On a more serious note though. THis week I'm 37 weeks pregnant. My husband and I went to see the Dr yesterday, and so I'M GOING IN THIS SATURDAY TO HAVE LABOUR INDUCED!Good luck, Tournesol!

But why are they inducing you so early?

Take some snacks, drink (water especially) and CDs with you.

Will be thinking of you on Saturday!

Saturday I'll be sleeping hopefully,(after 2 weeks of non-stop studying),I'll keep you in my dreams!:)
Back to the Q:
We have a little openning behind the kitchen in the back of the house, where the walls are tall, my mom thought it was a great place for the "delicates" until the peogons found out about it...I think they are on mutual agreement now.

2) I just spent a week in a dry climate, this morning I woke up dry and flaky (face). My face lotion isn't helping all that much any ideas?

I like to use a salt scrub. It will help exfoliate your face, while the oil will help to replace some of the moisture. My only caveat is that if you're prone to breakouts, it can trigger one.

I was kinda in your neck of the woods but not really. Usually down here in the swamp I have to wash my hair every other day or it looks oily and greasy but up there I could have gone all week if I wanted (I didn't though).

I'm worried about all that oil in the salt scrub, :idea:maybe I'll do an aspirin mask! I haven't one of those in forever.

JuniperWoolf

What's an asprin mask?

I take about five cheap drug store, noncoated aspirin and crush then up and add either water or milk to make a paste then appy it to my face for about twenty minutes then exfoliate when I remove it. It's cheap and it leaves me with smooth skin.

I found this recipe which adds jojoba oil:

I'm thinking of cutting my hair off, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I've super thick hair, and long layers seems to work well. Does anyone know of any good shoulder length cuts that can accommodate lots and lots of layers?

Well, if you don't want to try olive oil, maybe avo? Or yogurt works really well. It exfoliates and moisturizes. Or a honey mask. Or a honey and yogurt mask! :D

My mother is into this new thing where you mix some yogurt with the contents of one spirulina capsule. It's scary looking but her skin looks amazing afterwards.

I understand, my mother felt that way about me moving out. I just reassured her that I would still visit A LOT. They only live a few minutes away. So I would suggest that, although you can unfortunately not spend Thanksgiving with your son, you can always have a family-only type day or evening when he comes back. That way you still get some quality time together.

At least you have ovens. I'm paying a very high price for not calling a professional-I needed to replace. a broken bake element and we asked my son's friend to do it. He is very competent, but he had never done this before. He made the attempt, without unplugging the stove, and WHOMP! A flash of light, a loud noise-I'm just so glad he didn't electrocute himself, but now the wires in the back of the stove are meted-kind od like the wicked witch of the west.

A little longer in the oven, I think, papaya.

If it's a really heavy bread the timing can be kind of tricky. It can be easy to end up with burnt on the outside and mush on the inside. I'm with Qim on longer baking time, but you may want to turn the temp down a bit, too. Or try making muffins instead of a loaf. they cook faster.

On another random note, do any of you have issues finding jeans to fit? I tend to run tiny in the waist with wider hips... basically think the typical hourglass shape and you have me. The only issue is that the only jeans I've found are difficult to find in smaller sizes. I'm looking at Levis curve id jeans in the bold curve, but the size 8 isn't something I can find at the store. Anyone have any better suggestions of brands that may fit well and still hold up to constant wear?

Multivitamins have helped me. All the issues I've had over the past few years were directly tied to my diet. Removing things that gave my system problems and adding a multivitamin helped a ton. The only catch is that I'm taking higher end vitamins. The store bought ones don't seem to work, but I've been taking Shaklee ones, and I've had great success.

The best and cheapest place I have found for jeans s Old Navy. I know, but I buy them for work. They run ~ $30 but a couple times a year go on sale for $15.95. When they are on sale I'll go in and buy 5-10 pairs. Seriously, after a few months at work my jeans look like I step in a way back machine and I'm heading to the Motley Crue concert in my ripped up jeans.

Thanks Papaya! I'll have to try theirs on. We don't have an Old Navy at the mall here, so I likely didn't hit that store. I must have tried 10 different stores and 50+ different brand and style combinations, and still I couldn't find ones to fit right. If they fit in the hips I have 2-3 inches of extra material in the waist. If the waist fits, I look like I have sausage casings on my hips and thighs

I'm short, but VERY hourglass. I finally got a pair of the curve id jeans in the mail, and they fit perfectly. I'm thinking they're worth the price, and I'll just order them from Amazon. They don't have all the spandex in them that most jeans have now, so I just hope they hold up well to make it worth the price. They're 99% cotton 1% spandex, so I'm thinking they should last for some time.

Haha, I would never be able to pull either of those off. I wear these mostly:

http://www.decademailorder.com/images/products/50lopezblack%20black.jpg

They're really padded and boyish, so they make your feet look bigger than they are which sort of looks a bit little-kid-ish. I like to wear them with soft, fuzzy white socks all rolled down to the ankle and poking just above the lip of my shoes. If you wear them with a lacy pink skirt like this one:

http://www.dressingvintage.com/images/separates-3004-01.jpg

-you end up looking adorable, kind of like a counter-culture ballerina. Ignore that ugly blazer though, I'd have to wear something cool and dark (to match the shoes) like this:

http://www.icie2.com/img/570/poin-02240-black-smocked-chica-off-shoulder-peasant-top.jpg

I'd throw a bondage belt around my waist for some unexpected hardness and a pleasant jingle sound:

http://theblackcatcloset.com/ebay/AP44.jpg

Some more lace around your neck:

http://www.anyemogirl.com/image/anyanne/handmade-beaded-unique-EMO-girls-Occaision-choker-necklace/716oc-black-lace-white-cameo-choke-necklace-antique-vintage-gothic-victorian-formal-cocktail-party.JPG

With a biiiiig pink blossom in your hair like this one on the left (not the ugly flaming pink one on the right):

Actually, yeah. I can't wait until I'm older so that I can get away with great fashion. I won't be able to pull off expenesive shoes, real jewlery, nice blazers or lovely hats and gloves until I grow out of looking like a fifteen year old and develop some class in my face:

I'll also be able to wear scarves over my hair and red lipstick (red lipstick looks clownish on younger people):

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w7pflohsyrU/TVb-weSE4iI/AAAAAAAAAcM/X69lGnOfCy8/s1600/scarf4.jpg

http://pollywalkeronline.com/images/rome-serie-tv-2005-138-g.jpg

I obviously won't be able to pull off the cutesy look anymore, my style will change. You can stop dicking around and focus on doing things well when you don't look like a little kid. If you're too young and you're using a look that's way too "mature" for you, you end up looking kind of creepy:

http://media22.onsugar.com/files/2011/09/35/0/1892/18922219/c44eb5ad1912b20d_Teen_Fashion_B.jpg

I look forward to new ages and new styles. I even know what I'm going to wear when I'm ancient. The way I see it, beautiful flowing pieces of fabric which are practically works of art in themselves work great on ancient ladies. I also like that whole old witchy wise-woman look.

Juniper - Makes me think of how I used to dress. Now I'm stuck looking like a grown up  I still look in the mirror and wonder just when that change happened.

Does anyone know where I can get some cool vintage tees that don't have things like "Red Hot" blazoned across the breasts? I love the jeans, vintage tee, and blazer look for work. I just keep having problems finding shirts that are appropriate. I'm in a pretty casual atmosphere so I can get away with casual and trendy. Mostly I just need to look like I care about what I go out of the house in.

You chose well, grasshopper. I love those slightly fitted sweaters they used to wear. Those go nicely with jeans, and a blazer if appropriate, for a kind of uptown look for day or a casual evening.

And the eastern clothing, that just kind of grazes ones, um, curves. I see that just because I'm now a grownup I don't have to eschew color, and it doesn't necessarily have to be shapeless, to pretty and even elegant.

Thank You, Juniper.

In answer to your question, I don't know LadyLuck. I gather you've looked in some vintage clothing stores? I'm not sure t-shirts were a staple for woment at least until the sixties.

Seriously, the sock filter is a good substitute if you're out camping. As long as you get the water boiling, it will kill off the foot funk which typically rises to the surface which you may then skim off.

I love the Monty Pythons and their songs.

The Galaxy song is my favorite

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
And you feel that you've had quite eno-o-o-o-o-ough

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour

.....

So remember when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth

My favouritestest Python song has got to be "Always look on the bright side of life" from The |Life of Brian.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best
And...

Always look on the bright side of life (whistle)
Always look on the light side of life (whistle)
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing

When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing
And...

Always look on the bright side of life... (whistle)
Come on!
Always look on the bright side of life... (whistle)

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow

So always look on the bright side of death (whistle)
Just before you draw your terminal breath (whistle)
Life's a piece of ****
When you look at it

Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life (whistle)
Always look on the bright side of life (whistle)
Always look on the bright side of life (whistle)

I had it down for my funeral, but I've heard another tune that I think will be the one.

This one looks flimsy but is made of railway sleepers embedded deep into the soil. Nothing short of a direct hit by something big would topple it.

This year I'm going to paint it - I got the paint last year but didn't get round to it - yellow. I might even put some flowers on it - big five petalled blooms with a nice orange centre - like the little kiddies at school paint.

As Kiki has just found out, we're discussing what's in "the drawer" in our respective houses in The Bloke's Thread.

We have been expounding certain physics theories as to how "the drawer" works - you know, the phenomena whereby nothing you want can be found, but everything you will want next week is- by which time it'll have disappeared again.

We also seem pretty unanimous that it's some kind of inter-dimensional portal/ wormhole through which objects disappear until they are sought by females - much to the chagrin of males who want to access the contents. It is a source of constant frustration and humiliation, but what can you do against the primary laws of the universe?

Perhaps there's a superhero who's conquered drawer physics?

Drawer Man!!

No, it doesn't sound right. They all wear their drawers outside their trousers, so perhaps that would just be confusing...

"The mystery of the Bermuda Triangle was solved today as it has been recently discovered that Margaret Meldrew put away all the planes 'to know where they are'." (Victor Meldrew)

Eve Voltaire hated women because 'they aways know where things are.'

I always say to Mr Kiki (I ike that :D) that I put those things away, because at least then one of us knows where things are - if I can remember, which sometimes does not occur and in which case the law of the universe that I am also human and may forget things is proven once again. This doesn't change the fact that Mr Kiki always asks for stuff he has put away...

I call it saving time and damage limitation. You call it humiliation and embarrassment.

No, to be fair, everything is not too much organised in this house and there is enough to search for which I have put away.

The drawer may follow a similar principle as the dryer where one sock out of a pair always seems to get lost... I'll go for the wormhole idea.

As for the name of the superhero.. may I suggest 'Storager Forager'!? Ok, pretty stupid, I know. But I'm not feeling creative today.

I will say that I always seem to know where other people's things are, but never my own... I wonder if it is a psychological thing, or whether it may mean that I just pay less attention to my own things... I lose everything. Wallets, phones, keys, jackets, jewelry... The worst part is that most of them have never been recovered. bah

My grandmother was like that. If she couldn't find something when she was out (which regularly happened) she used to say, 'Oh it must be in my other handbag.' As a little girl I used to be confused about that because my mother only had one handbag. My grandma died when I was eleven, but now, at the age of 29, I have several handbags of different sizes which change according to the clothes I wear and it sometimes happens that I can't find something... However that is only very rarely.

I am not one of those women who carry around twenty lipsticks, twelve powder boxes, 3 magazines and a whole lot of other junk in their bags. Although mine are big, they only have my seven necessities in it:

1 lip balm lipstick
my glasses case (if I do not forget)
my book
my keys
1 bottle of water
my mobile
my purse

And that is all.

Have we girls already talked about what is in our handbags, actually or not?

That about the dryer... It doesn't happen to me anymore... I think the disappearing socks ceased to be when I started clearing up the bedroom and consistently throwing them all in the washing basket.

OK, when it comes to handbags that is probably my girliest obsession, I can honestly say I have about 25 handbags. Though it has changed now that I have to carry my schoolbag all day but when it comes to my handbag it has the same things in it at all times:

a small purse for coins
a cigar case with pictures of James Dean I use for my cards (bus card, credit and that stuff)
a notebook
a book I'm reading
sunglasses
keys
and extra chewing gum
and my calendar book
sometimes my laptop, it's only 10'' so it fits in most of my handbags

Perhaps The Finders sidekick could be a woman? That way all bases are covered, nothing is off limits??

Excellent.

My wife was explaining to me today what she - and presumably all females - call "drawer blindness" which is a condition that manifests in men only.

They open the drawer, missing the big sticky out thing they are looking for, but instead are overcome by the expectation that they will not be able to find whatever it is, thus succumbing to panic and subsequent "drawer blindness".

I find this explanation to be consistent with my experience of blokes tales of finderless woe. Perhaps The Finder should be a woman then?

I'll have to relate this revelation to my Mates on the Cold Ale thread.

I don't really have to look for things, all of my clothes are just on the floor so you can see all of them at all times. It's a great system. I'm fridge blind though. This happened less than two days ago:

"Dave, where's the coke?"
"On the door."
"Nuh uh."

I deny that it's on the door until he has to come all the way into the kitchen from his room and, without pause, grabs the bottle of coke which was sitting on the door at my head level less than six inches away from my eyes. It wasn't even behind anything.

Hmm, I have never had dry eyelids, but since they are more sensitive (and the skin is thinner) than most of the rest of the face, try some kind of eye cream. Otherwise, my go to recommendation is always vaseline, because it has a hundred amazing uses and is cheap and effective.

If your eyelids are dry, but the rest of your face isn't then you've probably had some sort of allergic reaction? This has happened to me. If you have sensitive skin you shouldn't put your normal moisturiser over your eye area. You need a special eye cream or gel for sensitive skin.

Also, the eyelids are probably the oliest parts of the body, so that's another reason it makes me think you've had a reaction to something if they are dry. But the reaction needn't be because of some 'wrong' cream you've put on them. I've been using specialized stuff for quite a while, but it still happens to me from time to time (especially the inner corners of my top eyelids).

At least you're not driving looking for your car keys-I have done that twice.

On an early get-up at the hotel once, I set my room key on top of the TV and turned the remote in to the front desk. The clerk looked at the TV remote and said (a little too sarcastically for my taste) “Uh, sir, we like to leave those in the room.”

Haha, that's great. I don't have many brain-slips like that, but I did once find a jug filled with peach juice in the kitchen cupboard instead of the fridge. I don't remember putting it there, but I was the only person in the apartment. I'm pretty sure someone very quiet broke into my house and moved my juice.

it starts with the juice in the cupboard... it's good that you're still noticing. When others start noticing what you didn't, then.... Sancho looks like he's begun to reach this stage. They have... good places these days.

yeah I guess I'd be worried about the books because of the heat and humidity, but it looks good...

What would be cool is if it was one of those spinning bookcases, like when you want a bath you push a button and the bookcase rotates so the books aren't exposed to water ohhhh even better if there was a full bar on the other side so you can have an appletini while soaking.

Somebody has to invent that.

me, too! Why can't I remember things? I locked my keys in my car on Saturday. That seems to be happening more often.

I mostly can't even close my door without actually holding my keys in my other hand, just to make sure I won't lock myself outside with the keys still insine my apartment.... It's never happened to me, and hopefully never will, so maybe being this neurotic has some good sides to it

I also always check I've got my keys, wallet, phone and bus ticket with me before I go anywhere. ONCE I stepped out of the bus without checking my bus ticket, and of course that one time it had slipped out of my pocket and I had to go buy a new travel card... They found my old card later, so I got back the 20 euro note I'd had between my travel card, so the monetary loss wasn't as big as I thought first. The whole thing still sucked, though.

The exact origin of the martini is unclear. Numerous cocktails with names and ingredients similar to the modern-day martini were first seen in bartending guides of the late 19th century.[6] One popular theory suggests it evolved from a cocktail called the Martinez served at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco sometime in the early 1860s, which people frequented before taking an evening ferry to the nearby town of Martinez. Alternatively, the people of Martinez say the drink was first created by a bartender in their town.[7] Another theory links the first dry martini to the name of a bartender who concocted the drink at the Knickerbocker Hotel in New York City in 1911 or 1912.[8]

I've used it. It's alright, but they can sometimes have very overpowering perfume, sometimes very powdery and sweet. So all day, every time you move your head you smell it...it makes you queasy after a while. I gave a brand new bottle away once, because of that.

If you can find a nice smelling one I would say they are worth it. They are great for hair that's gone a bit flat.

EDIT: Also, I recommend an aerosol. They are easier to use.
EDIT2: Cosmo did a review of affordable dry shampoos. I've also heard recently that Batiste (or something like that) comes highly recommended and that it's very cheap as well.

OK guys, of utmost importance: what's your favorite horror movie(s) since it's Halloween?

My favorites are all so old, but still provide a thrill.

The Bad Seed especially now knowing there's a grain of truth in it.

Village of the Dammed, the original, not the remake (sorry Christopher Reeves)

The Shining, still a fave after all these years

The Haunting of Hill House, again the original. The book is awesome, too. I love movies where people lose their minds.

Halloween. The only movie that I really love Jamie Lee Curtis in.

Anyway...

I was talking to my manager and colleague (both men) and a female colleague, and we were discussing training we went on. The lady who who lectured had the most distracting hair (and vpl)...it was so distracting that I had trouble focussing on the lecture at times. I kept thinking about who much I wanted to teach her how to do her hair correctly, etc. The men were so surprised to find out how distracted I was by her hair. However, the woman had the same reaction I did.

Why do you think it was so distracting? Why should I care if her hair looks funny? But I just couldn't help myself staring the whole time...

She has shoulder length curly hair that she wears straight. So I think what happens is that she blow dries her fringe and then very quickly dries the rest in a rough manner and then she flat irons only the ends to get them straight. But the first few inches from her roots have this weird crinkle cut effect (which bugged me the most), and the rest to the ends are stick straight. On top of that she lightens her dark ash blonde hair, but it's gone very brassy (spelling?) and she hasn't used decent conditioner in years.

It looked like a really bad blonde wig that's not been stored properly.

I sat there thinking of the advice I would give her about the colour, the conditioner, the correct dryer, brush and flat iron and the technique. I had a whole make-over montage running in my head.

I'm glad you had a nice Christmas, Delta. It is hard for me to imagine a heat wave right now, even though I lived through one just a few months ago, lol. And we had a rash of West Nile Virus cases, enough that it made the news nationally. It was kind of scary, so I kept the doors and windows closed during the evening when the mosquitoes come out. So boring.

I had a good Christmas-it was also small and quiet. I'm drinking wine and watching movies tonight. And for the new year I want to keep learning Chinese (fingers crossed), continue with my Chinese calligraphy, my watercolor classes, and I would also like to write more regularly.

I hope you finish your second (!) play, Delta. I have thought in the past of writing a screenplay, but a) I don't think I have the stamina to write something that long, and b) I don't feel at all that I can write convincing dialogue.

I also want to walk more and do yoga and, in general, be perfect....ah, aspirations!

They fit me like buttah- like buttah!

I buy them on the web from Sierra Trading Post. Get 'em a full size larger than your regular shoe size, or better yet, go to a backpacking store and try them on, then go on line and order them.

Of course everybody's foot is different. What works for me might cripple you and vice versa.

ok, Ladies can anyone recommend a good hiking shoe?

You've got to call them hiking boots, Papaya. Boots. It's a very masculine game, hiking. That being said, if you want to make a splash, these look pretty amazing:

Ya, I'm going to make a trip over to Dallas in a couple weeks to do some shoe shopping.

:p It's so unnatural and scary looking, isn't it? I found this picture when I was looking for that one:

Hopefully she has someone walking behind her the whole way.

That might be the greatest merging of the practical and impractical that I've ever seen.

I prefer to hike in bare feet. I'm a sure footed little beast if left to my own devices, shoes just confuse the issue. Whenever I go hiking in the Badlands, I do it barefooted. Sure, my feet sting a little by the end of the hike and once in a while I get poison ivy but the hike itself is smooth with no slipping or sliding. Stinging feet and a little poison ivy is a small price to play. ;)

I agree with Idril (not that I hike a lot) I don't like shoes that much and I hate, really hate socks! Don't wear them except at work cause I have to. I am always scanning the ground in front of me when I walk and I prefer bare feet. That being said, I am going to Brighton in 10 days and I have already ordered shoes I'm gonna try out and hopefully buy when I get there :)

Talking about shoes, I was working with a girl who has 72 pairs!!! I am planning on buying pair number 5, who need's over 70 shoes?

Before you head out this way, a word of caution; avoid the backside of Dallas... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ugvPm9XA-k

You shouldn't have any problem finding a place to get your trail shoes around DFW (or boots depending on the actual type of terrain you plan to trek)
Good luck.

You certainly won't find much good hiking here, either, if you stay long enough to try out your new shoes, I mean, boots.

ooo, I think I might pop out to the shops later :D.

72 pairs? Where does she store them all? I grant you, over the years, you tend to buy some for parties and things, and never wear them again because they're more uncomfortable than you thought or because they went wirh a particular outfit you can't wear every day. So, maybe at the end of my life I'll get to pair 72...

I usually have one or two pairs I wear every day, one pair of flat big ones for walks, one pair of boots for the winter (since that season about 10 years ago where I bought my very first pair of boots because they were the thing to have, my legs get cold) and a number of other things like sandals, high heels and things.

When we were in Prague last time I bought my first platform ones.
Humanic the shoe shop (they've got an online one as well, Austrian shop apparently). I had never seen a shop (and it was huge) where I could have bought so many many shoes. And usually I can't find anything to my taste.

The girl I was talking about is 23 years old and some of them are apparently very expensive, she named some designers but I don't know them so I forgot.

Doh! At the Dr.'s office I found a Vanity Fair from 2010 and there was an article about Christian Louboutin (the shoes with the red soles). All I can say is "ick". The whole article was bizarre and horrible, from a mother and daughter talking about running from the repo man in his shoes to Christian Louboutin talking about fathers wanting to screw their daughters.

Not sure the purpose of the article but it made me strongly dislike that whole scene.

Seriously. I dug up this post to talk about.....wait for it.......shoes. After reading the last few posts there is a bit of a possibility I may be obsessed.

I'm looking for comfortable, cute, sandals/walking shoes. I've scoured the internet and I don't think they exist. They either make me look like pontious pilate or my grandma. Any suggestions?

I got some of the nicest sandals I've ever owned from the Bass outlet store at the Outlet Mall in Allen. You can check online, too, also. Just be careful that you're putting in Bass store or shoes or whatever; my computer and is just positive that I want the BassPro store. :D
