Woman Work
I've got the children to tend
The cloths to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I've got the shirts to press
The tots to dress
The cane to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.

Shine on me ,sunshine
Rain on me,rain
Fall softly ,dewdrops
And cool my brow again.

Storm,blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
'till I can rest again.

Fall gently,snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.

Sun,rain,curving sky
Mountain,oceans,leaf and stone
Star shine,moon glow
You're all that I can call my own.
Maya Angelou

Now you know a coffee shop has to have poetry! I'm not complaining, mind, but weren't some of you quite vocal in saying the guys could not exclude ladies from their club? Did it occur to you that guys like coffee, cookies, and chats as well? Will you also serve tea? Earl Grey, perhaps, or Darjeeling? Humm?;)

diet... Humm Ive been on a few in my time ( and Im only 19  ) but the last one I was on actually for the first time in my life made me feel healthy and happy with myself - for the most part. So Ill probably be doing that one again.

grace86
10-15-2006, 10:16 PM
Madhuri, I know what you are saying....I'd turn into nothing if I dieted :p But I don't look drastically thin...appealing I guess...if that doesn't sound too conceited...I am just lucky enough that I can eat whatever I want.

Never dieted, but I do exercise to keep in shape. So pass on the cookies...and I am so sorry Nightshade about your flat.

I'm not sure about getting a French Manicure, I don't like them much. However, I intend to wear pink nail varnish to school tomorrow, for breast cancer research. Besides, I wouldn't even know where to get pink hair dye.

For Mir's Birthday

Once upon a Halloween in a country far away,
A little girl was born who grew up quite the tomboy.
Still there was a hint of mischief as in any born upon that day,
When Darkness rules the Earth in reckless joy.
Any goblin or old witch never cursed our little girl,
Because she was born smack dab on Halloween.
She turned out cute as any button with hair inclined to curl,
One of the sweetest little ladies you may have ever seen.
So Mir, you took your Birthday early this season,
But you’ll find your cake is still a jack-o-lantern—
So I hope that escaping the ghouls and ghosts were not the reason
For there really is no way to stop once you begin to form a pattern.
Have a most joyous Birthday, and should a ghost meet you in the hall:
Just remember that they don’t exist—or, do they—after all?

Pinky Manicure is so trashy, isn't it:D?but yes if it's for breast cancer day. Dyeing hair with pink:lol: , I remember in one of the years the fashion was to dye only the edge of the hair by bright colors like pink or focsia or blue. It was not good at all and I did not know how some girls dare to try it!
How was your manicure, birdy?looked breathless or cheapy?

Girls, plz help me with this. A friend of mine has just sent me news that she is pregnant. I'll send her a gift but since my gift is going to take time to reach the US , in the meantime ,I'm thinking of emailing a nice card ,any thoughts or any links for animated cards that is related to pregnancy or maternity?

Shouldn't do this, really, but blame Kathy, she started it!
What women really mean in 18 easy steps:

1. "I'M GOING SHOPPING"
Translated: I'm going to look at every last thing in the mall and possibly buy something, but don't hold your breath. I don't know when I'll get back, fix your own supper, leftovers in the fridge!"

2. "AREN'T THESE THE CUTEST SHOES?"
Translated: " Better not make a sound about how many pairs I have in the closet, or you're a dead man!”

Something to keep us busy....and its fun!

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway-but the Sex Lady will know!

YOUR AGE BY SEX MATH

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read ..
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a day that you would like to have sex
(more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1756 ....
If you haven't, add 1755.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have sex each day).

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND WHILE IT LASTS.

(well it worked for me. opti.)

Original number: x (one digit, as demanded by parameters)
Times 2: 2x
Plus 5: 2x + 5
Times 50: 100x + 250
Plus 1756 (assuming birthday rolled around): 100x + 250 + 1756
Minus Year of Birth: 100x + 250 + 1756 - (2006 - Age) = 100x + 250 - 250 + Age = 100x + Age

...resulting in a three-digit number with digits: X, Age-1, Age-2. Those with three-digit ages will have something different, of course.

Very important to read: exclusively for Gracy, Madhuri….and all thin, and slim, slender girls:
I've been a fat child with full cheeks, as you might have noticed in my picture. Growing older, I became slim and lost much of my weight! I mean not to frightening extent but still ,losing my cheeks annoys me ,I've always loved the round faces, I dunno if u share this thing with me but if u do then here's the thing. I do not like plastic surgery except if there is something EXTREMELY ugly in you, otherwise I do not know how women go to such clinics for only trifle makeover! The thing is: I've found my solution to return my cheeks without getting your body into the danger of being fat or getting more weight .How? It’s actually ampoules called: Heliabrine marine collagen ampoules. This moisture is basically an energizing, revitalizing and oxygenating treatments which delivers radiance and suppleness to the skin and as a result of this intensive care the cheeks give fullness shape. This is my third day of using this cream and I notice a real change, my complexion never reacted to any cream as this one. I'm not telling you that my face returned full, still too early but as a beginning I see good points as to the vitality it gives to the complexion. Lot's of my friends used it and came out with noticeable results. Of course, after counseling your doctor, so you start it with reassurance as to its being suitable to you. If you are on this, I hope that it's available up there:Dwhere you live.
Kath: are you slim or fat? just curious . If you are thiny then welcome to the slim girls club, and all other slim girls ….the list goes!! Oh ,tiny explorer(that girl! I like her nick:D)can join us without registering except if she is an undercover fat girl:lol: ,this club offers support to all slim girls;have'nt you noticed that all the supporting programs go to the fat people?

HaHa mine too - my friends occasionally call me stubby because of my short fingers and legs. But I do like a good manicure. I usually go with clear or very neutral shades on my fingers and go for the colors on my toes (I especially like dark reds and bright colors).

What magic? The only reason it's amazing is that the first few numbers seem so mundane that no one notices the custom-selected uniqueness of 1756/1755.

Is a French manicure one where they file your nails with their tongue?

This is taking a weird direction and I'm not too sure I like it...it's waaaay too girly :S especially the slim girls thingy :S

I *think* French manicure is that thing where you have a white line at the 'top' of the nail and the rest is transparent or pinkish... I can't explain better... I don't like it.

Well I've been biting my nails since before I can remember but I started to use nail polish a few years ago and with that I can endure up to one month without biting... I don't like red, I like black when I go to dark parties (black for concerts is a must for me, but sometimes it seems too 'heavy', I feel too old for such heavy colours sometimes) and such or when I wear my dark outfits... otherwise I'm for light blue-ish purple-ish things

try it ,u r gonna love me:)

one spoon yogurt, half spoon honey and the essence of an egg(oh,forgot it's name:D) but I mean the yellow part of it...
now mix them and put them for half an hour(or as u like)in ur hair. Then take a shower:lol:

I modestly think that I have the best natural hair ever, I always only wash it normally and it's nice and silky. Only problem, it gets greasy fast so I have to wash it every single day...

Nightshade

bah herbs... thats the trick, 2 tables spoons of rosmerry in 2 pints of boiling water wait till the herbs settle then sizze and allow to cool a couple of cups whenever you wash your hair and hey presto no more greasy hair!
You can substitue all sorts of things too, sage makes dark hair shiny ( and Id swear my hair grew twice as fast when I was using it but the down side is your hair stinks while its wet and gives the towels a green colour.
a few nettles for dandruff
basically mix and match, a couple of tablespoons of vinger added should in theory make your hair shinny too butI havent tried that yet!
:D
And no no cake left I didnt get the choclate though they tried to give me half a cheesecake but sadly I was already weighed down and you cant exactly go to a mosque with curry, rice AND cheescake-- its just not right.

dear LADIES:

here is a magic mixture for the hair,it makes it shiny and very very smooth;)
try it ,u r gonna love me:)

one spoon yogurt, half spoon honey and the essence of an egg(oh,forgot it's name:D) but I mean the yellow part of it...
now mix them and put them for half an hour(or as u like)in ur hair. Then take a shower:lol:
it has an effect of conditonner but it's natural .
good luck...if u try it tell me the result so we can celebrate together:banana:

I have used such conditioners (without the egg, I used a different thing, I dont know what is it called in English), and I can say it really works, and leaves hair shiney and with a lot of bounce and silky smooth.

kathycf
10-23-2006, 02:32 PM
Hmmm, I guess I am going to have to try something like that conditioner then. (BTW miss T, the word in English for that part of the egg is called the yolk. :) )

Actually, I am always intrigued when someone says something and they are not sure of the English word for it. If you guys would not mind, could you type the word in your native language and also what that language is? I can then take the word and look it up via an online translator and then will have learned a new word in another language. Of course some of these translators are a little weird.... I have some online friends from different countries and when I translate something they say with one of those things and then tell them what the translation was they are usually like "huh?"

Oh yes, thanks Ozeed for the flowers and muffins....but you only get the best points if you bring chocolate....:p :p :p (at least in my book ;))

Miss T, I am not sure if I will get this cream here in India. I wish I could get a similar kind here, but i'll have to search for it. This is a good idea to remain slim and have a full face.

Hey your picture is very cute.....

Opps, sorry t hear that! Mybe it's there but you have to do more checking in the big pharmacies in India.
Thanks….

No one explained what a french manicure was yet BTW

Dunno how to explain it! Kaltrinaaaaaaaaa, help help!!

Okay,it's the kind of manicure that has two colors, actually same color but it's darker on the extra part of the nail(the long part if ur nails are long)if not, then on the upper part of the nail. When we say French,1st thing come to the mind the white color(not the dull,it looks really elegant)it's the most spread kind pf Manicure, but other colors can be used as well. U can google(French Manicure) maybe u'll see how it looks like. Very elegant….and hard to be mastered.

Believe me this idea wont escape my mind, but tell u a secret, I do not know what is yolk in my native, I always call it the yellow part:D and when I took ur word yolk to my translator to see it’s Arabic synonym ,it translated to a real weird word that've never heard in my language :D. thanks for the help,Kath!

Hello gals...

Yes Kath yolk is the red part of the egg... Now I am really enjoying this girly thread because I am learning so many great receipes for the hair... I know one to make your hair stronger, when you have damaged hair from colours for example, or from the fan I used the olive oil together with yolk and it's very nice, especially if the olive oil is home made.
Now about that french manicure, no worries Miss T you explained it really nice... and believe me Night french manicure makes your nails beautiful even if your nails short and have chubby fingers.... :)

there are plenty of websites etc. etc. which are about bollywood and discuss those kind of movies. here we prefer something of more profound and deep and meaningful nature, a bit more than: boy meets girl, girl meets boy, mutual feeling...and oh! behold! calamity....father against it or father has daughters marriage arranged already......in the end good triumphs over evil, goodies live on, baddies die from just one wound or one shot but the hero never dies no matter the number of wounds etc. (i do realise that nowadays their are exceptions. but its still a rule) and everyone lives on happily ever after...even the father who has found a son he never had in the son-in-law. of course the mother always loved him, but being the subordinate and not the 'man in the house' she has to stay silent and watch her childrens lives ruins. now isnt the time or the place to analyse all the meanings behind it but those of you familiar with film studies im sure uv already picked up on the innuedoes behind the plots and also what period/genre they fit in.

I like Indian movies and I do not like to underestimate any kind of art for any nation. I 'm a good follower for Hollyood movies too. Both Holly and Bolly have movies that are good and deep and they do have trifle ones. If u think that Bollyood movies are only concerned about these issues ,fine! They know what goes in their society and what should they act out!! they are just so rich of the Indian culture and I find this really interesting. They are deep when trying to insist on good qualities . Maybe the kind you choose to see aren't deep!! you gotta see the development they are attempting in the kind of topic they choose to be acted, though the love stories seem inevitable.

Being the ultranosy person that I am, I actually googled for "disgusting food" and found the exact same pic that optimistic posted. The person whose blog (http://sw.deri.org/~knud/fotoblog/fotoblog0501.html) it is from says it is Yakitori, a Japanese dish. Looking at it made me want to "yak" alright....

Yakitori is grilled chicken speared on sticks. All different parts of the chicken, thighs, skin, liver, etc. can be used for yakitori. The following recipe (http://www.japan-guide.com/r/e102.html)shows one of the most popular kind which is prepared with chicken thighs and leek.
I also found this....it looks pretty nasty as well:

Piffle! Why I have even jumpstarted my car AND pumped my own gas. Although it was traumatizing because I almost broke a nail....:p

just google 'girly gadgets' *i know a nosy person who will do this! *

*cough* Goodness, who would be nosy enough to do something like that? :p

The fact is that the number of women buying gadgets has gone up 20% in the last two years and in the last twelve months British women spent an average of £634 each on technology - that's more than we spent on shoes!

The big tech companies have been quick to identify this trend and, keen to get their hands on some dolly dough, they've come up with a whole range of gadgets designed to appeal directly to the growing ranks of girlie geeks.

So what have they come up with? Well, rather embarrassingly for the ladies, the main way that you make a woman want your product is ? PAINT IT PINK!

trashy, isn't it:D?but yes if it's for breast cancer day. Dyeing hair with pink:lol: , I remember in one of the years the fashion was to dye only the edge of the hair by bright colors like pink or focsia or blue. It was not good at all and I did not know how some girls dare to try it!
How was your manicure, birdy?looked breathless or cheapy?

Niether. I'd say it looked decent. I did them in two shades of pink. So, from left to right my nails were dark pink, light pink, dark pink, light pink, dark pink (Continuing onto the other hand) light pink, dark pink, light pink, dark pink, light pink and all topped off with a smooth coat of a kind of light, pinky, slightly glittery nail varnish that made them all nice and smooth (Because the light and dark pinks were from a cheap little set of different coloured varnishes that my cousin got me for Christmas a couple of years ago.) So, I'd say they were okay. Niether cheap or glamourous. But, I have the kind of nails made for nail varnish. The only way I can think of descibing them is, imagine those horrible stick on nails you can get, only slimmer and neatly rounded at the top, not squared. They can look very elegant on their own (When they're clean that is). They also grow rather quickly. They used to break a lot, but they seem to have got stronger now.
It turned out that either no one had the guts to dye their hair pink or no one could be bothered. Most of the sixth form wore something pink though. The few boys that didn't ended up borrowing a pink scarf, hat or gloves from one of the girls. All in all, it was quite a fun day. And, I got my breast cancer pin. I'd been waiting for my opportunity to get one all month. I don't mind that it's pink, because it's got a nice kind of blueish glitter, so it's all nice and sparkly. And, as an added bonus, I got a sticker too :D

I wish I could still go trick or treating.

Don't we all?
Even though it was usually cold and wet and my feet hurt at the end it was always worth it. Besides, I didn't get too wet, because I had a big, cheap plastic witches hat and a home made costume from wheelie bin bags, so I was actually rather dry and toasty, but my friends didn't have such warm, dry costumes. They got absolutely soaked :cold: . I always gathered a good hoard that lasted me to Christmas and beyond  . I'll never forget when we got a big bag of salty popcorn and ate it just under a month later, watching the fireworks from peoples gardens.
Well, now I'm the one giving out the sweets. HAHAHAHA!!!!! What's great about it is that we usually only get one or two groups of kiddies, so there's plenty of sweets left for me :D .
I can't wait for tonight. My little trick is all ready, and it looks great. We've also got the best decorations in the street. Actually, we've got the only decorations in the street. But, they're still the best :).

I'm not the only one excited about Halloween am I?

Maybe, instead of coffee, we can consider some of these:

10. Greens, Greens Good for the Heart (And other parts, too!) If you were force-fed vegetables as a child, you might be turned off greens – but these beleaguered and overlooked veggies offer an amazing amount of magnesium, calcium and potassium. And let's not forget the cancer-fighting phytochemicals, too! Add spring greens to a winter salad, stir curly kale into a hearty sausage and bean soup or try something new like chard to add colour to a pasta dish.

9. Bulgur is Better! Bulgur wheat is cracked whole wheat. The higher fibre content on this type of wheat helps you feel fuller for longer and can help prevent constipation, colon and breast cancers. It can also reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. A versatile grain, it can be made into hot cereal or a delicious Tabbouleh with tomato, lemon juice and loadsa herbs!

8. A Head of the Pack! Cabbage is an astonishing source of beta carotene and folate. Bok choy too, enjoys the same benefits. Who knew that choosing a simple cabbage could make such a difference nutrient-wise? Folate is an important nutrient for preventing birth defects, as well as possibly protecting the body from cancer and heart disease, too.

7. Berry Interesting! Fibre-filled and packed with vitamin C, berries can help prevent cataracts and reduce the risk of infection because of their antioxidant rich properties. A 100g serving of strawberries has 77 milligrams of vitamin C. That's twice as much vitamin C then you’ll get from the same serving of grapefruit.

6. Guac This Way! Avocadoes have been ditched by dieters for a long time. The high fat content of one avocado may send shivers up a low fat dieter’s spine, but besides being an excellent source of folate and potassium, avocado's strength comes from its fat. The monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid found in avocadoes, can actually improve cholesterol levels in the body and help control diabetes. The fibre content is impressive too. One avocado has more fibre than a Weetabix biscuit!

5. Just Beet It! Pickled, boiled, roasted or in cake (yes cake...think carrot cake with beetroot!) beetroot has a definite place on everyone's plate. Beetroot are best when it comes to protecting against cancer and helping to build iron stores. They're big on folate, a B vitamin women can't get enough of - folate protects against birth defects. Grated into a salad or a hidden in fajitas (so the kids won't see them) there are easy ways to stay neat with beets.

4. Go Bananas! One lovely banana can help reduce blood pressure and relieve heartburn. How appealing is that? The fact is we eat an average of 27 pounds of bananas a year and that's no bad thing. You almost can't eat enough potassium-rich foods. And as far as tryptophan-rich foods go (a protein that converts to serotonin) bananas may help with depression. That certainly makes bananas one of the best of the bunch.

3. Tea Time! Skip the hob nobs and you may be on to something. Both green tea and black tea contain flavonoids that have excellent antioxidant properties. Studies have shown that regular tea consumption (up to three cups a day) decreases the risk of heart disease and stroke. A bonus to dieters: other studies have also shown tea to block some of the effects of fats after a heavy meal.

2. Mushroom Cloud! Mushrooms contain two important B vitamins: niacin and riboflavin. Both of these nutrients help your body form the enzymes needed to help the body metabolise more efficiently. ****ake mushrooms, found in both dried and fresh form, are a little more exotic than plain white button mushrooms, but are amazing immune boosting fungi. So much so that some scientists are testing ****akes against the HIV virus. One warning about mushrooms: in their raw state, they can contain toxins or carry salmonella. But cooked, they are a dieters dream with only 13 calories in 100g!

1. Hold the Onions! Hold them dear to your heart, that is. These lovelies have enough power to help raise HDL (good) cholesterol levels while lowering blood pressure. Feeling stuffy? Onions help relieve congestion and make breathing a little easier. Onion poultices were common treatment for colds in the old days. The very thing that makes your eyes water with onions (sulphur) have anti-inflammatory properties, too, making onions a natural healer as well.

Studies have shown that regular tea consumption (up to three cups a day) decreases the risk of heart disease and stroke. A bonus to dieters: other studies have also shown tea to block some of the effects of fats after a heavy meal.

The very thing that makes your eyes water with onions (sulphur) have anti-inflammatory

~gasp!~ must I double post ladies? Well, seeing as the men feel the need to prove their manliness every two pages or so in their thread by bringing up random "manly" topics...let us NOT imitate them and NOT prove our womanliness with randomly selected topics :p

How have all of you been today? This is my 500th post and I still need to vote for that final round of the short story contest. I'm going to Puerto Rico tommorow for a cross-country meet, even though I haven't run in almost a year (the coach begged me, lol). Any ladies in here play sports or have played sports in the past?

lol...really good, or the coach is really desperate :p

Now crew is something that I've never had the chance to try, though think I would enjoy it. I like kayaking anyway, lol, so I think I would like it. A lot of running really makes one appreciate a good upper-body workout.

Okay, girly talk girly talk...errr...ummm.... I get to drag my boyfriend to California next month to meet my dad for the first time! Woohoo! (You'd think after being together for 3 years he would have met my dad...:p)

I guess it could work, Madhuri, if you already have something red in your dress. Something that would 'echo' your earrings somehow.

Glad to see you too! I wanted to know you better, you seem such an amazing girl. ;)
How are you?
I feel better now that I am back home, it gives me strength to hold on.

Yes, a belt would be perfect. You could even had a red handbag or red shoes if you have/want. :D
