The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music opened its 2003-2004 season Thursday night at the Patricia Corbett Theater with a contemporary and raw version of Sophocles' "Elektra."
This is a play of grief enlarging to anger and vengeance. Klytemnestra, Elektra's and Orestes' mother, has with her lover Aegisthus, killed her husband Agamemnon by removing his head.
Director Nick Mangano's production uses Ezra Pound and Rudd Fleming's highly colloquialized 1949 translation of Sophocles' play written in about 410 B.C.
