Don Mattingly homered in his eighth consecutive game Saturday night, tying the major league record, but Ruben Sierra hit a three-run homer in the fifth to lead the Texas Rangers over the visiting New York Yankees 7-2.
Mattingly tied the mark set in 1956 by Pittsburgh's Dale Long when he homered to left field off Jose Guzman (8-8) leading off the fourth. It was his 18th of the season and his 10th during the eight-game streak, which began on July 8 against Mike Smithson of the Minnesota Twins.
