Lynne V. Cheney, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, would recommend the following works and authors as part of any core curriculum for a student's general education. " Where authors are listed, Cheney said she did not want to specify particular works because students should get a broader view of an author by reading more than one of his or her works.
