NBC's 'Gulliver's Travels' hews closely to Jonathan Swift's original.(Originated from Knight-Ridder Newspapers)

The new production of ``Gulliver's Travels'' is making a big point about being true to Jonathan Swift's 1726 book. But screenwriter Simon Moore has thrown in some of Homer's ``Odyssey'' as well.

Swift's satiric look at humanity was a series of adventures by traveler Lemuel Gulliver, the most famous of which is his visit to Lilliput, where he is a giant among smaller people. Ted Danson, the former ``Cheers'' star who plays Gulliver, is not alone in remembering the story from ``some children's abridged version.''
