Donation of 48 acres pushes conservancy closer to goal of preserving Fishing Creek watershed.

Riders have often clip-clopped through Fishing Creek and explored its rugged bluffs.

In fact, this bucolic part of southern Drumore Township could have borrowed a name from the 1959 Zane Grey novel, "Horse Heaven Hill."

Now, thanks to a horse-raising family, the Lancaster County Conservancy's Fishing Creek Nature Preserve is expanding by 47.8 acres.

The tract was subdivided from a larger property owned by three siblings, Bob Herr, Betty Adams and Wayne Herr, owners of the Shady Brook Farms Corp.
