Play's theme of water quality touches on a Redlands issue

REDLANDS - The University of Redlands theater department presented Henrik Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People," which explores the moral and ethical issues of a contaminated water supply in a community set in the 1950s. The city of Redlands has its own water contamination issue - perchlorate.

"Perchlorate came on the scene for the city of Redlands in 1997," said Doug Headrick, chief of water resources.

Two of Redlands' wells are contaminated with low levels of perchlorate. Neighboring communities such as Colton, Fontana and Rialto have a much larger plume, or underground contaminated lake, and ...
