In the 2,400 or so years since Sophocles first put the Oedipus legend on stage, we've had lots of time to become familiar with the patricidal motherboinker's tragedy. And it's almost always seen in those terms: Never mind the women, this is a tragedy by, for and about men.
Sandra Perlman's Jocasta, now playing at the Indoor Forest Theater, changes all that. Perlman's powerful script views the story through the eyes and emotions of Oedipus' wife and mother. As presented by Perlman, it's a story that's every bit as tragic and compelling as Oedipus'--a task that's trickier than it seems.
