Act Four, Scene One
The scene is the court in Venice, where the Duke is presiding over the
case of Shylock's claim to his pound of flesh. Antonio, Bassanio, Gratiano,
and other Venetian noblemen are already present. The Duke expresses his pity
for Antonio, whose adversary he declares is "an inhuman wretch, / Uncapable of
