Theatre X's production of Anton Chekhov's "The Sea Gull" follows in the affectation-free footsteps of Louis Malle's "Vanya on 42nd Street," the film version of Andre Gregory's staging of Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya."
In "Vanya," the actors performed without scenery or costumes. All Mr. Gregory was concerned with was the relationships between Chekhov's yearning characters.
