A festival most fowl Homer the Duck's odyssey becomes cause for celebration

Long live Homer the Duck.

Homer was the 6-pound European buff-crested duck with the quack heard 'round the world. She (yes, Homer was a chick) made a lot of friends and one enemy in Manitou Springs, and wound up in court.

In the summer of 2002, her owner, longtime Manitou resident Lou Smith, was hit with a noise violation and taken to court by neighbor Jan Dawson.

The judge ruled in Homer's favor, and the story made headlines on Paul Harvey's radio show, the BBC and CNN.

Sadly, Homer died last July, the victim of her overly enthusiastic sexual companion duck, Gerard.

But her spirit lives ...
