Zane Grey's life followed an oddly-dashing trajectory from traveling-dentist-baseball player in the 1890s to world famous western novelist and sportfishing pioneer by the early 20th century.
Biographer Thomas Pauly has managed to chase down Grey's private letters and knit them into what would be - if Grey's fame weren't all but lost in the American consciousness - a controversial, tell-all biography.
Fishing, it seems, was not Grey's only passion, which is hinted at in the title of Pauly's 2005 book, "Zane Grey: His life, His Adventures, His Women."
