Man, that's a hard question. Happiness is the key here. So I'll take poor and happy. But I do think that financial security (not necessarily "wealth") does contribute to happiness, especially in the long run. It's not the only thing, or the most important thing, but knowing that you're secure financially can make fertile the true pleasures of life: art, leisure, work, love, & co.
