TO MARK the centenary of the death of Henrik Ibsen, generally regarded as the "father of modern drama", the Hexagon Theatre in Pietermaritzburg hosts Ghosts this week.

This production of one of Ibsen's most controversial plays is being directed by William le Cordeur.

The play is performed by Hazel Barnes, Anthony Lovell, Avershree Maistry, Arifani Moyo and Johann Hyman.

It revolves around a well-to-do widow who is building an orphanage as a memorial to her husband, a rural Norwegian squire.

The ghosts that haunt her are many and varied.
