Devon White hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning Wednesday and the California Angels held off host Oakland 5-4 despite a record-tying 37th homer from Athletics rookie Mark McGwire.

McGwire's homer in the fourth tied Al Rosen's American League rookie record for home runs, set in 1950 with the Cleveland Indians. McGwire has an 11-game hitting streak.
