Anton Chekhov and Tom Stoppard make fine collaborators, even though Chekhov has been dead 94 years. And Stepping Stone Productions is a good collaborator for both playwrights.

The company's Northwest premiere of Stoppard's adaptation of Chekhov's ``The Seagull'' is memorable. It features a solid cast and a story well told with simple, intimate staging.

``The Seagull'' is about misplaced passions. A tortured young writer, Konstantin, falls in love with a neighbor, Nina, who aspires to be a great actress. Nina, however, falls in love with the established writer Trigorin. ...
