Well, it's that kind of difference of opinion that makes a horse race.
Have you heard of a little courtesy ?
Towards whom? If you mean the dead guy, I don't think he'd fully appreciate my magnanimity. And if you feel I should be more courteous to those here who like the song - well, you know - cut'n'thrust of intellectual debate in the forum and all that. I don't think anyone should take it personally that someone else doesn't like the same music - especially in a thread of which the point is to rate songs offered. Me, I thought I was uncharacteristically generous to that one.

Have you heard of a little courtesy ?Hoope,
Please don't take any of this personally. None of the comments are addressed to the poster (well, apart from a few that were addressed to me :p) and it is only natural that, as in books, we have different likes and dislikes when it comes to music.
And truth be told, such honest comments are what makes this thread interesting and fun; otherwise, if we all kept giving "10/10" to every single song, there would be no point in this game at all.
However, if you don't want to risk receiving negative comments about the songs you like particularly, why not avoid posting them and opt for random songs?

Youtube is blocking thas video for me  But am I right to think it is Bonnie Tyler with "Total eclipse of the heart"? That is the classic "woman in deserted house longs for company and gets lost in dreams" :p Think Celine Dion in "It's all coming back to me now".
As I like her voice and Steinman's song, and that kind of music video does appeal to me in some strange way...

Don't worry. There's nothing there to feel. It's a cynically-designed and mechanically-executed money-making confection devoid of the slightest hint of human involvement. Which, of course, was always Mick Hucknall's dubious genius.
Here's a new one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7kdg0wWrEs
I really liked the early stuff from the Kings of Leon - the Molly's Chamber era. And though I thought Sex on Fire (or, as we've had to convince our six-year-old daughter who sings it at the top of her voice in supermarkets, My Socks is on Fire) was too influenced by U2, it had real energy. This one, on the other hand, is kinda pedestrian. I hope it's not typical of the album - especially as the album is being pushed so hard. I mean, primetime Saturday night ads on terrestrial TV. Someone has decided this is going to be huge.

I concede to no one in my admiration for the Dutch. Their culture, their tolerance, their pragmatism, their art, their capital city.... The two years I lived Amsterdam were absolutely the happiest of my premarital life.
However, every nation has a weak spot and with the Dutch it's their music, which is in every incarnation - from trad accordion-driven oompah to facile mindless europop - as irritating and distracting as a hornet in a hot car.
This, for instance, is the music you'd get if a precocious eight-year-old mastered the use of a cheap sequencer, and had his big brother write the lyrics. It invokes in me the pavlovian reaction that it's time to call a cab and go home. 0/10

John Prine's one of a group of guitar-led, blues-fed artists, who I know I ought to like but who just strike me as kinda...worthy. They remind me of fly fisherman - despite it appearing that they've spent all afternoon standing up to their thighs in cold river water while tying complicated knots in invisible thread, they probably enjoyed catching the trout a hell of a lot more than you're going to enjoy consuming it. 4/10

I like the "half a brain" comment. So you rate people's mental capacity by whether they agree with you?
Genesis had their moments, and none of them were after Gabriel left. The thing about the Lamb Lies Down - the good thing, on the whole - is that PG wrote all the lyrics, which meant we were spared the others' pseudoclassical meanderings. Then again, PG seems to have felt the need to appease them with this little sojourn into Graeco-Keatsian myth. The tune works, but the lyrics and the imagery are a bit adolescent. 6/10
It was a great stage show though.
Another from the dime-a-dozen indie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp1fQ51YZMM). I think Alex is the best chronicler of domestic romance that rock music has produced since Paddy McAloon. It's not a huge thought - but then I only have half a brain to think it with.

Just as bad as forming an opinion based on someone else's opinion. I just don't see how someone could give that song (or much of any song, for that matter) a zero. To me, that says you think the song has absolutely no redeemable features, objectively or subjectively. Which means you ignored the writing, probably didn't listen to the whole song (which includes many mellow and acoustic interludes accompanied by wonderfully sung clean vocals), and the excellent musicianship. It just pisses me off when someone writes a song off due to certain aspects of the song that wasn't liked and therefore refuse to see the virtues of other aspects of the song--much like you did with the Avantasia songs. Frankly, I think that Arctic Monkeys song is horrible, but I can still see the positives in it.

I remember this song from when I was just a little child, 8/10.
I have to admit that given this was the one time someone other than me posted a gay anthem, and that you got to it before me to give it a 0, has made me slightly resentful.

As for the above song. 7/10. A few weeks ago, probably a 4/10, but I'm kinda getting into opera now.

5/10. Good melody, but it kind of just meandered, especially the piano. I was waiting for it to build, for some sort of a climax, but it never happened. And the vocalist trying to hit that high not on "tonight" made me cringe a little.

It hasn't quite got the epic resonance of California Dreamin', has it? 4/10, out of sheer respect for Mama Cass's role in the Canyon scene.
Incidentally, harking back a few, can I just opine that I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper is one of the best singles ever made, and probably the only twelve-inch re-mix I ever bought. The lyrics were written by Bob Calvert. Of Hawkwind. No, really.
....Coup de Ville to Illinois.... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uilg4osWvzI)... I'm not impressed by the sentiment, but you can't fault the groove

I pretty much agree, I just picked that because it's the first Mama Cass video that popped up after a search, and Mama Cass was the only thing that came to mind when I ran out of weird videos.

I'm not sure it's one of the best singles ever, haha. Sarah Brightman is something interesting too, she was the first person to perform the role of Christine in Phantom of the Opera as well. She had a pretty big hit with "Time to Say Goodbye" a few years back:

It's my feeling that her career peaked with Trooper and it's been a dizzy plunge into middlebrow mediocrity ever since. I'd be nastier about her, but she was married to Andrew Lloyd-Webber, so she's suffered enough. 3/10
