WAYLAND - For someone who has enjoyed so much individual success, Nick Sophocles is remarkably team-oriented.

A two-time sectional champion and Division 3 state runner-up at 125 pounds last year, Sophocles could say plenty about his own wrestling career at Wayland High.

But he doesn't, because he considers himself just another cog in the Wayland High wrestling machine.

"You don't have to be the kid who pins everyone to be a hero; you can be a hero by just not getting pinned" and preventing the opponent from scoring maximum points, said Sophocles. "The coaches look at me to be a champion for ...
