Calendars and pencils were two of Homer Miller's main products when he began a sales promotion company in 1945.

Companies bought the calendars and pencils, which usually included their name, address and telephone number, as advertising tools.

Homer Miller realized he was not selling products - he was selling advertising and helping the companies establish an image, said Rod Miller, Homer's son and CEO of the sales promotion and targeted communications company his father started 60 years ago.
