Touche: The late Zane Grey, a pretty decent fisherman of note, once wrote about how difficult catching a swordfish can be.
During the 1920 season off Santa Catalina Island, Grey counted 86 swordfish, baited 75 of them, got 16 strikes, hooked 12 and landed one.
``If we get one a year, we're awfully lucky in Avalon,'' said Roger Cadwell of Avalon Sea Food, the island's official weigh station.
After last weekend, Reed Miller, 32, of Newport Beach, can consider himself lucky. He can also say he has something in common with the famous angling author.
