If Anton Chekhov were alive today, he might be living in Malibu, toiling over a word processor and cranking out scripts for "Dear John."
At one point, actress Isabella Hofmann was studying her lines for the Goodman Theatre's current production of Chekov's "Uncle Vanya" when she suddenly realized she was doing an intellectualized version of her role on the NBC sitcom "Dear John."
"I didn't see it at first," the former Gage Park resident said over lunch recently. "But as it went along, I said to myself, `Uh, this is interesting.' "
