`Uncle Vanya," Anton Chekhov's heart-touching comedy, is playing out the joys and disappointments of the middle class in a new adaptation at the Goodman Theatre.
In this Chicago-style production, Michael Maggio directs David Mamet's interpretation of Vlada Chernomirdik's English translation. John Mahoney plays the title role, a man who devotes the best years of his life to someone whom, he finally realizes, does not deserve the admiration.
