The original Danish-Norwegian stage directions which Henrik Ibsen used in 'A Doll House' is discussed in relation to the trope 'under bordet.' In English, it translates into 'under board,' signifying deceptiveness. The symbolism of Nora's game of hide-and-seek with her children is discussed in this light. It is posited that the plot of the whole piece revolves around Nora's efforts to hide from her husband the true source of the money she received.
