Trachiniae (Women Of Trachis) (413? B.C.)

Background:

The Trachiniae is thought to have been written after Euripides' Heracles
and to have been influenced by it. Some of its structural features are less
characteristic of Sophocles than Euripides: the expository opening speech; the
choral songs, which are more interludes than parts of the action; and the
two-part plot. However, the cast of characters is different in each play,
except for Heracles, and he has a different character. Traditionally, Heracles
