!!!", do what's right for you.

I agree! Like Niamh, I've cut off my long hair a couple times and I've always regretted it. Although my suggestion would be if you really feel the need to cut it, don't do layers because they are a nightmare to grow out. If you keep the length and just put layers at the end, that's not so bad but if you're going to go short, find a style where you can keep things at one length, that way, if you hate it and want to grow it back out, it won't take as long and it won't be nearly as painful. I went from middle of the back to one of the ugliest short, shag-like haircuts in the world and it took me a good couple of years to grow out all the layers and get it back to the length I wanted it. I could show you pictures but I would never get over the humiliation.

Ban the Mullet!
I second that one. Some bad hairdresser gave me a mullet when I was 9 :(
It was embarrassing. I remember trying to disguise it by putting the short part back in a barrett. And I tried headbands but it wasn't foolin' anyone. I had a mullett (but I guess back then a lot of people had mulletts) and I knew it was a greasy haircut to have
(I hesitate to post here -- everytime I do, I feel like I am that girl at that party that everyone ignores --- I'm just hanging out drinking my punch talking to nobody so somebody better at least agree with me that mulletts are bad, or better yet, tell me about the time you had a mullett)

I had the big mall hair, (there were a few times when my hair couldn't fit in the car, it would hit the ceiling of the car) and I wore cloths with day-glo flourescent colors so I'm really no judge.

And I thought my mum cutting my fringe unevenly was bad.... Actually, I got used to it and I didn't care that much, but on reflection, mum does. Now I've grown out my fringe because I got sick of having to trim the (what I call) Devil horns.
I must admit, I've never seen the appeal of the mullet then again I don't see the appeal of a lot of fashions. I like just being plain old me.

I would have had the mall hair but I wasn't so skilled with the curling iron. And my hair would not hold the poof and I felt so inadequate. Luckily, by the time I got to high school, mall hair was over with and if you ever did see anyone wearing it, they were probably on drugs or something and still listening to winger while most everyone else had moved on to Pearl Jam)

My mum *evil* was the one who cut my hair. but the bangs were worse: imagine extremely curly hair with bangs! Luckily she didn't know what a mullet was!

No offence to the young lady, but you can see that the close crop of the hair was not really that flattering, and my hair just hung (flopped) short to my face, no style at all.... like a bowl was put on my bean and snip snip away....
Once, the hairdresser was smoking, and the ashes of a cigarette that was badly needed to be flicked away, dropped on my neck when he was snipping and I jumped and he cropped away too much above my eyebrows. Oh my word, you really should have seen the mess I was. Grrrrr! Thankfully smoking in the hair salons is a thing of the past...

Well speaking about hair, a couple of years ago I decided to use a highlighter and it rendered my wheat blonde hair with streaks of that platinum blonde look, but it also rendered my hair to be totally impossible to comb out after washing. What a nightmare it was for quite some time. I am now in the process of still growing that out. No more for me. (btw it was a hair dresser who did the job, not some cheap homemade stuff, either!)
UNLESS ... someone can give me a pointer or two as to what went wrong there... So many other girls highlight their hair in the streaks (you know?). Does every one of them pull out half their hair after washing it, or was it just my bad luck?

Could have been worse. You could have gotten some hair frome the front side of your head tangled in a hot curling brush while you were in secondary school and the only way to free your hair was to cut it frm the brush leaving this terrible tuff of hair that stuck up from the side of your head. couldnt even do anything with it, couldnt even use it as a fringe. embarrassing to say the least......

Half my hair falls out when washing anyway. Have very coarse and fragile hair. Happens when you damage your hair which can happen if they used a bleached based probuct to highlight you hair!

Well speaking about hair, a couple of years ago I decided to use a highlighter and it rendered my wheat blonde hair with streaks of that platinum blonde look, but it also rendered my hair to be totally impossible to comb out after washing.
My friend has dark blonde hair and highlights it light blonde in summer. She has never had a problem and thusly I suspect your hairdresser overprocessed your hair. The bleach only needs to stay on a short while if you have lighter hair. You could always ask someone who has nice highlights if she would recommend a salon for you. I know that probably seems weird, but sometimes it is the only way to find out information. :)
We actually call that a bowl cut over here, because you can actually do it by puting a bowl on someones head and cutting around it.
I have heard of bowlcuts. My hair is very fine and snarls easily and when I was about 6 or 7 my mother cut it all off (not using a bowl, but that is what the result looked like) because I used to cry and scream when she tried detangling it. Of course, buying me some hair conditioner might have helped but anyway. I ended up looking like one of those kids on the cans of Campbell's soup.

I like that yellow sweater thing-ma-jig you've got on there Idril (seriously - it reminds me of when I was little)
About blonde highlights kiz, I had mine highlighted for the longest time and didn't have problems combing it out either. I did use shampoos and conditioners that said "For color-treated hair" or "Moisterizing" though --- maybe that helped out a little.
My guess is that Kathy is right and your hair stylist left your foils in too long (or did you get the dreaded cap?). Don't you hate it when you get a bad hairdresser? I strayed from my normal salon and tried to have someone darken my hair because I was sick of the highlights and I ended up with this soupy looking goldish greenish hue :( Then I had to spend big bucks again getting someone to weave lowlights and highlights through it to disguise the poopy color.
Now I am back to my natural color which is real dirty blonde (and I was born with hair as light as Idril's in those photos up there -- why does it have to darken?).
I am considering red hair. I am going to go with a demi-permenant and wear it around until it washes out and see if I like it. I had a semi-permanent red dye job at Christmas that washed out -- it was okay but I did it myself and I think a professional could have selected a more flattering shade perhaps.

07-23-2007, 10:00 PM
Papayahed, Niamh, Kathy and Shalot, you are all probably right on the money. It is likely the hairdresser. And Shalot asked if the 'dreaded cap' was used.... IT WAS!! She used a steel crochet hook and pulled out my hair through those wee holes.... which set off my sneezing reflex (does anyone else have that -- where if your hair is pulled you sneeze??)
So after getting half bald, my hair was brightened, as I thought it would be, my wallet was lighter, and I have to fight with my hair every single time I wash it...
My friend, Billie, works at a corner drugstore, and she wants to get me the home streaking kit (L'oreal, I believe it is), and 'do it proper' (to quote her). I have lost faith in products because my hair is not the best its been...
But thanks all for your input.
Shalot, perhaps, since you did like the red dye you tried, maybe see a professional you trust (ha!) and get something that will last, as you say. It is so much fun getting a new look.
And Idril, you are adorable with either long or short hair. Both pictures are very sweet. :)

I never had that experience where my mother chopped off nearly all my hair, but she did comb it rather harshly, as I remember. :( I have very thin, tangle-succeptible hair and it is not cool. I brush it for a couple minutes a day and use conditioner, but I refuse to do anything else. It may have some tangles in it, but I like it that way. :D
My sympathies to those who actually did get teased by the kiddies in school because of that, though. :(

My mother would comb my hair "briskly" when she was in a bad mood. And I really didn't like to comb my hair much until I was in the fourth or fifth grade maybe. One time I decided it would be a good idea to put baby oil in my hair. That made her really mad. I remember her saying, "You can't go to school like that!" and she vigorously washed my hair with some stinky shampoo. And it still didn't work and I think she called me a dope. And then my teacher asked me what happened to my hair when I got to school. She shouldn't have called me a dope but I shouldn't have done that. Anyone ever cut their own hair?
And I had an aunt who liked to french braid hair but she would pull it so tight that it made my head hurt and I would was one unhappy little girl until I pulled that braid out and then she had the nerve to be offended that I pulled out her braids ("you took out your braid!!" she said, all surprised about it)
Little girls are not dolls and should not be treated as such!

There isn't much going on here. It is warm and sunny so we are planning to do lots of outside things with the kids. I think we are going to go berry picking tomorrow, and then I'm going to make jelly with it. I'm trying to figure out a good way that my son can help me to make it without actually involving him in the use of the stove.
I'm also planning to get my hair cut. Anyone have any good ideas? It is really thick so I'm somewhat limited. You can see what it looks like now in my avatar. It is just long, no layers or anything so something must be done. I just don't know what...

My other complaint is the low cut v-necks they're selling. In fact, that's all they're selling. It's very hard to find something that is suitable to wear to work. But if you want to show half your boobs off then you're all set.

I think that with that low-cut style, they are really trying to get you to buy another item that goes UNDER it, like that layered look? Then they get to sell you two tops, instead of the one! No fair!

Hi girls. I could use a little help. Just how much hair can fall out of your head before you start to have bald spots? I've been shedding lately, there isn't another word for it, but this has been going on for almost a year. Each time I brush my hair, the brush is almost filled again with hair that is coming out. This is on top of what pulls out during the day and when I shower. If anyone knows how to make this stop, please let me know. I had attributed it to being because I was no longer pregnant, but my daughter will be a year old in a week. This hasn't showed any signs of slowing, and I'm worried if it keeps going the I'll have bald spots. My hair is really thick to start, so you don't notice right now, but you can see where hair is regrowing at the base of my neck. It is much shorter than all the rest. Thanks for the help Meg:)

Maybe you're super-stressed? My aunt lost major patches of hair when she was stressed out during college. Maybe you should get a check up? Maybe you're more stressed than you perceive. If it were me and if I were worried about it, I would schedule an appointment with a doctor or call a nurse line maybe.
I have longish hair and I shed a lot as well but your situation sounds a little different. When I wash my hair and I run conditioner through my fingers come out with strands wrapped out them  but I also have thick hair. I mean, I guess hair normally comes out but in your case I would at least give someone a call. Maybe they can give you a check up or maybe you need a good vitamin. I don't know!! Good luck.

i've been shedding for years and i've still got a head of hair! :p
I'm with shalot. Could be caused by stress. But i did once ask one of the teachers in secondary school why our hair falls out sometimes. She told me that it happens to everyone and that its a natural occurance.

Don't worry! It's because of stress. It also happens to me very often. Don't worry, you won't turn bald :) If you think your hair is falling a lot, go to the chemist shop or to the doctor. There are very useful capsules, which you have to put in your hair, to make your hair stronger.
Are you stressed? Maybe you must take some valerian pills o something similar to be relaxed.

Everyone loses hair everyday, but this sounds different. It could be stress or a vitamin deficiency especially if you are nursing. Try taking prenatals. They are great for you skin and nails too....I try everything before going to the doctor...I hate going so I put if off as long a possible.

Personally, I tend to side with those wise girls here who said that it could be stress. But next time you see your doctor, maybe give it a mention? Canna hurt, that's for sure. Those that mentioned taking vitamins -- good advice. Take care, Meg.
And congrats to Nossa on those superb marks! Welcome back Opti! And Granny, good to have you aboard!
Why don't we have some of our delightful tea, ladies? I am all up for pouring some of that strawberry kiwi stuff that is over there in the corner! Anyone have some yummy baking to throw into the bargain? ;)

I'm always amazed at how much hair my wife sheds, same thing, the shower and hair brush. She's got a thick head of hair and there is no sign of bald spots or thinning. I've mentioned it to hwr and she says its normal. Meg, I get the feeling what your describing is different. In our newspaper there is a write in column to a doctor who answers questions, and one thing he once said has always stuck with me. If a patient suspects something is not right, it should be investigated fully, because a patient tends to be right about knowing himself. You sense something is different Meg, I would look into it if I were you.

Oh how about some nice tea sandwichs?
It's funny on my way home I was thinking about finding this thread to talk about my latest hair cut. I think my new hair stylist may be fabulous!! We'll know for sure in about a week, but he strightened my hair without using any products.
Anyways, on to Meg. I did a search and found this:
http://beauty.about.com/od/hairbasics/f/hairloss.htm
A. Everyone loses between 40 & 120 strands a day, depending on how much hair you have, your age & your hair's growth cycle. People with fine hair tend to have more of it & therefore will lose more of it than their thicker-haired sisters & brothers. Your hair also thins as you get older, particularly after menopause for women, but the thinning will stop & not continue as it will for men.
Here are common causes of hair loss:
1. Seasonality. You'll lose the most hair in the fall -- typically November and December when hair reaches maturity in its growth cycle.
2. Diet. Hair loss can occur through poor dieting, tight ponytails, even with age. According to dermatologist George Cotsarelis, M.D., director of the University of Pennsylvania Hair and Scalp Clinic, iron deficiency may be the cause. He states in the April 2006 issue of 'Ladies Home Journal,' it might be worth checking your levels with your doctor & take a supplement if they're low.
3. Pregnancy Some women experience hair loss with pregnancy or as part of post-pregnancy hormonal changes. Other women experience hair loss when going on or off (usually off) the birth control pill.
4. Illness Sometimes it happens as a result of illness. Even stress, excessive weight loss, iron deficiency & thyroid problems can cause hair loss.
If you're really worried, ask your doctor, however, experts say you really only need to worry if your part is getting wider or you can see your scalp through your hair. But don't worry, not all hair loss is permanent. There is a specialty doctor called a 'trichologist,' an expert in hair problems. You can make an appointment and ask the doc for a diagnosis.
Extra tip: If you're a woman you won't experience male-pattern baldness. Women's hair tends to thin all over. The only FDA-approved hair loss treatment for women is Minoxidil, according to scalp specialist David Kingsley, PhD, in the November, 2005 issue of 'O' magazine. Minoxidil works in 60-70 percent of cases by improving the follicle's ability to produce hair, Kingsley said.

yeah, I have a thick, thick hair, but I used to get worried about that too. But then I always have my hair up in ponytails, so I figured out it was because of that. But its never so much to cause worry or anything.

Thaks for the information everyone. I'm due for a checkup, and I may mention it. My hair is really fine in texture, but it is dense on my head. As an idea, it can take thirty minutes (total) to get shampoo and conditioner completely off my scalp and out of my hair. I don't remember this much ever coming out, but maybe stress is the answer. I'll take a bit of advice from everyone. Start a vitamin, try to settle down some, and if that doesn't help I'll have a chat with the doctor. Thanks for the feedback everyone:)

I buy Avon.
I never ever in a million years thought I would ever buy Avon. My grandma always bought from some crazy lady lady who wore bright yellow shirts and crazy lipstick and she always had bad perfume and I always associated Avon with that lady
But one day, I was bored at work on my break flipping through the catalog and ordered some "Beautifully Protected" SPF 30 moisturizer. And I really liked it and continued to buy it but now Avon has discontinued it and I am so mad. So this is my informal petition to Avon to bring back the "Beautifully Protected"
If anyone else want to get in on this, let me know. Better yet, if there are any Avon executives skulking around LitNet, please reconsider and bring back the Beautifully Protected please. Thanks so much

Find a good conditioner. Brushing your hair often with a natural bristle brush helps some as well. For conditioner, I like TresSemme (SP?) Their line seems to work really well for my hair. You may ask your local stylist what they think you should use.:)

Yeah, about the Avon perfume, my grandma always wore a real oldie called "Here's My Heart", when she passed away I was able to have one of her old bottles of this, which I have still (she died in 1983), and it is a real old bottle -- it still holds the same fragrance. Bittersweet.
But I read that a fragrance will maintain and not go 'skunky' if you keep it out of direct sunlight and have the relatively same temps year round. One friend of mine keeps her finer stuff (that be her precious Chanel No.5), in the fridge -- I thought that was going a little far, mind you! :)

I love Matrix Sleek-Look. It really does work well.
Once I was at the salon getting my hair highlighted and the hairdresser was commenting about how healthy my hair looked and felt and I told her that was what I had been using. unfortunately, at this salon, they don't sell Matrix products and the other hairdressers starting talking about how Matrix products are not well made and that they were cheap and I was sort of offended by that last comment - how dare they? 1) Matrix products are not cheap. Suave is cheap - Matrix is not. And there is nothing wrong with Suave either. It's shampoo - unfortunately if you color or perm or have curly hair, Suave probably isn't the best choice.

Pantene is good. And Aussie. i like Dove too. i guess i would just pick one that says it's Moisturizing or whatever. I don't where you live, but here it costs about 3.99 - 4.99 for a bottle, so for shampoo and conditioner, that's under $10. i don't know if you meant both had to cost $10 or you wouldn't pay more than $10 per bottle. I am totally with you on that. If I do buy the salon shampoos, I wait until they have a sale like buy one get one, or they will have a liter sale and if I buy a liter, it sits in my shower for like half a year so i tell myself that I am getting my money's worth

You can always braid it when it's wet, perhaps take a shower at night, wait until your hair is just slightly damp and then braid away. When you get up in the morning, take out the braids and while your hair won't be exactly curly, it will have a nice wave.

Non christian religious jewelry?...do you mean you just don't want crosses or are you looking for Jewish symbols or Hindu or Muslim or just generic symbols like doves and ankhs or something like that?
Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Pagan, etc....anything that doesn't involve crosses or saints. (Nothing wrong with crosses or saints just not what I need right now).

Here's a site (http://www.angelfire.com/ok2/slinkyswimwear/indexreligious.html) I found with a really odd address. There's a ton of crosses on there but there are also a lot of other items that are not crosses or saints so you might be able to find something there that would work.

You can always braid it when it's wet, perhaps take a shower at night, wait until your hair is just slightly damp and then braid away. When you get up in the morning, take out the braids and while your hair won't be exactly curly, it will have a nice wave.
lol, i tried, i washed it, used an entire botttle of moose, braided it and the next morning i unbraieded it had curls and then they fell out in 2min..:bawling:

  I'm sorry. :( I'll give you another piece of advice then...like you, my hair has a really hard time keeping a curl in it. Mine actually has a fairly strong wave to it but it's completely uncontrollable and random and my hair is very heavy and no matter what curling technique I use, curling iron, hot rollers, sponge curlers, etc... the curls don't last more than a few minutes so I've learned, in order to not add any weight to it, when I'm know I'm going to be curling it, I don't condition it. That seems to help keep it a little lighter and therefore the curls stay in a little longer...at least a few minutes longer. ;) For me, in addition to not taking curls well, my hair doesn't take to straightening very well either because of that wave so when I want straight hair, I do the opposite and put tons of conditioner in there, the wash out kind and the spray in kind so the hair weight is even heavier. And then after using a brush and hair dryer to straighten it, I usually have to use a straightening iron as well. My hair is notoriously uncooperative.

I need to find some good shampoo and conditioner. The trouble is in kinda poor and can't afford the expensive stuff. (And by expensive I mean anything above 10$) Does anyone have any suggestions?
(I have curly, long hair, prone to tangling and dreacklocking)
Bakiryu, where are you from? In Canada and the US there are stores called Lush. They make fresh, all-natural handmade cosmetics. The stuff is amazing. I too have long, really curly hair and their stuff works wonders. The shampoo comes in bar form. The one I use is called Godiva and it's amazing. It leaves your hair really soft and shiny and smeling good. It's actaully a two in one bar, but I find it doesn't quite condition as much as I need so I use a conditioner of theirs as well. The bar of shampoo is around $10 and though it looks small, it lasts a really long time. Google their website. It will prolly have info.

okay, so my hair is like realy long, like touch the floor long, but its realy dry and straight, i dont use any chemicals on my hair, nor do i straighten or blow dry it, is there anyway for me to get curls without chemicals?
Sorry to disappoint, but I think the only way your hair will curl is if you cut it. My hair is naturally very curly, but I find that the longer it gets, the less is curls because of the weight. The longer your hair is, the more it weighs and then it physically cannot hold itself up in a curl. If your hair touches the floor, it probably just weighs too much to hold a curl. On the other hand, if you really wanted curls, you could try getting a perm. I really don't know if it would hold though. Good luck!

I use gel eyeliner. It's kind of creamy though. SO much easier than a pencil or liquid.

Thank you! I live in the US and will certainly try this. My hair is really soft real now since I just change champoos, but it's still tangly. I think the curls want to kill me.

Something from the news I found interesting...
Pill use 'may cut risk of cancer'
Using the contraceptive pill cuts the overall risk of a woman developing cancer, research suggests.
Any increased risk of breast and cervix cancer linked to pill use appears to be cancelled out by long-term protection from other cancers.
However, the British Medical Journal study found using the pill for more than eight years was associated with an increased overall risk of cancer.
The University of Aberdeen analysed data from a 36-year study.
The study began in 1968, and updates on the women's health were provided every six months by their GPs.
Even if women eventually moved to a new GP the researchers were able to obtain details of whether they developed cancer, or died from NHS central registries.
The researchers found that the risk of...

Ok-pokey!
I was playing around with some moisturizers and such when i found some shea butter anti-stretch mark cream. I decided to see what it did if i put it on my arms and legs (I'm crazy like that). I fell asleep and when I woke up: My elbows were pink! They have been gray since before third grade but now they are as soft as a babe's and so are my legs!
You can find this at Walmart for under 3$, it comes in a medium sized tub ( fist sized) and its yellow. It's awesome, it made my stretch marks fade too!

That was pretty interesting. I think I read somewhere that women who don't have children and/or have never been pregnant have a higher risk of developing breast cancer, and since the pill works by sort of tricking your body into thinking it's pregnant (sorry, I know that's awkwardly put but I am at a loss as to how to describe it) then that article makes sense.
I was always afraid of the pill because I smoked and didn't want to have a stroke. And then when I took it for a while, I thought I was having blood clots in my legs (I read the pamphlet and was convinced that the risks that they listed were happening to me  ) so I stopped. One thing the pill did do was get rid of cramps.

When they're all dry and scaly and old-people looking (Sorry old people! No offense intended!)
I didn't know the pill could help with that, so if you don't take it, could you be at risk? and why so many women have breast cancer nowadays?
motherhubbard
09-13-2007, 11:07 PM
breastfeeding reduces your risk of breast cancer. if you were breastfed as a baby for the first year your risk is reduced by about 25%. then the mother's risk is reduced over time, the more time you spend breastfeeding the greater your reduction. if you go seven years (that can be shared between all of your kids) then it would be a freek of nature to get breast cancer. It could of course still happen, but it is around .01% likely.

I thought you had to be pregnant in order to produce milk. i am so confused. someone inform me. I don't have kids and probably won't ever have kids of my own so i guess it's okay that I don't know this, but now I am curious. i always thought the pregnancy was directly related to lactation and i thought that if you're not pregnant you don't produce milk. I'm not trying to challenge the statement or anything--I literally do not know.

motherhubbard
09-13-2007, 11:24 PM
well, there is a relation between pregnancy and lactation, but you don't have to have ever been pregnant to lactate. it's about demand. if there is a consistent demand there will be milk. I was shocked when I learned about all of this too. I was a la leche league leader for a while and I had to learn all kinds of stuff. Did you know that there have been times when men have produced milk for their children. I guess if it's that or the baby starve to death- but I can't imagine my husband's hairy nipples doing the job

motherhubbard
09-14-2007, 12:14 AM
age makes themsag a bit. Pregnancy makes them sag a bit, breastfeeding won't make them sag any more than just being pregnant will. there's lots of old ladies that didn't breastfeed with saggy boobs- the truth hurts sometimes, but it happens to everyone sooner or later- big or small

Good answer. Gravity will make them sag with no help from kids or breastfeeding:lol: The real key is getting back into shape after having those babies. Doing the same type of excercises men do to shape their pectoral muscles will help to perk them back up a bit. Gravity will eventually win anyway, depressing but true. Being in good shape helps a bunch, though.

I loved giving birth, I really did. every time. Even that last one and that was a bit rough and I ended up having a c-section, but I still loved it. The c-section went great. I have giant babies. the last one was 11 1/2 lbs. my smallest was 8-9, I had a 9, and I had one that was 10-9 and gave birth to him at home- all of it was great! It doesn't have to be a scary thing. I think the scariest part is just when you don't know what's going to happen

It just freaks me out, I'm a bit of a commitment phobe too. So i don't think i would ever meet a man with whom I would actually want to have kids. My mother had my brother, then went barren, she had to take medication to have me and then she had about 7 abortions. I don't want to be like that.

 It really isn't too bad. I had one C-section and one in the hospital. My son was 9 weeks early and also feet first, so they just did the c-section because it was less risky. My little girl was a VBAC, meaning no c-section, and she came out fine as well. I had to be in the hospital to have her, just in case, so I took advantage of the epidural. I still think if I had planned on another I could have done a home birth and not taken meds, but it sure was nice when labor got rough:D The end result is worth so much more than anything you have to do to get it. I don't regret a single stretch mark or even the extra 40 pounds put on over the course of 2 pregnancies. Granted I'm working on taking off some of the weight, but I don't care if I ever see 117lbs on the scale again. It just doesn't matter that much when you see what you get. I never wanted children as a teen, and then married young. That also wasn't in the cards for me. Anyway, after 5 years of marriage and two wonderful kids... I wouldn't change a moment of it. All I can think now is that I would have been so alone if life had went the way I planned.

Well, I don't know if I would say I enjoyed it, ;) but it wasn't too bad. For me, the actual delivery was a piece of cake, it was the labor leading up to it...all 36 hours the first time and a paltry 21 hours the second...that was the tough part. But still, I managed both without medication so obviously, I managed. The thing is, you get through it anyway you can because you have to and really, it's much scarier to watch someone give birth than to actually do it, you're kind of in a zone, focusing on the job at hand.

I finally found some eyeshadow I can use. It's Line N Design from Avon, but of course, they're discontinuing that too. Anyhoo, I was trying to put on mascara yesterday. I don't normally wear mascara but I got some as part of a free gift so I decided to pair it up with my line n design and it was a complete disaster.
The bristles didn't appear to have too much black gook on them but when I brushed it on my lashes, I ended up with clumps and it was in my line of vision, so I ended up taking all of my make-up off and starting all over sans mascara.
This mascara was supposed to be the expensive kind (but like I said, mine was free) What's the dealio? What am I doing wrong?
