ANTON Chekhov's "The Seagull" is a play about unrequited love, artists' vanity and Chekhov himself. Here, the great Russian realist explores the passion of a young, inexperienced writer who struggles against the established artistic elite in order to move literature forward.

So it should come as no surprise that Boris Eifman, a popular Russian choreographer who created an innovative dance style during the Soviet years of artistic stagnation, chose this play to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his company, Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg.
