`The Cherry Orchard' should offer surprises every night

The National Theater Company's production of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" opens Tuesday at the Blackstone Theater. And if I had the cash and the clout, I'd take you all to every evening's performance.

In contrast with designer-director Philip Prowse's production of "The Duchess of Malfi," which by the nature of its dictorial dictate, is set in cement, Mike Alfreds' staging of "The Cherry Orchard" is of the aspic-meringue mold. It changes every night.
