AVALON - Most of Catalina Island's tourist lodgings are clustered near Avalon's town center, which patrons might find to be both a convenience and a nuisance.

You can walk from the boat dock to the small hotels that hug Crescent Avenue, but your room is likely to be right on top of the perpetual, late- night bash that is Avalon's pedestrian plaza.
